This place was amazing! We found this place on a Sunday afternoon while strolling Santana Row, and they had plenty of outdoor seating. Their dumpling offerings are international (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai) and their tea selection includes five different types of green or oolong tea, which are served in these cute glass teapots. Our bill for three orders of dumplings and a pot of tea came to a little over $50 including tip. They do state on their menu a 4% surcharge is included to support employee living costs and wages, and their staff was very friendly and professional.
Beautiful decor with a lovely view for people watching on Santana Row. Reasonably priced, and the service was top notch. The server was so careful about my food allergies, and the kitchen made modifications for me. Delicious cocktails. Highly recommend the chicken bao and the potato gyoza!
I’ve had the BBQ Pork Bao here many times, and have been in person twice. The food is incredible, and at a reasonable price for the area. (Bro that bao is so good I swear I think about it all the time when I’m not even in San Jose) 10/10 would recommend
This was my first time eating dim sum. It was delicious. I one of my favorite foods is the seaweed salad. They gave a good sized portion of it. Everything came out hot and obviously freshly made and cooked. The sauces that accompanied each dish complimented them. I ordered hot oolong tea, which was also very good. I enjoyed the atmosphere. The staff were helpful and not pushy. The next time I'm in the area I'll visit here again.
The service here is unmatched! The shrimp & pork siu mai was very juicy and flavorful. I tried 3/4 dessert and all were so good. The chocolate xlb is super rich and should be eaten with a spoon the mango pudding taste like fresh mango and the sesame balls we’re so crispy would definitely come back the people and atmosphere are so special 10/10
I cannot say enough praise about this restaurant! The menu is perfect for selecting so many different items to try-bring a friend to share! I finally tried Bao Buns!!! A-MAZING!!! The restaurant is beautiful - I felt like I was in another city. The outside eating area is great for people watching and enjoying the beautiful San Jose weather - especially beautiful at night!
The atmosphere is relaxed, family friendly, and perfect for a casual drop-in after a day of shopping in Santana Row. The waitstaff are friendly and welcoming - all smiles and attentive check ins. Our party of two was seated a few minutes after arrival. We ordered the seaweed salad, the shrimp toast, the scallion noodles, the Beijing noodles, the chili pork dumplings, and the pho xiaolongbao. The food came out quickly, and as usual, was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. The restaurant is Asian family style, so you’ll most likely have leftovers unless you’re really hungry or have a large enough party to share. The pricing is typical of other restaurants in the Santana Row, but for the variety of food offered, worth it. We left with full tummies. Definitely a go-to spot if you’re up for flavorful and filling Chinese food in the area.
This place is my favorite for casual dumplings. It's also a great place to go with friends. My favorites are the soup dumplings and the bbq pork bao buns. They just came out with a new Hennessy Boba cocktail that is really nice and unique (as seen in the photo). They offer happy hour, too! I got the Tom yum soup dumplings today, and they are delicious as well. Definitely recommend!
Had pork XLB, potstickers, and green beans and they were all excellent. They have three flavors of sweet bao buns and those were pretty good, the taro one didn’t taste like much but I still liked them. Servers were nice :)

Nice ambiance and great place for dumplings at Santana Row. Lots of heated outdoor seating. I've been to the location in thrive city and was excited that they opened a location closer to me in South Bay. Favorite dishes are Seafood Gyoza, Shrimp Ma La Shumai, and Trio Buns. Can be on the pricey end, expect to spend about $30-40 per person.

My service was excellent and the food was unique enough that I loved it and would come again. Everything was served quickly- the pace here is fast. But you won’t feel rushed to order. My server helped me select a few things I would not have ever ordered without consultation- thanks.
Amazing dimsum. Lobster, pork and shrimp siu mai, string beans, dumpling soup and chili pork dumplings- were all fresh, hot, and tasty. Initial service was good. Took some time to get the bill and to go boxes. But generally responsive.
I’m so glad they were opened last Christmas. I’m very grateful for the customer service we got and for all the employees working on Christmas Day. I know it’s Christmas but I really appreciate that there’s one or two restaurants that were open in Santa Row during the holiday. As it was so hard to find an open restaurant. The food was great, the Asian noodle is similar to a Filipino food called pansit but the chicken is crispy and has other vegetable ingredients. The spring rolls were delicious. We also ordered some chicken but forgot to take picture. However, the food and service were excellent to me. So 5 stars overall. Thanks again for your service during the holiday.
