We really enjoyed our breakfast here. We had a reservation and we're seated right away. A reservation is not necessary but it is recommended especially on the weekends. They have indoor/outdoor seating. Very nice place. Great food and service.
Love this restaurant! It's off the beaten path, but it's so worth the drive to Pipe Creek, Tx! If you haven't eaten there you've missed out - give them a try! The chef is amazing & the service & food is simply the best! 5+++++stars
Early dinner on Saturday night-Really nice, chef does nice work. Crabcake appetizer, wife had the salmon, I got the shrimp pasta. Light, almost tempura like crust on perfectly cooked shrimp, cream sauce on pasta works very well. Wife reported salmon as excellent dish. A very good, very reliable place to eat. Almost forget, nice selection of wines.
Backyard Bistro, located at 167 Panther Ridge, Pipe Creek, TX 78063. The Backyard Bistro is a cozy little establishment nestled just off highway 16. I highly recommend making reservations as the place can fill up quickly. Upon arriving, we were warmly greeted by our server, Angela. She was outgoing, very pleasant and extremely hard working. One of the things that immediately caught our attention was how clean the restaurant was. The ambiance was warm and inviting, and we felt right at home. My wife and I had dinner with two of our winter Texas friends, and everyone loved their entrees. I had the flounder stuffed with crab, which was cooked to perfection. The stuffing was delicious, and the fish was moist and tender. My wife had the pecan chicken, which was a unique and flavorful dish. Our friends had the salmon and catfish, and they were equally impressed with their meals. The Backyard Bistro definitely did not disappoint, and we all agreed that everything was absolutely delicious. The quality of the food was outstanding, and the portions were generous. The presentation was also impressive, and you could tell that a lot of care and attention went into each dish. Overall, our experience at the Backyard Bistro was fantastic. From the excellent service to the delicious food and inviting atmosphere, everything was top-notch. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great dining experience in Pipe Creek, Texas.
Great farm to table dining in a quaint old building. The staff is great, parking adequate and an all around pleasant place to dine.
Love Love Love this place. Every time we have company, this is one of the choices for eating out. The hours are limited at times, so call ahead. Sunday brunch is wonderful as well.
Great restaurant!! Food is always great!!!
It's a very quaint, home made experience. Tied to antique shop, you can see beautiful China and antique furniture. Inside the restaurant has plenty tables plus the outside for spring and autumn. I had a cheddar bacon omelet and my brother had the pecan encrusted chicken with noodles. The array of home made meals was deliciously amazing. The deserts however, are even more enticing as they also make ice cream from scratch. I would highly recommend the black pepper and basil ice cream which is subtle and tasteful. Literally everything from the eggs to chicken is farm to table, where you can taste the nutrients inside all the vegetables. Its also one of the few places around serving sea food. The food is truly awesome.
Great food, Its always consistent, From juicy chicken to perfect poached eggs. There specials lately have been delicious, Shrimp and grits to there pear and berry pancakes Always clean, waitresses are always friendly and welcoming.
Excellent brunch menu, very friendly staff! Everyone looked like they were happy to be there, even though they were working. My only complaint was that they were out of the soup, so it must have been delicious! Excellent antique variety in the surrounding shop, make sure to visit the animals on the property as well! Very fun atmosphere.
We are fans! We've eaten there several times and have enjoyed it each every time. My favorite thing is their homemade ice cream! The service has always been top notch; they're a sweet bunch of people there.
Cute intimate casual country Cafe. Great menu choices. I had fried chicken, yummy! Hubs had eggs, sausage gravy (very nontraditional) and potatoes. All well seasoned. We started with shrimp corn dogs, don't laugh...deep fried shrimp with Thai chili sauce! Complementary chocolate chip cookies for dessert. We will be back. Check out the antique store too!
Wow! This is a wonderful dining experience tucked away (literally) in the Texas Hill country. My first visit was for dinner - I was in every way very pleased. The service was both wonderful and attentive. food was exemplary ... and the cinnamon, basil, black pepper ice cream is something which must be experienced. Take the time, enjoy the drive, and drink in all that is The Backyard Bistro.
