Some of the best food, best service, and most reasonable prices in all of Reno. Can't recommend this place enough, come hungry, leave happy and full.
I've been here twice since I don't live in reno, and both times have been great. The food never disappoints, and the service is always great
I had a great experience at Louis’ Basque Corner. The oxtail was absolutely amazing hands down the best I’ve ever had in the U.S. The chicken and rice was also very good, and I really enjoyed the split pea soup, which had great flavor and depth. The ice cream was delicious and a perfect way to end the meal. My only small wish is that the salad had been a bit fresher. Overall, though, the food was comforting and memorable, and I’ll definitely be coming back again.
Was there for a company dinner and first time back in years, and it is still as delicious as ever. I went with the beef stew for my entree, but the top item was the cheesecake. It came with a lemon sauce at the based that pair perfectly. Keep in mind, I am not the biggest fan of cheesecake.
Worth every penny! The wait staff was so friendly and attentive, they offered great suggestions when I wasnt sure what to order. The food was amazing! A 7 course dinner for under $50 (before tip) is a steal! I had so much food left over.
Had a great family style dinner here for a friends birthday with about 16 friends. Great service and food. I ordered the Sirloin but also tried the Sweetbreads and Lamb Chops which were both delicious.
Imagine walking into a restaurant that feels more like a joyful family gathering than a formal dining experience. You’re seated with other guests at a long table, and soon you’re sharing laughter, stories, and, of course, an impressive spread of delicious food. Here, there’s no such thing as a ‘stranger’ – just friends you haven’t met yet. The meal starts with warm bread and butter, a crisp vinegar salad, and a comforting chicken rice dish that’s rich, buttery, and full of flavor from the marinated chicken. The chicken itself is tender and moist, falling right off the bone. Then comes a bowl of hearty soup with rice, carrots, and tender meat, bringing all the flavors of home. For my entrée, I chose the oxtail, and wow! It was something special – cooked to perfection with a balance of lean meat and luscious fat, all bathed in a savory broth that felt like a warm hug in every bite. To top it all off, dessert options were pure indulgence. I went for vanilla ice cream with chocolate drizzle, a simple but satisfying end to the meal. But if you want to go all out, they offer a blueberry cheesecake that’s light, creamy, and layered with a sweet-tart berry sauce that’s like fireworks in your mouth. And all this – every bite, every laugh, every shared smile – comes at the price of your chosen entrée. It’s an incredible deal, and an experience you won’t find anywhere else. This is a must-visit, 100% recommend!
The service was excellent. The person next to us was tapping with their leg up and down. Making the plastic tap the rest of the guest. I asked the bartender if he can move us and He did without question. The rest of the servers were very attentive and on point. The only complaint I had about the food was the soup was a little cold. I really liked the wine and beans. Make sure you try beans and the salad at the same time. It's a basket tradition. I loved the lamb chops and the ribeye I was cooked perfectly. I would recommend ordering the cheese and fruit for dessert. The atmosphere was perfect and I love the family style dining. Thank you for representing the Reno community. Will be coming back often for many years to come.
Had the best time trying new food and a new drink picón. I'm a whiskey girl so this was a nice twist of whiskey in a drink versus my regular whiskey neat go-to. Service by all staff was so amazing. Definitely welcoming. I'll definitely come back to visit thanks aj for taking such good care of us and all the welcoming convo.
How fun is this place!! Family style dining. Long tables, groups sitting together. Plenty of food. Be prepared. When you sit down the food and wine will just start coming. The leg of lamb was spot on and so was the ribeye. We will be back!
The very few times I've been in here reminds me that I just need to keep coming back because for one. The food is superb absolutely and two, you never know who you'll sit next too and tonight was an absolute joy.
Loius' was amazing! The family style dining is so fun and made me miss Europe. I love lamb and this was by far one of the best leg of lambs I've ever had, it was so tender and flavorful. The soup, chicken course, wine, all of it we're amazing. Such great flavors. I'd recommend this to anyone!
Great food! Total surprise! We saw Louis' Basque on food Network and had to try it! The garlic fries were amazing, staff were super friendly, and the choizo burger and French dip were to die for! Definitely a place to eat!!
My favorite place in Reno. Great basque dishes and a nice bar. Don't pass on the lamb burger 😋. The oxtail is amazing but they go fast. The basque dinner is nice but I like eating at the bar. The picon punch is the signature drink of Nevada and it is perfect by the bartenders here. Have one or 2 but not 3.