So friend of mine took me to this place to have lunch. It was my the first time coming to this restaurant, and I have to say that I enjoyed it. The xaolongbao was delicious and the ribs reminded me of old school, chinese barbecue pork. it's like a very similar seasoning on the rib. The food came out pretty quickly.Although the ribs did take a little while. Cost wise.It is a little more expensive.Then some of the other good dumpling places that i've been to. The service was quick and attentive, and the food was delicious. It is definitely better if you're not in a rush.
We came here on off hours (3pm) and chose the unique dishes. It tasted great. I read other people's reviews and they did not have the same experience, which makes me think the quality isn't as good during rush hours. For our appetizer, we got the crispy sesame tofu squares. It was legit crispy on the outside and silky on the inside. I had to stop myself from eating it all before the other dishes came. I love spicy wontons, and the chili pork dumplings did not disappoint. The flavor was fresh. You could actually taste the pork. Sometimes at traditional restaurants, the flavors blur together, but you could actually taste the pork. I also like the typical pork xiao long bao, and we ordered that too. The pork also tasted great, but it didn't have a lot of soup. I would say this is one of the better XLB I have had. It's not better than Din Tai Fung, but the taste is better than many other restaurants. We also ordered the Beijing noodles. It has a light flavor. It was different as I've never had it before but my least favorite of everything we ordered. I wouldn't order it again. Last but not least, we got the BBQ Pork Bao. They ask if you want it steamed or seared. Get it seared. This was amazing. In usual BBQ buns, there's a lot more bread than filling. In theirs, they have a lot more filling, which is what I want to see! The searing makes the outside a little crispy. I highly recommend this dish! You have to try it. Our server was very friendly, and his shift ended before we were done, and the server that took his place was also very friendly. We didn't order all at once either, and it was easy to order more. They also took dishes and refilled our waters. This place is a little pricier than most that serve similar dishes, but it was fun to try out and get something different.
I dined here on new year day and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. I had steamed barbecue Pork Bao and Chicken Gyoza and they were amazing!!! They are at par with Ding Tai Fung just that there are no super long lines here :). Servers are really friendly and explain dishes pretty well. Plenty indoor and outdoor dining available. Heaters are available for outdoor dining. Tons of people were dining outdoors with their dogs, that was an extra treat to watch :). Location is fantastic and it’s in the middle of beautiful Santana row. Plenty public parking available in the covered garage at under 5 mins walk. I would definitely go back. One of the best dumplings in a long time. Dumpling time!!!!!!

We had the mapo tofu and the popcorn chicken . The mapo tofu was really crispy on the outside and soft tofu on the inside. The sauce it came with was spicy and went very well with the tofu. The popcorn chicken was crispy but I felt it would taste better with a sauce. I had the vegetable dumplings in a garlicky sour soup. For that cold night it brought the warmth. The dumplings had a thick outer covering but the filling was really good . The garlicky sour soup is a must have here. It came closest to the Indian hot and sour soup. For indians looking for hot and sour soup - this is the place. Paired it with the noodles and it was a complete meal 💯 The mango pudding was good too .
I really enjoy coming here for lunch but Friday I had a late lunch and ended up discovering their happy hour. OMG! Yummy. You must try the soup dumpling combo, green beans and the shrimp and pork siu mai!!
I am not sure why this places gets such low average score. I have been here several times, and every time has been great. Food is always good, much better than any Din Tai Fung location in the US. Service have always been decent, and the place is always nice and clean. I don't really have anything negative to say about the place. The prices might be a little high compares to other dumpling place, but this is on Santa Row, so the higher prices is to be expected.
Dumpling Place is a must-visit! The attentive staff, particularly Alberto and his brother Daniel, made our experience even better. The seaweed dishes, bao siomai, and other options were all delicious. Prices during happy hour are a great treat. Sitting on the outside patio, watching people stroll through beautiful Santana Row Square, adds to the ambiance. Quality food and a lovely atmosphere make this spot a standout. Highly recommend!"

The xiao long bao at this place is what I'd call the absolute best of the best! I particularly love the tomyum flavor, it’s my number one favorite, hands down. The cafe also has an outdoor seating area that is quite romantic, I think it’s perfect for a date night or a casual meal with friends. The staff here is very friendly, I bought a cake and asked for a candle to celebrate my friend's birthday, and they were incredibly supportive and helpful. They also offer free water with refills, which is a nice bonus. Will definitely be back!

