One of my favorite places to go. The staff is always friendly and the food is always delicious. It really is a small town diner with a big time heart.

L
Linda J

Great food. Prices are also good. The dessert looked good but the breakfast was so filling I didn't have room. The service was also good.

M
Megan

Always great food, always great service. We had the option for breakfast and lunch around 10:30. I believe breakfast is available all day. Has always been a favorite and will continue to be so.

Family run, amazing food! They cook to please. A bit of a wait ( cut they are popular) but patience pays off! We love the owners!!!!

This diner is in the former Montgomery Wards building. Busy place, very popular, big menu. I got there about 30 minutes before closing, got a tuna salad sandwich and coffee. Nice folks, understaffed.

H
Heidi Turner

Excellent staff, good diner food. It was very busy because of college family weekend, yet the staff was still smiling and friendly. Amazing homemade dessert selection!

J
Jenna Landon

Great as always. The food was great. We were accommodated very well, considering we were part of a giant group during a pretty busy time. Definitely a destination when we're back in Potsdam. 😊

My favorite diner with the very best atmosphere! They have the best specials daily, so many favorites! Family friendly, kind staff, big menu!

Whenever we're here from Kentucky to visit our loved ones in Colton, it's a family tradition to stop in for breakfast. We've never been disappointed!

L
Lisa Race

Always has the best food, good portions and very nice staff. Some extra napkins would be nice but other than that no complaints ever

L
Laura Schneider

Delicious! Perfect portions, hot coffee-topped off many times. Love the locals coming in for breakfast early on a Saturday. Genuinely kind people in this North Country diner. Leave room for pie.

Always a cozy place to come to for breakfast or lunch. The service here is unmatched and you feel like you're amongst family right as you come through the door.

Good was very good. The owner was wonderful. They have a lot of homemade pies and cheese cakes to choose from. I recommend the raspberry pie.

Absolutely love this place. Serving sizes were fantastic. I love the atmosphere and how people were talking to one another. Have the pancakes

Visiting Potsdam College and stumbled into the Village Diner. And we are so glad we did. Great Atmosphere with great food.

SO GOOD... One of our favorite places to eat in the North Country. Reminds me of a Small Family spot from childhood, with Mom at the Helm.

C
Cheryl Oakes

Love the food and u get your money's worth and some. The people are so nice! Just a GREAT place to eat!

C
Candee Smith

I called ahead and placed an order for take out. They had it all ready for me when I got there. Great service and I was able to get right in and out with very little wait time.

E
Earl Cook

I love customer service, and a good home style restraunt, the village diner has sufficient staff to keep customers waiting to fill that "where is that waitress" gap. Best of all, they do Google/ipay. Big fan.

B
Brian Meifert

Had a good breakfast here before heading home after dropping our oldest at Clarkson. Homemade hash was excellent, and our server was helpful and friendly.

E
Emmanuel Atindama

Great coffee, for a small village diner. Lovely atmosphere and excellent service from the waiters & waitresses. They are quite short-staffed, and so you might have to wait a long time for your food on weekend mornings

B

Probably the best chief salad in Potsdam. I always get it with the chicken, but I pick the chicken out and save it for last because why not. I don't know how they prepare and cut the lettuce, but it is perfect. I thought that the broccoli in the salad was odd, but they use to little of it that it isn't overwhelming. Not a huge fan of the location, but I can't fault them for that.

Relatively new to Potsdam, I’ve been to the Village Diner a couple of times. I’m a brunch guy... you can’t go wrong w/ the omelette, or pancakes! Just had the Kodak Island Breakfast Sandwich w/ 2 eggs, grilled Roast Beef, fried onions and melted cheese on a grilled Kaiser Roll. It was amazing! Family atmosphere, great place to eat or pass the time w/ coffee and talking to some of the regular customers. All the staff are engaging, intelligent and will keep you laughing w/ their great humor! Beth, Fraely, Denise and and Cathy are awesome and go out of their way to make you feel at home. The Village Diner is a great place to eat in Potsdam!

L
Leah Delorey

The Village Diner never fails to create a great atmosphere and great food! As a recent Clarkson grad I've been going here since freshman year. They do a wonderful job at making it feel like home🥰

I love hometown diners, and this fits the bill. Nice to see friends gather in groups here. Different menu specials each day. Just wish they were open later into the afternoon.