This place is great! Good for a date night or even a family night with the kids. The food is always fantastic no matter what meal you go for. Venture off into the garden and the antique store. There you’ll meet Wilbur and Templeton, the pot belly pigs on the property. If you ask the owners they will give you treats to feed them. We love coming here with our kids. This is an experience you’ll never forget!
Enjoyable dinner with a variety of upscale options in a casual setting. Red snapper is delicious. Easy to hold a conversation. Wait staff is very attentive. Nice to have a nearby place with quality food choices. Reservations are accepted and are a good idea. They prepare a variety of desserts too...and because they are good and unusual, they may run out.
We went here this morning with the kids, the breakfast was great! Staff was super awesome, friendly, and attentive, even though my 2 year old broke a piece of their pottery! The kids had a blast on the playground, and it’s the first time life has felt normal since February. We will make the 30 minute drive on a regular basis from now on! Thank y’all again for the memory :)
THANK GOD we have a real chef in this area! I eat here at least weekly. LOVE the pecan chicken and specials. Yesterday had the chicken salad with side of fruit and it was perfect! No pictures I eat it up so fast! lol
Can we say yummy food, great service and good location with lots to see around it. That's the summary of this restaurant in a sentence. Chef Aaron is classically trained and his staff is very professional and friendly with great service. It is a regular visit and love to bring my clients here because I know they will always love it. Thanks to you all. If you love antiques Eva & Bill have plenty for you to see as well. Stop by, check the hours we wouldn't want you to miss it.
What a gem! I've traveled past this spot hundreds of times and will now make a point to stop. Wonderful ambiance (with a full playground for the kiddos), live music, and DELICIOUS food. The owners are amazing, taking the time to show the boys their pig's hidden talents (fish face) to the reward of bananas. 🐖 🍌 Don't forget the dessert. Basil, pepper, cinnamon ice cream was unreal. Everything on the menu is A+ and we'll priced. I'd have easily paid double for the quality (and would have in my hometown of Austin). Do yourself a favor and stop.
Nothing polished, but food was real good w some unique, creative items, service was prompt and staff friendly and attentive. In a big city it would barely be a 4 star, but in this location they deserve 5 stars
Just had the best pecan crusted chicken. And my husbands trout was amazing. Nothing is fried. The cinnamon , basil , black pepper ice cream was so creamy and perfect mix of flavors.
This is a gem of a restaurant. It’s an experience! We discovered this beauty and delicacy last winter and we just spent our Thanksgiving weekend here! We had dinner and brunch and it was wonderful. The people are extremely sweet! They treat you like family. The chef/owner is an artist. The art/antiques that surround you as you eat is part of the entire charm of the Backyard Bistro. You can tell everyone here loves what they do and what they do puts a smile on everyone’s face that walks in. Get ready to make friends- staff and customers. Enjoy beer and wine with your meal and then take a walk around the antique shop next door while you also enjoy some farm animals! It’s simply the best little gem right outside San Antonio! Can’t wait to go back during Christmas or even before for their open house December 8! Santa will be there so I believe it’s a must. Thanks to everyone at the Backyard Bistro and the beautiful Antique shop for being so welcoming and for preparing some amazing food!
This is a quaint little local spot near my home adjoining an antique shop the owners have. Any of the fish dishes are wonderful. Very creative chef with sauces and stuffings. Vegetables are crisp tender the way I like mine. It's a bit pricey, but that makes it a great place to go for special meals.
1st time there... We were not displeased... Friendly service and attentive. The 4 of us had lunch... The soup and sandwich combo was very good. My wife had the pink crusted cod with couscous... Very pleased. Another meal was the chicken fried steak... Once again well liked. Last but no least was the catfish special... No plate was left with food on them.
The staff were all so warm and welcoming. Charming atmosphere. The food was ALL so amazing and tasty! My steak was outstanding. The mashed potatoes were delicious and the grilled veggies were cooked to perfection. The Cream of Asparagus soup was savory and delicious, not too creamy...so delicious that I ordered more to go for the next day. My friend and her son both had the chicken fried steak and it looked fantastic. We all ordered different desserts to share. The chocolate cake was simply decadent. The pecan pie was amazing - the crust was tender and flaky and the custard filling was rich, smooth and sumptuous. The cinnamon, basil and black pepper ice cream was absolutely devine! We will definitely be back! So glad we found this gem!