Love Dumpling Time in Santana Row, but it was Jaylen's and the rest of the servers' phenomenal service that really stood out. He was friendly, attentive, quick, and overall provided excellent service. The rest of the servers were great too, but Jayden was our server so he's the star of this review here. Dumpling Time was smart to have hired him. We will definitely come back, for the delicious food, the amazing atmosphere, and for the service we received here today.

I only ordered a couple of items. So can’t fully judge the food. But the ear mushroom appetizer and veg dumplings were good. They were extremely short staffed though. So staff were doing their best but super short handed.
Fun Dim Sum style restaurant with good menu variety. Dishes are made to be shared but you can order something just for yourself. The beijing noodle dish was average but the chicken goyza and soup dumplings were really really good. Be prepared to ask for extra sauce as they give the bare minimum amount.
Got a hodge podge of items and it was hit and miss. The soup dumplings were just okay but they're served in mini pie tray things that it sticks to a lot. Dumplings, noodles, and other dishes were pretty unremarkable. One of their fried tofu dishes was really good though! Food: 6/10 Service: 6/10 Vibes: 5/10
Not bad but also not super good. We ordered the crispy sesame tofu squares, garlicky green beans, shrimp toast, shrimp har gow, shrimp and pork siu mai, wagyu beef gyoza, and tom yum goong xlb. My favorites out of everything were probably the siu mai and shrimp toast. The shrimp toast isn't really toast, it's you tiao (Chinese donut) with shrimp on top. So if you like you tiao you will probably like this. The green beans and tofu squares were also not bad. The shrimp har gow felt a bit over steamed because it kept falling apart but taste wise it was fine. The tom yum goong xlb also tasted fine flavor wise but the skin texture tasted a bit too mushy which made it less enjoyable for me? Finally the beef gyoza was a weird experience because it didn't really taste like anything? Like it wasn't bad but I felt like I was just eating oily carbs which is ok but I didn't really get much wagyu beef flavor.
Vegan friendly and I’m not talking about amount in options. The crispy tofu was a solid 5/5. Vegan fried rice 4/5, could definitely have more texture with some more broccoli! Service 5/5 Presentation 5/5 Ambiance 4/5, tables were not socially distanced and the decor was kind of weird.
The outdoor seating ambience and its location are the main attractions. The fried rice was flavourful with decent portions. The dumplings, on the other hand, lacked taste and had to be paired with some chilli oil to make them palatable. Service was decent, although the server could’ve checked on our table outside more often to know if we needed more water or cutlery. The server, as is the norm, was friendly…for a reason ($). Not surprising and not unique to this place, so that’s fine. They add a ‘6% living wage’ to the check, which as it says on the menu, does not go to their staff. Weird, but ok, must be the Row vibes. Overall, a one time experience if you’d like to enjoy the atmosphere there with average food.
Lovely little spot for dumplings and Tapas-style sides. 😸 Had outdoor seating, vegetarian options, and even an ingredient list for those of us in the group with food allergies. Our server was friendly and helped track down the ingredients for one of the items not on the list. No problems with our visit, only praise. Would have taken/posted pics of the food but we ate everything! Taking a pic of the seating area instead. 😻 Edit: was giving 5 starts then saw this addition to our bill stating “Living wage 4%”. Assumed that this meant that the servers/staff were making above minimum wage, but when asked, learned that they had NOT seen wages increase since this item had been added. This p!$$ed us off! Our server was great and deserves a wage increase! Gave additional tip to compensate, but this seems like foul play on the proprietor’s side. 👿
Food comes out quick, some dishes were bland, others were juicy and flavorful. I'd order the "Shrimp Toast" and "Shrimp and Pork Siu Mai" again. Had dinner for 10 on a Saturday afternoon. No paper menus, so you'll need to reference the website. Some dishes were hits like "Shrimp Toast" and "Shrimp and Pork Siu Mai" others like "Beijing Noodles" and "South East Fried Rice Noodles" missed the mark for me and were either bland or not rich. If you do make an order I'd recommend 2 dishes max per person. 1 noodle order is enough for 2 people, but I don't recommend the noodle dishes here. I'd only come back with a group, not regularly.
