This place was amazing, we had 3 appetizers, (deviled eggs, short ribs, calamari). Prime rib, Ribeye, Chicken Parm and dessert. (chocolate cake) The only thing I didn't care for was the rose cake thing, I forgot the name. We had excellent service as well. We will definitely be back.
Food and Service is Great! Been around since I was a kid! One of the few places you can make reservations at making it a Great Valentines day, Prom Night or any special occasion place.
As always the food is great, service is friendly and a pleasant atmosphere. Tonight I just had the tiramisu. I would recommend the Canadian Walleye, the steak, the bruschetta, the fresh made bread, the steaks, steak sandwich, the pasta. I've never had anything sub par or anything I haven't liked. Live entertainment I the lounge area is a really nice touch. Traditional, old school service and food makes this a go to place for a night with friends or a date night. Prices are fair for the quality of food and service. If you want a great sit down meal in a comfortable place, try this place.
We had a lovely Sunday brunch experience. I had a delicious Smoked Salmon Avocado Toast. Chef made a dairy-free hollandaise sauce to accommodate our allergy needs- very much appreciated🙏 The atmosphere was calm and friendly.
This is where you should come to eat steak. Everyone got a different cut and they were all outstanding. Really really good steaks. Everything else was also great including the smoked ol fashioneds. I had friends in town that wanted to eat steak and this place gave them exactly what they were looking for. We will be back.
We had Kim as our waitress and she was amazing!!! I ordered the Whiskey Ribeye and it was so juicy and cooked to perfection. I would suggest getting the Gods butter and putting it on top of it too! 🤤 No wonder Warren loves this place!! Great food, exceptional service, fun atmosphere. 10/10 recommend
5-star all around: great food, fantastic service and a nice atmosphere. This is where Warren Buffett likes to come to have a t-bone steak and hash browns. We took exactly that and it was very good. We came during the Berkshire weekend so a reservation was mandatory well ahead of time. It also felt like they may have hiked the prices for the weekend as we had a special menu. Parking in front of restaurant.
Everything was fantastic, especially the whiskey ribeye, and bread pudding for dessert. The toasted ravioli was also delicious. Liz was a great server and had spot on recommendations. Will definitely be returning.
We had a wedding "reception" at Gorat's with 10 other guests. We had a nice private dining room that was just the right size. Rita was our server and she did an amazing job. Everyone was talking about how good the food was and our drinks were consistently getting refilled. I can't speak to their desserts as we brought in a small cake of our own (which was served for us as well). It was a very pleasant evening!
High quality steak, paired well with baked potatoes and red wine. We ordered 24oz porter steak that split between two people and the deviled eggs. The deviled eggs came out fast and cold, FYI. Recommend making a reservation in advance on a busy weekend.
Overall excellent dinner spot. Many unique menu options to choose from, and high quality in all of them. Steaks are cooked to perfection, staff is friendly, service was quick, and the atmosphere is wonderful especially when they have live music, which is often.
It was on my bucket list for quite some time and why not it is the "buffett" go to place for having steak. So, we finally went in for dinner today and left the place fully satiated and happy. Our waitperson Greg was very warm & attentive with a sweet smile. Had to try the oh so popular "Baked Potato Soup" it was delicious, trust me you need to try it if you are reading my review. It was so creamy and texture was so smooth and perfectly done. Then we ordered Omaha Sirloin steak with sauteed mushrooms I personally prefer a well cooked steak hence I liked it very much taste wise. Grilled Garlic & Herb Chicken Breast was good and plentiful. Both the dishes were served with baked potatoes. We would definitely come back to try more of their dishes as we really liked the place and its courteous staff. Ample of parking is available and it is located right off the main street so yes location wise excellent as well.
Fantastic old-school restaurant. The bourbon-glazed ribeye is, without exaggeration, one of the best steaks I've ever had.
I was fortunate to get reservations at this iconic restaurant while in Omaha for Berkshire Hathways annual meeting. The restaurant is kind of split into 3 sections, 2 main dining areas and a bar for live music. As you enter into the foyer, the area on the west side of the building, there is a little room that is made for Warren Buffet. I had the T-bone steak, calamari, and Warrens root beer float. The food wasn't out of the world and they're not trying to be the most fanciest place. They offer good quality food at a good price. Highly recommend, if you ever visit Omaha
Took my husband out for Father’s Day brunch. He ordered the Corned Beef hash. He said it was the best he ever had. The waitress was amazing she was knowledgeable about the food. If you are looking for a good place for brunch try Gorat’s.
My dad and I finally made it to Gorat's for dinner and had a great dinner! We enjoyed a leisurely meal starting with cocktails and toasted raviolis before moving into salads and the main event - STEAK! The steak was perfectly cooked! I enjoyed every bite, even the bites the following day from my take away portion. Please, please do yourself a favor and make it a point to stop a Gorat's while in Omaha for a meal. You might even see the Oracle of Omaha!
