What a great little gem in the Point! My vegetarian friend and I shared yellow and green curries for lunch. His spring rolls looked delicious (he smacked his lips) and my tom ka gai certainly was. Indoor seating was available when we arrived a little after 1 but a 5 minute wait snagged us a seat outside. Recommend!

New place for our Family. This is a very good food place. Traditional Thai, papaya salad Lao and Thai style superb. Service is very helpful and friendly. Our family enjoy the dinner! Yes, we will be back!!

Food and service were fantastic! Only thing was the mixed seafood dish had some clam shells that had chipped into the mixture, which resulted in some unwanted crunchy bites. I will still return since the overall experience was fantastic 👍🏼👍🏼

Not what I was expecting. Not by a long shot. Typically when you go to a small place like this you expect something to come up short. But the staff was courteous, the menu well rounded, the portions were of good size and the price was much lower than I expected. Even the decor nicely reflected the fusion of turn of the century building re-use and well, a Thai restaurant.

My first time going to a place in point Richmond but it was amazing! The service was great, the food was good. It was a little pricey but it's good quality food so it makes sense. Trying to park was bothersome, it's quite crowded there but it was a great visit overall. There aren't many tables but it wasn't crowded when I went. I would definitely go again. Especially since the waiters and staff were all so nice!

LOVE this place! My favorite Thai food in the whole bay area. I have been to Thailand and the food here is almost the same as we get over there. I used to work non Richmond and go to Kao Sarn for lunch as often as possible. Now that I don’t work in Richmond anymore, I make made special trips out of the way just to eat here-1 The lunch specials are a great deal – you get a little of everything. The curries are fantastic, and the larb was a favorite of my best friend from Bangkok

This place is so good! I have tried a bunch of different menu items. Everything is amazing. Every time. Guys working are so incredibly nice. You just feel so welcome. I recommend this place for date night, casual lunch, or grab one of their soups when you are feeling sick. I promise you will not be disappointed. Some of my favorite options are: garlic noodles, mango curry, corn fritters, angel wings, & The mango with sticky rice dessert.

My husband and I absolutely love this Thai restaurant! The freshness of their food is remarkable, and we appreciate the lunch specials they offer. Personally, I can't get enough of their delicious pad thai . Highly recommended . this restaurant is a gem!

I'm changing my review. Plus they didn't even tell me how they made their salad dressing 🫤 what was more important is that it wasn't as good this time around. After 1 year. My braised pork was good but I love skin, fat and bones. My brother's crispy pork was "crisped" a few too many times. My "doggy bag" was just everything thrown together including the salad, with no attempt to isolate anything. I was disappointed this time around.

First time to eat here. Food was flavorful with generous portions. Service was attentive but not intrusive. I had a coconut curry noodle dish with cilantro, lime, mushrooms. My wife had pad Thai with chicken. We had spring rolls and fried tofu as an appetizer. Each of the dishes served were good values and thoroughly enjoyed by both of us. Recommend.

Fast lunch service, clean all around, cozy atmosphere. Thai food is one of my favorites..especially the dishes with curry. The wait staff are exceptional and are always welcoming. Parking in the area is not easy and there is really no overflow parking, but if you don't mind a little walking, this restaurant is worth it.

We come here for dinner before going to Masquers Playhouse and enjoy the food very much. Consistently good basil chicken. Will always come back!

Best authentic Thai/Lao in the east bay - more Thai than Lao here - there are some very good Lao spots in the east bay - don't change a thing here please. Flavors and spice levels are legit. Do yourself a favor and don't order the food to go and then judge it online - this flavor is meant to be enjoyed right out of the kitchen and onto your plate. Thank you Chef and owners.

This is a quaint little restaurant in Point Richmond with great tasting food. The service is quick and attentive. Came upon this jewel on a fluke and it felt like the luckiest night of my life. Thai at its freshest and bestest!

This place has never failed to delight me and everyone I have eaten with. I'm vegan and they have many great options, my family is not and they love it too. My Dad is super picky about the preparation of his beef and was raving about his yellow curry. I have had Rad Na and Pad Kee Maow and they were both phenomenal. They serve a ginger tea that is also excellent. Service is quick quiet and efficient, just the way I like it. Decor, ambiance, all top notch. Eat here.