A

Frequented by both locals and college students. Pretty damn good diner with the basics at a very cheap price. My suggestions are the breakfast sliders (when it's available), carnivore omelet and their blueberry pancakes. They also do a pretty nice poutine.

K
Krystal Hewer

This is the nicest place in Potsdam. Always clean, always delicious, but its the kind staff that make this a frequent spot. They really get to know regulars and are amazing with kids small to tall.

C
Charles Sammons

Always nice. They always have a great soup of the day. Breakfast is always good, today I had the tomato bisque with a grilled cheese and ham sandwich. Simple perfection to warm a cold winter day.

B

Great Kodiak Omlette with fantastic home fries. Very welcoming atmosphere. In town to visit my brother and found Village Diner highly recommended online and I concur. Coffee is great too!

S

Staff is so friendly and know their customers by name. Always seems very busy and the waitstaff keep calm and collected. Never had a bad experience and definitely recommend.

B

I’ve been a few times over the past year and I’m sad that I haven’t gone more often! The first couple times I went with standard diner fare - eggs, hash browns, bacon. I wish the bacon were crispier but didn’t think to ask. Otherwise just what you’d expect from a hometown diner. I went the other day and decided to try a special and was blown away by how good it was and it was something I’d never expect at a small diner (a pesto caprese burger). Staff was friendly. Food was good. Prices were fair. Will be back more often.

Besides the fact that this gem is hidden in the back reaches of Potsdam, it was probably the best lunch I have had! The wait staff was so friendly, the food was good and the dining room was so cute.

E

Stopped in this morning for breakfast. The staff were very festive for St Patrick’s Day. Was so nice to see. I enjoyed O’Halloran’s green eggs and ham. It was delicious. We did not have to wait long for our food. The owner Denise was very friendly and our server Sue was great. I highly recommend this restaurant.

M
Michael Patten

Small place but not too cramped. Waitstaff were nice and made good dessert recommendations. The pie here is delicious. I had breakfast food for dinner with a friend and the egg sandwich I ordered was perfect. I'd definitely eat here again.

S
Sarah Cudlipp

I absolutely adore this place! My only wish is that it was bigger because it is so popular that it is always packed! The food and the staff are absolutely amazing and always attentive no matter how full the diner is. They make a point to talk to everyone at the table instead of just addressing each table as a group. The prices and selection of the food is also fantastic! Just a lovely small-town diner!

J
Joseph Fitzsimons

Had a ten minute wait. My eggs Benedict were great!

M
Molly Kaye

We have been here twice. First time we had wait second time not. Food fantastic and waitress was so much fun... Celebrated Elton John's birthday weekend... Specials all with Elton John songs in the name. Will definitely return!!!

J

This is a classic diner experience- amazing food, lovely staff, and a fun atmosphere. The pancakes and omelettes are enormous and the coffee is great. It can get pretty busy on the weekend mornings on account of all of the students, but if you catch it early it's a great place for a quick bite.

C
Chrissy DiNardo

Excellent food waiter was great too considering how packed they were

D
Dustin Long

This restaurant is the classic diner feel tucked in a retail shopping area. The menu items are typical comfort food items, but the selection of some items like the omelet choices stood out to me. Nobody in my family left hungry and they all ate every bite. I will be back!

S
Sandra Loeb

Good food. Wish I'd been hungry enough after quiche to have pie. Some of the best piecrust I've had in a while.

T

My wife and I love this dinner so much. If we go out for breakfast you can bet we'll be coming here. Food is amazing and cooked to your liking. If you leave hungry it's your own fault.

G
Gary Allen Vollink

Got breakfast here three times now. They do real curbside delivery (as well as dine-in). Food is always good, and this is the one place that was recommended to us by a local Potsdam resident. Today, they forgot to bring the coffee I ordered, but they called me back before the light changed, so I could swing back around right away. ... Good recovery from making a mistake is the mark of a really well run business.

First time and I absolutely loved it! The food was so delicious, everyone was so kind. We had a great conversation with our server about us moving to the area. Overall wonderful morning at the Diner!