Here for the fame and curious of the vibe. This is a restaurant with history, you will see they collected menu cover based on the theme of each years brk shareholder meeting ticket. The waiters are very welcoming and food was good! Try if you want to get the vibe!
Had dinner here before the Berkshire Hathaway annual meeting and had an amazing experience! Donise was fabulous, attentive, and gave amazing recommendations. I had the ribeye which was amazing, and I tried the filet which was the most tender steak I’ve ever had. Highly recommend the cowboy butter and the God’s butter! And AMAZING chocolate cake!
If it’s good enough for Warren Buffet, it’s good enough for me. Good was delicious and my server Charlie was fantastic
It was my first time. I loved this old restaurant located in the South Omaha. Great food: we loved everything including the desserts! Lithuanian bakery cake, Tiramisu, ice cream. We loved prime rib, baked potato, pasta. The beef gravy is amazingly. There were many family gatherings, birthday parties around us. Very easy welcoming atmosphere and great food⭐️
There’s some critical reviews out there… not sure why, probably over hyped expectations with cost… I thought this place was amazing. Great value for what could cost you double at other high end steakhouses. Got the 12oz whiskey ribeye. Got the special butter, but didn’t need it because the steak was so tender and flavorful without it. Donna our server was attentive and timely. I will definitely go back next time I’m in town.
We had a lovely dinner at Gorat's. This was a return visit after many very good previous visits. The food is always good as is the service. I recommend Gorat's for a nice, more upscale dinner. Try the Billionaire Deviled Eggs!
The inside doesn’t match the outside. From the outside, it looks like it could be an old school diner or old school steak house. While it’s history is shown from the outside, the inside shows a lot more modern and eloquent. Very nice place to eat. I’m told Warren Buffet has this place on or near the top of his list and maybe even as his #1 choice. There’s not a lot of high dollar commercial property near by, so the location feels a bit out of location, but that’s sometimes how you can find the really good places to keep coming back to. For us, lunch was the meatloaf and mashed potatoes and beef stroganoff. We both very much enjoyed our meal. We also both got the loaded potato soup, and I would not hesitate to recommend you trying that as well. Was very good. Service was good, meals came out hot and were good. And for a place like this, if you come for lunch, you can have certain meals (like we did) as well as soup, and be under $20 (besides tip). They have a lot of things to try in a higher dollar category, but if you come for lunch, there are plenty of good meals you can get and spend no more than a chain steakhouse. I will definitely be back at some point to try some new stuff, and I expect I won’t be disappointed.
Hello Viewers, Coming to the Gorat's steakhouse for one goal - to understand what WB favorite restaurant looks and feels. I honestly do not expect too much from the foods from a rational guys like warren buffett, I simply do not believe he likes the surprised and creativity on his foods. however, It's going to be the restaurant vibe, service, and location that he loves. Gorat's steakhouse is exactly what I expected. I love the how folky, welcoming from the staffs, and give me a quick introduction of the Omaha city and make the necessary recommendation of the foods, etc. This is a prefect place for quiet, casual, for events, business and group gathering. at least I feel very professional and welcoming from a business layover guy. P.S restaurant is not all about the foods, it's the experience that matter Paul
First time there for both me and hubby. When we made the reservation we noted it was our first time and our anniversary, so if there's more of private table that would be awesome. They hooked us up! We ate in the Buffett room, completely private with a door, though we didn't ever feel the need to close it. Limontini was delish and we started with their onion rings, which per the reviews were amazing. And they were. Jon isn't much of an onion ring guy but he loved them! After that of course came the salads and then the steaks. Everything was amazing. New favorite restaurant!
On May 5, 2023, my girlfriend and I celebrated my birthday by trying Warren Buffett's favorite steakhouse. The ambiance of the restaurant was great, and the staff was really welcoming. We ordered the New York steak and a T-bone. The steaks were absolutely delicious, and we were quite satisfied. They were so generously portioned that we only managed to eat half of each. When we asked for the bill and to have the leftovers packed, due to the hustle and bustle, the waiter accidentally forgot to pack the our food and threw it away. I was quite disappointed and expressed this to the manager, who then decided to graciously serve us two freshly cooked steaks! We were astounded and delighted, but decided to only take one. This experience at Gorat's proved not only that their food is world-class, but their service is too! We were extremely pleased.
Fun and busy! Great portions, and atmosphere. Service was also fantastic. The food was amazing, I recommend the raviolis and adding a Caesar salad. Worth it. ♥️
Great meal! We were in town for the annual shareholder meeting and of course booked dinner at Warren's favorite spot. Go for the 22oz tbone and be sure to ask for Rita as your waitress. Top notch living in Omaha! See you next year.
