Very intimate space, nice and cozy and authentic. The food, of course, is exceptionally delicious. The service is on slow side I guess maybe short on staff.
This place is a hidden GEM! Chef Ryo and his team are incredible. My husband and I sat at the bar and picked some tried and true favorites but also asked the chef to recommend some - everything he made for us was exceptionally fresh and refreshing flavors. Our waitress was lovely as well, honestly can't speak highly enough of this place ❤️
I can’t say enough nice things about Masami. The Iwase family and other stuff are so nice. They make you feel very welcome. The food is top notch. I’ve had some of the best sushi of my life at Masami, and I’ve been to NYC and Japan. Chef Ryo knows his craft, and he knows how to take care of his guests. It’s no wonder many of the diners are regulars who admit they have been coming once a week for years.
This restaurant is one of my absolute favorites. In a city full of overpriced one-piece sushi spots in Uptown and countless all-you-can-eat places run by people who’ve never even been to Japan, this place feels like stepping into a real neighborhood sushi bar in Japan — warm, humble, and sincere. The fish is beautifully aged, the balance between rice and seasoning is spot-on, and the prices are very reasonable. If you’ve ever dreamed of experiencing the kind of authentic local sushi shop that’s disappearing behind conveyor-belt chains, this is the place to visit. It’s a small reminder of what sushi truly means — simple, honest, and made with heart.
I randomly found this place on Google while trying to find a good sushi spot close to where I work. Reviews were great and photos looked amazing so I had to stop by. This ended up being some of the best sushi I've ever had with the food being incredibly fresh. I ended up sitting at the sushi bar and service was excellent. I even ended up having a nice conversation with the person next to me and have a few recs for my next visit! Thank you for the delicious food!
We came at closing time on Saturday, they still sat us. The restaurant was packed, and I can see why. There were 4 chefs and 4 servers. 2 of the chefs were old Japanese men, so I knew the sushi would be legit. Everything was super efficient, and our food came out in a pretty short time. The rolls were good and definitely affordable compared to other places. I'll definitely be coming back. Rank from best to worst. 1. House special #2. This roll was flavorful--not something I expect from a roll, and I love it. 2. Spicy tuna. My go-to for testing out a new sushi place. I typically prefer salmon more than tuna, but this was fresh and well prepared. 3. Salmon. The old faithful. This was comparable to ketsaku. The cut was thick, fresh, and perfect consistency. 4. Yellow tail. I think I maybe Yellow Tail is not for me. 5. Shrimp tempura. Another go-to of mine, but it was too sweet, and there was too much rice.
came here on Super Bowl Sunday! This place was so cute!!!! From the cozy interior decor to the beautiful curated sushi; this place exceeded my expectations. The salmon collar was my favorite with how soft and fatty the meat is. The eggplant was the surprise of the night since I’m not an eggplant eater myself but I tried it & really enjoyed it! Cant wait to go back to try other dishes soon Best causal sushi date night spot!
Affordable, tasty and amazing food. We ordered a sashimi sampler and tempura asparagus which were both great. Then an assortment of all the sushi options they have on special and they were all so tasty. My son (3.5 yr old) had the soba noodles and he ate all of them. Definitely try this place. Service was incredible as well.
Kid friendly: Kid bento available! And include ice cream 🍦 Food is delicious. Server is attentive and friendly. Reservation was booked by Google! The bathroom is clean. Off menu special is available. Price is reasonable. We really enjoyed the Mother’s Day weekend with them.
This is our favorite sushi place for years. Rice was perfect, sushi rolls were bite size, not mushy or super sticky. Unlike many new trendy sushi places where the rolls are giant with not so good rice. This place is authentic judging by the green tea, wasabi, and rice quantities. The tempura was light and crunchy, a must order. Lunch special was very reasonable. The only flaw was that the chicken teriyaki was a bit on the dry side,
03/15/24: stopped by for a quick lunch. I had the chirashi lunch special. The presentation was beautiful and every item delicious and fresh. It also came with miso soup (which was very tasty). The price is about $16 (Including tax) without tip. What a great price especially in this economy and for this quality. I will try to come more often for their other dishes! 😊 Update: I brought my mother at last for dinner on Friday. We sat at the sushi bar and had the sake flight (which was fun to try different types of sake), sashimi appetizer, and the omakase. Everything was super delicious. We told them that we'll eat anything lol. Even the uni was delicious! Both my mother and I don't care for uni regularly but the ones they served was something else. We both said we'd eat that all the time if we knew they tasted that good all the time! There were so many other dishes/sushi that the chef served us that I didn't take pics of. It's not cheap but so worth it. I'll be taking my mother there from now on when we want japanese food! This is a small quaint authentic restaurant that serves awesome sushi! I ordered the Omakase and everything I received was excellent. I'm Japanese so I want to bring my mother here as well so she can experience it.
Hey, this place is great, the fish was fresh and everything was tastee. I'll be back to try more of the menu for certain. Get there EARLY or make a reservation because this place fills up fast. *** Get some new chairs *** There is NO reason for a place with food this good to have cheap mixed match seats from a 1980's buffet restaurant.
So, dinner last night was amazing. Because we had a time limit due to a concert, we made reservations for 5 p.m., when they open on Sundays. It was our first time at Masami Japanese Sushi & Cuisine in Richardson, TX. The atmosphere, while quaint, was welcoming and comfortable. The staff, top notch. Everyone was attentive and had a smile. We were provided a small appetizer of salmon in a spicy onion mayo, lagniappe style, which was quite tasty. (I didn't get a pic) Appetizers included edamame (spicy and plain), tempura asparagus, and pork gyozas. The kids shared a dragon roll, a Louisiana roll, and a tuna tower. Mister enjoyed the soft shell crab and the sashimi appetizer C plate, followed by a darvish roll (I also forgot to take a pic, again) which had scallop, uni, and salmon. I don't do raw fish, so went with an entree of pan-seared pork in a lovely, zingy ginger sauce served with salad, miso soup, and white rice. Finished with an order of their donuts with a trio of dipping sauces... these were very beignet-like in flavor and texture, and were a delight.
Masami is our number one favorite sushi place. It is a family owned authentic Japanese sushi. The service is awesome. It's small and cozy. I choose this place for my birthday dinner every year for just over 10 years, that's how much I love it. We order Omakase and we are always impressed with what we get. It's fresh and expertly made.
Nice spot. It was pretty busy the night I went. They gave a free appetizer/starter when I arrived, which was nice. The sake was a good value. The sushi was a little dry for my taste, but that is just my personal opinion. The rolls were reasonably priced. The people who served me were great. I'd be curious to go back and try something different. Overall, it was a pleasant experience
I really wanted to like this place, because I heard good things and they have a lot of customers. It was disappointing because my husband and I waited 30+ minutes for the chirashi boxes. It was confusing because people around us who got seated afterward also ordered sashimi type dishes and did not have to wait very long. Quality and taste of the fish is good but I would not order the chirashi again if I ever came back. Not worth the $33 and 30+ min wait.