The place is very nice to hang around and eat while chilling. Lots of tables to choose inside or outside. Service is a little slow for them being understaffed, but still I appreciate the hardwork of the servers by keeping their cool and smile and being professional. The food is average for my taste, but very acceptable when it comes to the pricing. Still I will be coming back if I happen to visit Santana Row.👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
It’s nice to have this dining option at a place like Santana Row. Initially, was concerned about the line out the door on a Saturday evening but it ended up moving fast and we were seated promptly. The prices aren’t too bad but you will get a smaller portion of dumplings than you would get at a traditional dim sum restaurant, but remember, you’re at Santana Row. Interior and ambience is really nice, booths are a little tight for big people. Food was overall good, siu mai and char siu bao stood out a little more than the rest.
Dumpling Time is in the middle of the bustling Santana Row, so when it’s nice out, highly recommend sitting at one of their outside tables (which also have heaters for when it gets a little chillier). The wait staff are super friendly and very accommodating. Just note, when it gets busy, things can get a little slower so bring your patience and note that your items will come out as they’re ready. For the food, definitely try all the dumplings (duh). Our favorites were the veggie spring rolls (nice and crispy with a sweet and sour dipping sauce), chicken gyoza (amazingly full and flavorful), pork soup dumplings (a little vinegar goes a long way), and BBQ pork bao (ask for them seared too, trust me). Of course you’ll want some noodles and a side - look no further than the wok-fried green beans (FANTASTIC), but I would say try something other than the Beijing noodles. Once we added the chili crisp to the bowl, it was perfect, but otherwise it needed a flavor boost. Great meal all around. Excited to go back to try even more of the various dumplings.
We were shopping on Santana row and wanted something to eat that a pescatarian and meat eater could both like which we did!!! Great customer service and I appreciated that the waiter saw the error right before placing my order of rice with no egg. He immediately apologized and had the kitchen to remake. The food was good and quick

The bad: service is just okay, we stood around for a few minutes before finally being sat by the bartender as he yelled across the restaurant at us, our water sat empty, and for whatever reason one of the staff (older Hispanic man) thinks it’s okay to move sauce from a plate you’re eating off of. That was a bit ridiculous to me. The pork soup dumpling didn’t have much flavor and I wouldn’t order it again. Now for the good, the rest of the food we ordered was delicious, and had a lot of flavor. The Beijing noodles were cooked well and the flavor was quite good. The garlic string beans was cooked well and had a nice crunch. The cucumber salad had a great sauce it was soaked in and a little kick on the end. The chicken gyoza was tender and fresh, the veggie spring roll was crunchy as could be and both Sauces were delicious as well. The crispy tofu was a delight. The outside had a nice crunch and the inside was soft as a cloud. Will be trying other locations but would come back no questions asked.

Great dim sum options! We walked in as a party of 5 and were seated right away. We shared the pork gyoza, fried rice, cucumber salad, and crispy veggie spring rolls. Everything was good, the fried rice and gyoza being my favorite. Conveniently located in Santana row as well.
Interesting concept but weak execution. The only Asian place that I visit with no hot tea available. The har-kaw was overcooked and not folded right as well. The dessert bao unfortunately deflated when arrived on our table. The wagyu gyoza, pork gyoza and pork XLB were hit the point. Place is trendy and beautifully decored. Indoor, outdoor seatings are available. There's alcohol options if you keen to drink.
Giving 3 stars only because of the 6% living wage sur-charge. It is now becoming ridiculous - you pay 6% living wage sur-charge , 9% tax on top of that, and 18% tip on top of the combined bill. 33% just for taxes and tips. I was under the impression tips are there to compensate for bad pay of the workers. Crazy world we live in It just feels that we are being taken advantage off.
The menu said Mapo Tofu is a must try dish. Wow, it was terrible. Must not try dish. 2 tofus drenched in a non tasty sauce. Also, there is a living wage 6% fee automatically added. Caught me by surprise.
