Clean inviting environment, with friendly staff and astronomical speed. The food was excellent. Give the Black Russian Sandwich a go!
Delicious, generous portions. Always take some food home which makes for a nice lunch. When I forgot to take my leftovers home, I went back 45 minutes later to reclaim it. Naturally, it was disposed of. I was asked how many chicken strips I had left, I said three. W/O question they prepared 3 strips and wished me a good day!!! Staff pleasant and efficient. I keep going back to this diner.
Had breakfast twice and lunch once here. The first time must have been an off day, food was just okay. It happens. The next two times, the food was really good. I have to say that the service was exceptional every time I've been and the place is really clean and inviting. I can't wait to try dinner here.
This venue serves delicious, fresh cooked food. It is not gourmet in nature but always a pleasure with many choices. Visit often, never disappointed. Often have to resist the Napoleon's displayed nearby if seated near the cooler. (my favorite). Very pleasant, attentive staff. Nothing is overpriced.
Super friendly. Super clean. Classic diner menu with cheery windows and an overall nice vibe
Friendly server. Quick service. I ordered roast pork. Came with salad and soup (homemade). Dinner portion very generous and everything was delicious. $20 and I took enough home for next night's dinner. Highly recommend.
Was in Red Hook at lunch time on Fathers' Day, but had no idea where to eat. Selected this diner, pretty much at random. Typical diner food, large portions and quite good. They had a very nice list of specials for the day, but our party stuck with their regular menu. Would definitely return if in the area at meal time (I live 75 minutes north of there). Also, I was impressed with the neatness and cleanliness of both the restaurant and the grounds.
Completely satisfied! I had a very nice time here. Food was amazing! The staff was awesome. One of the best Diners I have visited.
Fast, fresh food... friendly staff...good prices...fajitas came out hot with great spices. The french oinion soup is delicious with homemade croutons. Yum. The chicken pasta soup was loaded with chicken, pasta and vegetables. The three cheese burger was a good size burger cooked perfectly. The staff is very attentive. Have gone twice...will be back!
I love this place, and will be back. Located within walking distance of Lyceum Theater and had amazing food! The portions are huge, food is great, I highly reccomend the mac and cheese or shrimp in Lobster sauce. Good service and nice clean dining area with plenty of space. Run of the mill prices that one would expect of an upscale diner, and great milkshakes.
A comfortable atmosphere, very clean, friendly and accommodating staff, and food delivered fast and hot. The food quality was higher than average diner food and had a range of selections.
Adorable place with great music great service and great food! I would definitely eat here all the time if it was closer to my house. They accommodated my special dietary need including the owner ensuring that I had a good meal that was well prepared and delicious. Highly recommend! I don't remember if I peed here.
Great food! Always more than we can eat. Makes for take home leftovers. Wait staff is very courteous and polite. Never feel rushed to make room for the next customer. If friends from NC came to visit, this would be one place we'd have to take them.
Great place to eat. Staff was friendly and very attentive; we were seated very quickly, order was taken promptly and we had our drinks in a few minutes. Food was as ordered and arrived pretty quickly, even though it was busy. Meals were very good. Portions were large and filling. Overall we were very pleased. Definitely going to go back.
Wow!!! This place was amazing! We stopped in for dinner and I was quite pleased with my food. The service was excellent. My daughter enjoyed her time here. The server was attentive and very fast. I will be going back.
We stop at this diner all the time and we usually have breakfast, lunch or dinner depending on what time we are there. The food is always good and the service is always great and we usually ask to have the same waiter or waitress. We have never had any problems or issues with the food or service. The food is always hot and good tasting. We recommend this diner in Red Hook.
The staff was welcoming and a booth was available right away, which was helpful. This is a family eatery and at least two tables were occupied by folks with children two/ under. We arrived around 11:30 on a Saturday morning. We were trying to get lunch before heading to the antiques barn down the road. Wish granted! The restrooms were absolutely spotless, by the way. I ordered a chicken salad sandwich. It was loaded with salad... It was falling out the sides of the bread on every edge. I could only eat about 2/3 of it. I hate wasting food but we had no way to keep it, being on the road. I also ordered onion rings. Again, gracious plenty! Way more than I wanted/ could eat. Hubby helped eat a few. The mister ordered a kind of fabulous grilled cheese sandwich but asked them to hold the Swiss. It still looked amazing and he was quite pleased with it. I think his sandwich came with fries and he ate some but also was eating rings, so probably half were wasted. Sandwiches came with pickle and a cup of coleslaw. Drinks were large (I believe we both had iced tea)and a water in a to- go cup was no issue. The staff was super - nice and excellent at their jobs. The place was very clean. I would return in a second if I lived in the area.
