We had an amazing time at Nello’s for my husband’s 60th birthday! His family has been going tonNello’s for 35 years and since I’ve been a part of the family for me the last 15. They are so accommodating with amazing service and phenomenal food, and the atmosphere is top tier. Never been disappointed at Nello’s! Thank you Jimmy and Alan (who was so on task about our party of 12), who never cease to arrange perfection.
Excellent food/service, and very friendly staff. I appreciate their effort for quality. The lighting and atmosphere was comfy and romantic. Me and my wife spent our three year wedding anniversary here and enjoyed every minute. I even made the mistake of thinking I left my wallet at the table the night before. I came the next day and explained my situation to them. They looked everywhere and noted my phone number. The owner was even there and also made a personal phone call for me to their cleaning service in case it was lost in their tablecloth linens. They did tell me that they do have a solid set up for missing items and it would have ended up there. I later realized I just misplaced my wallet at home. I was really impressed and deeply appreciated all the service they provided. I will definitely come here again. Thank you Nello's!
Perfect for date nights! The atmosphere and staff are exceptional. The sauces are to die for! I could easily eat my weight in the bread and sauces. Best scallops I have ever had and the chocolate cake is for true chocolate lovers. It was SOOO rich (as a date night desert should be)
Very accommodating! We had to change our reservation twice… My husband had beef medallions that were amazing with the best manicotti that I have ever had. I had spaghetti/ ravioli that was also very good. Minestrone soup is one of a kind, traditional. Taylor was our server and he made the evening an event, true professional. Can’t wait to back
I was looking for a nice restaurant to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday and our engagement while in Redding and heard of this place. I have to say I was more than happy with the choice. We ordered a chicken piccata, chicken marsala, and chicken Alfredo with a Caesar salad. Everything was delicious. We were gifted 2 complimentary cheesecakes to celebrate. They were THE BEST cheesecakes I've ever had. 1000% recommend for a romantic evening. And they give you ROSES at the end of your dinner!
I love Nello’s so much it is the best in Redding . And ONLY. I really do not like to put down at all I love you all I just need them to spruce up there veal parmasion ..picture of Marin joes restraunt and the veal is to go. I think I am just spoiled rotten. With Bay Area food. Nellos is the best in Redding .
The reviews on this place are pretty mixed so we went in with no expectations. We had a reservation on a Saturday at 5pm and were sat right away at a 1/2 circle booth. We got the crab cakes and fried raviolis for appetizers. The fried raviolis were just ok but not changing my 5 star rating on the food because everything else was amazing. Our entrees were the Chicken Parmesan and the Veal/Scallop/Scampi house special. Our waitress was great and very knowledgeable. Pretty pricy but well worth it.
What a treat! Staff was ready and anxious to sit and serve us. The special was halibut and it was sooooo delish. The salad, the pasta, the bread all Cooked to perfection. Our young and knowledgeable server helped us choose our wines and they were lively. Service was prompt, the food was hot, and the ambiance was off the hook. So romantic and kickback. Can't wait to go back!
Fantastic food, per person is about $50 but well worth it, you don't have to worry about people in their pajamas dining across from you! Majority of everyone dresses up nice and they play nice music in the atmosphere is pleasant. The lights are kept low and dim for a romantic setting, and the food again is super good but of course a little pricey. Play definitely nice to pay the extra money for a nice evening! The veal and Scampi house special is fantastic, the tortellini pesto is super good, garlic bread and fried ravioli is to die for! And they give you salad as well along with unlimited bread! Drinks are pricey as well but they are not watered down so it's well worth it. For two people with drinks, apps and entrees was roughly $150 buy well.worth it. They even give you complimentary salami cheese olives and pepperoncinis with tuna. We were celebrating our 4 yr anniversary and we will definitely be back next year!
Cozy atmosphere, friendly staff and fine Italian food. We visited on a Wednesday evening and were seated pretty quickly. Our waiter, Guido, took our drink order then came back with some warm Italian bread and a small anti pasta plate. Nice start! We ordered dinner and the Caesar Salad - which the make table side. Very traditional. The salad making was great - the salads large and incredible taste! Classic Caesar dressing made with EVOO, egg yolk and anchovies! Finally our main course (we split a veal parmigiana) which was very tasty. 2 nice veal patties with cheese and delicious marinara sauce, a small side of penne and some crisp tender zucchini slices. We we too stuffed for dessert, but from looking at a few that went by our table - they looked perfect.
