Didn’t expect it to be any different but the food was delicious (especially the steak) and diverse enough. The staff ensured we were properly taken care of and found the right balance between letting us enjoy our food and ensuring they were around when needed. I recommend this place if you like east asian food. It’s expensive but that should not be a surprise.
We spent several glorious days at the Hyatt Papagayo. Every morning we would go eat at Ostra. We were greeted by our favorite waiters Victor and Luis, who are the absolute best. Cannot say enough great things about these guys but everybody there treats you so kind and wonderful. The views, atmosphere and service are fantastic. We would often see howler monkeys in the trees - just watching from our table. Every morning would start off with a “power shot” of a fresh fruit and vegetable drink, which was always very tasty. Coffee is a must… whether it is a specialty drink or just a regular coffee it is delicious. Breakfast was always accompanied by a fresh selection of cheeses and meats, grain selection (delicious breads, and pastries ), fresh fruit plus yogurt with granola. Everything on the menu was freshly made and great. The Hyatt Papagayo and Ostra were definitely one of the biggest highlights of our CR trip.
Stunning ocean views and a sleek open-air vibe set the stage at Ostra. Seafood is fresh and beautifully plated, service is attentive without being pushy, and the cocktails are worth lingering over. Pricey even for a resort, and portions lean small, but the setting and flavors make it a special-occasion kind of place.
We just returned from Costa Rica and enjoyed MANY delicious meals at Ostra. The food was always fresh and delicious and the service was fabulous. We appreciate Jason (Jay), Luis, Rocky, Hector and João, among others. Starting our day with breakfast was the best - hot lattes, fresh fruit, delicious egg dishes, and cheeky monkeys who will steal from your plate if you aren't paying attention! We found this leisurely breakfast to be much more enjoyable than the buffet which is louder and more crowded, though still delicious. We enjoyed two delicious salads by the pool one day - I'm still dreaming about the Thai papaya salad. And at night we had delicious ramen. They have theme nights so pay attention to those.
The food and atmosphere were amazing , yet unique. The restaurant is open air (has a roof) and service is island style (meaning relaxed). Everyone there was very friendly and genuinely interested in ensuring my wife and I had an amazing night.
It’s a must-stop in the morning. Adults-only brunch is much quieter than Rio Bhongo, plus the brunch offers bottomless mimosas and bloody marts. I got the quinoa bowl. It was good. For a gluten-free vegan, I preferred the mushroom sandwich. I also combined the photos from dinner. The curry shrimp was my favorite. Service was excellent
Best fine dining experience we’ve had in a while. Love the friendly staff. Food is exquisite. We ate here everyday for four days straight.
Restraunt is full of friendly staff who treat each person with respect and hospitality. They make sure each guest has a great dining experience by asking how the dishes were and will try to make acomodiations if needed. We had a splendid experience here thanks to our waiter Eduardo and the restaurant manager, who made sure our experience was exceptional.
Awesome service, views, and food. Especially for breakfast! Jonathan helped us every morning during our 4 night stay, remembering our important allergy requirements and drink/food preferences. It was the perfect way to start the day, or as they say “Pura Vida”.
Great service and food. Small things that can improve: wish the butter can be colder, the butter was little too warm. The mini free appetizer was nice touch, but it doesn’t taste good: was dry and tasteless
Food was very good and the staff are friendly. They offered a ceviche class too which was awesome!
Excellent fare! The menu was broad enough and the fresh fish was amazing!
Really delicious meals. Thumbs up all the way.
Muy acogedor ,todo muy rico ,nuevo chef con una propuesta culinaria excelente. Lo recomiendo!
We went to Costa Rica two months ago and are still raving about our experience at Andaz, specifically at Ostra. The staff was incredibly attentive and friendly, remembering our names and our food and drink preferences; we looked forward to seeing them and went to the restaurant 4 times during our stay! The ambiance is relaxing yet refined and the food is truly delicious, we tried a ton of different options on the menu and everything was superb. The ceviche and risotto (and the craft cocktails) were definite highlights! Thank you so much to all of the staff (fantastic manager, chef and servers!), we had such a great experience and they made us feel so special. We will absolutely be recommending Ostra to our friends!
Grown up pool, quiet and beautiful place. Good food.
