Excelente lugar y menu

Nuevo restaurante japonés en el rooftop del hotel Thompson, muy rica comida y excelente atención. El mesero Luis super buena onda y atento en el servicio. Pedimos makis de salmon, anguila y tiradito de kampachi para comenzar muy rico todo. Y unos cocktails no recuerdo los nombres pero estaban muy buenos. De segundo me pedi un pulpo 🐙 estaba bien y mi esposa una ensalada con salmon muy buena y fresca. Unas copas de chardonnay casa madero y terminamos con un helado yuzu ya que somos intolerantes al gluten. Un buen sitio para comer o picar y unos drinks es bastante fresco en esta temporada y la música 🎶 bien de volumen. Si quieren comer y beber bien en un rooftop en Playa del Carmen esta es una buena opción.

Increíble cena, el sushi es especacular, oscar sosa ha sido un gran camarero y su compañero luis también. El trato ha sido inmejorable, pero sobre todo la explicación de cada plato y el servicio. Los postres, una locura de buenos

La atención fue excelente. Los meseros y el personal es muy atento y cordial. El mesero que me atendió fue muy divertido y la comida fue espectacular. Pedimos varios cócteles y nos encantaron. El cheesecake japonés será inolvidable. Muchas gracias al chef por tan excelente comida.

Decidimos venir a UMI por el menú, ya que varias veces por mes salimos a cenar y conocer restaurantes nuevos top, a probar sus menús!! Uno de nuestra elección es UMI, drinks y makis 10 de 10, pedimos varios platillos makis, sashimi, ensalada, pulpo grillado y varios coktails y vino por copas todo excelente, la atención del Sr Luis increíble muy buena persona su recomendación sobre el postre libre de gluten perfecto 100 puntos

Los platillos con excelente presentación. Sabor muy bueno. La quinta estrella esta pendiente porque me falto un poquito más de sabor en los alimentos.

Mejor imposible. Maravillosa atención, comida, bebidas, ambiente y hasta nos regalaron un postre por cumpleaños. Amamos este lugar ❤️‍🔥

Dined at Umi twice during my stay - solid drinks, the food was fantastic, and the staff was even better. Deal with Diego as your waiter and you will not be disappointed. Great ambiance, solid food & beverage, even better staff - you won’t be disappointed. Make sure to order the beef gyoza, the fire roll, the ribeye roll, or the steak entree.

So this located above the Thompson. Much better than the Magic Blue Spa across the street... it is amazing. Swim up pool bar with swings. Places to dine in the water. Pool closes at 11pm but they have a live DJ. Cant wait to stay there!

Beautiful views from the rooftop at UMI, the food is absolutely amazing!!! This place is the one to go in PDC. Best views in PDC and the chef is so friendly and very well trained! Will always comes here anytime we are back in PDC.

Four of us came for dinner 7:45 on a Thursday. Generous portions, FRESH fish, and insanely attentive service. We are so confused by the negative reviews! This is the best sushi I have had in a long, long time, and I look forward to coming back.

We came for our anniversary and they made us feel like royalty! Top notch service from the staff, a chic atmosphere, great views and AMAZING food. We got oysters, the fire roll, rib eye roll, and a tuna sashimi dish and loved it all. Topped with fried ice cream - it was an unforgettable dinner! Our server, Francisco was kind, thoughtful and clearly very experienced. Highly recommend visiting while in Playa!

Friendly staff and pretty good seafood. The in house portrait artist was a very strange touch. Beautiful view over the city though - worth a visit at sunset.

Desde el inicio tienen muletas con el servicio y la atención, sin mencionar la comida. Llegamos el día de san Valentín, y aunque teníamos reserva en el segundo filtro no sabíamos si nos estaban atendiendo o no porque hablaban con dos personas a la vez y con nosotros, fuimos a la mesa y los meseros tomaron la orden y tardaron en llevarnos todo, principalmente el vino, el sushi que pedimos sabía más atún de lata y el steak angus tenía mucho cartílago. Me ofrecieron una chalina y tuve que pedirla dos veces, el lugar es bonito por la alberca y la música lo demás tienen que mejorarlo ya que no es nada barato.

