This place truly captures the soul of Kolkata street food. The kochuri with ghugni was absolutely outstanding, perfectly crisp on the outside, soft inside, and packed with authentic flavors that instantly reminded me of home. The kathi roll was equally amazing, with well-spiced filling and that classic Kolkata-style wrap done just right. We also tried vegetable chop, fish fry, fulcopir singara and everything was delicious. And to finish it off, the rosogolla was soft, fresh, and melt-in-the-mouth, exactly the kind you crave when you’re missing home. Every bite felt nostalgic and comforting. Highly recommended for anyone looking for real, home-like Kolkata food in New York. Sitting area is relatively small but the owner's welcoming attitude is something I appreciate.
We wanted a different meal and that’s we tasted. Although we’ve been in many areas of India we have never tasted the Bengali cuisine. We discussed choices with Debjani and he recommended the Luchi & Chholar Dal and the Kochuri & Aloor Dom. Both dishes were very enjoyable. He recommended the Roshogolla for desert and it excellent. The Resturant is very simple and there are only two tables - seating for 8. Look at the menu - they have a large take out selection for gatherings.
This place is a gem. We had the mutton curry and paneer, excellent flavor and worth every penny. A plus for the owner being very sweet and extremely accommodating to us and our requests. A great local spot you don't want to miss.
A Hidden Gem for Bengali Food Lovers! If you’re craving authentic Indian Bengali food, look no further—this place is hands down the best in the US! I’ve only found three Indian Bengali restaurants across the country, and this one truly feels like home. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with a lovely Bengali lady (the owner) cooking everything fresh with so much love. From the moment we walked in, we felt like we had been transported straight to Kolkata. Now, let’s talk about the food—because, wow. We had Koraishutir Kochuri with Alur Torkari, Egg Chicken Roll, and Fish Fry, and every single bite was perfection. The roll and the fish fry are absolute must-tries—crispy, flavorful, and incredibly nostalgic. And then came the desserts—a dream come true! Malpoa with Rabri, Patishapta, Gurer Roshogolla, and Komolabhog—each one better than the last, each bite melting in our mouths. We were in Bengali food heaven. Most items are available for walk-in, but if you’re looking for specific fish dishes or anything that takes longer to prepare, I’d recommend calling ahead. If you’re from West Bengal, love Kolkata-style food, or just want to experience the magic of true Bengali cuisine, you have to visit. This place is a rare find, and I can't wait to come back!
This place is AMAZING! I really like Indian food but this authentic food from Kolkata (Calcutta) is truly delicious. Please forgive me as I do not know the names of the dishes but the tilapia dish, the coconut curry shrimp and the lentil soup were wonderful. Try the desserts too as they are top notch. The family that runs the place is genuine, hospitable and kind, and I hope to get to go back soon.
An Absolute GEM of a Culinary Delights. Homemade Kolkata Style Street Fare that will win your heart & your stomach over once you try the Delicious Fare at @Kamala kitchen
If you want to experience the most authentic taste of Kolkata, there’s no better place in the NY Tri-State area. The food here is so delicious, it will transport you straight to the streets of Kolkata. I highly recommend the kochuri and cholar daal, which are served hot and fresh. Their egg chicken roll is incredibly flavorful, especially the chicken filling—it’s simply outstanding. I also tried the goat curry with rice, which tasted just like a comforting, home-cooked Sunday meal.
It’s very hard to find authentic Kolkata Bengali Cuisine & foods from this place are very close to that. Kolkata Style Egg Chicken Roll was super delicious, crispy ness on the outside roti is very similar to Kolkata Street Style food. Inside filling was packed with flavor, tasty & very filling. The portion size was good too. Went again & tried Kochuri & Aloor Dam, Fish Fry & Fish Chop. Inside Kochuri there was daal filling which is very much Authentic Kolkata style, Aloor Dam was tasty too. Fish Fry & Fish Chop were very delicious, coating was very crispy & inside filling was very flavorful. Kasundi & onions come as side which very much Kolkata style touch. Reminds me of Authentic Kolkata Street Style Foods. Owner is very friendly & super nice. Highly recommend if you’re looking for authentic Kolkata Style Bengali Cuisine. Their Chicken Chap is very very close to Kolkata Style & it’s delicious. PS: Edited Because of second visit