I had the sweet breads, the wife had the salmon. Ordered a nice big bowl of pinto beans to go with it. All of the food was excellent and the service was top notch.
Attended group dinner. Food was plentiful. Bread/butter. beef barley soup, rice and chicken and basque beans, garlic shrimp, lamb, steak. Everything was tasty. Service was good.
Exceptional sweetbread lunch. Delicate, savory, crispy, very great with the lunch specials. Killer stuff highly recommend
Came here while on a work trip in Reno. The restaurant is family style seating, so being by myself I was placed at a table with people I didn't know. The food was amazing, I had the oxtail stew and HIGHLY reccomend it. The service was great, and the people I met at my table were friendly and made for a wonderful evening. This is definitely added to my list of places to visit anytime I'm in Reno! For any other single travelers, if you're looking for a fun experience with unique food and meeting new people, this is for you!
Nice family style meal. Lots of great food, and the entire place sang happy birthday to my daughter. Good times!
Absolutely amazing, the staff went out of their way to go to the store to get pasta because I’m a vegetarian. The veggie pasta dish they made me was amazing. There were about 15 of us, there was an abundance of food and wine, staff were incredible. Everyone who ate meat were very happy with their dishes.
What an amazing experience. It’s a family style sharing type restaurant. You share beans, rice and chicken, salad and soup but you order your own entree. We had the ox tail and lamb. Everything was amazing. The cheesecake desert was delicious too! Try the pican drink. It’s supposed to be their state drink! If you’re in the area, definitely don’t pass this place up!
Visiting my brother, I chose Louis' Basque Corner as the ad was interesting. We walked in to a neighborhood restaurant and a friendly, welcoming environment. This is a family style restaurant but were too early to enjoy that hospitality. Kimberly asked for our beverage order. Jasmine came over, answered our menu question and took our orders. Then delivered a tureen of soup (remember there were only 2 of us), a huge bowl of salad. Then we were presented with two pieces of baked chicken thigh on rice. (We couldn't eat it and it was boxed for us to take home!) Bro had sweetbreads and said it was the best meal in a very long time. I had the 10 oz. steak with delicious, warm French fries. Moises took away the plates so more could be served. I'm from Oregon and we have Tillamook ice cream, an extra creamy treat. So when a scoop of ice cream was served as dessert, I said it was very similar. Grace, another server, stopped by and confirmed my guess. All in all a delicious meal, in a very friendly environment. We'd come here again if I return. Bro has idea to bring some friends in my absence. Thank you all for the experience and memories.
First of all a very unique fun and entertaining dining experience. Although they only have a handful of items on the menu, the whole course experience was great. The food started coming out and started with a great tasting vegetable soup, I got seconds not knowing what was ahead of us. Then came a salad, beans and chorizo which I thought was weird (super tasty) and chicken a rice. I personally think the chicken and rice was the best past of the entire meal. Then our entrees came out. I got a 10oz top sirloin steak and my gf got a shrimp special. I asked for medium rare and it came out medium well to well. The steak was not great. And I would not get it again. My GF said her shrimp was also not great and she didn’t finish it. The entrees were definitely not the best part of the meal but the overall experience was a 10/10. Next time I would just get the no entree dinner and be satisfied with that. We were out the door for about 120.00 with a picon punch drink each so it’s definitely not cheap. Sitting “family style” was super fun and we had a chance to talk with some really nice people. Would we do it again? Probably not but we would definitely recommend it to anyone.
A must-have experience if you are visiting Reno. The concept is to have a family dining, so they will put you on a table with strangers and you share food and the check. The food was delicious and the staff were so kind.
Very good service!! Come with an appetite!! It's family style so you might be dining with others depending on how big a party you go with. Comes with wine!!
First time here… We sat at the bar, and Michael was AMAZING! He was very knowledgeable about the menu, made great suggestions and served the best drinks! Fantastic experience!
