The food is very tasty, compliments to the chef and the service is also very good, everyone is responsive, kind and helpful! Highly recommended!
I had the absolute pleasure of dining at this restaurant, and I can confidently say it was one of the best culinary experiences of my life. The seafood was nothing short of extraordinary — incredibly fresh, perfectly cooked, and full of flavor. The staff were very attentive and friendly. We will back soon !
Amazing food, especially seafood and portions were generous. Tiramisu was great. Waiting staff were friendly and helpful with wine recommendations. Would definitely eat here again!
Culinary highlight of Rapallo! We came for dinner and shared a plate of grilled seafood—so fresh and perfectly cooked that we returned the very next day for lunch, this time enjoying two plates of seafood pasta. That’s how good it was! Don’t miss treating yourself to a lemon sorbetto to finish your meal—it’s the most refreshing finale. Excellent service as well, highly recommend this place.
We loved this place so much we came back twice — once for dinner and again the next day for lunch! Every seafood dish was incredibly fresh, and their homemade pasta with pesto was absolutely delicious. The service was warm and attentive both times. Highly recommended if you’re in the area! — A family visiting from New York
We came all the way from Turkey but welcomed like it was our home. The fresh sea food was so refreshing compared to the other restaurants. We fell in love with the sea mixed grill. The desert was such a surprise because the tiramisu was amazing. Also the service was very kind and fast. Highly recommend this place if you want to have freshly served sea food…
Great lunch spot in Rapallo! Trattoria da Mario was a great find—friendly staff, perfect location, and really tasty food. We had the fruited seafood, pasta La Dolce Vita, and pesto pasta—everything was delicious! Service was quick and the place is open at good hours for lunch. Definitely recommend if you’re in town.
Great food and even better service by Manuel and Francesco! We were searching for some time for a great restaurant in the city and finally found this gem. Even though the restaurant was full when we arrived the waiters organized a new, additional table for us. The food and the wine were very tasty. We especially liked the Pulpo fiction and the antipasti salad!
Mario was amazing. Very friendly and very attentive to your either need. I don’t like seafood but we ordered it and it was delicious! Highly recommend if you’re staying in the Rapallo area. The food and service was incredible. And their house wine was very good as well. Very affordable.
Im not a big seafood person but wanted to try some of the seafood Italy has to offer, so I ordered the spaghetti with diced fish anchovives and pine nuts. I really enjoyed it, lots of flavour and the tuna was so tasty. My partner had the steak which was well priced but quite tough unfortunately. Staff were friendly although had to ask to be served multiple times. Oh the wine was really nice ! Very sweet and different
Not much to say about this place. Mostly serving seafood. If you cannot eat it (like me) there’s literally nothing else to eat. I’ve ordered lasagne pasta with pesto. I received something which didn’t look tasty and interesting. No parmesan, no olive oil as extras. Prices pretty high. Wine tastes bad. Maybe you’d better not.
Sunday late afternoon. The college aged young man was great, but the older manager/waiter tried to pad the bill! Very poor way to run a business, trying to take advantage of tourists. He was very resistant to showing me the bill before I paid it.
We had lunch at this place and returned about four hours later to order some desserts. However, they refused to serve us, stating that we would need to order a full meal again in order to have dessert at their table.
A really good house wine - start with this, because this is the only thing in that restaurant that I really liked. The owner was absolutely indifferent and not so attentive for us. If you are Italian you are welcome, but if you aren’t Italian so the things are different. Because of the rainy and cold day we asked for a table close to the heating, and the owner refused because this two tables (which are close to the heating) were reserved. And one of them was really reserved, but the other remained free throughout the end of the evening. And when we asked for the check, we just formally received it. But on the next close table with Italian clients he gave some digestives for a compliment with a bill. So this was a really disappointing experience in Rapallo. Cold and unfriendly attitude. At the same time food was average and nothing extraordinary - especially the plato with grilled fish and shrimps, and fried calamari, definitely didn’t liked it. Yes, we’ve eaten it, because it is food, but definitely expected more from this family restaurant. I don’t think that we’ve eaten a tasty food in this trattoria. There’s better and authentic Italian restaurants even in Bulgaria. My two stars are only for the wine and the dessert (although this dessert is not a typical Italian specialty).
Two firsts happened tonight. One being the first time in the two weeks in Italy that I did not give a 4 or 5 star review to a restaurant where we ate . The second - this was the first time in my life that I took one bite of my dinner, stood up, paid the bill and walked out. Let me explain why: On the surface the restaurant is refined and brimming with promise. Upscale but unpretentious. Smoky blues playing in the background. Nice art and wine bottles on the wall. This place has the chops. Then...cue the waiter. The waiter seriously seemed to be a very unhappy person, wanting to be anywhere other than serving people at the restaurant. No connection, no conversation, clipped talk, no eye contact, to the point, no welcome, no engagement. We ordered a glass of wine and a Negroni. The Negroni showed up half the size of any Negroni I have received in Italy - but at the same price. Our first taste that there would be a lack of value here. We ordered a salad and then said we would need more time to pick an entree. The waiter simply said "no, you have to order right now." He explained that the kitchen would be backed up and we would have to wait a long time for dinner. This, when the restaurant was about 1/4 occupied. We asked if he wanted us to eat quick and depart and he assured us he would not rush us. 10 seconds after the empty salad plate was removed from the table the dinner showed up. The presentation of the food was a work of art. The food itself was far from the promise. The duck was raw and cold. The potatoes were cold. The carrots were cold. The pasta was so fishy that it was clearly not fresh and was offensive to the taste. This was art imitating food. At that point we threw in the towel. I surmised that trying to send back the meal with a waiter who was clearly on the edge would only end up in a worse situation for all of us. We stood up, asked the waiter for the bill, paid, and left with our uneaten food on the table. The waiter did not ask nor seem to care why we were leaving after only having taken one bite. Maybe they recycled the food? We walked 15 steps to an adjacent wonderful restaurant with beautiful candles on the tables outside and were greeted with warmth and a smile and we were served spectacular, fresh food In generous portions Avoid Mario's and you will do yourself a great favor. Find a place where you are greated warmly by people who care about your dining experience and not throwing stale food at you on the hopes you leave quickly.