Hands down some of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had. Everything is made fresh and toasted to perfection. We went back two days in a row for the Cuban and the grinder — both were amazing. The bread alone is worth the visit. Loved the beef tallow chips, great wine, and the fun specialty items. Can’t wait to return.
Gorat's was amazing! I had heard great things about it but hadn't given it a try. We took my Grandma here for her 88th birthday and everyone enjoyed their meal! I had a Whiskey Ribeye with god's butter. It was delicious! One thing I may order differently was my side. I ordered hashbrowns with cheese. I would probably have changed that to a different vegetable option instead. I recommend going here and supporting local!
This restaurant's lounge was like stepping back to the Frank Sinatra era. It was a great experience! You definitely want to have a steak dinner. It was a delicious meal, and I had a very attentive waitress. Don't miss this stop when you're in Omaha!
Even though the facility itself from outside appears pretty old, but they keep it clean and elegant inside. I would say, it is a high-end, fancy, and expensive restaurant. But their quality of food matches. I had a sandwich as my brunch today, but wow, it was amazing! Only a few things I can ask for is; the very uneven… crazily torn paving of the parking lot. Through the sidewalk, it isn’t very good at all for such a great restaurant. Another thing is serving speed; which was very very very slow. I seriously wanted to ask why they took so much time when I only saw us in the restaurant.
Had the 20oz ribeye and the prime rib sandwich. The chef char-grilled the ribeye which added the BEST smokey flavor to the meat. Ribeye was tender and perfectly cooked. Prime rib sandwich exactly what you want out of a steakhouse sandwich. Mashed potatoes are rustic and awesome!
It was interesting to dine in a private and small room where Mr. Buffett used to eat. The steaks was very tender and delicious despite it was fully cooked when we asked for medium.
Overall, it was a decent experience, though not extraordinary. The food didn’t quite live up to the hype for me. The steaks, while cooked properly, lacked the standout flavor or quality that would make me say, “wow, this is the best steak I’ve had.” They were just… okay. What I did enjoy, surprisingly, was the baguette served with regular butter — simple, but satisfying. However, their “God’s butter” was a bit off-putting for me. It had a strong garlic flavor that didn’t quite mesh well and felt overdone rather than elevated. On the bright side, the staff were very friendly and attentive, which added a nice touch to the evening. Service definitely stood out more than the food. All in all, I’d rate my experience a 7 out of 10. Worth checking out if you’re curious especially as Warren Buffett's favorite stakehouse, but don’t expect to be blown away by the food.
Try the brunch or get happy hour in the lounge! First and foremost, Gorat's is not my top choice for dinner or an Omaha Steakhouse. The dining room vibe is a bit too bright/sterile, and we just have better options around Omaha for steak dinners. However, the lounge vibe and appetizer menu is good and priced well (bonus points when they have live music). They also recently added brunch service. We saw some signs posted out front and finally made it in one weekend morning and it was great! Really hope they can start attracting more business for brunch as that is something this part of town could use more of.
Came to try this Steak House after seeing the hype. The service was excellent. We were seated immediately and the server made sure to check on us regularly. Our drinks were kept full and food was delivered in a timely manner. The steak was where we felt they could have done better. It's become difficult to find a restaurant that does medium-rare correctly, so we've learned to order rare. This place is no different, they overcooked the rare, but unevenly. This resulted in a partially medium, partially medium-rare stake. Also, this left the overcooked section tough. The appetizer was good and the sides were well done. Overall, we enjoyed the experience, and are glad we can say we tried Gorat's, but will try another place next time.
We were there with a party. The waitresses were amazing. Very helpful and kind. We ordered the cheesebread and egg appetizers. The cheese read is amazing! We didn't care for the eggs. My main entree was the sirloin. It was sooo good, I definitely recommend their steak sauce! My spouse got the grilled chicken. He said it was not good and wouldn't recommend it. Overall, great staff, great steak.
Took out a few of my team members for dinner. Was expecting it to wow me based on the reviews. Great steak house, very laid-back feel. The food was good but not very exceptional. Was a fan of their signature steaksauce because it was on the very sweet side, and it paired well with the Bleu cheese butter. The appetizers were better than the mains, in my opinion.
It had been a couple decades since last dining at Gorat's, but Warren can't be wrong, can he? Service was excellent as our waitperson was very attentive and accommodated a few custom requests. The food portions were generous, but some were in need of some additional seasoning. The restaurant was also a little chilly, but Warren gave us a warm wave as we left which made it all worthwhile.
Everyone must go here at least once. Beautifully redone atmosphere. Try to sit in the front room where it's more quiet. A classic old fashioned steak house that boasts compliments from Warren Buffett. They get incredibly busy so reservations are recommended & I did so a few days prior for a weekend birthday dinner of 4. That being said, they started to sit us in the back room by a set-up for a giant party. We were the 1st to arrive in the entire restaurant...so we asked to sit in the front room & were allowed. It was the 1st time for 2 of us & the waitress who worked there for decades did not know some of the menu when asked questions. However, she was very nice & the service was good. The food was prepared very well & looked great although was slightly bland. We noted there was entertainment in the lounge (a singer) and it looked very festive with a nice crowd.
