Great experience all around. The dishes were carefully prepared and well presented. There was not a single dish we did not like. The Tortelli, Sunchoke and Rosemary pasta dish was absolutely exquisite. The staff were very attentive and knowledgeable about the dishes and wine. We felt very well taken care of.
Easily the best pasta I’ve had in the city. Beyond the food, the service and atmosphere are absolutely world-class. A perfect 10/10 experience."
Very kind staff, relaxing atmosphere, and good food. About a 30 minute wait time from 8 pm on a Saturday night for two. Just got the raviolo to share. The rich flavor was absolutely divine!! Not the most physically satiating, given we shared.
What a wonderful restaurant! My server (I think his name was Elijah) was warm and personable and made excellent recommendations. As a solo diner it was meaningful to have a server who was committed to ensuring I had a great dining experience. I had two dishes: the Agnolotti del Plin, which was exceptional, and the Halibut, which was fantastic. The service was relaxed and unpretentious and I appreciated that very much. Thank you so much for a great meal!
This is a long overdue review. I just saw this restaurant mentioned on a food blog. I quickly went to the site and looked at all the images to see if it was the same place where I had one of the most exceptional meals of my life. It was. Newly single, and in town for business, I had no reservation yet was given a solo seat at the bar. I ordered what I remember as rigatoni. It was pasta and a meat sauce, and it was perfect. The quantity, the quality, the flavors, the temperature. If I’m not mistaken, the gentleman behind the bar may have also been the owner or the manager. He made lively conversation and turned what was initially an awkward first meal alone for me into a night to remember. He engaged all the patrons at the bar And had recently returned from a trip to Finland I believe. He invited us all to take a shot of this Finnish Liquor he brought back from his trip. By the end of the meal, It was such an inviting atmosphere, I split a dessert with a gentleman to my right. We had the blueberry pop tart. Light air, fresh and buttery. I left feeling grateful for the welcoming experience, the delicious food, and a great memory. I still talk about this meal and it had to be six or seven years ago.
This is honestly some of the best pasta I’ve ever had. Went for lunch and managed to get seats at the bar without a reservation which felt pretty lucky, since getting a table here isn’t easy. The outdoor seating is super cute. the pastas are absolutely fantastic. Service was excellent, the drinks were lovely, and the fresh salads were great. Definitely recommend this spot for a special celebration or any fancy treat-yourself meal!
We dined at Cotogna last Saturday and were truly impressed by every aspect of the experience. From the moment we sat down, the service was attentive and knowledgeable, especially when it came to pairing each dish with the perfect wine.We started with the Parma ham and raw bluefin tuna—both fresh, expertly prepared, and bursting with flavor. The pumpkin & pecorino romano flan was a delightful surprise, offering a unique combination of creamy, savory, and slightly sweet notes. The highlight among the pastas was the Raviolo, a single, large ravioli that was rich and satisfying. For the main course, we shared an enormous Florentine steak, which was perfectly cooked and incredibly tender. Each course was paired beautifully with wine, enhancing the flavors and making the meal feel like a true celebration. It’s impossible to pick a favorite dish, as everything was fabulous in its own right. Cotogna is a restaurant we’ll be excited to return to and recommend to friends for a memorable dining experience.
Did not plan to fine here and had no reservation. But Cotogna was able to accommodate a table of 1 outside seating. Ordered the 2 antipasti dishes: Bluefin Tuna Crudo, Sformata. Both were excellent. The bluefin crudo was fresh had perfectly balanced in taste & texture. Sformato was a tasty, light, savory flan. Then the meal ended with a delightful Cannoli, which was a perfect combination of the crispy pastry shell and the no-so-sweet creamy filling with chocoate bits and nuts sprinkled on the ends. They are made to order, and i was informed that the cannoli is not an everyday offering on the menu. So if you see it on the menu, order it! Service was impeccable. Friendly and helpful with great suggestions. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Outstanding restaurant - absolutely beautiful inside and out. Service is 10/10! Our server even knew five languages and spoke to us in Russian, haha. The dishes and the way everything was presented were also a 10/10. We ordered: - Mezze Maniche con Lamb Sugo - Raviolo di Ricotta - Marsala Panna Cotta with Hazelnut & Bartlett Pear - Spritz alla Pesca Everything was delicious and beautifully served. P.S. The only thing I’d recommend improving is doubling the portion size of the Raviolo di Ricotta dish, lol!
