Opiniones de Aunt Charlies Lounge San Francisco
My first time at Aunt Charlie's and I'm mad at myself for not finding this gem sooner. Came here with two of my dear friends on a Saturday night and everyone from the doorman, to the performers to the bartender were absolutely fantastic. Everyone was having such a great time, we found ourselves cheering with other customers and our neighbors. The drinks were so good and so cheap. I came ill prepared and wanted to get more change to tip the performers and the bartender was super accommodating, took time to count out stacks of singles for me. So sweet. We were also lucky enough to get a history lesson from Donna Personna about the Compton's Cafeteria riot. All in all, I absolutely adore everything and everyone at Aunt Charlie's. I can't wait to come back!
Don't let the address deter you from coming to enjoy an evening show. The lovely ladies are veterans and clearly love what they do. Don't forget your dollar bills so you can show your appreciation of the performers.
Cash only small bar to chat and enjoy some drinks. Long day? Just want to talk? This is a great option. Please don’t expect something fancy or modern, it is a clean nice place to chat
Lord I started my bday celebrations here. Such fun!!! It was early not many people there so we had the run of the bar. Love! Love the neon pink glow.
A time capsule of what gay scene used to be. Chill vibes and fun when there’s drag shows
Best place, best people. Show was amazing, pours were heavy and it’s the most eclectic, fun place you’ll go.
What's to say about Aunt Charlie's, a local legend. Stop in for a drink, it is amazing!

I had the time of my life here. Bring cash or hit the ATM. Drinks are cheap and strong, so tip Jonah please. Enjoys the hot box girls in all their glory. I even lost my wallet here and got it back the next day with all the contents.
I can’t express how much I appreciated my time at Aunt Charlie’s Lounge. A friend recommended it as a safe and welcoming place to grab a drink—and that’s exactly what I found and more. As a cisgender woman walking in solo, I wasn’t sure what to expect. But from the moment I entered, I felt embraced. This space holds something special—deeply rooted in community, creativity, and care. The bartender, who I heard has been there over 30 years, was incredibly kind and grounded, and the beer was very reasonably priced. I had thoughtful, unexpected conversations with several patrons—many of whom are artists. We talked about art, community, and museums, and I genuinely felt like I was connecting with people in an authentic way. One lovely person I met even invited me to a future museum outing, and I left full of gratitude (and hugs!).
The place is small, so if you are going for a drag show, you better get there at least 30mins early. Nevertheless, our waitress (hostess) was not only polite, welcoming, but very friendly. The place is small, yet you can see equal places in NYC with less accommodation and service with less quality so this place reserves more. I loved the atmosphere, the staff and the customer service. It was fun, we enjoyed the music, the performances, but we felt our server and service was amazing! We will come back! We surely recommend it!
I seriously love this place. Talented drag performers, nice strong drinks, and non-pretentious customers. What more could you want? Joe is a great bartender, and Olivia is a sweetheart.
Great laid back gay dive bar offers a come as you are vibe. Seems to be a few reviews about the quality of the staff and yeah that would be true, but I think the cheap drinks are the compensation haha.
It was a good dive bar. We sat right in front. The bartender was cool. And there was a lovely and lively group of gay guys. I went on a Monday and it was fun but they closed at 11pm. Which is good. The neighborhood was so sketchy. It is the tenderloin. But just go about your business and nobody gets hurt.
It was just the sort of down to earth place I had been looking for. They have an assortment of domestic bottled beer for $5, as well as liquor, etc. Met several nice and friendly people the first time I was there, and I was only there an hour or so.
Aunt Charlie's is great! We're from out of state, but everyone present was so friendly and gregarious towards us that we immediately felt right at home. We were also very, very fortunate to swing by just in time for a charity drag show raising funds for the ACLU Drag Defense Fund, which was an amazing cause and wound up with us spending more money here than anywhere else during our trip! 😂 It's a very cozy vibe, and both the staff and regulars go far out of their way to make sure everyone feels safe and welcome. At one point a very sweet woman named Faun came by to check in on us and to assure us this was a safe place and that they wouldn't tolerating us being made to feel otherwise. An absolutely wonderful experience, one which will definitely be a motivator to come back to the bay area as soon as we can!
Visited on a Saturday afternoon. The bartender and all the patrons were very friendly. Had some brief chats with a few of the regulars. Drinks are super cheap. Cash only, but they have an ATM. Really enjoyed our brief visit - will absolutely be back.

Went to the Hot Boxx Girls show on Friday night and fell in love with this historic spot! My friend and I were immediately welcomed by both patrons and bar staff. Drinks were strong and cheap. I will definitely be back any time I'm in town.
Cheap drinks. Performers with lots of experience! But make a reservation. Cash only! We had booked a table in advance, anticipating watching a drag show. The show featured performers with lots of drag experience! It was fun :) The drinks were very cheap as I mentioned.

Walked from my hotel because it was the closest gay bar to me. Walk was easy and lots of police presence. The bar itself feels like a VFW bar and that makes sense as it’s run by a veteran. The guys were naturally friendly and it was super low key. Sounded like a boombox playing eclectic music that many sang along with often. I came on a random Wednesday, early in the evening so no parties or drag queens. I had two very strong, cheap drinks and some great conversations so I wouldn’t say anything bad about the place. It is what it is and I’m not mad about it lol

The hours on Google were wrong and the bartender was very rude, we needed a place to chat and use the restroom and he immediately wanted to kick us out even though they weren't closing for at least 20 minutes. I have never been to a gay bar and felt so unwelcome as a group of queer people.
Wanted to check out this place since seems to be a SF institution. Walked in after walking 25 minutes in the cold and was told I’ve had enough to drink. I thought he was joking at first! Atmosphere was dead anyway, just wanted to support these kind of places but guess not. If you’re not a regularly or bitter don’t bother.