We felt like royalty in Gorat’s Steakland. Every bite was so delicious, but the onion rings were like thrones of crispy perfection, each one the size of an actual crown. Our only minus was the wine. But above all, thank you for the unforgettable hospitality!
Friendly staff. Food is average. Cozy atmosphere. Ordered medium porter ranch steak and it came out basically rare in center. Still enjoyed the experience since this place is famous for warren buffet :)
This was my first visit, on Valentine's Day no less! My first impression was very much what I imagined - a classy "old school" restaurant and bar. Attractive, organized, and not your typical chain steakhouse. We opted to sit in the bar area, since there was no regular bar service due to the holiday. We ordered a bottle of sparkling wine and the fried ravioli to start. The French wine was reasonable at $35, and delightful, not too sweet. The fried ravioli were large, fresh, with just the right amount of filling, and the marinara sauce paired perfectly. For main course, I ordered the 22oz t-bone, medium rare ($50), and my date ordered the lobster dinner ($99). The steak was beautiful, cooked just right, and definitely better than your average t-bone, paired with a baked potato. The lobster dinner came with two large grilled lobster tails, clarified butter, baked potato, and fresh green beans. Very good. Neither of us finished our entree, and took leftovers home. Service was excellent, very attentive and proficient. The price point for dinners is probably a bit high, but you are also paying for an experience and service. It's a definite step up from other steak places, and parking is easy. We will probably come back and hang out in the bar on one of their live music nights. It's a great place to have a fancy date night.
Service was great. Prime rib amazing. The place has changed a lot since I went last. Granted that was years ago but it didn't have the same ambiance I remember. It's just like any other steakhouse on the inside now.
Food was hot and miss. Some people loved their meals, others did not. The tomahawk steak was delicious. The whiskey steak tasted like it was dressed in syrup. Service was friendly but often 15 minutes between visits which seemed too long.
We had the T-bone steak (cooked medium-rare), hash browns, classic butter, and Caesar salad. Every single dish was excellent — perfectly seasoned, flavorful, and satisfying. The steak was cooked exactly how we wanted — juicy, tender, and rich in flavor. The hash browns were crispy on the outside and soft inside, a perfect pairing. But the highlight for me was the classic butter — I could’ve eaten it by the spoonful, it was that good. However, the service experience was a bit uncomfortable. As an Asian woman, I felt unusually pressured by the server repeatedly asking if we wanted to order more food, and if we were sure we didn’t want dessert. While this may be a cultural misunderstanding, I haven’t experienced this level of insistence at other restaurants in the U.S., and it felt unnecessarily pushy. That said, the food was absolutely perfect — and if you're going just for the steak, it's a must-try in Omaha
Driving up to the building you get the sense of what this place was. There are signs of love and growth that are a memory. The cocktails were watered down. The appetizers showed attention to detail and complex flavors. The entrees are where the facade falls off. I had the garlic and herb chicken and one half of the breast was cooked to just slightly above the right temperature and the other half was closer to jerky. At our table we had two steaks cooked to above their ordered temperature with one being sent back because it was too over. It could have been because we were a three table party but it seemed like they fired entrees based on the table and brought out in waves. I would have loved to have seen this master in its prime.
The service was outstanding. We we opted for dinner that didn't include steak, which may have been our error. We tried the pesto pasta and the veal scallopini. Both dishes were just mediocre. I'll go back and try a steak and hopefully upgrade this review.
I ate at Gorats tonight for the first time under the new owners. And here is my honest review. They took the previous Gorats and did some paint and hung Up some pictures and they think for that they can charge 55 bucks to start for a fillet. The service at the table was OK. Not overly friendly. With your steak, you get your choice of a potato or a vegetable. If you want a salad that’s extra and that was a pitiful thrown together very small salad. Zero effort was put into that. But, The steak was very good. Cooked to perfection still tender and juicy. And the potato with everything was super good it was big and they put the cheese in first and then put everything on top of it so the cheese melts into the potatoes. It was really good. But after two of us spending nearly $200. We were basically given the bombs, rush out when we didn’t order dessert. Mind you, I had ordered two glasses of wine, a side of Bernaise sauce, And a salad on top of my $55 steak so it’s not like we weren’t spending money. But they came over and asked us if we could exit the table because they had a reserved. Which I do understand. But there were other tables open and we did just spend $200. So I think the only thing that justified jacking the prices up that much was that Warren Buffett goes there. It’s a tacky representation of a steakhouse, but the food was good, although it was expensive. I would go to the drover or Brother Sebastian’s over this any day.