Cotogna is an absolute gem in San Francisco’s dining scene, a perfect balance of warmth, sophistication, and unforgettable flavor. Every dish we tried was a masterpiece, both in presentation and taste. The prosciutto puff pastry was the perfect start, light, flaky, and beautifully balanced with the savory richness of the prosciutto. Then came the raviolo, which was pure heaven on a plate, delicate pasta filled with creamy perfection and that luscious egg yolk center that makes every bite feel indulgent. The agnolotti pasta was another standout, with perfectly al dente pasta and a filling so flavorful and comforting it almost defies description. And the lamb pasta, wow. The depth of flavor, the tenderness of the lamb, and the subtle herbs made it one of the most memorable pasta dishes I’ve ever had. Cotogna doesn’t just serve food, it creates an experience. The service was warm and professional, the atmosphere cozy yet refined, and every bite reminded us why this restaurant is so beloved. If you love Italian cuisine done with heart, precision, and creativity, Cotogna is a must-visit.
What an amazing place! Three of us had a beautiful lunch. We’ve traveled extensively in Italy and wanted to visit while vacationing. Great Choice! Service knew the menu, was helpful, friendly and professional and attentive. We had two different unique salads and both were delicious. I enjoyed my decadent ravioli / ricotta w brown butter and egg yolk center. I very much enjoyed my panna cotta with hazel nuts also. You owe it to yourselves to try Cotogna. Highly recommended.
Wow, this place surprised me. The ambiance, the service and the food were amazing! We ordered the squid appetizer, the raviolo (giant ravioli), and the agnolotti. Both the squid and the agnolotti had amazing flavor and almost tasted like it was Asian inspired. My wife loved the raviolo, she really like the sweet and saltyness of it. I can't wait to come back here!
Kim kardashian was right to say this is her favorite Italian in San Francisco. The tuna crudo, such a simple dish, had so many layers of flavour and textures. Sweetness of the melon, crunchiness of cucumber and pepper and the softness almost melt in your mouth quality of tuna… the corn traingoli, a summer special, should stay on the menu forever. Buttery creamy and slightly sweet, I can’t think of a better flavour profile. The corn topping was also fresh and sweet. The agnolotti was al dente and each one was flavourful not bland at all. The star of the show was the raviolo: the way the yolk oozed into the ricotta and butter. Perfect amount of saltiness and creaminess with the eggy yolk, it was just beautiful.
In the Financial District, near Chinatown, you'll find Cotogna, a small restaurant with a long and beautifully landscaped sidewalk portico. Cotogna is the sister restaurant of 3-Michelin star Quince next door. (Quince is "Cotogna" in Italian.) We came for lunch on a weekday. The service was unusually friendly and professional, with serious attention to detail. Much of the produce is sourced from their partner farm. We had squid with Calypso beans and calabrian chili, corn triangoli pasta, swordfish, and the aprium & creme fraiche torta for dessert (see photos). Everything was delicious, but the corn pasta was close to life-changing. The torta was light and luscious. This was a wonderful afternoon.
My family came up to SF for Father’s Day weekend, and we had a wonderful dining experience at Cotogna! First, the restaurant is gorgeous and there is so much attention paid to the details. We sat outdoors and there were heaters and blankets to keep everyone cozy. The staff was super friendly and made great menu recommendations, and the food was excellent! This was my second time visiting and it did not disappoint. The corn agnolotti is a must have.
Been wanting to come here since my last visit to SF and made a reservation for 230p. It was still very busy at that time but service was great. We tried a few appetizers and the arancini was phenomenal. Tried 4 pastas in total. With two coming out at a time for pacing. Much appreciated. I’d been dreaming of the agnolotti as it’s been consistent on their menu and one of my favorite filled pasta shapes/ types. But was blown away that the hands down best dish was the tortelli. Don’t skip it. Wish we had more people with us in order to try more things.