I think I might have just found my new favorite restaurant in Reno. Dining at Louis Basque Corner was an amazing experience. The food was delicious! Fall off the bone meats, savory side dishes and sensational cocktails (highly recommend the peacon punch). For food, you can’t go wrong here but the ox tail and the beans on salad were two of my favorites. In addition to the high quality atmosphere and tasty food, it’s the service that truly separates Louis Basque Corner. Our hostess, Aspen, is a total rockstar. She made us feel extremely welcome and had superb recommendations for us as it was our first time visiting. Mike C, aka Mike the bartender, took great care of us after that and was also top notch. I’m already thinking about my next Reno trip and Louis Basque Corner will be a must stop (and I’ll make a reservation this time).
Was in town for a conference and a friend wanted to eat at a Basque restaurant. This is the place to go! Everything was SO good!!! The experience of eating family style was a new concept for me and it was so fun. The food (every course) was amazing and the staff were fantastic. If I'm ever in Reno again, will definitely go again.
I went here with coworkers for dinner with high expectations, and I was not disappointed. A good time was had by all, and I hope to be back before long!
Fantastic! Food menu is highly diverse and there are always so many great lunch & dinner specials on the chalkboard. Excellent value for delicious Basque / French / Spanish country fare, and always of the highest quality. The GM (Frank) is from Madrid and he reallys adds to the authenticity of this establishment.
I had the ribeye, kinda pricey but worth it! We also tried the ox tail, amazing! Also wine is included with the meal!
Amazing service very friendly, fun, unique experience! I'd go again , an again! If you haven't you should try this place out! A lil expensive but worth it!
My children treated me to my 67th birthday dinner at one of my All Time Favorite Restaurants! I love this food Mecca so much! The potato kale soup was perfection. The salad was fresh and fun. Love the table wine they serve every table. The oxtails are, without doubt, the very best I have ever tasted! But for me, the unquestionable star of the night was their wine and mushroom sweetbreads; simply glorious! They are the closest I have ever tasted to how my Grandmother made them and they transported me to culinary paradise!! The staff is wonderful and don’t miss a trick and the atmosphere is cozy and warm. The steaks my children ordered (rib eye and filet) were superb and cooked to perfection. What a splendid experience!
Everyone has left great reviews, so here are your tips: 1) If you want oxtail, sweetbreads, leg of lamb - the special entrees - make your reservation on the EARLY side. They were out of 4 entrees by 8pm on a Wed night. 2) This is a crowded establishment and NOISEY. Do not expect to have a private conversation. 3) Sitting next to strangers is fun! We shared butter. 4) Your dinner price (with or without entree) includes EVERYTHING: bread, salad, soup, first course (we had the most amazing braised chicken), beans, dessert PLUS one glass of wine. 5) We came in as 2 adults, 2 teens and we were given a carafe of wine (thank you!) And I didnt have to specify that I would like the kids' wine *small#normal wine glasses 6) We ordered the bone in lamb chops and the boneless rib eye as the two entrees to share and we totally took leftovers with us. We were also served almost an entire loaf of bread just for the 4 of us! 7) Amazing experiemce we will be back! I suggest going with at least 4 people. The meat was perfectly cooked - medium rare came out medium rare and the lamb!!!! Excellent quality lamb with no farmhouse taste. 8) try the Picon Punch - its an appertif but works as a digestif as well ;)
Food was fantastic and service was fast and friendly. We went less traditional and ordered salmon which was delightful and filling. Highly recommend getting a side of garlic to put on fries, bread, steak, etc. The cheesecake is worth the money!
Must go Reno restaurant especially if you’re staying downtown. If you’re not a big eater, you’ll definitely be ok with the no entree meal. Oxtail entree special was great at $45. Would recommend for any big group because it makes for a lively and quick meal (and the bill is easier to split). We were in and out under 90 minutes for a group of 12.
Was not prepared for the family style of dining. So be prepared to share dishes and a table with strangers. But the food was excellent and the staff was so attentive. Great place for a large family event!
This place serves up excellent traditional style Basque food. I had the lamb chops and they were excellent. The meal came with delicious sides including soup, rice and chicken, salad, beans, French fries and red wine, along with your choice of dessert. I had cheese and grapes, washed down with a little bit of wine. The sides were outstanding—fries were warm and cut from fresh potatoes. The ambiance was fun—the place was packed. Make sure to call ahead and make a reservation. Service was great.
This place is 100% for the experience and not much else. The appetizer meals were very standard and nothing special. The entrees were a lot better, especially the oxtail and sirloin steak. The staff was friendly and helpful. A great place to come for a family style meal and get-together. Definitely a spot to check out if you are looking for the Basque experience.