We were out on a balloon chase for the eclipse and stumbled upon this place. We were very happy we did! The food was top notch, like you would find at a high end breakfast nook in a big city, but the prices were very reasonable. Good atmosphere, perfect service. This will be a standard stop for us when we're in the area.
This place is really good although off the beaten path. We have been dining here regularly for about 4 years. I can't say enough good things about this chef-owned farm-to-table restaurant. They feature specials every weekend which are creative and delicious. Prices are reasonable and the quality is very consistent. Great ingredients. Wonderful service and dog friendly!
We brought our friends from Lubbock out. They loved it! We love coming here!
This Bistro is a quaint place in Pike Creek located behind an antique country store. We have gone twice for our anniversary dinner. My husband had a bison steak and I had the smaller ribeye steak. The food was tasty, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere romantic.
Unexpected surprise. Delicious, unique food with fabulous service. The Cinnamon Basil Black Pepper Ice Cream is out of this world ! Highly recommended and will drive out of the way to dine here.
This place is fire! Great food, and nice space.
Such a cute spot. Breakfast was delicious and fresh. Pancakes, omelets, potatoes, and biscuits all very good. While we did eat inside the outside patio with play structure and grazing chickens was a nice addition.
We celebrated a birthday and they were quick to seat our large party. The food was excellent and the pork ribeye was the best I have ever had. We will visit again, next time for brunch.
I love this place! Food is fresh and delicious, and the menu has something everyone in our picky family likes. After brunch, we love to visit the antique shop next door and watch the antics of the chickens and guinea fowl.
Our third visit. Small menu, but just right choices. Soup changes regularly, always good. Salad with dinner is always a great choice - the house dressing is plate-licking good. The salmon is awesome, the chicken fried steak is one of the best around. Nice atmosphere, friendly service. So happy to have this restaurant in Pipe Creek!
This place won't disappoint. The smoked salmon was the best I've ever had. Even more amazing was the reasonable prices. Gourmet food without the Gourmet prices.
We enjoyed our flavorful main course. I had the red snapper, my husband the Chicken Fried Steak. The French onion soup was hands down, the best I've ever eaten. The only major concern is the Covid and CDC recommendations that are not being followed. Many customers didn't wear mask into or out of the restaurant including employees. We opted for pick up. I didn't give 4 stars because I'm rating the meal.
The food is great at affordable prices. The chef, Aaron is from Nieman Marcus in Detroit where they have returaunts in their establishments. Try his breakfast omelets or smoked salmon, you won't re great it. The entire staff is professional and dedicated to making you feel at home. Located in the Hill Country some 20 miles Northwest of San Antonio, it's the perfect getaway for peace and tastebud paradise. Be sure to walk around after eating and check out one of the largest antique shops in Texas and down to Earth owner of it all, Mrs. Eva Lee. I give this establishment a long review and 5 1/2 stars.
Anyone who lives in Pipe Creek is just happy to have a restaurant less than a 20min drive. Boy, what a restaurant. Farm to Table.....Made from scratch soups, breads and desserts! The menu is just incredible. It changes by whatever is in season. I ordered the surf and turf special Friday night, cooked exceptionally well. Sunday Brunch was outstanding with very generous portions. The food here is so fresh, you just might find yours walking itself to your table. The service is attentive, the facility is very clean with a farm chic motiff. Indoor and outdoor seating.
My Husband, I would love to go this place. The people are very friendly their Food they serve is delicious. I really recommend
Delicious food and good service. Had pecan crusted chicken and the coconut pie. So good! Definitely recommend this place. If you are lucky and sit outside you will get to visit with the two potbelly pigs that will come up to the fence. Also if your into antiques there is a huge store right next to the restaurant.