Tips: Put your name down on the wait list and grab yourself a beverage (Boba Guys just opened couple months ago) in the near by stores. Be aware, you need to stay around the area for your name to be called like the old fashioned way 🙃. Food: Sample menu and portions are meant to be for two (three if you barely eat). Our group of four ordered 10 dishes with the total bill of $140 with tips. Starter: Cucumber salad and Sesame Jellyfish salad spicy. Cucumber barely has any flavor, missing salts (or it was freshly made that the sauce didn't marinade the cucumber). Garlicky green beans was standard and taste just like what you would get in a Chinese restaurant. Mala Shrimp Pork SiuMai numbing sensation from the peppercorn was pretty interesting and gave the SiuMai a bit more depth in flavor. The Shrimp Har Gow is what you'd expect the taste and packed with 2 shrimp each. Beijing noodle was just ok; lack of flavor so our group ended up adding alot of their complimentary roasted chili oil to the noodle. The noodle yielded 4 bites in total for each one of us. You can skip this dish (you are welcome 🤗). American Wagyu fried rice, the most costly dish on the menu at $22, was just ok, too. The rice taste better than the Wagyu . Unfortunately the Wagyu came kind of dry despite the pink center which resulted a tough chewey texture. And lastly, Xiao Long Bao, aka XLB or soup dumplings - 6 pieces per order came on an individual aluminum foil cupcake liner. The XLB was probably over steamed which resulted the skin to break apart. We can't pick up the XLB with our chopsticks so we ate our XLB like a jello shot 😎. The XLB filling was also lack of flavor and the texture was soggy. Tom Yum XLB was much better option in terms of taste. Service: Restaurant is still pretty new so the team is getting use to table arrangements. The food runners delivered other table's food to us three times but we were too honest and turn the dishes away😆. Our waitress came check on us a couple of time and refilled our water. Overall service is decent consider how busy the restaurant was. Pros: Menu is all digital format so made it the menu viewing easy. Convenient location and if you are craving for Asian food at Santana Row, this is your spot Overall, we would probably choose another Dumplings place if we were craving for more authentic XLB. They can benefit from a digital wait-list system to make it easier for their staff and allow customers to roam around the area so they are not crowded outside your outdoor seating areas.
For the price you pay, its not worth going here. There's a lot better chinese restaurants that serve better dim sum for half the price. Nice for Instagram, but I can't imagine coming back here again for average tasting dim sum. I would probably come back to try the drinks, since I saw some interesting cocktails. They also have the audacity to set the default tip at 18% for a party of 2. Food: XLB (Xiao Long Bao) Probably the best item on the menu. They give you 6 pieces. The soup inside the dumpling is delightful. There's plenty of meat and dough ratio. Eat it while it's still hot. Tom Yum XLB Not that great compared to the regular. The soup is very light in taste. The outer is made of beet, which makes it purple. You also get 6 pieces. You can skip this and just stick with the original. Shrimp & Pork Siu Mai Taste like any other Chinese siu mai. It's good. The size of the siu Mai is just right. They give you four pieces. Beijing Noodles The Noodles dish is very flavorful. Goes well with other dishes. Make sure to mix well and bring the beef back to the top after mixing. Portion is shareable for 2 people. Wagyu Beef Gyoza Looks gorgeous. Taste mediocre. It lacks flavor for a gyoza. If somebody didn't tell you it was wagyu, you wouldn't even know. This is a hard pass for this dish and I considered it as the worst dish. Condiments: Their Chilli sauce has way too many sesame seed. All I could taste was the sesame seed. Their soy sauce is good. It would be nice if they offer dipping sauce tray instead of a small plate. Ambience: Doed not look like an asian restaurant. Plenty of seats indoors and outdoor. The seats are not that comfortable and the seats don't appear to be attached to the bottom. Becareful if you lean forward. Service: The server was nice. Every so often, he would clear our tables of finished dishes. Other than that, he wasn't very engaging. Didn't even recommend or ask if we have been to the restaurant.
Service was great. We were seated pretty quickly. We got a variety of dishes. My friends liked the Shrimp Toast and the Southeast Fried Noodles. I personally preferred the Beijing Noodles more. Tom Yum XLB was unique, but didn’t taste like tom yum. But I liked the sourness of the dish. We also got their Crispy Sesame Tofu Squares and their Sesame Jellyfish Salad. Both tasted pretty good. I would skip the Pork Gyoza. It was nothing special, probably better if you try their other dishes instead. Overall, not bad. Everything was decent but nothing really stood out that would make me want to go back again.
This really is a weak 3 stars. In complete honestly, for the money you’re paying - it’s not worth the price. We tried a few menu items and there wasn’t anything that I’d want to order again. It’s DECENT, not completely bad but also not worth going out of your way to eat here. The service was good and the food came out quick, but it was seriously lacking in flavor.
