Soooo delicious. Had the Sicilian and Italian subs, a cookie, and spumoni ice cream for dessert. Subs came out so quick and were SO tasty. Cookie was amazing too. Will definitely be back!

All I can say is WOW! Originally visiting SD for vacation, we stumbled on this lil cute deli. First, we got cannolis and cookies…. AMAZING. Cannoli is creamy and lemony. Cookies were the perfect texture and sweetness. You can tell it was made with absolute passion. We came back 1 more time before going back home to AZ. This time we got a sandwich. Pastrami sub is divine. Definitely will be a staple for future trips to OB. Staff was the most friendliest felt so welcoming. The guy with glasses is the BEST helped us both visits. I came here for a killer sub on a house baked roll and definitely got a perfect sandwich- HOWEVER they quietly have the best square slice in San Diego. Unbelievable pillowy yet crisp dough is a total knockout. I bring visitors here when they come to town now.

Visiting from AZ. Got an Italian sub and personal pepperoni pizza. Absolutely delicious. Highly recommended. There are a few sub shops in OB. Go to this one.

Got the italian before I noticed the version with mortadella instead of pepperoni. Good sandwich, got it cold. Bread was really good. They also have pizzas by the slice and grab and go pastas. I'm going back for the mortadella sandwich.

It's not very often that I find a place that deserves more than 5 starts but this one most certainly does! San Diego has an amazing food scene with tons of places to eat. Hungry Lu's needs to be a must when you're in the OB area of SD. The sammies are top notch with high quality meats and served on the perfect, flakey, bread with a soft center. The pizza was a great value for the price and the cannoli has a refreshing hit of lemon which is made in house. To top it off the employees were very friendly which only made the meal that much better. I can't wait to come back again!

Best place for authentic Italian desserts. Their place has a sign that says something along the lines of “you love us, you just don’t know it yet” and honestly that’s so true. Their cannoli is on point and even though we entered as they were closing they still served us, and even gave us free dessert. They made the cannoli fresh since they ran out. I am very pleased!

This place makes one of the best pastrami sandwiches in San Diego as well as other great subs. Their Italian cookies are incredible!!!! Plus the owner is one the nicest people you’ll ever meet.

First time here and wanted to try classic Update: 6/4/25. Went back and got the Turkey Special. Excellent. Italian sub heated. Not bad, could use more deli meat than veggies, but still good. The cannoli was great and the peanut butter cookie also good. Cool little vibe in OB with exception of the local drunks, transients, homeless talking trash and making a scene. Service polite and friendly.

My hubs and I tried this spot for the very first time on a Sunday afternoon. I’ll start by saying parking wasn’t as easy to find since there is only street parking. We were lucky to find parking half a block away. It was nice to walk in the area since it’s a beach community. Seating is only outside with a few more tables that are not in the picture. There are two stools at a table inside in case you don’t want to sit outside. The inside is very small. Probably the size of a bathroom but there is a ramp for wheelchair access. Please see photo. It took about 10 minutes to get our food even though there was no one ahead of us. We ordered the Italian sub. You get an option to have it served hot or cold; we chose hot. Nice we got our sub, it was lukewarm. Not as hot as I would have liked but warm enough. By the time I finished my first sandwich it was cold. The sandwiches come cut into beautifully equal portions all wrapped up nice and tight. We had only two bread options, sesame seed or regular; we chose sesame seed. The outer shell of the bread was lightly crisp and pleasantly flaky. The veggies were very fresh, crispy, and lightly sprinkled with pepper. The meat was warm and flavorful. The sandwich was pleasantly sprinkled with oil adding moisture to each bite. My only recommendation would be to have more yellow peppers. I discovered when I would finally bite into the sandwich with a yellow pepper, I enjoyed it more. bite without the yellow pepper it seemed a little bland. I would ask for extra yellow peppers for that added salt. We also ordered a cannoli. This cannoli was probably one of the best in San Diego. The outer shell was crispy and had the perfect crunch sprinkled with powdered sugar. The cream filling was a perfect cool temperature, well blended with a light taste of lemon. I loved the small chocolate morsels and every bite. We don’t have anything negative to say about their cannolis. Our overall experience was very pleasant. People walking by were very friendly and sometimes we strike a conversation with us. This is a perfect beach spot for that lunch to top off your afternoon. If you are in the area of Ocean Beach, give this place a try.

The sandwiches at hungry Lu's are fantastic and loaded I also tried the pizza but I was not a fan of the crust just a personal preference just not my favorite definitely try the sandwiches service was good and the restaurant looked very clean they do not have tables inside but they do have plenty of tables outside parking is street parking

This place has wonderful service the staff was amazing,my favorite is the meat ball sub ,the the marinara sauce on it was amazing ,also had a small personal pizza, With ham pepperoni, sausage,only thing is don’t have roommates because the ate the rest of my good Meatball sandwich ..

Really good subs and pizza okay prices but I would suggest not eating there and if you do be ready to fight for your food these flies are kamikazes they are many and aggressive also Im in a wheelchair i felt like I needed batmans grappling hook to enter

The bread and the ingredients were fresh however it was lacking flavour even with a sauce on it, but the saddest part, literally no avocado. I find it to be quite expensive compared to other places in town for what it is. Nice people though and convenient location.

Do not expect hello and thank you here. The real problem was with the swarms of aggressive flies at the tables, which absolutely RUIN the experience. This problem could be reduced if the employees cleaned the tables and swept the floor from time to time, instead of talking on their cellphones.