First time at Kaon Sarn Thai Cuisine in Point Richmond — and it definitely won’t be our last! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt warm and welcoming. We ordered the yellow curry, fried rice with duck, and sticky rice with mango for dessert — and everything was excellent. The yellow curry was rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. The duck fried rice was savory and cooked just right, with tender pieces of duck in every bite. And the mango sticky rice? Absolutely delicious — the perfect sweet ending to our meal. Highly recommend this spot if you’re in Point Richmond. Great food, great experience. We’ll be back!

The menu at Kao Sarn has a large range of food options such as appetisers, salads, soups, curries, grilled items, seafood, noodles, and rice. The restaurant serves beer, wine, sodas, and authentic Thai Teas as well. We as a family dropped in at the Restaurant for dinner. Our order comprised of Soup, Pineapple Fried Rice, Red curry and desert: Ice cream and sticky rice. Miss not Thai Restaurant when near Richmond

We enjoyed a great lunch. Very fresh food. I enjoyed the daily special which was avocado seafood dish. My colleagues enjoyed lunch specials. Everything here is fresh, service is quick and prices reasonable. This was not my first time here and won't be my last time.

I love their garlic noodles special with steak, my partner loves their pad see ew, and today I tried the chicken dumplings in curry sauce app + the duck fried rice. Phenomenal flavors! The folks here are very chill, sweet and add to an already lovable and atmospheric local spot (pleasant background music too. Tonight had classic easy rock perfect for a rainy night). Come here for date night or solo for a glass of cab (a generous pour I’ll add!), you won’t be disappointed. Love it here.

I grew up in Thailand and visit every year so I am very picky about my Thai food. I just moved into the area and have been looking for a new Thai place. Kao Sarn definitely meets my needs. The bbq pork is amazing - my husband had to stop himself from licking the sauce off the plate. We also tried the garlic pork ribs which is something I ate weekly growing up. It was great with the sticky rice. We also had the roti (delicious!) and fried banana for dessert. We will definitely be back!

This is a really nice local Thai place. Lunch and dinner. Parking is street only and sometimes crowded. It's a relatively smallish place and the service staff are great and friendly. Food is really good. Prices are on the higher side but still reasonable.

It's a small place with just a few tables. The kra-praw was delicious - just the right amount of heat from the chili. And the Kao Sarn was really yummy - the pumpkin and curry especially tasty. We all really enjoyed the Pad See Ew. The BBQ chicken was juicy and flavorful, and the Pineapple fried rice with chicken was fabulous. However, the pad thai was just so-so. Overall, we would definitely go again!!

Very good Thai dishes. We had Avacado Seafood ($20), Mixed Vegtable with Chicken Curry ($15), and Papaya Salad ($12). All food was very fresh. The papaya salad was not what we expected but that's only because we thought it would have chunks of papaya in it and not be spicy. Great experience and they have been at that location since 2000!!!

A

Good place. Food was generally good and service was great. Menu was surprising in that vegan call-outs we're not visible and the curry with tofu I was able to order came with less than fresh tofu (chewy) that I've experienced at other similar Thai restaurants.

I've been wanting to try this place for a while and I happen to spontaneously come here with my friend. We ordered dumplings to start, bbq pork and pad see ew. The dumplings were so good and whatever the sauce was 👌. The BBQ pork didn't come with rice so that to me was a bit of bummer especially because that plate was pricey. Nevertheless it was good as so was the pad see ew.

Such a lovely find! The food here is delicious and even reminded me of home in Thailand. The décor is stylish with charming vintage touches, and I love how thoughtfully the Thai elements are presented throughout the space. I came with my relatives, and every dish we tried was great. The flavors aren’t super intensely Thai, but they’re well-balanced and very enjoyable. Definitely a place I’d come back to. Service was amazing. The staff were warm, attentive, and incredibly sweet. It happened to be my birthday, and they surprised me by singing and bringing out a crème brûlée — and it was so good! Their kindness really made my day. The atmosphere is calm, cozy, and not too crowded, which makes it a wonderful spot to relax and enjoy a meal. Highly recommend!