The food was delicious, the service was great, and the place was super clean.
The food is good diner food. There is breakfast all day and several vegetarian options. The music is not too loud. Plenty of seating available on a random Monday for lunch. Very clean and modern bathrooms with a hand dryer that does not make you deaf, thank you.
Stopped by with friends. Had pasta with meat sauce and rice pudding for myself.
Perfect diner just where I needed it to be. Service was friendly and fast & food was delicious. Will be back!
I was visiting family in Pine Plains for Labor Day weekend, decided to come here for lunch on Sunday. It is the Cleanest diner i have ever been too wow amazing !! The staff & food is amazing !! Great size portions too. The desert case near the front looked delicious but i had my mind set on Holy Cow down the road haha. Great vist Thanks
Almost missed this Gem on the way south. Turned around and do not regret it. The young girl who seated us was amazing. The Service friendly and efficient. The food portions were huge and delicious. there was no room for the awsome looking desserts. Price was very reasonable. Glad we stopped, Highly recommend this diner. You will not be disappointed.
Went with a large group for a late lunch on a Saturday afternoon. The good: service was friendly and efficient. I was impressed with how our waitress handled such a large group, especially with all of the split checks. The food, for the most part, was also very good: the chicken on the chicken godfather sandwich was fried perfectly. The fries and pickles were awesome as well. The only disappointing part of the meal was the potato salad - it wasn't bad, just bland.
Love this diner. Food portions are huge and price is so worth the value. Service is always friendly and attentive. Food itself is tasty and comforting. One of my favorite things about this diner is they are on top of always updating their blue plate specials on Facebook. We drive up from Poughkeepsie to come here.
So sad I didn't take a picture! Some of the best diner waffles I've ever had. The pancakes were fluffy and heart. Each breakfast platter came out impressive and looked amazing. Red Hook has a jewel here with their local diner and the staff was amazing as well. Can't wait to go back!
My family stopped in and had dinner on the way back to Town of Poughkeepsie after a boat ride in Kinston. They have really good food here. Hamburger/Fries perfect. They serve breakfast all day. Wife was happy with omelet. Daughter happy with the french toast. Service was a little slow but the food was great. Nice diner inside and clean. I live about 45 minutes away but will definitely go here again.
Love this diner. If you are going through the area stop in and get a bite to eat you won't regret it.
Great diner!! Very clean!!! Great food. Can't ever go wrong with a diner.
Visiting family and went to the Red Hook Diner for dinner. Such a great selection on the menu! Large servings as well. Great service and great food! Although we didn't have dessert, the homemade selections were very hard to say no too. Definitely recommend. Bring your appetite!
Foods really good. Very quick service
I enjoyed my meal which was a tuna melt sandwich with fries I found the service very agreeable and plenty of food as well. If I wasn't so hungry I would have taken some home with me but instead ate it right there on the spot. It's located right off of Route 9 not far from the lyceum theater. Don't just take my word but visit it and see for yourself. The place is always busy and all ages.
Nice local diner, good food and fast, pleasant service. It's about a 6 or 7 minute drive west of the Taconic Parkway.
My wife and I have eaten at the Red Hook diner many times and always enjoyed it. The owner and the staff are very friendly and attentive to the customers. The food is always delicious and prices are reasonable. I specifically love the hot roast beef plate, and the Cobb salad.
Oh my, love this diner. Great food, large menu. Excellent service, very attentive to your needs. Extremely clean, including restrooms. Good prices too.