This restaurant is a long drive from Bulverde. I have been introduced to this place about 11 years ago. I've never ever been disappointed with the relationship food at this place. I don't get there that often but it is worth the trip. Food is delicious and the prices are reasonable. The service is great.
Shelley makes the best desserts! The Backyard Bistro is our favorite. We finally realized we need to pick this place when we want to celebrate and just anytime we want to enjoy genuinely good food!
What a great brunch!! Our daughter says the Buttermilk fried chicken is absolutely delicious! My husband enjoyed the shrimp and grits special, it was a huge portion, perfectly buttery and well seasoned. Definitely recommend making a reservation since it's a smaller restaurant or enjoy some great antique shopping while you wait.
I have been to Backyard Bistro a few times over the last year and I have to say it is a hidden GEM! if I lived closer I would go all the time! The food is home cooked fresh every time and the desserts are AMAZING! Everyone is very friendly and the service is always great. They also have antiques to explore, an outdoor garden area with pet pigs, chickens and some other animals. you have to check this place out, you won't be sorry you did!
We had a wonderful Sunday brunch at the Backyard Bistro. The Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict were outstanding, and Shelley provided typical great service. Reservations were conveniently made using Google, and our table was waiting on arrival. Highly recommended.
Great place.to eat that's off the beaten path a little bit. Food is outstanding, great service. Will definitely go back.
This was one if the best brunches we've ever eaten! The chorizo omelet special with hatch chilis was amazing. The sausage gravy on the biscuits and gravy was unique and delicious. Atmosphere, food, service, highly recommend. Be prepared to wait for a table, as the place was packed! Worth the wait!
What a treat! Wonderful, varied menu. My dish, a basic breakfast, was so good. Service was tops. One could see the cohesiveness of staff how they selflessly serviced all patrons- in team pattern. Highly rec
This place feels like something straight out of a Hallmark movie: warm, cozy, and genuinely welcoming. The food is absolutely amazing, and you can really feel the care that goes into everything they make. The people running it are kind, attentive, and make you feel right at home from the moment you walk in. Can’t recommend this place enough.
We truly enjoyed this quaint bistro! Our food was fantastic and the service was outstanding! We really enjoyed the fried cheesy grit bites for an appetizer. Their dinner special of butternut squash ravioli, prawn, and sea scallops was cooked to perfection and full of beautiful flavors. The chicken fried steak was well seasoned and full of flavor. We also enjoyed a slice of pecan pie to finish off the meal. Overall fantastic experience, we will be back to try the stuffed flounder next time!
This place is not just a Hill Country gem, but a Texas gem. It is located in the heart of Bandera, TX right off Hwy 16. The service was phenomenal- friendly and attentive - and the food was perfectly cooked and DELICIOUS!! I had the Pecan-crusted Chicken and it was cooked to perfection. My daughter had the Bistro Burger and sweet potato fries and she hasn't stopped raving. Plus their yummy desserts are all handmade!! I am so glad we stopped instead of driving back to San Antonio. We will definitely make the drive back specifically to visit this restaurant. You should too!
Our 1st Visit!!! Wow This Place Tickled Our Taste Buds!!!! The Shrimp CornDogs w Mango Thai Chili dipping sauce, was a nice surprise. Sauce was awesome.... I had Red Snapper w almonds & herb butter, topped w avocado relish , wild rice, sauteed vegetables. Roy had Shrimp pasta served with garlic onions and tomatoes and fresh herbs and lemon butter sauce. Desserts Roy had coconut cake, I got a carrot cake and they R delicious. They also have a homemade ice cream that is cinnamon, basil, and black pepper, and believe me that was a treat.. we will be back for sure or waitress was Angela she was a delight and she was training a young girl who was also awesome so we will be back and are grateful to know that they are in our neighborhood what a nice little place the chef Aaron Gonzalez's is the owner as well Thank Y'all For a Wonderful Evening
The food was absolutely perfect. So delicious. It gets pretty warm inside the restaurant, and that really would be my only complaint. Otherwise I could eat here all the time. The prices are amazing.