Came here on MLK holiday during lunch time and as I expected, the line up was looonng! Thankfully I'm meeting with my cousin there, so we spent chatting for 45 minutes while waiting in the line & felt wasn't too bad (I definitely wouldn't wait if I were dining along with my own family). Immediately after seating down, we ordered Jellyfish salad, Shrimp toast, Beijing noodle, Maine lobster siu mai, Har gaw, Pork XLB, Seafood gyoza, and garlicky green bean (yes... we were starving! Hahaha...). The jellyfish salad & beijing noodle came 5 minutes after the server put down our order check list. Then the siu mai & har gaw were next. The XLB & gyoza took a bit longer and the shrimp toast was the last. We added green bean to our order and it came pretty quick too. The food: - Jellyfish salad: good & has good heat, not fishy - Beijing noodle: the meat sauce was tasty! The noodle had good chew & texture. - Maine lobster siu mai: very delicious but sadly, the portion was small - Har gaw: the skin was thick & shrimp inside was good but nothing special. The green sauce was actually good! Don't forget to dip into it! - Pork XLB: came with red vinegar but the portion was tiny! The soup inside & pork were good but the skin was too thick - decent but nothing special - Seafood gyoza: the skin on one side was crispy. The seafood filling was good but again nothing special about it - Shrimp toast: my favorite among all! The chinese donut was crispy and the shrimp filling was pretty thick and delicious! I wish they warned us about the spicy mayo so my kid can enjoy it too - Green bean: cooked perfectly & still crunchy. The garlic pieces were plenty but not over powering. But again nothing special about it OVERALL: the food was decent. My favorites are shrimp toast, beijing noodle & maine lobster siu mai. However, the portion was rather small for the price. We were all still hungry when we left the restaurant. If you want to snack, this might be perfect restaurant. Side note: I usually not too picky about the service but with the price that we paid & the look of the restaurant, the service was kinda subpar. First, the glasses had fingerprints on them & one of them was wet (like straight from the dishwasher) when we were first seated - I had to ask the server to change the wet one. Another 'incident' was at the end of the meal, one of the bussers try to pick up the empty plate. Since we ordered so much & the table was small, she tried to wiggle the plate to pick it up. The way she pick it up was she pulled the plate 90degree causing the crumbles that were left on the plate to spill all over the table (mind you that we were still eating). So yeah, not sure if we're going to come back to this restaurant.
Food average, and service subpar due to understaffed. Not much service when only 1 waiter managing 9 tables. The busperson doesn’t take orders and didn’t tell the waiter that our table would like to order more food. Ordered: - BBQ pork bao - steamed and pan seared, one of the best dishes we ordered; - pork XLB and TomYum XLB - not much flavor, trending toward sweet than savory, had better ones somewhere else; - shrimp toast - didn’t see any shrimp paste or shrimp, only see the Chinese fried bread with spicy mayo; - lamb dumplings - has a strong lamb gaming taste; - cucumber salad - crispy and spicy, maybe one of the best dishes we ordered; and - southeast fried rice noodles - OK but nothing extraordinary about it. The ambience tries to trendy with a bar serving alcohol and few TV screens having sports and music program on.
Food: the cucumber tasted great! Kind of funny that their appetizer tasted way better than the dumplings but I’d like to recommend other dishes than the xiao long bao. The siumai and spicy dumplings are good but the xiao long bao is just so so. Service: average. Ambiance: cozy and private.

It's unique but would recommend going elsewhere and spending that much on or more Cheung fun, the rice noodle rolls with shrimp. Definitely paying for the ambiance of Santana Row!

There is a reason this restaurant is almost always empty. They have one or two waitress and it takes awhile till they take an order. Then it takes awhile till you get the order. Food is moderate to say the least. There are lot of Oriental places around to eat - go there.
Chinese food as a white 12 year old would make it. The scallion noodles are literally (not "literally" like they're very similar to, no literally as in they are) fettuccine. The gyoza are so sloppily made they more closely resemble pierogi, though despite that it seems they spend much more time dressing up their food than actually trying to make it taste decent. I spent just north of 40 dollars here and I can say with confidence that anyone looking for decent Asian/Chinese/dim sum can easily find better in the surrounding area for half the price if not cheaper.
As a “100% organic” Asian, I have already lowered my standard for this restaurant. I knew the food will not be as good as those good dim sum place but I didn’t know the whole experience would be this bad. 1. Ordering food is complicated They prepared a QR code there but that’s not for ordering the food! You need to scan it to get the menu and wait at least 10 mins before meeting you server the first time. By the way, if you want to order the tea, it’s a kettle per person. We asked about having 2 cups. They say no! So, no sharing. Just be selfish for 1 time. 2. The service only worth 8% for the tip Your server may come and take your order and disappear. And don’t call another server to add some hot water or take your empty plates. They will do that but also giving your a very cool face like saying “your boring customers don’t understand that my service worth at least a million dollars” 3. The food is over priced All I want to say is, for the same price, you can get either more food or better food in Din Tai Fung or Dough Zone Dumpling. The shrimp fried toast is good.
