What a wonderful experience I had speaking with Mary. NAMI, and their entire Team are truly doing amazing work and deserve great praise for their dedication to our mental health. The battle to normalize our and our loved ones struggle wth maintaining a healthy soul and mind is hard- fought, but with people like Mary fighting for us, the battle can be won. Thanks again, Mary, for all you do!

I joined NAMI in 2023 when I was referred to them at the Balboa Crisis Center. And honestly? It was one of the best things that could have happened to me that year. For context, I was a mentally ill homeless woman at the time that I joined NAMI. I had lost my job during COVID and I wound up homeless. After I was brutally assaulted on the street, I wound up at Balboa Crisis Center, where I met Erin, who worked for NAMI. Erin became my peer support specialist. I didn't realize until I left NAMI's peer support program (actually, they ended it, it doesn't even exist anymore) how much having someone like Erin in my life helped me until she was gone. Erin helped me get into a homeless shelter, which made life less difficult (not easy) until I could get myself into an apartment. (You can't get into most homeless shelters in San Diego without a referal. That's how messed up the system is and one reason why so many people live on the street.) During my time living at the shelter, Erin provided support and a listening ear and really made me feel less alone. She was one of many angels I met while transitioning out of homelessness. I'll never forget her. ~Ashley

The staff here have always been professional kind and courteous to me. I personally have never had any issues. Something as simple as missing a sock they tried to replace. The after showers, clothing to the homeless when they take showers. And they even offer snack packs when they have them.

NAMI San Diego is an amazing local organization that is part of an amazing national organization. I have family members that struggle with mental health challenges. NAMI's weekly Family Support Group meetings and the Family to Family series of classes have both been valuable resources. This community of both professionals and others with struggling loved ones has provided tools and ideas for coping, resources for housing and professional care, and so much more. And it doesn't cost a nickel (unless and until you choose to support the group in one or more ways). I can't say enough about the selfless and sincere support that I have received each and every time that I cross paths with NAMI SD. If you struggle with mental illness, or have a family member, friend, colleague, or anyone else in your community that struggles, then this organization can be a resource if you are looking for help and ideas. Good luck to you. If you have read this far into my review, I am guessing that you may be in need of something. Start with a call to the office or get into one of the Family Support Group meetings this week. As I write this in Spring 2021, they are on line and easier than ever to attend.

Their peer support specialist Bibiana has no business teaching. In the class teaching HIPPA they violated my HIPAA sharing my medical information with the whole class through Google drive! When I asked to share my story or more when instead of saying okay I'll let you know, she went on saying oh it's going to be in order of people who turned in homework. When I didn't even say I wanted to share them. Everyone else got to share, besides me and I said in chat I wanted to share and sending emails as well. Being lectured about stuff that other students do, but only I am talked to about it. Such as making sure I do reactions before the class even goes back to talking about class. Through like I mentioned others are not told the same thing when they go to class and do the thing. Some of the quiz slides are blurry and the teachers don't seem to care even when multiple people are saying something. At times she gives attitude making me feel like an idiot just for asking a question. Directly said in class that disability accommodations are not going to be accepted when it's A.D.A required by law!!! Asking solid questions and twice two different days after I asked a question instead of answering the question, she started by saying that if maybe you shouldn't be a peer support specialist which when others ask vulnerable questions to understand better and be a good peer support specialist, she doesn't do that to anyone else. A lot more people asking why more questions then me and she only comments asking to many questions after me and sometimes we will be talking for 15 minutes and nothing about class as my questions are here and there not a lot. I did report this to the supervisor, but I'm not seeing improvement in her behavior at all. Also three days later when I emailed and chatted multiple times. I have still been the only one not able to to share my story. It's been suggested to me that maybe she doesn't have patience for people who have disabilities! But like I vaguely mentioned in the beginning! If you don't have patience with people who have disabilities! You have no business being a teacher or a peer support specialist. Patience with people especially people who have disabilities, you need to be a teacher of any kind or definitely not a peer support specialist! If you need this training get it somewhere else if you have a choice!!!...<3~A

No help they just pass you around and make things worse. Also, they can't seriously expect people to drive from North County to here or downtown to see them. Ridiculous - get real. And as far as I've experienced they offer low quality services with providers who are very young / inexperienced, with high turn over, incorrectly diagnosis you, and try to over prescribe for life events like abuse that aren't fixed by prescriptions / don't offer holistic approaches like EMDR.
