Opiniones de Sextant Coffee Roasters San Francisco
As a Melbourne local I have very high expectations for coffee, and coming into America, I was definitely nervous! When I Googled coffee shops close to my hotel, Sextant came up and I was not disappointed. On my way out for a drive I stopped by for a cold brew and Morning Bun which were both delicious (thank god). A really nice selection of kombuchas and other cold drinks as well. Cute warehouse-y location and was nice and quiet given 9am on a Sunday!
One of the best coffee roasters and coffee shops in the SoMa area of SF. They have not just good coffee, but GREAT coffee here! It’s a lovely space inside and out, with a nice quiet garden area out the back with a few tables and benches. Staff are friendly and helpful. There’s a good selection of coffees and other merch, which is well designed and reasonably priced.
Sextant Coffee Roasters has been serving San Francisco for 14 years and continues to deliver some of the best coffee in the city. Their Connoisseur roast from Tolima, Colombia has bright notes of lime, apple, and honeyed cocoa with a smooth finish. The owner, originally from Ethiopia, is kind and knows exactly what he is doing. They have three locations across San Francisco, and for the freshest roast, it is best to visit on Wednesday afternoon or Thursday when new batches are ready. A great spot for anyone who truly appreciates good coffee.
I found the staff friendly+professional and the drip/batch brew coffee to be very good for the money. I also had the vegan oatmeal+walnut chocolate chip which was tasty. I recommend the place given its amble size for leisure or work, the nice coffee, and non caffeinated selection. The cafe has been running for over 10 years, through tumultuous times in SF, so the fact it’s still here is a sign it’s doing right for its customers.
Really great coffee! I loved the balance flavors of coffee in this place. Coffee is perfectly creamy with right amount of bitterness. Tried their latte, cappuccino and mushroom croissant. Loved them all. If you are in the neighborhood, you need to try this place for sure! Ambience is excellent with indoor and outdoor seating. Friendly staff.
We tried a special drink "Wired Gandhi" which is the chai latte with expresso shot. It was interestingly good. It was a bit too sweet to my taste but the expresso shot absolutely play a part to balance the sweetness out. I love the factory vibe and yet relaxing atmosphere of this coffee place. Would love to come back to try other coffee drinks as well.
Come here and get the Wired Gandhi (dirty chai) because it is to die for! We love that this coffee shop is dog-friendly and has WiFi and tables for working. The baristas are always so friendly and sometimes give Calli treats! We’ve tried an almond croissant, peanut butter chocolate cookie, and a blueberry scone (my favorite of the three being the scone) and they were all ok but nothing to write home about. Will definitely be coming back here again and again!! Highly recommend
Super cute cafe, friendly staff and good cappuccino. Although it's not my ultimate favourite coffee in SF it's pretty good. (Everyone has different tastes so it's never comparing apples to apples) Coffee well made and milk was steamed well for a cappuccino.
Amazing, light-soaked interior - brick walls and wooden ceiling. You sit next to the roasting machine. Very friendly staff. Delicious coffee. An inspiring founder story (see their website). Ample space to sit and strong wifi, so this feels like a good place to get some work done. Note that there are no power outlets though. For breakfast, they have some pastries but not otherwise much food selection.
Tried a mocha along with an almond croissant it tasted good. They have a nice selection of pastries! The ambience is perfect for a quick catch up with a friend, to work, or to unwind with a book! The outdoor area is great! There's street parking available.
This was always my favorite hidden SOMA gem, and after getting to know the owner Kinani, it is now my go-to spot for beans in the city as well. He's a passionate first generation Ethiopian who truly knows his stuff, if you want to geek out on 🫘. Other pluses: big beautiful space that always smells like coffee (they roast on site,) a relatively quiet back patio (for SOMA), and my favorite perk: a free trip coffee when you buy a bag of beans ;) Wishing Kinani all the best
I loved this cafe ❤️ I like trying different versions of Chai Latte everywhere I go and theirs was spicy and sweet enough to satisfy my craving 😋 My friend tried their croissant...I'm sure it had spinach inside but it looked incredible 😋 I recommend this place!
One of the best espressos I've had in the City and probably anywhere, actually. I had the Maiden Voyage Yirgacheffe, which was rich and unique with its heavy berry and floral notes. I also bought the Black Lion to take home and turns out I like it even more. Definitely give this place a try if you enjoy coffee and want to spoil yourself with something different.
