Personally I love this place. It’s my go to for quality cocktails and nice atmosphere where you can chat with friends with ease. I have been coming here for over 8 years now. And each time had good experience. As I mentioned before cocktails are really good. Best I tried in Reading.

We enjoyed eating at the Reading Room last night. The whole experience was amazing. It wasn’t our first time there, so I’m happy the standard is consistently high. The food was delicious and looked beautiful. The staff were very professional and although they were always nearby, it didn’t feel awkward. The dinner finished with a really sweet, personal touch - couple of chocolates on a plate with a sign „happy anniversary”. I highly recommend the restaurant.

My daughter and I had dinner here this eve and the food is amazing. The presentation is gorgeous and everything was perfectly cooked. Would have loved to have met the chef. It is a hidden treasure. The cost is very reasonable given the quantity. The portion size is appropriate given the high quality of the food. This was better than most places we went to in London! Lovely service and drinks menu! Highly recommend. Michelina Fato. Pittsburgh Pa. USA.

Outstanding. I can honestly say this was one of the best meal me and my husband have even had and we love to dine out at nice restaurants. The food was to die for and we could not fault the service provided, they go above and beyond. Not only do you get what you ordered but you also get given complimentary Amuse-Bouche and some bread and flavoured butter. The food is very well priced for the quality you get, we had 3 courses each and a bottle of wine which come to £200. Would highly recommend you trying this as your next restaurant.

My husband chose this place to celebrate our anniversary this year, he saw they serve oysters (and I love oysters). They don’t serve oyster any day but Fridays and Saturdays, unfortunately. We tried to order some with not success so worth noting here. After few seconds of disappointment we decided to choose our dishes and we both made great choices. Sophisticated dishes e great taste. They did offer a complimentary starter with bread and herb butter which was great and another started which I don’t remember the name but not for our taste. For desert, his choice was the dark chocolate option and he loved it. To conclude we had a nice “Happy Anniversary” message. Service was good. It was great choice for our anniversary celebration, thanks.

Absolutely wonderful experience. We went there for a birthday and from the greeting at the reception to the final meal, everything was excellent. Waiters are very attentive and stay close by. We choose to opt-out of the wine flight on our 7 course. I loved a solid 6 of the 7 items with the exception being the pear course because I personally don’t like pears. The lovely touch of the birthday “plate” was appreciated. Highly recommended.

A lovely afternoon tea had at the Reading Room this afternoon. A variety of fresh sandwiches, two varieties of scone (plain and cranberry) and a great selection of bite sized cakes too. Requesting an extra serving of clotted cream wasn’t a problem - and it was provided without any additional charge. Service here was very good from the entire team - from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. We were talked through all of the food options in front of us and our enjoyment of the tea was ensured as well. As afternoon tea goes, the price here is a little higher than usual, but for the quality of the food, the excellent service and the wonderful setting, it was worth every penny. And the nicest touch was the ‘happy birthday’ plate with a truffle for each of us.

I would go as far as to say this was the best meal I've had in Reading. Really really good. Had a meal there with my pregnant wife and parents. Food was really great, every dish and every course. Plated beautifully, portioned perfectly. I'm a chef, I would know. Staff were excellent, attentive without being overbearing, all clearly knew the menu inside out, explained each dish beautifully and ensured every aspect of my pregnant wife's meal was suitable and safe. Even went out of their way to make special mocktails for her. Really went the extra mile and I was hugely impressed. Really comprehensive and quality drinks menu. Look forward to my next visit. 5****** 🙏

We had afternoon tea, which was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. The staff were super friendly and very helpful. They went the extra mile, taking pictures of us and bringing a birthday plate with truffles for the birthday girl. It's pricey but you definitely get a premium experience.

Knocked off my feet with the quality and presentation of our evening meal. This is a hidden gem, chef outstanding, where is his Michelin star?. Dessert was on the same level. Bravo to all.

Lovely restaurant. Excellent tasting and beautifully presented food. Staff were smart and very professional. Service was superb and staff were discretely attentive. Not cheap but good quality for the quality of the food and wine. I was there for a weekday birthday lunch and it was not crowded. Reasonably well sound attenuated which is important for me because I have a hearing impairment. I could have a conversation because the background music was subdued and not intrusive. Highly recommended.

Lovely atmosphere food excellent if a little too precious. Didn't like the the amuse-bouche as had truffle oil on it which I detest and would never have ordered if on a menu. Apart from this unfortunate start the meal was excellent and a visual delight.

Simple ingredients, well executed. Presented by a very friendly team. Maybe the dairy free dessert could do with an alternative for people who are not so much into pears but again, very well prepared.