My group caught fish during a fishing excursion. The chef at Ostra was able to cook it up for us. It was an unbelievable experience! We gave the chef the fish and allowed him to create a 5 star dining experience for us. He served ceviche, sashimi, grilled and blackened mahi with rice, and delicious veggies. I wish I would have taken photos but everything was so delicious and fresh. Exceeded our expectations!!
Without hyperbole, Ostra is an exquisite dining experience that will leave you wanting to return night after night. Each ceviche is expertly prepared from the freshest ingredients. The main courses are excellent. And the cocktails are impeccably well crafted. All this is served alongside the highly-attentive and accommodating staff.
We've been to a LOT of restaurants and I have to say the vibe here has to be top 5. We loved it. The food was very well prepared. Service was friendly and warm. Beautiful entrance and lighting was phenomenal. Cannof say enough. Food was served quickly. Go if you have the chance.
Ostra has been one of the best meals I have had at the resort. The food and service are both top notch. I started with octopus ceviche and finished with the chefs special for the night. The drinks were artfully crafted.
Delicious Italian cuisine served with a smile within a romantic ambiance. Especially loved the seabass tiradito. Grilled lobster was cooked to perfection but found it a little salty. Breakfast was especially good thanks to Cida & Adana’s warm personal greetings. Pura Vida!
I have eaten here on multiple occasions. Always a good experience. During my last visit I have tried the vegetarian lasagna and it was simply out of this world.
Chef Carmella has put together a great menu and amazing small bites. The Mahi Mahi ceviche was the highlight for me—absolutely amazing.
Amazing food, and perfect sized portions. Location is ideal as it's right next to the adult pool
Very delicious food both for dinner and lunch. The fish and everything we ordered was incredible.
Amazing food and drinks. Super accommodating service. Overall a great vibe!
Great restaurant with a menu around Costa Rican cuisine in a modern way.
Great food and wonderful staff
Surprised to find vegetarian options in a sea food restaurant. The wok dish was gorgeous
Great food and atmosphere. Friendly and attentive staff.
Oh my, what a restaurant, definitely worth one visit by anyone in the area
Completely wonderful food and people.
Best of the Best! Ceviche is fantastic.
Great food and atmosphere
5 stars
Good was good and service was amazing.
Service was extremely attentive and kind. Servers were considerate and wanted to ensure we had the best experience. Food was great. We got the Costa Rica inspired app and beet salad. For entrees we got the grouper and red snapper - both excellent. Drinks were fun and creative, even the mocktails. Highly recommend!
Delayed review but I stayed at Andaz and ate at Ostra back in February of this year. I was a solo traveler and you could tell some of them weren’t used to seeing a lot of solo diners. I was quickly sat and the ambience was nice, especially after spending the day out in the sun. I started by ordering a bottle of wine. I was a bit confused since I was brought a bottle that was half way gone and had to request a fresh bottle. They placed the bottle just out of reach from where I was seated and several people passed me when my wine glass was empty. Eventually someone (I believe named Jonathan?) stopped and refilled my glass. He was super kind and proceeded to ask about my travels in Costa Rica. Lina assisted me next and was also very kind and friendly. I have a gluten allergy but the restaurant was able to modify some items to accommodate for me which was greatly appreciated! Here is a review of all the items I had: - [ ] GF bread and olive oil with balsamic 3.5/5 - bread was good but oil and balsamic was meh. - [ ] Amuse bouche GF spring roll 4.2/5 - [ ] Vieira (seared scallops) 3.6/5 - they put the nuts on the side for me due to the potential cross contamination risk for gluten, which I was grateful for as the nuts made no sense in the dish for me. The sauce needed something - after I asked its supposed to be a fruit puree but I think maybe more butter or salt with the scallops themselves would’ve helped the puree compliment them more. 2 out of my 3 scallops were cooked well and had decent flavor. 1 was lacking both and it was very evident when eating. - [ ] Arroz con langosta (lobster paella) 4.7/5 - different concept. Not your typical paella but very tasty. I loved the garlic sauce on the side and the lobster and rice were both cooked very well. - [ ] Rondón (caribbean style fish) 5/5 - perfectly cooked fish and vegetables. My first piece of fish in CR that didn’t have a single bone in it. Excellent seasoning and phenomenal flavor. The chef also gave me a homemade hot sauce on the side that was 10/10 - [ ] Ceremonia del cacao (ancient chocolate flavors) 4/5 - for chocolate lovers only! Overall my experience got better the longer I was there. Best restaurant onsite by far! I would highly recommend and will definitely be back the next time I visit.