The backyard Bistro was very good, we had the shrimp corndogs and they were fantastic. The chicken fried steak was also very good, the Chicken Roulad was good but I'll try something different next time. The staff was very friendly and the beer was cold. Place has a cozy feeling when you walk up to it abs also inside. We will definitely be back.
My wife and I really like this place. The food is above average, and prices are very reasonable. The antiques give it a very early 1900 Texas flavor. Live music on weekends features local talent. Worth the 40-50 minute drive from San Antonio, up Hwy 16.
This tiny bistro is hidden behind an antiques shop so you probably won't notice it if you're driving by. Despite it's hidden location, the place was packed. Even the patio dining area was full. The food was fantastic although the menu choices were limited. Definitely worth checking out!
Stopped in for lunch with my ride buddy. His first time and he really liked it. My wife and I like Backyard Bistro and love the ambience, the service and Chef Aaron's inventive menu. His Carrot cake is wonderful. Lunch today was another winner and Brandy did a great job of pacing the meal.
This is my second time to the backyard bistro. Went there for brunch, the menu was not extensive but it had some good choices. Ordered the bistros eggs benedict. They were okay, Hollandaise sauce was rather bland, the salad that came with it was delicious. My husband had the steak and egg platter. Again it was good just not that great. Perhaps another day the menu would have been better I am willing to give it another try.
I had a really nice meal hair and had great service. Location is great and the food was fantastic. Beautiful area all the way around, will definitely come back here if I'm in the area again.
A hidden gem in Pipecreek...Great food, portions were just right. Panko crusted chicken and chicken fried steak were great. Nice atmosphere, service was ok, but they were busy for lunch, so it might take a few mins to get a refill or other. Friendly wait staff. Take an opportunity to try this place, you'll come back for more! A+++
Very cool authentic place, great service, nice staff, food is a bit bland, but it is a farm to market, so I understand what they're doing. I'll definitely go back. It's fun and not your regular ole'chain restaurant... We had a good time. The 3 stars are strictly on the food seasoning, and portion size. Like I said, we'll go back and try other dishes and update my review.
Saturday night, the food was OK at best. The shrimp is way over battered and I believe it’s the wrong kind of batter. The buttermilk pie was very dry. Please do better guys. This was not up to your norm.
The food and outdoor seating were good. The service I experienced was horrible. I needed to ask someone to take my order after 15 minutes from being seated by the hostess. Our waitress went to our table once to apologize for not knowing we were seated. She never went back to attend to us. When we needed refills of water and tea, I took our cups over to the kitchen. Our meal did not have all items because they were still getting made. 10 minutes after our meal arrived I needed to get our missing food items from the kitchen area. The only thing our waitress was willing to take us was our bill as I encountered her on my way to the register to pay. Perhaps I visited on the worst day of the year for this restaurant but I was expecting a much better experience.
The location is awesome, I loved the atmosphere and how the place was set up from a house. But the shrimp pasta I got there was beyond insulting. It was literally bland boiled noodles, in butter, 3 pieces of shrimp & a square cut tomatoes. Not to mention a huge spinach leaf to top it off. I'm not sure if each dish is like this, but I pray that's not the case. Had the food been what I was anticipating for the amount of money I spent there...I would have given this place easily 4/5 stars.
Heard great things about this place so decided to eat there. I don't know why or how but when we ordered our food, it was handed to us in "to go" containers. We never once said it was too go. Everyone else is eating on plates with silverware and glass cups. They saw us eating there they could have said "hey sorry, let us fix this really quick"....meh. The burger was really delicious tho!!
So upon reading the reviews we were excited to try this place out. Unfortunately the food was not up to par. The pecan crusted chicken with pasta had absolutely no taste. The noodles were dry and no flavor whatsoever. The chicken wasn’t dry so that’s good but it didn’t have any flavor either. The fried steak was the same no flavor. The soup was good. (Like a chicken flavor) the service was good and our waitress was nice. I would not go back. For 4 people we paid about 120 with tip so it wasn’t bad for price.
My son ordered a cake. I went to pick it up and given wrong order. He was very upset. I went back and it was a birthday cake fir me. It was not fresh. The bread was dry. This is a renoun place. I am very disappointed. Bad day or bad service.