What an experience. We went there for our anniversary and it did not disappoint. A welcoming and friendly atmosphere with food to compliment how luxurious this place is. The lamb was my favourite so would defo recommend getting that.

We went for Valentine’s Day, the place looked really nice. Food was outstanding, specially the linguine with black truffle sauce and the Panna cotta.

Quiet, refined, elegant with lovely food, considered service with care and attention. It is higher cost than other restaurants and worth it. Mains are £23 to £32. Glass of Prosecco was £9, cocktails £11, mocktails £7, desserts £12. Everything was delicious with an amuse bouche and lovely bread and herb butter on the house. Second time here and would happily dine again.

An absolutely outstanding experience from start to finish! I chose this place for our anniversary meal and mentioned it in my booking notes. They went above and beyond by hosting us in the Whiskey Room for private dining and even surprised us with some extra specials from the kitchen. The food was exceptional—each dish a masterpiece—and it truly felt like a memorable culinary journey. The quality was impeccable, and the flavors were perfectly crafted. To top it all off, the value was incredible for such an elevated dining experience. I would wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone looking for a special occasion or just an unforgettable meal. Five stars all the way!

I dined in the restaurant in October 2024 and thoroughly enjoyed my experience here. It was a Friday night and the restaurant was very busy and with a number of international visitors (always a good sign!). I ordered the pea soup, as well as the lamb main. I also had a couple of things from the tasting menu which were delicious and the wine was great. I dined alone in the restaurant and felt 100% comfortable doing so. There were so many amazing servers at my table. I also met Simon, who made sure I was having a great experience. Really enjoyed the ambient music and great atmosphere. Thank you to all the staff for a wonderful evening. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Wow what an experience dining at the Reading Room Roseatte. We were looked after the moment we stepped through the door of the hotel and the doorman held open the large wooden beautiful doors. Located in the basement the Resteraunt is a delightful oasis of tranquility where every member of staff goes out of their way to help. We were looked after at our table by a waitress and the supervisor and wow were they amazing. We had the tasting menu and they explained every dish and glass of wine in such detail and so eloquently. They answered any question we had with ease. The food itself was pure perfection and I can’t thank the chef enough for every delicious morsel. The presentation was also outstanding. For drinks we had the flight of wine which I totally recommend and is worth every penny and also a lovely mocktail. All in all it was a superb experience. The only one minor detail I would mention is on entry our table wobbled. Our waitress immediately rectified it by kindly and efficiently placing some paper under the leg but if that could be taken care of before arrival it would be great. But this is such a minor point because the experience from end to end was amazing. Most of all the food was delicious and the waiting staff were incredible and I can’t thank them enough. They went way above and beyond and made the day so special and memorable. I unequivocally recommend the Reading Room Roseatte.

We had a really lovely evening here - top quality food, friendly service and a very cosy, relaxed vibe throughout the evening. They also accommodated my request for a little birthday surprise for my wife, which was lovely. It's only an occasional treat on our budget, but we definitely want to come back at some point!

Loved the meal. Service was fabulous. The waitress ‘Alina’ I think her name was extremely attentive and friendly. Very much enjoyed the pianist, he was grand. Listening to his versions of modern day music and translating that into classical music was outstanding. Defo would visit again. Thank you

We had a wonderful lunch. My son says it's the best Lasagna he's had, my wife enjoyed her Gnochi, and I enjoyed my burger. The service was excellent and very helpful with our dietary requirements and requests.

My wife and I had the Tasting Menu with accompanying wine for dinner. Each course, presented by a Chef was a picture and tasted delicious. The portion sizes were also generous. This meal was one of the best we have been served in the UK. Would have no hesitation in recommending.

We had an absolutely fantastic time yesterday for my dads birthday. The food was beautifully presented and tasted amazing - generous portions too. The staff were attentive, very polite and just lovely! We had an exceptional experience, will recommend to others and we will definitely be back. Thank you for making my dads birthday so special.

Lovely place, good food, me and my friends had the tasting menu. The food was good. All cooked well and compliments to the chef. Service was on point there when we needed and was very observant of our table. Atmosphere was a nice quiet place but seemed empty. It was a 19:00 ( 07:00 ) reservation and lasted until 21:30 ( 09:30 ) on a bank holiday on Friday. Overall service was good, food was good. We paid £450 for 4x tasting menues. 1 bottle of wine and 2 x cocktails. Price was a little expensive but the food was good so can't complain. I do recommend for a nice dinner out in Reading for a celebration or a fancy dinner.

Came for afternoon tea to celebrate a birthday. I must give props for the availability of a vegan afternoon tea menu in the first place, and the food was mostly great. Unfortunately our first choices of teas weren’t available (neither of them), and it was definitely the noisiest afternoon tea experience I’ve ever had 😅 Not the fault of staff, but it definitely affected our experience.