I’ve went to Nello’s many times. I have never Been disappointed. The food has always been outstanding, and the service is the best! I took my husband here for his first time, and once again great food & service. He loved it! Pricing is resealable.I had their veal and he had the filet. The cocktails were great, and the sweet Moscato was delicious.
The Place That Sparked It All. This place is the place that got me started on my reviews. 11 years ago. We came back to where it all began. Nello’s helped start the fire—so tonight wasn’t just dinner, it was a full-circle moment. The bread? Soft and crisp. The prosciutto and melon? A little gamey, but good. The chicken piccata was lemony perfection. The alfredo? Creamy, grilled just right—solid 4.5, maybe even 5. Even the salad held its own. The antipasto lost us with tuna juice bleeding across the plate. Wine list wasn’t offered—we had to ask. They didn’t have my wife’s choice, subbed it with Cupcake Moscato, then charged $11 a glass for a $9 bottle. But the service was otherwise tight. Drinks never went dry. Course progression? Elegant. And just when we thought the old-school charm might carry it through… The illusion fell when the check came. Overall not too bad. Might go back may not who knows.
We went as a group and was all our 1st time. I've recommended to guests from out of town and they always loved. So I was very disappointed. The food was ok. It was my 1st time trying the escargot. Not bad. But that sauce was very similar to the sauce on my scampi, veal, and scallops dish. Not to mention, I questioned where my scallops were when they served my dish. The server assured me it was on top of my veal. Ookay... and they apologized to my friend for putting scallops on her dish when she hadn't ordered it. Ours looked similar, though. I was positive my taste buds were off as my "scallops" tasted the same as the veal. Turns out I was right. My friend and I swapped the dishes as no servers came back by before we finally realized. Was a very busy night, and prehaps they were short staffed. That would explain why we waited so long in between for the 2 + hours we were there. They were very warm and friendly when helping just too busy to be there for us. I would give another try just to see if there is better service. But for a 1st time, $100 meal (appetizer, main and dessert ), I was disappointed. I did bring home the tiramasou for my daughter as it's her fav, and she loved it.
I wasn't as impressed with the food as I thought i would be for the price. The bread was cold and wouldn't separate from the loaf, the salad was JUST WET LETTUCE, and the pasta with my chicken (chicken was very good) was overcooked. Service was great but it was crazy loud as there is nothing to buffer the sound at all. Overall mediocre experience and don't plan on returning.
Called to make sure the web page made our reservation and it did not. The guy answering the phone made the reservation for the same time. We were seated right away. Room was dark and we had to use a light to see the menu. Did not order any appetizers as we did not want to be full for dinner. My wife had salad and I had minestrone soup, both were good. Dinner was okay. My wife had Chicken Piccata. When it arrived it was like warm, the sauce was very runny, pasta was very soft and over cooked, and the vegetables were soft as well over cooked. I had the mesquite broiled Salmon. The Salmon was cooked perfectly, it was also like warm and topped with a butter sauce with capers and it was very runny. The pasta was again very soft, and the vegetables were very soft as well. Not worth the 85 dollar we spent. The wisters were very short and not to talkative. Never said anything to us about the daily specials and we had to ask if there was any speicals. We will not be going back.
This restaurant has some major positives and negatives. I've been here three times so far. While the food is decent, the presentation leaves MUCH to be desired (see attached photos). No garnish, nothing notable, just the food slopped onto the plate. The appetizers and bread are far better than the main courses. The dessert is also good, especially the cannoli. The service is excellent here, although the overall atmosphere is in dire need of a bit of a refresh. If you're looking for a "high-end restaurant", I'd say that Nello's is probably not the best option.