I am convinced that anyone who gives this location more than a 3 has never been to a real Chinese restaurant. The only reason I'm thinking of giving this place 3 stars rather than the 2 it deserves is because I didn't have a largely negative experience, just an overwhelmingly disappointing one. The xiaolongbao I ordered were tiny, deflated, and resembled the frozen ones I can reheat at home. Didn't make sense for a dish presented like that to take so long to come out. I didn't even end up liking the taste. You can't call that a fulfilling dinner, and for $16? I can get the same amount for $10 at my local place in better quality, I'm not even kidding. Everything else that came to the table didn't look like it matched the price at all, and were also in such small portions. The atmosphere and cleanliness of the place is the one thing saving it from a worse score. It's cute and I like the outdoor seating, as well as the location, but the compliments end there. I hate getting heated over something as simple as food, but I hold my soup dumplings to high standards. If a place called Dumpling Time can't even make good dumplings, then why stay in business? I change my mind, it's a 2/5.
We waited on a sunday night to get sat about 20 mins, the host told us it was a 5 minute wait to get a table outside but it was not busy at all… we sat and looked at the menu and no one came to check on us or even give us drinks. My husband made eye contact with the manager and still no service. We ended up leaving. If you like being ignored and waiting for service this is your place.
Service was good, staffs are friendly.....foodwise it's mediocre. The jellyfish has way to much pepper/Sichuan pepper flakes in it so it's all you'll taste and the jelly fish really tough, not the usually good balance of crispy, crunchy and chewyness. It's really salty too. The lobster siu mai, not worth the price, couldn't tell it was lobster, tasted like a mash up of imitation crab meat imo. The xiao long bao skin was thick and the meat was way too fatty and broth was flavorless, just got to DTF for this. Shanghai noodles had no balance of flavors, just flat out salty and had a weird aroma. Nothing special about the pork buns and har cao, can this at any typical dim sum restaurant. Siu mai was soggy, meat too fatty and bland. Everything was brought out at once so if you don't eat it quick enough the fat solidifies. Shrimp toast....I preferred the good old traditional Chinese donut over this, too sweet for me. There's a weird fee they add onto the bill too, never had this at any other restaurant.
The food here is mediocre at best. I got the jellyfish salad, but it was lacking in sauce and in salt. I'm surprised that considering it's from the ocean, it would've been salty. For the dumpling, it was good. It was lacking something again. The drinks are way too strong, and I feel like it wasn't worth it. The service is amazing, tho. They have been extremely helpful and attentive.
Food was awful.. they didn’t taste like authentic dumplings.. they were bready tasting and no flavor. For the price it was honestly super disappointing. We ordered and then 5 mins later our food showed up. It’s good for Instagram photos, but not for eating the food.. I had super high hopes for this place. Dumplings are my fav. Atmosphere was super nice, they had heated lamps outside so it was cozy. Overall would not come back.
This was one of the biggest restaurant rip-offs I have experienced in recent times. I am vegetarian but don't eat eggs. There's literally no dumpling option that is vegetarian and doesn't have scrambled eggs inside. Even the soup had shredded eggs. So I ended up ordering the scallion noodles and the fried rice for just one person. I assumed I'll get two full portions for the price of two main dishes, but take a look at the noodles in the bowl. I could count them on two hands. There was nothing in there except heaps of oil even though I had ordered it with less oil. The fried rice was also bland and boring with just some hard green peas + corn. Including tip, a 6% living wages surcharge and taxes, the bill came out to almost $40 for this absolutely less than desirable food. Go eat somewhere else.

The lamb dumplings had the best presentation (almost looked like a michelin star dish) and probably tasted the best out of all the dishes. They were gamey and brimming w/ filling. Very tasty. The xiao long baos were a big no-no. The dumpling wrapper was thin yes, but the dumplings didn't come out steaming hot and there was barely any soup inside each dumpling. The trio of buns was also an epic fail. The buns were dry and there was barely any filling inside each one. This item felt like the biggest ripoff at all. I don't even know why this was able to go out the kitchen tbh. It looked interesting to us because of how pretty it was on the menu. But the quality was below par. If I'm ever back in Santana Row I'm gonna have to hard pass on this place.