For it being a diner, the overall experience was pleasant. It seems locals frequent the diner often. Wing specials are promoted on Wednesday and special dinner options are available fri-sun. I went with a small group for dinner and each ordered unique plates. Onion soup ($12) - 7/10, I think there was great balance in flavors. I don’t have a reference for onion soup. The sweetness came through. Cajun burger w/ fries ($17) - came with a generous amounts of jalapeno. For the first time ever, we got medium rare when we asked for it! 9/10 Vegetarian burger w/fries - $16, 8/10 - giving it a good score because it was simple and straightforward. Tasted homemade as well! Not from frozen patty. Prime rib special (came with cream of broccoli soup and mashed potato’s) - $27. Prime rib was decent, did the job, cooked medium rare and it was pretty generous as well. Cream of broccoli was ok 6/10, nothing crazy. Mashed potato’s were nice 8/10. The person who ordered this was able to take roughly half home to eat from it tomorrow. The burgers all came with fries. Service was fast: atmosphere feels a bit outdated but not a damper.
My kids and I love this place, this is our go to when we treat ourself out. The staff is always so kid friendly, crayons and kid menus are a nice touch. The food is always amazing even if you have a restrictive diet like myself. That chicken maranda salad is amazing. They have so many delicious sweet treats and the portions are always enormous. I could rave on and on about this place however I simply suggest you just stop in and try it for yourself. There are two diners in town. This one has an edge for a number of reasons. 1) they accept debit cards and credit cards 2) they have plenty of parking. 3) they are more inclusive or guests 4) better portion sizes
Always stop when in Red Hook.update 11/4/23. Went with a group has been a few times since the original review. Food is still good service is always good. I would recommend getting a milkshake. We have tried probably about eight different dishes here and they never disappoint. The only thing we really don’t like are the baked goods.
Went with a friend for lunch. We were seated immediately, ordered and enjoyed our diner size servings of a salad with salmon (me) & a corn beef sandwich for my companion. The ice tea was fresh. The service done well. A good place to stop in when you're hungry.
Pretty good diner. Food is always at least average to exceptionally good. They have pretty good burgers and paninis.
Friendly, attentive service. Generous portions. Couples and adult groups when we arrived at this kid- & family-friendly diner. My husband and I each enjoyed the Meat Loaf Dinner "Blue Plate Special." To start, he had a cup of Chicken with Pasta Soup while I chose House Salad with Oil & Red Wine Vinegar dressing. The meat loaf was well seasoned. The mushroom gravy disappointed us as it was very salty, and my husband didn't care for what he considered overcooked white mushrooms. The freshly steamed, seasonal vegetables - slices of zucchini, summer squash and carrot - highlighted the 5 large, delicious slices of meatloaf. We were surprised to find 3 packets of butter on our plates.. A nice touch for diners who enjoy it on their vegetables. We took half home for lunch sandwiches. We always enjoy our meals at Red Hook Diner!
$4.80 coffee plus tax Plus your 20%;tip is $6.33 Hamburger $21.30 plus tax and tip is $27.99 $31.10 meatloaf plus tax and tip..is $41.90 A cup of soup is $8.00 ++ They say their a diner But charge restaurant Prices. This place is taking everyone for a ride
Big portions of comfort food. Reat service. Cash only.
Food was good. Staff was very outgoing. Place is spotless. Size of portions could have been larger. I had a chicken panini it was lacking in the chicken side. Parking lot is plentiful and in and out easy.
Various items we've ordered on several recent visits were excellent. Dishes were well prepared and serving size were all large. We were impressed with the salmon pannini the pork schnitzel dinner and the roast turkey dinner. Prices are reasonable especially for the amount of food served. The only suggestion is not to have the help sweep the floors while customers are dining.
Classic diner vibes. Excellent service and good came out so quickly. I loved my chicken ranch sub
A diner is a difficult concept to live up to: images of an earlier milieu are brought to mind where bitter coffee was somehow sweet and runny eggs were somehow fit for a king. Doing away with that notion, The Red Hook Diner still finds a way to partially succeed. The staff is always pleasant and courteous, and the dining room is clean and well-lit. The food, however, is where things tend to fall apart for two reasons: the quality and price. Larger portions cannot hide food that is bland. The Irish Omelette, while tasty, is a bit dry, and the home fries are often under cooked. No matter how you order your burger, it will always be well-done. There is room for improvement for the food to be more flavorful. Even with these criticisms, I am not a picky eater. I would happily eat here more often and be satisfied if it weren't for the prices. The most notable is a burger, which is $14.99. Yes, it comes with an assortment of toppings, especially the Red Hook Deluxe and the Hangover Deluxe, but the patty is dry and the price is tricky to accept when the burger is coming from a diner. Add another 3% when using a credit card, and you're better off searching elsewhere for food. So, not the best deal, but also not the worst. There are bigger things to worry about in life.