Serving coffee the traditional way, no Starbucks sizes and types here. The blueberry muffin is as actually the best I’ve ever had. The owner is nice, and welcoming. Favorite place to relax and have coffee in SF
I love coming here in the mornings, their team is genuine and kind and the coffee is great. I love the calm interior and sweet patio too. Lots of healthy snack options, rather than just pastries. But really I come back for the people. The owner always remembers me and makes time to chat
Very nice ambiance, good coffee, vegan cookies, bizarrely amazing bathroom. Also, has a balcony and is great for laptopwork.
Good coffee and a nice brick-lined space to enjoy it. The staff is also friendly and efficient, and the place has a great atmosphere as well as wifi to get a little work done if you need to.
Very nice cafe ambiance. Very good coffee - if you like unflavored lattes, this place will not disappoint you. Good pastries. Friendly and good baristas. Music can get a little loud.
Excellent pour overs, in-house Probat coffee roaster. Cozy atmosphere and fair price for both a cup of coffee and beans!
Coffee was really good, music on point 👌Excellent service. I’ll be back! 🤗
A Truly amazing cup of Ethiopian coffee in such a beautiful environment with some of the most sincere and friendly staff that makes me want to come back every single day with a welcoming and warm environment. I really love calling this place a second home / office
Cozy spot with delicious in house coffee and friendly staff. Wish there is bigger choice of pastries and sweets.
Very cool spot with amazing coffee, fast service, and during Wi-Fi. pretty quiet space, a little dark, but a good place to work. Didn't look for outlets so I don't know about that. I had an Americano and it was flavourful but not aggressive in flavor.
Great coffee, great vibes, sextants are cool too. Some other "highly rated" places nearby only have over roasted coffee or serve everything in single use, which are a hard no for me. Not sextant, though. Tasty medium light roast and reusable dishes.
Solid caffe latte with just the right combination of espresso notes, milk and crema. I love places that roast their own beans and enjoyed viewing the roaster on site while breathing in the rich aromas of roasted coffee beans. Service was average though the barista did share he was a highly satisfied regular patron before taking the job. That’s always a good sign. What makes this establishment special is a secluded courtyard in the back that allows one to bask in the sun while enjoying private space - right in the heart of busy, industrial SoMa district. Chart a course to Sextant and your sails will be filled.
Solid coffee with great gluten free pastries! I recently hosted an event and I bought a large container of coffee. Their service was super fast and they had it ready in 15 min. They have a variety of Asian flavored desserts as well as the usually croissants and cookies. They also have a few gluten free options, I recommend the banana walnut cookie
A bit uncoordinated, but decent coffee. Seems like early in the morning is not the best time for everyone. The menu wasn't completely updated (lots of items were shown to be out of stock when they weren't) and the pourover was missing! Got a drip coffee though, and it was ok. A bit void of flavour minus a sharp acidity. Hopefully the beans I bought will be better.
Went on a Wednesday morning excited to try a coffee shop I haven’t tried before. Not busy at all, was able to find a spot to sit and enjoy my coffee. Service was super friendly and my latte was deeeelish. Atmosphere was meh as it felt kind of cold and not warming. Personally not my favorite vibe, but may suit others. I did like how it was quiet. Otherwise super friendly staff. Not a fan of the kiosks either as you go to coffee shops to interact with the baristas. I really enjoyed the barista that offered to help me instead of me having to use the kiosk. Overall love everything except atmosphere which is why I’m giving it a 2/5. IMO they should get rid of the kiosks.
I ordered a mocha, and loved the chocolate blend with the espresso, it's a mocha that i would go again to have. Service was good overall, i'm not a big fan of ordering on the screen because it lacks the human contact, it's one way for businesses to save money instead of hiring more employees. I could tell the barista was overwhelmed but his mocha was superb. The ambience is great, loved the design and seating, I don't go much to cafe that don't have outlets, i understand the business purpose behind it but I won't be going there again to drink and sit unless i want something on the go. I like sitting in a cafe and be able to plug my laptop and finsih my work
Spacious coffee shop with your standard load out of coffee/espresso drinks. I had the drip coffee, which today was the Connoisseur blend. It was served at perfect drinking temperature (I feel like typically places will serve it hotter than drinkable). Connoisseur - blend from columbian beans. Had sour notes+aftertaste and a bit zesty. Slightest hint of cherry. Did not taste the apple or honey cocoa as suggested in the flavor profile.