This is a cute little spot in PT Richmond. I have come here a few times and have always had a good meal and their portions are fair. They close at 8:30 but still took us in at 8:20, which we really appreciated. One of the reasons we like this place is because they can prepare most items GF. We ordered 2 Thai Iced Teas, Papaya Salad (Laous style) (but I have also gotten the Thai style), Green Curry with Shrimp and String Beans with Shrimp. For dessert we ordered the coconut ice cream and mango sticky rice. In the past I have ordered the Tamarind Prawns, some sort of fried ribs, angle wings, Tom Kha and the Pumpkin Curry. All items I enjoyed, except for the ribs. They just weren't for me. I have also been here once for lunch and they do have lunch specials which is nice. If you happen to be around the area, definitely stop in and get some grub!

They serve a favourite of mine - oxtail soup. I don't mind making it myself but it is not something I can just "whip up", so when I have a sudden craving I get it to go, mainly because I look undignified gnawing at the bones while I'm eating, lol. The portions are generous so I know I'm not going to finish in one sitting. The sour flavour of the broth is not overpowering and slightly reminiscent of a Filipino sinigang. The Thai version is slightly sweet so it is a happy, delicious compromise. Comes with a side salad, too.

Haven't been here since before the pandemic, 2020. Back then I would've rated this restaurant with 4 stars. My diet has since become 85% vegetarian and so the veggie versions of my favorite dishes played a huge factor in my current rating. The tom yum soup was a major disappointment -- too sweet and very little to no taste of lemongrass. Their panang curry was soupy rather than being a thick curry sauce, but at least it was still flavorful. The only meat dish I ordered was the chicken pad ka prao (chicken stir fried with veggies, chili and basil). It had more ground chicken (95%) than veggies, but still tasty. Their brown rice is still very good. They mixed up my phone order and gave me an eggplant dish instead of the veggie egg rolls I wanted. I don't care for eggplant so that's literally $$ in the trash. Make sure they hear your order correctly if calling it in.

Decent for lunch, although more expensive than many other Thai places nearby. Service and atmosphere are very nice, but the curry is usually a little bland. Their Thai soups are better, and good for cold weather days.

It was strange when the waitress refused to take all of our orders, saying it was too much food for us. That’s not her place to comment on; we’re paying for what we order, not asking for free meals. We definitely won’t be coming back.

Mediocre at best. The curry was watery and there are raisins in the salad. Who does that? Will not return.

We are staying at an Airbnb very close to this restaurant so we decided to walk down and give it a try since it had a 4.5. when we ordered our food we got really good service and we were happy until we received our food. Two out of three dishes tasted very old and the meat was rancid. All three dishes have very small portions as well. Obviously we did not eat the food and we'd left because we were afraid of getting sick. After we ordered the food it came in like 5 minutes. It was steaming hot and apparently it was microwaved. For $18 for a plate, you'd expect to get a pretty good portion of fresh food. Very disappointing.

Bad customer service. I called in for a takeout. That was fine, I wanted to add egg rolls to my orders while he was taking my order, someone else walks into the restaurant. he was concerned more about the other customer than that just walked in he got his food before I got mine and that upset me. The food was not that good at all

Came here on a quiet Saturday night, the place is 10% full but the waitress was in a big rush, did not take our full order before she flew away, forgot one dish we ordered (we only ordered 2). And the food was only edible, the duck was not fresh (it smells badly).

Today was the 2nd time we bought our meals from the restaurant. The first time it was 5 stars. We have a baby, so we always ask if they can make our food not spicy. My son loved the yellow curry the 1st time, that's we we reordered it again. When I spoke to the man,he told me they will make all our food without chili, but that is not what we received. The lamb shanks were so overcooked(hard to chew), the yellow curry was very spicy, the Thai tea tasted bad. I hope this was a one time off kinda thing. I won't be reordering from this restaurant. Made the mistake of going back - the food was horrible.

P

The food were not that great. I ordered red curry beef and the meat has a strange game taste to it. Eventually it made me sick after eating their food. On top of that, they over charged me for the food I ordered. Because they didn't tell me about the rice. Last but not least, their customer service kinda sucks. I don't think they like black people in their place. It wasn't the best warm welcome I got from them. I won't recommend going to this place ever again. Abandon all hope if you go. But again goodluck.

I would give zero stars if I could. I've eaten here before without issue, but yesterday got crying tiger, basal fired rice with chicken, and red curry. Brought it home started taking bites and there was 3 to 4 long black hairs in the rice deep in the food. The curry had no flavor, and I know flavors. I called for a remake or refund and they said come back for refund. Threw the food away, today they refused to refund. Worse place ever, so unsanitary and to be lied to about the refund shocking. Will never go here again.