I have only been once, so far. But, excellent food, large portions, average price, friendly staff, served quickly.
This place is really great! They have a large menu and I was told everything is made to order. The staff is very friendly and will go out of their way to make you feel welcome. They have all the classic diner foods but the favorite at my table was the monte cristo sandwich. The place was absolutely spotless and had a great selection of desserts. They do not have many gluten free items so I was stuck getting a classic house salad. Overall the experience was great and I would go back again.
My better half and I ate lunch here yesterday. They have several options on their menu, everything ranging from various breakfast plates to several dinner options (including steak and seafood). I ordered the chicken gyro while my girlfriend ordered a caesar wrap. Both main dishes were delicious! I wasn't too crazy about my sides (coleslaw and potato salad) as I found them to be a bit bland. My girlfriend's fries were cooked perfectly though. Our server (Joann) did a great job by checking on us, getting our orders correct, etc, etc. I would definitely return here and suggest you give them a shot should you find yourself in Red Hook, NY.
Typical diner food in higher priced enclave of Dutchess County - prices were in line with the area but high for what is essentially sammies /burgers and fries $60+ for three with burgers and fries with two iced teas. Giant diner menu, portions were large and table service on a weekend mid-day was quick. Diner restrooms were clean and parking lot was large.
Nice diner with large menu selection. Wait staff are usually great but it was late. The manager invited us in saying the kitchen closes in 15 minutes. The young waitress was obviously angry. Took our order and threw our food on the table when served. She did not even speak to us nor offer us anything.
Hey Guys! Ok so today while is was working I got really hungry and said I Will try out The Red Hook Diner Restaurant. This was my first time in the diner. First impression as I walked in was Big and roomy. The host/manger or the old women at the register after finding out that is was her for dine-in pointed and said sit by the window. Her hospitality is very lacking in the sense that I sat by the wrong window table so she came over and and pointed at me and motioned with another point to move to a different table. It was a bit on the rude side. I would have much rather been walked to the table then pointed to. If you are the manger have some respect for the people that come in and make it so that you have a business. When I was seat a very nice tall young lady came right over to see if I had wanted any thing to drink and when she brought me my coffee she said my server would be over in a minute to take my order. Finally my server Grace came to take my order. I ordered the spinach pie it came with soup and a Greek salad which I did sub out for a regular salad and I had the pasta and chicken soup. Soup was great and the spinach pie was ok the spinach tasted like it was frozen. I was not the best spinach pie I have eaten but it wasn't the worst either. When Grace brought me my soup she did not come back till my entrée was out to see if everything was good. After my meal came she only checked on my once she did not come back again. I have to say as a server Grace is not very attentive when it comes to her tables. I really wanted another cup of coffee and Grace kept ignoring my table so I got the attention another waitress to bring me more coffee. When I asked the waitress her name she said that her name was Rose. " I said Rose are you new and (she said yes). I then told Rose that I had been in the hospitality industry for quite some time and that she was an amazing waitress. The other two servers need to take lesson on from their newbie Rose. Not only is Rose very attentive with all of her tables but also manages to stock and fill and clean. In my book Rose is the best waitress that restaurant has. I give Rose 5 stars because she definitely rose to the occasion. Over all I was not a bad experience it was not the best but it also was not the worst. The diner is very clean the bust boy break the butts to keep it clean. The only server I saw breaking their butt for the customers to make sure they had everything they needed was Rose. The only other negative thing I have to say is that the price are a bit high priced and my receipt didn't match the prices in the menu $2.69 is a lot of money for coffee and mediocre coffee at that. I would like to come back and try them for breakfast next. I did find out from the manger that you can order anything to go such as even the specials. Thank you Rose for making my experience amazing. The only reason I am giving a 4 star is because of the lack of serves I did not receive from Grace. As always have fun with what your doing and keep it Real Thank You The Real Deal 12401
My husband and I have gone here twice this month. The first time was great so we decided to go back. The second time was OK but nothing to write home about. The prices are average but the portions are very good. Both times we had salad and wings. There first time was a Greek salad that was both filling and fresh the second salad was some portabella and grilled chicken salad also tasty and filling. The wings the first time were exactly hope I like them, crispy and not too wet. The second time they were drowning in sauce and the skins we're soggy. The coffee both times was hot and fresh.