Portions are very small, about half of what is normal. Taste is either too heavy and oily (scallion noodles) or tasteless (xiaolongbao). This is not Chinese food. They try too hard to be upscale and trendy but fails miserably. Definitely not worth what they charge. There's also a hidden fee 6% "living wage" surcharge charge. The only positive is the appearance: presentation, plating, an interior design. The waitress is very slow, not that I blame her. There's only one and she's also the bartender! The manager is loud and lazy. He was on his computer and loudly chatting with his friends. I thought about asking the waitress to ask him to tone it down a bit until he went behind the bar and told the waitress to do something. Maybe help your staff when it gets a bit busy?
This is the most boring and uninspired dim sum place I've ever eaten at. It feels like an overpriced, low quality imitation of the real thing. The food is bland, pricey, and has very small portions. The service is very slow even though there were only 1-2 other parties.
I really wanted to like Dumpling Time, but the experience was frustrating from start to finish. For a place that prides itself on dumplings, they completely missed the mark. The prices are outrageous — $15 for 6 dumplings — and for what? The wrappers are way too thick, dense, and chewy, drowning out whatever filling is inside. Instead of delicate, flavorful dumplings, it felt like biting into lumps of dough. The pork dumplings were especially confusing. They came with random garnishes like fennel, radish, and even grape tomatoes — none of which made any sense flavor-wise. It felt more like a gimmick than thoughtful cooking. The gyoza dumplings were even worse. Again, the wrappers were extremely thick, and the shape didn’t resemble a dumpling at all. They honestly looked and ate more like meatballs than gyoza — completely unappealing. Strangely enough, the side dishes were better than the dumplings, which says a lot about a restaurant literally named “Dumpling Time.” For the price, quality, and lack of authenticity, this place is absolutely not worth it. If you actually enjoy dumplings, look elsewhere.
DO NOT GO HERE. They serve RAW pork. And according to reviews, have done so a few times to other customers. They served us undercooked pork dumplings and we didn’t realize until we already ate a few. The kitchen acknowledged the food was undercooked. Janessa, our server, was not only inconsiderate, rude, and dismissive, they didn’t fully comp our meal after potentially giving us food poisoning. They comped a few items after much back and forth, including tea I ordered that never even arrived. The manager was trying to be sympathetic but we didn’t care for a gift card to return to their business.

I learned that the restaurant has experienced significant chef turnover over the past few years, which seems to have led to frequent menu changes. Unfortunately, the curried noodles and tofu squares—two dishes my friend and I specifically came for—are no longer offered, and the staff was unable to accommodate our request. Our server also struggled with communication and went back and forth with me when I raised a few questions about pricing and mentioned how long it had been since I’d last had the dish. Overall, the experience fell short of expectations. If you’re on Santana Row and looking for great food and solid service, I’d recommend Pizza Antica or the Japanese restaurant below Hotel Valencia (I believe it’s called Ozumo). For a more upscale option, Joeys or Mastro’s are absolutely 🔥

It's gotten worse and lower quality since when it first opened. No wonder the place is half empty at 7pm on a weekend. I gave it another chance because I was craving dim sum but man did I regret coming here. For the high cost, you're getting very average tasting food. I got the pho XLB, and just look at the sad presentation in my photo. Bean sprouts just thrown in there. Looks bad, and not easy to eat with. Not a well thought out presentation. Barely tasted like pho. Quality tasted like the frozen XLB at costco with a hint of pho flavor. My Partner was bold and tried their experimental "almond, mozzarella, shrimp ball". Really?? Almonds? Yes, it tasted as bad as it sounds. The nuts overpowered the shrimp. Texture is weird. It's just not a good combo. All in all the food quality feels tastes cheap & lackluster for $$$ high prices - not worth it. But the WORST thing that brought this down to 1 Star is the added JUNK FEE on the bill. "6% living wage fee"!! Restaurants need to STOP doing this. The high cost of the food should already factor in living wages. Raise menu prices if needed, but do NOT surprise customers with stupid junk fees. Junk fees should be illegal in restaurants. How dare you guys. These fees aren't even counted towards server's tips at the end. Many customers will adjust their tipping to accommodate that fee. Leaving servers with less tips. Very bad practice. The service was abysmal btw. No one came to check on us or bring us the check. The menu was dirty with food particles. Bad experience. Will never come again. I hope this place shuts down so that a better restaurant will take its' place.