The venue is beautiful, exuding an air of class and importance. During our visit it was very quiet though, and the place felt empty, but this is most likely due to the date and time of our visit, which was in the early afternoon during the week. Presentation of food was 10/10, but the quality was lacking, especially considering the high prices on many of the items. Our steak dish arrived severely overcooked (ordered it Medium), and a bit cold, but tasted good. The scallop starter we ordered was excellent. Well balanced flavours and perfect presentation. The staff were very friendly and acted professional. They also did a bit extra for us, which should be commended, as the nature of our visit was a celebration. If you have the money to waste and want to impress, this place should be considered. But if money is tight, but you still want quality and class, there are other places very close by which might be better for you.

Took my Nan for afternoon tea for her birthday, she absolutely loved it and so did I, food was fantastic, especially the cakes and scones, sandwiches were nice but nothing amazing, the service was very good and the staff were so friendly, nice atmosphere and the piano music was a lovely touch. It was definitely good value for money and would highly recommend.

Good restaurant in a very elegant venue in Reading. We got the 7 dishes taste menu for approx 90-100 £ with the drinks. The waiter presented every dish and offered us a nice dinner experience. Price-quality was ok, for a tasting menu which can be much more expensive in other places. The food was not perfect, for example the monkfish could have been better, but in general we enjoyed the dinner and had a great time there.

Absolutely fantastic food, beautiful location and comfortable tables. The staff are very friendly and for the most part attentive however for the caliber of restaurant I expected more, half of our party weren't offered water. Ordering took quite a while with the waitress who was clearly inexperienced writing every dish down in full while leaning on the table. And the desert course was a quite a long time coming and a very Long time to get the bill after that even though the place was pretty empty. As I said the staff were friendly enough but for the class of the establishment I expected more. I will absolutely be going back as the few let downs in service were more than offset by the food and venue.

Nice setting for breakfast with a small outdoor seating nestled in trees. It's buffet style but if you want pancakes which I have is also available.

Great venue for a up market 7 course meal.£79 provided a variety of flavors and variation in fun main meal of sirloin or monkfish. Each dish was beautifully presented and came with a description by the host.

Enjoyed our time here with my colleagues. Alina the waitress was amazing she served all 14 of us with a smile, her customer service is awesome 🤩 . The food was delicious cheers to the chef 👨‍🍳 👩‍🍳 The only downside was the manager asking us to lower our voices but don’t know what he was expecting from a table of 14 people.

We had a nice afternoon tea — the food was nice and the staff, especially the girl who served us, were warm and friendly, which really added to the experience. However, the overall atmosphere was let down by the cleanliness of the space. The walls were noticeably dirty, and the AC unit was in a similar state, which isn't ideal for a dining or tea setting. A little TLC could really elevate the place and bring it up to the standard the service deserves.

Visited the Reading Room for a work dinner to celebrate the end of a long six-month project. Our company is a local business, and teams go out for a nice dinner at the end of strategic assignments. We chose the Roseate due to its good reputation, and now massively regret that choice and our company won't be returning in future. It's a shame, as the food was high quality and our initial server was welcoming, but the service from the manager (Alina) was shocking and left us with a bad experience overall. At a restaurant like this, you pay more for the experience than the food, and the Reading Room failed to deliver. The manager (Alina) was rude about my allergies, blaming me for not being clear enough (even though I had informed the restaurant about my allergies in the online booking form, and then asked the waitress about nuts when the amusee bouche was served). She then made a comment about 'being in trouble' if I had an allergic reaction, centring her own professional worry rather than showing any concern about me being harmed if there were nuts in the dish. At a high-end restaurant like this, the least that can be achieved with the service is making the customer feel valued, rather than a burden and risk to the restaurant for having allergies. Aware that it can be financially damaging to a restaurant if they serve me nuts, but not as damaging as it would be to me (!). A minute after I paid the bill, Alina returned and questioned me in a suspicious tone about whether my card was Visa or Mastercard, seemingly testing me about whether I knew about the card I had used. Found this very odd and it left me with a bad feeling after having otherwise enjoyed the food - I got the feeling she was suspicious that I had the ability to pay a high bill for the table. As a young person of colour, I feel especially conscious of staff making me feel like I don't belong in a high-end restaurant, and it spoiled the celebration. Our table was polite, so Alina's behaviour was difficult to understand. The Reading Room has the potential to be one of the best restaurants in Reading, and it's a shame that the manager let down the rest of the staff in this instance. I get that everyone has bad days, but Alina's attitude was very strange from start to finish and seemed to treat me as an opponent to be challenged rather than a paying customer. In future we'll be supporting other local restaurants when we go out for business dinners.