I really wanted it to be better. I ordered the biscuits and gravy. I think the gravy was bought in bulk...it was soo horrible. It tasted like preservatives. Everything else I had was good. Try and get a booth, because the seating is way to close together. Everyone is on top of each other. I will come again some day. I just know what not to order.
Delish food, sub par service. The food was worth it, however, the waiter did not check on us once to see how our food was. Only asked at the end if we needed boxes. Prefer better service, but banana nut pancakes are worth a return. Place was clean and nice inside.
I stopped for lunch. Food was very good, service was good. However, the prices are VERY high. Most lunches start around $20, way too high for a diner. Please have some mercy and lower the prices!
Food was good, waiter was excellent, the owner was rude(short sweaty haired woman)
Service was terrible. Young waitress was not polite nor courteous. Asked for mayonnaise when my burger was served, it arrived 10 minutes later after the food was cold. Kitchen only 20 feet away, I guess she wanted to save time waiting for other orders to be ready. When serving food to my family she just dropped plates on the table on top of silverware and didn’t bother to even level the plate and remove the silverware.
Food is decent for the price. Service is slow and not as attentive as they should be. Restrooms need to be cleaned more often and provide guests paper towels because the air dryer just isn't cutting it!
It was busy on a Sunday at lunch. I had high hopes, but was disappointed. Everyone has a standard for breakfast food and maybe upstate New York doesnt do it like they do in the midwest and anyone's explanation as to why would only be the expression of their own subjective values. That said, this menu was a mess. Way too big. It becomes clear that when a restaurant does it all, none of it is very exceptional. The food was fine, the service was great.
We went around 2:30pm on a Saturday, place was not crowded and it was brightly lite. They have a small selection of desserts right at the front, everything looked fresh. The fried seafood platter was good, fish and scallops were fried golden brown and tasted fresh. The turkey burger was not the best, it tasted bland, the fries was perfect. Our waitress was absent after she served us, she was very nice, and got our order to us quick. OH! they have good coffee. We will visit again in the summer and try something else.
Place was very clean and friendly. The food was just ok, not bad but just ok. My Caesar salad had Italian dressing instead of Caesar? The Philly cheesesteak my wife had was just a couple of steak-ums. The drinks were very over priced. $3.29 for a cup of hot cocoa?? $4.29 for a glass of chocolate milk?? Also a bit pricey on a short stack of French toast at $7.29. We will probably not go back any time soon.
We have been customers of this diner for at least five years. I go with my family and friends. I have never complained about anything but yesterday I ordered a turkey club. Half of it was fine. The other half had no bacon, no tomato and one quarter of it only had two pieces of bread. I was going to bring half home for lunch for the next day. When I mentioned this to the owner he became very defensive. He said they all the bacon on one side of the sandwich. Never addressed the lack of bread or tomato and he was very condescending. All that I thought would happen was he would take it to the kitchen and fix it. That was never offered. I was not looking for money off. I don't know if I will be comfortable going back. He may have just lost himself business for his lack of customer care.
My friend & I arrived at 11:30 am for a "catch-up" lunch before we were going to catch a movie, but rather than a relaxing meal, I felt from the moment we sat down that the service wanted us fed and gone. There was no line for seating and plenty of empty tables so I'm not sure what was up. The food was good "diner fare" so go for a quick bite but don't linger.
Besides our waitress, who was extremely helpful and very polite, hard working while attending school to be a nurse, this place was just eh. My fiance had a caesar salad, tasted like it was a salad that sat in a bag before they served it. I had soup, flavorless and just warm. Thank God for the salt and pepper on the table. We had the stuff shrimp and steak. Shrimp was cooked perfect, and very flavorful. Steak was to be cooked medium rare, not what we got. After cutting into it, there was very little pink and no flavor. The place was semi crowded and the atmosphere was nice. A bit noisy at times but as expected being a diner. Went to pay the bill and was not greeted nor was asked how was the meal. It had to be the owner. Absolutely no customer service.
Good place to eat in- first time ordering out today & got rushed off the phone rudely. Then to get home & see they messed up my order and gave me chicken wings not tenders (wings that were barely baked- still rubbery). Total pure disappointment, guess its only an "eat in" type of place.