Not bad for a five course meal for $45/ person. My wife and I got the shrimp specials which were good, my buddy got the NY strip which was awesome, and the his wife got lamb, which i thought was blah, but I'm not a big fan of lamb. The split pea soup was really good and the 1st course chicken was delicious. The service was fantastic.
Delicious entrees. Too much food - kids got a doggy bag. Foods are served family style at long tables. Refills keep coming of food and wine. Very loud. Staff had to yell to explain how to order. Difficult to chat with my dinner companions. Apparently, the next room (near the restroom) was much quieter than our table in the big room.
Wife and I ordered the no entree dinner for two, which came with bread, soup, salad, braised chicken, fries, dessert, and house red wine. The soup and the chicken were tasty but the rest of the items were average. The service was good and the family style dining was great for meeting and conversing with the other diners at the same table. We lucked out with some nice and interesting people.
It is with a heavy heart that I leave a less than stellar review, 35 years in the making. *sigh* This restaurant in my family pre-dates my existence. We are Basque and the only time I've had Basque food is in the little town my family is from, Markina-Xemein. My aunt had her wedding reception here years ago and its been a regular post in my extended families Reno trips ever since. When I moved to Reno, I immediately became the envy of the family because I'd be close enough to have this delicious cuisine at my whim. Wanting my first time to be special, I waited 6 months until my father was able to make the trip to Reno. I locked in our reservations ahead of time. This is a family style restaurant in the most traditional sense, meaning that you are seated with strangers at the same table where you pass plates of food to one another. Great ambiance, great concept, loved it. The first course featured bread and a brightly flavored vegetable barley soup. My grandmother would have loved this soup! The second course was a tangy dressed simple salad alongside some bacon and leek beans as well as the spanish chicken with rice. The salad was much like the ones that are served at my aunt's house, the beans were so delicious and had such a wonderful depth in flavor. Ill discuss the chicken at the end of this review because I want to solely focus on the positive for now. Stay with me. We were also served some of the best French fries I have ever had! My dad had the rack of lamb which was to die for! The texture was perfect, the rosemary flavor was all through the meat, melted in your mouth. I cannot stress the mouthfeel, it can be really difficult to get lamb right. My fiance and I ordered the ox tails. Another amazing dish worth going back for, we joked about drinking the Bourgeois sauce it was served on. Dessert is optional which we did not indulge in so I have nothing to write about that. The reason I am rating the service two stars is because me and my fiance were served bloody chicken. When I quietly and kindly showed the waitress, the only thing she could ask was if it was ok to take our plates away. ....Uh, you don't need to be culinary trained and serve safe certified, like myself, to know you shouldn't eat off of a plate with raw chicken blood on it. Sorely disappointing in how she handled it though we still tipped a loving $45 in cash. What I would have liked to hear from her was an apology and offering a small discount. But no, she couldn't admit fault, she had no sense of customer satisfaction at all. Instead of going home and ruthlessly posting this review in anger, I reached out to the restaurant via their website hoping to discuss further before I posted photos of the bloody chicken they served us but here goes...after a week with no response... Desperately wanting to fall in love with this place as generations of my family have, I will give this place another shot sometime but we won't be having our wedding reception here.
We recently had a birthday dinner at Louis' with ten family members. Two of us ordered their 22oz ribeye special for $70 each. For that price we assumed we would be getting a Prime cut of beef. Fine marbling with a few larger strips of fat that could easily be trimmed. Instead, we both got cuts that were the worst we've ever been served in a restaurant. Large bands of fat running everywhere and the quality of the trimmed meat was barely satisfactory. I ate less than one quarter of my steak and took the remainder home. A day later I threw it on my grill and finished getting it to medium rare (a warm red center). After letting it stand for several minutes, I attempted to eat it. I've included a photo of the fat that had to be removed. The fat weighed 7 ounces! When you consider that some fraction of the melted fat would drip away and burn in the grill, this means the large trimmed pieces constituted 1/3 of the PRE-COOKED weight of the steak. There were other issues, such as the poor quality of the table wine, but those issues paled next to the steak issue. Also, my other son ordered a steak and didn't get it. That cost was removed from the bill and he instead had to eat their chicken and rice side dish. We will NEVER eat there again. It is not a value.