Very good diner food. Staff is always friendly and the menu has a good variety. Lots of different baked goods too.

I live in Atlanta, Georgia and am up in Potsdam, NY for just a couple days. I wanted to give a huge shout out to Hope (and the rest of the wait staff) for the great service I received yesterday morning when I came in for breakfast. I am a member of the Facebook page "You know you went to college in Potsdam if..." and before I left Atlanta for my trip north, I asked for suggestions of where to eat in Potsdam. You can guess what all the Clarkson and Potsdam alumni suggested for dinner (Sergi's), but for breakfast, it was an overwhelming recommendation for the Village Diner! I ate breakfast there yesterday and my portion was so big that I brought half of it back to the motel for breakfast this morning. Hope was amazing as a waitress visiting my table just the right amount of times to make sure everything was right, refilling my coffee and water when needed. She is definitely a keeper as a waitress. Thank you for the great experience yesterday morning!

Staff is very friendly and helpful. Your coffee cup never gets empty while dining there. Very knowledgeable staff when presented questions about a menu item and obtaining a gluten friendly meal. Good job!

B

Excellent breakfast spot in Potsdam. Friendly service. Doesn’t look like much, but the food is outstanding. Friendly service too. Can tell the place is the go-to spot for locals for a great breakfast.

The Village Diner is, by far, the best local establishment in the county. Their staff is friendly, food is not only delicious but also reasonably priced with big portions, and their daily specials are creative, innovative, and ever-changing! Whether you want breakfast, lunch, or dinner food - healthy or comfort - or just dessert - the Village Diner has something for everyone. They are fast, reliable, and CONSISTENT! It is super difficult to find a restaurant that literally “nails it” every. single. time. And if you are lucky enough to visit during the warm months to visit the ice cream trailer, you are in for an unbelievable treat! Alcoholic ice cream, dessert nachos, quarts of soft serve to go, I could honestly go on forever! From pie, to ice cream, to waffles, to burgers, to salads, to sandwiches, to eggs, this place TOTALLY ROCKS MY WORLD. Try it. I dare you. You won’t regret it.

N

Friendly, hometown feel where everyone knows your name. Wonderful place to get a great bite to eat! Recommend eating off the specials since you may only see the special once!!

Doesn’t look the greatest from the outside, but it has the best breakfast ever! Our favorite spot when we visit our son at college. The best omelettes and the most amazing blueberry pancakes! Service is awesome as well!

C
Chad Adams

Looks somewhat shady from the outside but don't believe your eyes!! Inside was clean and neat and the service and food was outstanding!! I've never had a corned beef hash omelet but this was AMAZING!! The whole family enjoyed breakfast which was quick and great service too!

S
Sierra DiOrio

My fiance and I go here frequently, as we have claimed it as "our diner" for our breakfast dates. The staff is always so friendly and helpful. We always get out food in a timely manner, even when the place is packed. Everything always tastes great (the omelets are AMAZING) and you get a decent amount of food for not a lot of money! The coffee and desserts are amazing as well!

Only been in there twice, and once was just to break change, but let me tell you something: this place has an extremely welcoming atmosphere. This cozy little diner smells like heaven when you walk through the doors, and you can tell they all take pride in what they do. The hospitality makes you feel like you're at home, amongst family and friends. If you're in Potsdam, and you're hungry, stop in and see the fine folks down at Village Diner.

J
Jesse Daniels

Very cute diner. Food is fresh and ingredients are locally sourced, and you can tell. Gluten-free toast was offered so as someone suffering from Celiac Disease I am thankful. The owner was our waitress and you can tell she's a hard worker. Please show her some support. There aren't many places to get breakfast around Canton and Potsdam, so I am thankful we have a place to go. Will be visiting again soon.

C
Christopher Mcgeoghegan

Watched a fly land on an elderly lady’s head. Watched an additional fly land on her head. She did not react. Very good food and atmosphere. Killed a fly myself, did my part. (They have a bit of a fly problem but they definitely make up for it)

I live in Canton but I still make the 11 mile drive to Potsdam specifically to go to the Village diner. This place has exceptional service and they always treat me like family. The food is fantastic and very reasonably priced. The diner is a very popular spot during the weekends especially. The wait, if any, is never too long and well worth it. See you there.