Food was good, however prices have risen astronomically since my last visit. $ 3.99 for a coffee???? Will not be going back anytime soon.
Went into this diner today and the male server was terrible. I ordered a burger meal and he didn't ask me how I wanted it or anything. My girlfriend ordered a Reuben and on the menu that is offered with a couple types of meat. He didn't ask and she had to stop him as he was about to walk away to tell him what she wanted. He was very short with us and seemed miserable. Our food arrived and her Reuben was served with no sauce or anything, just dry. She has to ask for Russian dressing. My burger arrived and if it wasn't 18.99 I wouldn't complain but it was tasteless and the onion rings were ice cold. Once we were served we were never checked on again until we were ready for the check. As a matter of fact one of the other waitresses checked on us probably knowing how terrible and miserable of a server he is. Thank you to her for caring. Two people with a burger meal and a Reuben meal was over 50 dollars with tip. Why go out to these places when I cook better and no one is short with me. Ill never be back. Thanks for the disappointment and confirmation that going out to eat is a huge waste of money. Stay home, don't come here. Its terrible..
I was told the best place for breakfast in Red Hook, NY was the Historic Village Diner but when I went there it was closed for a family emergency so I found Red Hook Diner. Western omelette pretty good Toast burnt with almost no butter Home fries standard crappy no effort Pancake horrible missing baking soda When I got the bill I was stunned they charged $4 for a cup of coffee, $5 for 1 pancake and the real kicker $3 for cheese!!!…obscenely overpriced. They think they are much better than they actually are. Don’t bother…
DO NOT GO HERE! I went there with a friend and we ordered only to find flies in my soup. When I, PRIVATELY, reported it to the owner, he clearly mentioned removing my entire food cost from our bill. Then, the waitress had THE NERVE to ask me if I wanted another bowl. Lady, I don't want your fly soup from that disgusting pot. Why would I ask for a second bowl of it? WHO KNOWS HOW MANY FLIES I ALREADY ATE, THINKING IT WAS DRYING CRUNCHY ONION TIPS THAT MAY HAVE BEEN BURNT ON THE SIDE OF THE POT TO KEEP IT HOT!!! This goes to show that they did NOT throw that pot out, but rather kept serving other guests that same soup!!! Next, the waitress gave me a disgusting (tasted like the dressing is spoiling) ceasar salad. I just gagged. To make matters even worse, when we go to pay the very owner who the servers went to go get to look at my fly food pretended he don't know anything. Perhaps I shouldn't have told him privately. I should've made it loud and clear for everyone to hear. Then he had the nerve to tell the waitress to charge me for the whole meal that I couldn't even eat!!! The whole time, my friend and I were in shock. He kept sneakily looking at us sideways, hoping we wouldn't make a scene because other customers were eating the same thing. DO NOT GO EAT THERE. Tell your family and friends. Lots of other places around. RUN!!
Slow....terrible place for take out. Messy and careless when packing the food is an understatement. Also, apparently no cheese means extra cheese. Update.....Red Hook Diner does it again. Asked for plain hamburger with nothing on it. Got the complete opposite. Don't order take out without packing it yourself, inspecting every meal. Enter at your own risk.
4 of us and have been here before. We suspected new staff behind the scenes, not sure.1 egg sandwich, cheese, sausage patty. Terrible ,hung off the roll like purposely, cheese, patty had to be pre cooked.sides were hard and dry, cheese was we think individual wrapped slices, so it's a rubbery cheese . 2. Eggs, bacon, home fries.Couldn't eat the slop home fries.brown ridden grease ,mushy a few chunks and pretty sure that we're left over from yesterday. 3.scrambled eggs, toast, sausage. Scrambled eggs were the minimal, like one egg,dry as a bone, questioned the sausage patty ,the waitress said it was a chicken patty ....BUT .HE SAID IT IS NOT SAUSAGE.. She said well it's sausage ..hmmm ,and his toast dry and cracking all apart . 4.BLT ON TOAST.. So this weisenhimer in the kitchen used a bunch of CHUNKS of bacon with lettuce which was obviously the first leaf that should have been thrown away .The toast, well the minute the toothpick was removed it all fell apart. Dry and old. ,,,,,, BEST FOR LAST . WE watched coffee guy with all his carafe adding the used coffee and adding it to the a half used one ,no fresh coffee. It WAS AWFUL AND MIGHT HAVE BEEN REHEATED FROM YESTERDAY. We saw a dark skinned guy walking around looking at the customers tables plates as they were being removed .Yes and there was food left on the plates.. FOR us whoever is there or in the kitchen is terrible .To think people won't know whether they get fresh food is STUPID,CHEAP LOW AND GUARE TEED TO SINK YOURSELVES. Whoever is in that kitchen handling the food is horrendous..We won't be back.