Excellent culinary experience. Every dish was packed with flavor, perfectly balanced, and simply delicious. The ravioli was the highlight of the night and the dessert closed things off perfectly. My only wish is that the portions were a bit larger, if you’re only ordering pasta, I’d recommend getting at least two plates to feel satisfied or add another dish, like their pizza, which i didn’t get to try. Overall, amazing food and desserts.
The food was absolutely delicious! We ordered the calzone and beetroot salad, both of which were excellent. For dessert, we tried a few options, and they turned out to be just as delightful. As a dessert spot, it was impressive. While the prices might be higher than some Italian restaurants in North Beach, the quality of service and ambiance make it worth it. We sat outside, where it was peaceful and clean. The place gets quite busy, so be sure to make a reservation!

Really enjoyed Cotogna. The lamb ragu pasta was excellent, rich, comforting, and perfectly cooked. Paired it with a rosé sparkling wine that was just spot on. Great atmosphere and very good Italian food overall. Definitely a place I’d come back to when in San Francisco.
Had lunch at Cotogna and ordered gelato for dessert. For the main course, we had the Agnolotti del plin and the tortilla with sunshine and rosemary—both were amazing and full of flavor. The ambience was great and the restaurant felt kid-friendly, which was a plus. However, the service was not satisfactory for the price point. Everything took a long time, from placing the order to receiving the food, and even getting the check took about 10 minutes. If you have ample time and don’t mind waiting, the food and atmosphere are excellent—but be prepared for slow service.
Pro tip: Sit at the bar facing the hearth — it’s hands-down the best seat in the house. Watching the line work feels like dinner and a show. The standout dish was the local, seasonal sand dabs — cooked to perfection. Bravo to the kitchen team. Another unexpected highlight? The tiny house rolls. I usually avoid carbs, but the chef (not to be confused with the head chef/owner) personally encouraged me to try them. I’m glad I did — they’re clearly a staple for a reason. Don’t skip them. Service-wise, the real stars were the folks running the line. One in particular stood out: a young African-American woman who briefly took charge during my visit. She had total command of the team and interacted with guests — including me — with warmth and professionalism. A rising star, no doubt. Coffee service also deserves a mention — an excellent Americano that wrapped the meal beautifully. Why not five stars? A few things. The front-of-house team felt a bit aggressive and not quite as polished as the kitchen staff. Not rude — just not operating at the same exceptional level. Same goes for the $22 cucumber salad — nicely plated and refreshing, but it didn’t quite justify the price tag. Everything else on the menu felt worth it. This one left me scratching my head. Overall: beautiful ambiance, top-tier kitchen talent, and memorable dishes. I’d absolutely return — and I suspect regulars may experience even better service over time.

Very mediocre food. Tried four dishes and everything was between meh to ok. The suppli was dry and served room temperature (the cheese in one of them had hardened and the whole chunk fell out when I took a bite). The tuna crudo was fine but nothing to write home about. The raviolo was ok but the pasta sheet felt dry at the edges, and the swordfish was so fishy that I could smell it as it was coming towards me and overly salty. Overall, I personally found the taste to be simple (not in a good way) and flat, and couldn’t taste much beyond salt and butter, and missing attention to details. At $158 for four dishes plus a glass of wine (before tips) this was definitely one of my disappointing meals of late. I usually don’t write reviews of places I didn’t enjoy but was pretty taken aback since this place is so well recommended. Maybe I ordered all the wrong dishes?
My friend and I met for lunch at Cotogna, which was the first time I had been there. I had high expectations, given the reviews and raves by other friends, which unfortunately Cotogna failed to meet. We shared a salad of lettuces, and it was just okay. The butter lettuce leaves were butter lettuce, there was a bit of what looked like baby arugula, and a light dressing of oil and vinegar. Some parts of the salad were overly salty. My friend and I both ordered the swordfish, and it was... tough. The fish was cut in cubes, which were grilled, resulting in dry and somewhat flavorless meat. The vegetables were decent but could not make up for the swordfish. I had a cup of decaf coffee at the end, which I would peg as Starbucks quality. The decor is nice and restrained, but the dining hall is quite packed and lacks soft surfaces to absorb the noise, which resulted in a loud cacaphony. Overall: meh.