Great experience. The owner was very kind and helpful. The food was fantastic. It's obvious there is so much care in the making of the food. The spice was excellent, everything was delicious! The goat curry and potatoes was the best I ever had! The interior is very cozy and plenty of room for big gatherings! Prestigious and yet relaxing. I highly recommend this restaurant. They are doing the family friendly delicious cuisine the way it was meant to be done!
Just like my mom makes it! Cholar dal hit the spot and the mishti doi was so creamy. Too good 🥹🥹
Delicious Bengali Kolkata style food. Coordinating food for 120 people is no small feat, but Kamala Kitchen's catering service exceeded expectations in every way. All the food was delivered on time. Our guests were genuinely impressed. We received countless compliments on the food, and several attendees asked for the caterer’s contact information for their own events.
Delicious and authentic homemade Kolkata style Bengali food. The fish fry was so good! Totally worth the trip, will definitely visit again!
Kamala Kitchen located on Hillside Avenue in Queens, is family owned and operated by the Dattas. You will find Anup & Debjani at the forefront, offering healthy, wholesome, homemade Bengali dishes that are suitable for both Indian and non-Indian palates. You can be assured of great quality & freshly cooked food just as you can be assured of humble and sincere service from Debjani and Anup all the time, whether you order over the phone, via food delivery apps or in person at the cozy, homey location. With an educational background in physics and a great understanding of family dynamics, Anup & Debjani cater to all your gastronomic needs from requesting dishes that are not on the menu to spicing up items on it to catering for large parties of 200 or more. Visits on 2 consecutive days this past week confirmed for me and my family the sheer authenticity of the numerous food options at Kamala Kitchen and of the gentle and caring people behind it. Wishing Kamala Kitchen enduring success!!
Never had Bengali cuisine before but I was welcomed so warmly and the lady helped me understand the menu and make selections. The food and chai was so fantastic, handmade with love and pride. It is so wonderful when you get to discover a family owned business like this. I’ll be back for sure!
Excellent Kolkata style food. Apart from the non-veg items, their vegetarian dishes such as dhokar dalna, aloo posto, and shukto capture the authentic flavors of Bengal. Kamala’s kitchen is a hidden gem in an unassuming set up in Hillside - highly recommended.
This is the only authentic Bengali cooking Kolkata style that is in the tri state area - the owners are warm and authentic, the food has always hit the spot - we had kochuri and Chola r dal on multiple occasions and took out a lot of dishes ( sorshey ilish, rui, sukto) - the sitting is no frills. The service is warm. The food is excellent. Strongly recommended.
We finally found “Kolkata style” good food, in a friendly and warm setting. I can feel the spirit of the “City of Joy” with the delicious, flavorful vegetable chop filled with bright red beet, mashed with other ingredients and wrapped in crispy, brown crust, followed by Luchi( a version of Puri which has distinct Kolkata touch), Cholar Dal( Chana Dal!) and Chai. Thrilled with the food, we also ordered Misti(Desserts)- it was much different than what you get in other regular sweet shops. We did order lots of food for take out. In summary, it was a great discovery, and I am very happy that I finally found a place which serves good quality food, with a nice, friendly smile and priced reasonably. In my opinion, Kamala Kitchen should be conisdered by food experts in NY Times, they will not be disappointed. Frankly NY Times may find it worth entering its name to its list during their next review. Best of luck to Mr and Mrs Datta on their wonderful efforts to bring Kolkata food to New York City.
Kamala Kitchen is for Bengalees “A Home away from Home” They bring Kolkata over to New York. Excellent Bengali Style home made food. You think of the lond awaited mouth watering Bengali Menu and they are ready to serve you. Debjani, the owner is a very well educated/ courteous/ humble and a very friendly person. They make you feel at home both Debjani and her husband. Both of them are very very welcoming. Everything in this restaurant is 100 +++++. We often visit this place whenever we long to eat Kolkata home made food, call Debjani, and she is ever ready to attend us with all the loving gestures and welcoming heart. They also take big party orders and take outs, we have done party orders with them couple of times and they proved their excellence all the time and contended us.
Kamala’s Kitchen offers authentic Bengali cuisine prepared fresh with traditional flavors. Favorites include Fish Fry, Mutton Curry, and luchi with potato sabzi and daal. The menu also features fish curry and classic Bengali sweets like sandesh and roshgolla. Though small, the restaurant provides take‑out options and delivers a truly worthwhile dining experience.- Julie Posner

I visited this place 2 days back and it is undoubtedly one of the best restaurant I have visited so far because of its authentic, delicious and mouth-watering food (especially Bengali). The service is outstanding with the owner personally taking care of us. What more, they also do catering service with the same excellent food and service quality. This place in Queens, NY is a must visit for any foodie. I'm eagerly looking forward to the next opportunity to visit Kamala Kitchen again (and again...and again...)...A Big Thanks to Kamala Kitchen...
Absolutely spectacular and authentic home-cooked Kolkatian Bengali food. Everything is phenomenal. Low in oil, high in taste - exactly the way it's supposed to be. I wish I lived closer and could eat here every day! The owners are such sweet people who are passionate about food. Prices are eminently reasonable. Tons of vegetarian and vegan options.
Wonderful meal today! My husband is a big fan of Kolkata food, and he found the flavors here very nostalgic. We especially enjoyed the Fish Fry, Fish Kofta, and the Korai Shuti Kochuri with Aloor Dom. Everything was fresh, the taste was decent, and the prices are fair. Excellent service as well—we’ll be back

Went here after a recommendation from a fried to try some authentic Bengali food. We tried their snacks. The non vegetarian snacks were better. Fish was the best. The place, people and food was definitely authentic but I wouldn't go out of the way to taste food here.