We had decided to go to the red hook diner before heading to a movie. This was a much needed date night for us. The service was not great . The food did come out fast but our server didn’t seem to interested in us. My meal was ok. Upon eating the chicken cordon blue my husband actually chipped his tooth. The chicken was very hard, fatty and super dry . They did take the meal off the check but was sure to charge us for the soup ( which was delicious) and the salad ( which was not fresh as all ) that came with the meal . They really did not seem to care about our experience. Ended up going home instead of the movies due to the tooth pain my husband was experiencing. I was here once before many years ago and it was good back then but I will not return.
Went there for breakfast this morning, the place was crowded so we expected a little wait. The waitress came over to take our order and got us our drinks, so far so good. We waited patiently, until the table behind us got their food when they came in about 10 minutes after us, different person waited on them. Ok, getting a little upset, the icing on the cake was when a table of 5 came in and got their food before us. Mind you same waiter as the table behind us. Now that's the straw that broke the camels back. Got up and left told the man at the register we never got our food. He didn't care. Which I should have known considering how nasty he was to an older gentleman that was having trouble with the credit card machine. Done with that place!!
If I could give less than 1 star, I would. The food was dry and cold. The owner/hostess is so rude and ungrateful. Surprised it is still open. Do NOT waste your time and money. So many other nicer places in this cute town.
Doesn't deserve the 1 star but couldn't leave our review without it!!!!! There are no words for how horrible our experience was at this diner tonight. Being parents to two babies at the ages of 2 and 1 we know eating out can be tough. To keep our kids satisfied until their meal came we brought their puffs with us, and if you have ever had kids you would know babies tend to make a mess while eating anything. I can honestly say I have never been embarrassed to take my kids anywhere until tonight. The manager, hostess, or whatever she was is disrespectful in everyway. She complained about our children making messes with their puffs, constantly was at our table sweeping and slamming the dust pan down. And god forbid our youngest started to cry she had the nerve to come over complaining about how he's hungry and forced a banana on us. I can honestly say she is the reason we will never be back to that place again. She made us so uncomfortable we ended up getting our food to go and apologized to the only nice person there (our waitress). It's bad when the wait staff was even apologizing for her actions. This place is not family/ baby friendly at all. To top it off food was only mediocre.
We always make it a point to stop here every year after going pumpkin picking or apple picking but this visit was very disappointing. It was very busy this afternoon and it showed in our food service. We ordered a chicken bacon ranch sub, chili cheeseburger and open faced meatloaf. All three of our meals came to us ice cold, our waiter never checked on us, the sub had lettuce on it which was supposed to be omitted and because of how our table was situated I had to sit on an odd angle while people tried to squeeze through, bumping into me each time. I still gave a good tip but eating cold food (especially meat loaf, gravy & mashed potatoes) is not an enjoyable experience.
Went down hill. Ordered the seafood platter and they gave us SALSA and creamy Italian for sauces instead of cocktail or tartar (the seafood platter isn’t cheap either, especially to only get a total of 3 shrimp). The seafood was overcooked. The last couple times we have ordered from there it was bad. Very disappointed. We’ve overlooked things in the past, but this was the last time. Won’t be ordering from there again.
Visited recently and will not return, incredibly overpriced and poor quality food. The worst hot open turkey I've ever had, taste was awful and the price was excessive for what is offered. Would absolutely not recommend, save your money and don't waste your time.
My husband and I ordered out and he ordered a cheeseburger deluxe which I replaced fries with onion rings and then i ordered an Italian panini and replaced my fries with a salad. Got the order home and there was a whole separate thing of onion rings and no salad but salad dressing. I called to complain and the owner said we were not charged for salad anyway. The bill came to $44.05 and the receipt was not broken down. My husband called and wanted to know the breakdown of the bill since it didn’t show in receipt. They charged us for the onion rings and the owner was loud and rude and told my husband it was our fault and hung up on us. We called back twice and he continued to hang up. We usually go here once a week to eat but no longer. The owner was very unprofessional. Could not believe it. Just wanted a refund on the onion rings. Very disappointing. I guess they don’t have to worry about keeping customers and must think that they have enough of them but the owner was out of place.