I should have asked the price of the special before ordering. Got a ribeye steak. It was definitely not worth $75. Yes, I said SEVENTY FIVE dollars.
For what we paid as a large party, the entrées should be sent out correctly. We were in a group of 20 and never received the steak we were supposed to share. The server mixed it up and assumed someone else at the table was sharing thiers. Everyone else got their entrée except us—we ended up eating only the sides. The sides were just okay. Very disappointing for a restaurant that claims to handle large family-style groups well. The server apologized and made sure it didnt get added to bill, but the mistake shouldn’t have happened.
Good things first! Service - quite attentive and kind. Pincon punch - first sip was a bit much. But after a minute or two (and adding some extra ice), it mellowed and opened allowing flavors to shine. Unique and a must try. Oxtail - slightly over-cooked in my opinion. But that's probably just me being fussy. I think most would enjoy the "fall off the bone" meat. Also, the sauce was wonderful. Great, rich flavor. Chef's kiss. Not so good things.. Wine - complimentary, which is a nice touch. Sadly, it was bad wine. :-/ Over oxidized, probably. But possibly cooked. It didn't smell right and poured an odd color. Flavor was definitely off. Disappointing, but it was free - so can't really complain. Beans - ever wondered what frontier-style beans were like? Yeah, like the ones in the old western movies. That was this. Not sure if that's necessarily a good thing. Fries - unseasoned and basic - likely purchased frozen in a big pack and then, for some reason, left unseasoned. If these are made here, big disappointment. Salad - past it's prime and fairly basic American style. A little off-color. I probably wouldn't have served this to guests, but.. yeah. Bread - basic American. I hope this isn't made here. If it is, another swing and a miss. Rabbit - cooked perfectly but the sauce didn't quite come together. There just wasn't any harmony here. Clean-up efforts - a little on the pushy side. Yeahh.. that's an understatement. Easily the most pushy I've experienced in my life. Efforts oscillated between somewhat annoying and incredibly aggravating. One person in particular - he was way too much. Way too aggressive with trying to move people along. Cheesecake - fruit compote topping was overly sweet and kinda garbagey. It seemed an afterthought. And I humbly suggest offering this as an option instead of serving it as the default. Frankly, the compote ought to come with a warning. I think it ruined the cheesecake 😕 Similarly, the ice cream was good quality. But why smother it in chocolate syrup? Sometimes simple and pure is the way to go.
The meal was pretty terrible. Basic food that may or may not have been cooked on site. The meat was pretty basic and not worth the price. The fries were decent, and we had good service, but I would not recommend this place
For the price of the large party, everything should be precise when sending out entrees, we were a couple in a large party who didn't receive our steaks. Everyone else got theirs, we just had the sides all night. What a shame for a restaurant that serves nicely family style to large groups.
Would not come back, but not because of the restaurant's eccentricities. I will address the eccentricities in the next paragraph and my review in the following paragraph. It is a family style restaurant so you will share another table and food with neighbors who you don't know at your table. They may also eat most of the food that is supposed to be shared. Depending on who you're sitting with you may need to eat/ask aggressively. You sit across the table if you come with a date so your date may be sitting next to two random people. If you don't like that this restaurant won't be for you. I watched an older couple leave after finding this out. Also they only serve the food in the back so don't get your hopes up if you see empty seats at the front. It is the kind of place that attracts tourists and loyal localists at the bar who feel like they'll fight you if you complain. Personally, I found the restaurant unethical and my entree inedible. I ordered the prime rib. I got prime rib, but a piece that looked mangled and going on well done but I guess it could've passed for medium well. Needless to say it wasn't insta worthy (or appetizing) so I hadn't taken a picture, though I wish I had for reference. I only took a picture of the plate after I was done, you can see not even a hint of red on the plate. The waiter served the steak to me without saying anything though shortly after I heard him mention to a nearby party that the prime rib was going on medium which I thought was a horrible understatement or I was served a horrible piece. To me it felt unethical to know they were serving something that needed a caveat without offering an alternative and even worse the caveat they were offering was somewhere between misleading and false. Had they wanted to offer people well done prime rib, that would be fine in my opinion. There might be someone who likes prime rib well done. Another person at my table ordered the same meal and barely touched his as well. It is the only time I've taken food home in a doggy bag and immediately fed it to the dog in spite of being a very expensive meal.