Amazing ambience and service! However food was quite mediocre, my least favorite out of the three restaurants on site. Something taste extremely spicy in scallop carpaccio, we could only finish 1/4 of the plate (we can eat spicy food! But this was another level lol). Pumpkin risotto was undercooked, it was sent back to the kitchen to recook. The waitress was super nice and gave us a free dessert for the experience we had, which taste very good. Overall with the price and quality of food…there are some room for improvements.
I’ve enjoyed all other restaurants at the Andaz and really wanted to like Ostra as well. Unfortunately the drinks is where my delight ended. I am a vegetarian and live in a region of the U.S. that has a large Asian population and the food just did not meet up to the culinary par I expected a Hyatt property restaurant to have. Delicious drinks though
Good Food, great atmosphere and solid service but not amazing food which is kind of a bummer. Overall good but wouldn’t go back.
The ingredients are great, but the cooking isn’t. Leaves a lot to be desired, especially at these New York prices. Too bad...
Food was very mid, lacking flavor like a lot of food in CR. The drinks where good but service was slow, ambiance was nice though. Very expensive for what you’re getting.
The restaurant itself is nice and beautiful. The staff was friendly. The food and wine selection were marginal. No cool wines by the glass - all selections you'd find at a chain grocery store in the US. I got the tiger cry steak. This was one of the least flavorful steaks I've ever had. I only ate half of it. It had very little flavor. Very strange. My wife had the pad Thai. The shrimp in it were big and juicy but the dish was a little too much on the sweet side. We skipped dessert. Wouldn't visit again. Was just underwhelming for the price
This is for Ostra and was good. We had their beef satay, Indonesian fried rice, chicken pasta for the kids, and Jasmine rice tuna bowl. We also had 2 Negroni that were part of the drink special. Beef satay had good steak but didn’t taste like satay, and the dipping sauce was made from cashew which was strange. Kids loved the chicken pasta. Jasmine tuna bowl was light on flavor with under cooked rice. The highlight was the Indonesian fried rice and the flavor profile was spot on. The bamboo tunnel entry was quite epic.
We really wanted to like this restaurant. The look and atmosphere are great. The restaurant fails at the basics though. Over 15 min to get a bottled drink, food came out wrong twice, and solution was bring out the missing pieces on a separate dish 10 min later after the main dish was cold.
I am not normally one to frequent 5 star hotels and was excited to visit Andaz. I was lucky enough to join a colleague at a corporate retreat at a nearby resort in the Papagayo peninsula. We made an excursion to the Andaz for dinner with a group of 10 people. After arriving at the venue, which involves a golf cart to the restaurant, we were greeted by no one. A hostess came by awhile later to say she would be with us at some point. It was evident there was multiple groups of people waiting to be sat and a not full dining room. It took her 10 mins to seat each table. We invited ourselves to cocktails at the bar and were sat for our 7:30 res at 8:15. A reservation for 10 people had been made a month in advance requiring multiple email exchanges. She sat us at two tables of 5. Instead of apologizing she stated we had requested it and nothing else was available. The service was horrendous and the food ranged from delicious (scallop app) to mediocre (gyoza) to outright horrible (paella). Despite knowing we were a group they took our orders separately and my table didn’t get our first round of drinks until our other table was served appetizers. We then moved to a table that would seat us all and it took an hour to get a glass of wine. I live in NYC and know good food and service and I was abhorred at the experience. Makes me rethink what an Andaz resort is.
Staying at four seasons, but decided to try off property restaurant. Atmosphere and service were good, but food was a disappointment.
We stayed at andaz in dec 1st week and being vegetarian we knew that there will be limited options at the resort. Resorts secluded location also did not help. We dined at Ostra on our first night and when we looked at the menu, we saw a indian thali type course but it had chicken dish too. So we couldn't order that but we asked if they can just give is the veg portion out of it. They declined for no reason. I thought that this was not a big ask at this type of resort where you pay thousands of dollars to stay. This shows the level of hospitality.
disgusting, they served dark 80% chocolate to kids, my son's steak was tiny, my wife's scallops 2|3 had sand in them, I didn't even finish my salad, it was so bad, also, the food took too long, when we complained to the manager, she said "It'S Up To StANdArDs" and "I ChEcKeD WiTh ThE ChEf" also, the butter had hair In it 2/10 DO NOT COME HERE