Despite the grey exterior, this is a relaxing spot with earthy vibes inside. Great place to sit down and do some work. Good coffee and croissant too.
Such a beautiful day in SF so had to find a café with a patio. Sextant had a great vibe inside. Service was “meh,” but I never take it personally, I just try to radiate kindness no matter what. Through the narrow journey to the back patio, you can check out their beautiful roaster and green coffee bag stacks. But the patio. Def gonna be a place I go back to on a sunny day. This cortado was not my fave, a bit sour on the tongue but fuller bite and body thru and thru. But it had good vibes today, so I’m grateful.
Coffee selection is good. Staff is friendly.
I wanted to try to Wired Gandhi which is espresso & chai but $7.50 plus $1 for oat milk is just too expensive in my opinion. I asked for extra hot and the drink was perfect & yummy but cant justice the price. With tip it is a $10 cup of 12oz coffee. The place is super cute and has plenty tables and there is a patio outside and the best part, the place is super quiet. CC accepted.
First time here. I pass it all the time and always tell myself I need to try it out. Finally, I made an effort to visit. Parking on this busy street wasn't bad with motorcycle. I like the decor. Very clean and efficient looking. Although I'm not a fan of using a touch screen to order. Seems so cold and unfriendly. I totally understand the reasoning. Requires less employees.... generates data.... accounting? The coffee was delicious. The coffee mug was the best I've experienced. Weird but it made a huge difference. I'll come back!
Single shot for $5 is actually heinous…not once have I ever ordered straight espresso and not gotten a double shot. Ridiculous. Coffee is robust, veering on burnt.
I ordered a coffee around 10:45 and they gave it to me lukewarm. For $5 a cup, I expect it to be hot. I'm sure I could have asked for a fresh cup, but I didn't have time to go back to speak to them. I hope this was just an off day because the coffee itself had good flavor.
the vibe was chill, barista had rlly great skin and pretty smile (sat, feb 28, 2026 at 9:15am). the coffee i got was the carmal latte and my friend got the ube latte both cold. carmal latte was creamy and light. ube latte was creamy and mild - but could use a lil more flavor imo. one big problem tho - the lids were shit. kept spilling on our shirts and would fling everywhere, very very very... messy. please look into changing the lids. overall great experience and coffee, lids were the only problem
The café has a nice area atmosphere and very neutral, calming decor.
Decent coffee. Friendly, very busy employees. Abysmal seating and accommodations. Sextant is a nice place to pick up your run-of-the-mill coffee and a good pastry, both marked up to the standard SF gouge, meet your friend, then go elsewhere. Their cafe has backless seating and no available power outlets.
Hard to get good coffee in SF, and this place is no exception. Don't come here if you want light roast delight. Sextant Roasters knows a good deal about coffee, but not the folks who serve the brew here. It was a challenge to get tasting notes. They only offer one medium roast as espresso… and that one turned out to be bitter… Milk alternatives are normally here - but not today. They ran out.. too bad. the backyard is nice though. Overall... Don't bother to come.
I've been looking for a new cafe to go close to where I live. Well this is not the place. First I order a cappuccino for there expecting a real cups, then it's taking a long time, so I go inside and he is making the drink order of the people that were behind me. Great customer service. I hear my order and it's in a togo cup. Guess I won't be coming back here.
They sold me 6 month expired seeped coffee and when I pointed it out they told me that the expiration date was only a suggestion and it was still good. I was really disappointed as I enjoy getting coffee from here but their reaction was unacceptable. If they think this is ok then what else are they doing behind the scenes to cut corners at the expense of the quality. The guy told me that the coffee is actually good for one year and the expiration date is actually a suggestion. Stay away from here if you want quality products.
Ordering from a screen is insulting. Cookies are vegan but the screen doesn't warn you about it. Don't offer larger sizes of coffee.
Coffee wasn’t very good. I ordered a cappuccino which was the same price as a cortado for some mysterious reason. I walked in 15 minutes before they closed and the barista immediately scowls at me and says “we’re about to close you know!” Yes, I did know. I asked if I could still order and was met with multiple snide remarks followed by a “sure”. I should have just left. This oat milk cappuccino was truly terrible and not worth $7. Really disappointed by this experience!