A
Amanda

Great little diner! I order takeout from here for my office and they get it right every time. I also take my kiddos here for breakfast on the weekends. Their hometown vibe, consistency in quality food prepared well, fair prices and great service makes them such a local gem!

Amazing service and food. Stopped for lunch this afternoon. I'm one to stick with what I usually eat but today I tried the Roast beef and Swiss sandwich with roasted garlic mayo and a cup of beef barley soup. I ate half before taking this photo but absolutely delicious

A very comfortable atmosphere, caring staff that are very attentive, and a HUGE menu of delicious food that is priced very fairly. The desserts are the star of the place, and the huge selection of home-made pies make for a hard choice after a delicious meal!

It is a small town diner with a big heart. Staff is wonderful. Dressed for Halloween and doing an SNL Lawrence Welk skit from back in the day. The food is great and the desserts are a list of about 25 different types of pie. A must visit.

Great food, friendly staff, warm atmosphere. My wife and I went here on a recommendation from a co-worker. The server has a great sense of humor and was able to answer our questions about the menu. They were even able to accommodate a special request, which is not always easy to find these days. The restaurant was decorated for the holidays and looked festive and cheerful. The food was hot, fresh, and delicious. We will definitely pin this place to go back to.

One of the very best spots in Potsdam, it's legendary among my family. The absolute best place to get breakfast in the area and you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. If you feel like pie, they have all kinds of fresh choices to choose from. You must try this place if you haven't yet!

This has been a longtime favorite of my me and my husband. We had so many of our first dates here, and recently our wedding reception. We did this both for sentiment, and because it is our favorite place to eat in the area. The staff are the nicest people around, and the food is just phenomenal. They also have a wide array of homemade desserts! Definitely worth stopping in!

N

Consistently the best diner in the area. But they do need to clean the cobwebs in the corners of the ceiling and train waitresses to only touch the handles of the cutlery.

One of the few things I miss about living in a college town is college diner food. We recently traveled from Buffalo to Potsdam to visit friends and ended up at the Village Diner for breakfast on Sunday morning. The place was packed but we were able to get a table rather quickly. The server was very friendly and helped walk us through the menu and was kind enough to split checks for our big group. I ordered a breakfast sandwich and an M&Ms bagel (because why NOT?) and my husband ordered a large breakfast platter. In addition, we all ordered coffee and juice to go with our meals. The food was exactly what you’d expect from a college diner – big plates of greasy, bad-for-you food. Just what we were looking for after a long night of drinks with friends. My only “complaint” is about the menu offerings and the price. There was only one breakfast platter option on the menu. Usually diners will have several platters to choose from. In addition, the prices seemed really high. The best part about going to a diner is the quantity of food for the relatively cheap price – this wasn’t really the case here. We would definitely go back, but it’s not the BEST diner for the price that we’ve ever been to.

Must-go restaurant while in Potsdam NY! My sencond time here. It's very homey and popular to locals and college students. The staff are friendly and efficient. Good diner food with reasonable prices. Stopped by to have breakfast on a Sunday while visiting my son at SUNY Potsdam. Had "Miss Piggy" omelette. It was good. Coffee was so-so but it was bottomless by frequent check from waitress. Others liked their food also. Again good food and great service.

M
Megan Thayer

I went with a group of people mid morning on a Sunday. It was pretty crowded, however it was only a 5 minute wait to get seated. Even though they were short staffed our waitress did a very good job. She got our drinks fast, and was attentive to our needs. Our table ordered a variety of items. For the most part everyone seemed to like their food. I had eggs benedict, which was really good. I tried my friends hash browns and they were ok. I really didn't care for them. They seemed like they weren't cooked enough. Overall service and food was good. However, it seemed a little expensive for breakfast.

Had a pretty good eggs bene here- no complaints! 😋

This is a very cute diner in Potsdam that is somewhat hidden in an enclosed small mall. We had brunch, and my broccoli and cheese omelet was delicious. My husbands hash and eggs were good, too. Very friendly local vibe, the pastries look awesome.

Sabrina Hamill

Nice local joint if you want to experience where the college students go. The food was good took a while to come out though - hence the deduction of a star. the cost was a little steep for what you got as well. But their fries and Canadian poutine was delicious.