Poor quality of food processed chicken high prices for low quality of food customer service was not great at all forever to get them back to your table when the food came out it was cold the cheese wasn't even melted just very bad experience here for people and it was over $100 it was just absolutely disgusting I wouldn't be upset as long as the food actually tasted good but my kids wouldn't even eat it.
The worse experience in a diner setting. The waiter was continuing to rush us out. Did not smile, did not listen to what we needed. Had to ask for everything straws, napkins, water had to stop other waiters for help getting what was needed. Prices for diner food was awful. Was charging extra even though it was minor for nothing. Was not told ahead of time. I understand prices have gone up everywhere. Being on a fixed income believe me I am well aware of this. The other diner in red hook is soooo much better, service prices and over all. I will not be returning to this place of business. What happened to businesses being polite to customers I guess they forget we are all just people trying to get by and enjoying an evening out with a friend.
My parents are regulars at Red Hook Diner. Today, my mother came in to pick up an order and spoke with the owner, Carla. My mother asked for the order, in English, and Carla refused to speak with her and called over a Spanish speaking employee to interpret. When my mother tried telling Carla that she spoke English, Carla refused to speak to her and told her “I’m not going to speak to you.” Carla, maybe you need a lesson on microgressions or some anti-racism training, because this is absolutely unacceptable behavior, especially in 2024. Shame on you for embarrassing and hurting a loyal customer because you couldn’t be bothered to deal with her. Ignorant and hateful people like you represent everything that’s wrong with this country. Like I said, my parents are regulars at Red Hook Diner, but we will never eat here again. Maybe that’s a good thing, considering the food is mediocre at best.
Good service, atmosphere OK, but I got served raw chicken
The food has been and is spectacular, this is a one star review because of the way the food is prepared to go. I ordered a cheeseburger with french fries on the side, who the heck wants to pick french fries off the top of the cheese on the burger. The fries are ARE A SIDE ORDER, NOT TO BE THROWN ONTOP of the burger. Furthermore, stop cheapening out on the ketchup packets. Years ago, the supplies were adequate and the orders to go had presentation. If the cook just took a few more seconds when preparing the order, the visual presentation would be spectacular matching the taste of the food. Serve the proved properly or I won’t be coming there no more
I placed an order for pick up. A short time later, I went in to get my food & pay for my meal. The owner "accidentally" short changed me by $20! When I pointed it out, he became angry, made a scene but he reluctantly gave me my money. He continued rambling, blaming me for the mistake! When I told him he should be apologizing, he became even louder! Bad & unscrupulous practices! -Count your change!
Terrible service. Dirty tables. Host on thanksgiving was telling people you maybe get a table. Didn’t tell us a time. Told us he didn’t care. Horrible establishment. Learn some manners and customer service
Skip the tourist trap prices and go somewhere else down the road. Price gouging examples are $18.00 for a western omelette with cheese. $4.00 cup of coffee. There are many good restaurants in either Redhook or Rhinebeck that are better worth your money.
Horrible! I got the taco salad. It had no flavor except salt. My mom got the eggplant sub. Not enough sauce and burned. Our experience was awful. Mom was sick in an hour and I was sick the next day. Never going there again! Don't do it! Also pricy for lunch.
Waitress did not understand English very well. There were 6 people in our party. 1 person asked for a chicken tender wrap and got a chicken caesar wrap dripping in sauce. 1 person asked if the mashed potatoes were made from real potatoes which the waitress said YES…. Those mashed potatoes had never seen a real potato. Another person asked for extra mayo and mustard for his burger and we waited 30 minutes for that. Finally after involving the manager, he got the condiments. The chicken cordon blue was dry and was not good. It was a very bad meal for all 6 of us.
Awful. I had meatloaf sandwich. The "meat" had so many fillers. I made the mistake of looking closing at the meat and I was done. My friend had the cheeseburger... same thing. Gross. The fries were good, Cole slaw was NOT good. Service was slow, but no big deal. The big deal was the mystery meat meatloaf and cheeseburger.