Just went on Nov. 28, 2025. I'm a bit of a food snob as I literally enjoy all kinds of foods, have a good pallet, and know what fine dining is. Well let's begin : Pros: the atmosphere is nice, dim lighting for a romantic setting, clean tables, waiters dressed to impress, escargot tasted good/thick yummy sauce. Soup was tasty, mesquite filet 12oz was tasty! Cons: table silverware was dirty upon sitting down, butter for bread ice cold can't spread it - should of been left out 30 minutes before opening to make it soft & spreadable, escargot was luke warm & no garlic/butter bread (should serve it hot on plate should be hot). The odd tuna plate with salami /cheese & olives was out of place and made no sense with our dishes ordered. Does nothing for your pallet before your main course. It was a waste as we didn't eat it. My filet 12oz was brought out not the temp I ordered. I noticed immediately as the waiter put the plate in front of me as you could see the meat wiggle alot! So I cut into it, and it was very very rare! Probably temp was 135. I ordered mine medium well temp 150/155. The waiter was close by and heard me tell my son it was cooked wrong. Waiter looked and immediately said it was way under done. Well he should of checked before bringing it to my table! Positive was he immediately tried to fix it, brought the owner out, and they cooked me a new steak. That one was delicious!! My hot totti was not made right - was Luke warm, no cinnamon stick, no lemon, and very little honey! Bummer. The other plate of spaghetti & meat balls was mediocre, meat balls had very little flavor. The chocolate suicide dessert was amazing. For 2 people it was $127.00. I expected much better tasting food, cleaner silverware, and better execution on cooking temps for this kinda price.
When we showed up 10 minutes early for our reservation we were seated at the bar because they were running late. We were sat in front of about 30 dirty drink glasses sitting at the end of the bar adding up. The bar tender ignored us for a good 20 minutes before finally and rudely coming over and taking our order, only after the couple sitting next to us also said something on our behalf. We had been trying to get his attention for a while at that point. To say the least he was extremely rude and snapped at us for asking for mojitos interrupting that he can't do that pick something else. The drinks we ended up choosing were horrible and not made well. When I asked him for lime he seemed annoyed and literally tossed a small wedge onto a napkin and walked away, like we were bothering him. We sat there for about 35 minutes. Once we were seated, the waiter promptly came over and greeted us. He was great, no complaints on his end or customer service. The bread was burnt that was brought to the table, the food is sub par, I was confused by the mound of tuna and olives on the plate as an appetizer with salami and cheese. The salad is literally cut up romaine with olive oil and Parmesan cheese. The main course we ordered was the seafood pasta for 2 it was very heavy and rich and our sauce was broke. Both of our lobster was very rubbery and over cooked as well. By this time I'd lost my appetite and took nearly the whole dish to go, which they do box up very neatly for you. This is the second time we have been there. My first experience wasn't great either. We spent $165 and I doubt I will ever return. They do give all the ladies a red rose as they leave which is a sweet gesture, it is very dark and moody in there you can barely see across the room. Like I said the waiter was kind prompt professional and ontop of our table. I give his service a 5 star review. Otherwise, I am extremely disappointed about this date night at Nellos.
Well, the service was great. The house wines were good. That’s the positive. The house salad was just lettuce with some dressing but they do offer grated blue cheese, which is nice. The two pasta dishes were very bland. I tried adding pepper and salt and even cut up a pepperoncini from the little antipasto plate but didn’t help. The white sauce was bland and runny. The ravioli red sauce was bland as were the raviolis. We spent $200 for the three of us and the food was really mediocre. Great service though….
The food took over an hour to get to the table. Had to ask for more bread several times as we were all starving. Fettuccine tasted like the worst bland jar sauce ever.!Charged $16 for a little lettuce with oil, vinegar, and blue cheese. Other family had chicken parmigiana, which was rubbery and bland sauce. The vegetables were very undercooked. The eggplant parmigiana was soggy and tasteless. The total bill was $600 and only a couple people were somewhat satisfied with their food. That was the first and LAST time we will eat there!
Loved our experience & food when we ate there a year ago. Took our family there last night for our daughter’s birthday & it was not good! First we were brought our drinks. When we went to take a drink the beer was warm. Called the waiter back over & he said oh sorry our drink fridge quit working earlier today!!! It would’ve been nice to know that before we ordered our drinks! He acted put out that we even asked him about it and said it’s not warm !!! They The saddest looking Appetizer board. Smashed bread. And the salad was plain wilted tossed in nothing but olive oil & blue cheese. Then they brought us manicotti, which had no noodle just ricotta cheese and sauce. We ordered steak. Every steak was undercooked and had no seasoning whatsoever! We were all so disappointed