This restaurant is a New version on The Catch. Honestly i am missing the catch a lot. Regardless, the food was good in general and the spot is still amazing. The staff looked lost most of the time and service was very slow at first. Will be comming back soon to see improovements. PS... you have a Lot of mistakes in your menu... it does not look professional....

Die Aussicht und die Location ist super! Der Rest geht so! Die Cocktails waren gut! Sehr überteuert. Meiner Meinung nach nicht rechtfertigt. Wir waren vor drei Jahren schon mal hier, da war es noch ein anderes Restaurant, welches hervorragend war.

Lo más destacable son las vistas. 👎El sushi sin sabor (porciones gourmet) el helado frito hecho con aceite recocido sabia muy desagradable. El servicio lento y los precios de Mónaco

La comida es excelente pero el servicio es lamentable. Esperamos 20 minutos solo para que nos entregaran la carta de bebidas y 20 minutos más para que tomaran la orden. El staff es amable pero los tiempos de espera arruinan lo demás.

The only thing this place has going for them is the atmosphere. The food was absolutely the worst sushi I've had (and I am a sushi lover) and the drinks were 'okay'. Nothing to see here but a fantastic view. Way over priced for the dining experience. They also do nothing here for you if it is your birthday. Not that I feel entitled to it, but it's unusual (at least in the US) not to.

I'm a huge fan of Thompson Hotels and really excited to try UMI Rooftop, but unfortunately I was left quite disappointed. I went for dinner this past Saturday for NYE weekend. The atmosphere was nice and had a contemporary feel. I ordered the Salmon Yuzu Teriyaki. To my surprise, when I took a bite from the middle of the salmon, it was raw! My server graciously took it back, but when my dish returned, this second attempt wasn't better: it was the same plate, just reheated. The outside was slightly more charred, but the salmon was still not cooked. At that point, I did not bother to send it back again. As someone who has received top notch service and excellent food during my prior Thompson Hotel experiences, this was really disappointing. The saving grace that made me give 2 stars as opposed to 1 was our server who was really kind and attentive.

Edamames were delicious, sushi was okay. But for 15 usd drinks we were expecting mixology level drinks, instead you get a club soda with a slice of grapefruit and a pinch of boose, very disapointed with the drinks. Nice ambience. Very slow service, expect to be asked personal questions by the waiters(what do you do for a living, what cologne are you wearing) its not bad but it interferes if you are trying to have a nice moment with your SO. Overall, okay experience for our Christmas dinner.

Let’s just say I’ll never come back here! Cocktails are extremely watered down (seriously you can’t even taste the alcohol) and for a price of $14 each you would expect something legitimate. Its a nice ambiance but it’s locking any energy probably because it’s always empty due to the awful value you get for the price! Also If you want to charge premium prices for Mexico you should elevate your service and even the menu! The cocktail menu that was handed to us looks and feels like a reused paper towel. Make yourself a favor and skip this place. Thompson Playa needs to step up it’s game because it’s been heading down over the the last few years.

We made reservations via open table. The hostess couldn’t find our reservation had to wait 10 minutes till we finally were taken upstairs. Finding an empty restaurant sat down waited 15 minutes with no great or service at all, we finally walked out. STAY AWAY WASTE OF TIME

Never in my life have I ever walked out of a restaurant, but this restaurant was my first. 10 minutes to get a menu. 20 minutes to get a round of drinks after they finally took our order, and the worst part of all 45 minutes to get our horrible meal (mind that there were only 3 tables at the restaurant) we order around 10 plates for 8 people, after 45 minutes 5 plates arrive, a very chewy and flavorless octopus, a ZERO truffle flavor overcooked and expensive Udon, and 3 sushi rolls with barely any rice around the algae, 2 of them even crumble when the waiter tried to put it on the table, it was ridiculous. We talked first with the waiter and ask him if they had any issue in the kitchen, which he kind of nodded. After 10 minutes that we attempted to see if the rest of the plates would come, we gave up, we try to talked to the manager which he didn't have any explanation just stood almost quiet and barely apologized, after this attitude we decided to get the check for the drinks and cancel the order. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE do not go there! I can't believe this is on a Thompson's hotel property, they should feel embarrassed. TOTAL SCAM

Awful experience. They gave us our food and it was so awful they took everything back and we left. And then they proceeded to charge us for the food that they took back. We were there for 3 hours before we got our food. If you like sushi and having a semi enjoyable night DO NOT COME HERE.