M

I recommend this home town diner. Just because of that simple quality. It has simply good home town food. Anouther great quality is, along with the warm home made soup they makefrom search everyday...its the warm feeling you get when your greeted by the hostess. Try it out,...you'll agree.

L

Had a fun time at breakfast with my girlfriend! I had the flapjack challenge, and she had blueberry pancakes. Sadly our pancakes were quite dry, which makes it harder to complete the challenge, but the bacon was delicious! The staff was great and the art is fun. Definitely recommend!

B
Bill Wildey

Food is just ok. I'd eat at Eben hearth instead. Wait staff was excellent. Not very big inside however carrying on a conversation wasn't an issue. Set in a small strip mall the restrooms are in the open public area a fair distance from the restaurant. Very run down and dirty.

D
Dan Salazar

Service was excellent! I was never without coffee, and didn't need to ask. Atmosphere was what one would expect at a local diner. I went around breakfast time, so I got the Heart Attack sandwich. It wasn't great -- bland at best. If I do go back, I'll definitely order something else.

Jeffrey Clute

This place is average. Tables were clean. Waitresses were friendly but having their own loud conversation. The breakfast I had was the Farmers Omelette, and it was good but the home fries were cold and dry, and as you can see, the toast wasn't even warm when it was buttered. The reason I gave three stars and not less is because my breakfast was brought to the table very quickly and the coffee was really good. All in all, I think I'll drive a little further for breakfast next time.

Kelley L.
Kelley L.

I had the eggs benedict with hash browns. My guests had the tuna melt with corn chowder, another eggs benedict, waffles with a side of hash browns and an egg sandwich. Great hollandaise sauce oh, it was so good! We also got a muffin pudding dessert to share and that was delicious as well! A few disappointing things, much of their food seemed to not be homemade even though that's what all the signs said on the outside of the building. Also, the waffles seemed to be more like toast and something we could buy out of the freezer section of the grocery store, sadly. Would I go back? Maybe. Definitely 50/50.

V
Veronica James

Waitress was great. Food was not. Mine has been microwaved so long that it was crispy and hard, in edible. Potatoes had no seasonings. Will not return.

j
jeremy riedl

Friendly and efficient waitstaff, but the portions are small for the pricing. I paid $5 for a breakfast sandwich on a bagel which had egg, cheese and spinach. It was tiny. It was about the size of a MacDonalds egg Mcmuffin. I grew up in Central NY where there are many excellent diners where the food is cheap, simple, delicious, and the portions are generous. This is probably the first diner I have ever walked out of hungry. They make a lot off of the college kids, but don't go there if you are used to traditional diner experience or you will be disappointed.

N
Nathaniel Todd

The menu looked more interesting than your typical diner, so we gave it a shot and were a bit disappointed. The breakfast sandwiches sounded good but were a bit bland. I can see going back but I definitely won't go out of my way to do so. Also one piece of advice: don't order the Skip Scramble.

J
Jake Cohen

My friends seemed to enjoy this place a bit, but I left with a pain in my stomach that could rival even the deadliest stomach flu. The food isn't great and it is in a weird place in town. If you really can't wait or need the space for a party big enough go there but it just isn't worth it in my opinion.

M
Megan R

First time I've been here since 2007. Prices went up and the portions went way down.. Staff is very friendly, but the food is just really disappointing.. For $8 I got blueberry French toast, and it was sparse.. The blueberries were teeny and the French toast was made with miniature slices of bread. Honestly, I should have saved the money because I can make better food at home.

A

$70 for 2 adults and a child, the amount of food we got for that price is insane.

We were very disappointed by the food and by the coffee. The service was great, but for us it was not worth the price. We do not recommend it.

C

Nice environment but food not so good. Toast burnt and cold, pancakes not good, eggs over cooked. Waitress didn't even come back after giving us our food. Don't think we will returning .

J

30 bucks for breakfast was way too much. Limited menu selection and no substitutes. Extra for Maple Syrup. Coffee was good. Service was good when they got done talking.

J

did not eat here, we had to walk out because it smelled like mold. this is what looked to be mold in the font entrance ceiling tiles.