This restaurant was absolutely awful. Honestly the worst restaurant I’ve EVER been to in my entire life. It is COMPLETELY a scam. Almost every one of their sushi rolls is only FOUR pieces; average rolls are 9, and keep in mind they’re extremely overpriced (more expensive than a 9 piece roll at the restaurant we went to AFTER our awful experience at this one). We ordered a couple rolls, udon noodles, and octopus and waited for two hours for the food to come out. And when it finally did, only half the food was brought, the octopus had no flavoring whatsoever and the noodles were so wet and soft they were breaking as we plated them and tasted like water. Two of the many sushi rolls we ordered came with and had no meat inside, barely any rice on the outside, and completely falling a part. It looked so awful the waiter didn’t even finish setting it down before taking it back. We then cancelled the rest of our food due to this (not to mention we watched the table next to us send all their food back too), and neither the manager or the waiter was apologetic. They then brought out our tab and not only still charged us for the uneaten food, but OVERCHARGED us by using the cover of giving us our bill in US dollars when the menu’s prices were in MEX pesos. Complete scam. Absolutely awful and rude service and inedible food. I’ve never left a review for any restaurant but had to warn anyone that is looking to dine here. If you want your night ruined, this is the place for you.

Never again. Menu prices are in dollars and pesos and the bill came in both as well. He tried to charge me in pesos because it was more expensive than the dollars. He was insulting like I didn’t understand math (I’m an engineer he’s a waiter…). Incredibly condescending. Only table in there and they refused to turn the music down. Avoid like the plague.

we received the worst service, we waited more than 20 minutes for 2 drinks and more than 40 minutes for french fries. we expected a different kind of service considering the prices they charge. we decided to cancel the order of french fries and we waited another 15 minutes to pay, then we got up to go to the bar to pay because the waitress never came, and we waited another 15 minutes. it was the worst experience.

As guests of the Thompson and checking in late, we decided to keep it simple and grab dinner upstairs at UMI. Sadly, we regretted that decision. It was such a disappointment and unlike what we’ve come to expect from a Thompson hotel. Our drinks were weak and terrible. My margarita was cup of water with barely any hint of a margarita flavor. My husband’s beet root juice was just juice with maybe a 1/2 a teaspoon of alcohol. I had our server take my drink back and try again. The 2nd attempt wasn’t much better. Our server was kind and attentive but it didn’t make up for the food. Our sushi and sashimi was serviceable. I’d give it a 3 but it was all downhill from there with incredibly over sauced and flavorless food. The cucumbers were drowning in sauce. My husband’s beet salad was swimming in dressing and missing tofu. Our asparagus would’ve been perfect if they let the vegetable shine but it was over cooked and again, drowning in sauce. I was most disappointed with my catch of the day entree of Red Snapper. My server said it was fried so I expected a whole fried fish. I did receive a whole fish but it was just for presentation. They instead cut such a beautiful fish into small nuggets, battered and fried it. It was reduced to a PF Chang’s quality orange chicken. I would give the non sushi dishes a -2 if I could. In short, Thompson really needs to overhaul UMI and start over.

Summary: avoid. We went for dinner and it was one of the worst experiences we've had in a long time. The cocktails were ok but ungenerous. The gyoza were machine made and boring. The oysters were at room temperature and low quality. We did not eat them. We then had the tiradito de kampachi which was machine sliced pieces of room temperature bland fish served with a ridiculous jalapeno sauce probably intended to hide the fish taste. Then we had a sad ribeye with a miso-dijon bland watery sauce. 2 expressos and a bottle of water. All that for 2700mxn. A total ripoff. I would say go for a drink but then the DJs were as corny as they were terrible so I'd say just stay home with a beer and watch TV you'll have a better experience.

Disappointed. Stunning venue but it seems that they depend on this too much. We only had cocktails here - if you can call them that! They were SO weak and you're paying $14/cocktail! Not to mention our 1L of water cost roughly $7! If the drinks were good, we would be happy to pay, but sadly they werent. My husband described his as "watered down whiskey" and mine only tasted of orange soda. The service was poor - slow and the staff not very attentive - we had to get up and ask for the bill. Would NOT recommend for drinks (can't comment on the food) as it's pricey and not worth it!
