Based on a recommendation from a close friend, who visited last November, I had to try their breakfast. I wasn't disappointed. I enjoyed the Chilaquiles with poached eggs, sliced avocado & chorizo and daughter enjoyed the Brioche French Toast. Both were amazing! Chef Serg has done a fantastic upgrade to the menu. Along with the great service and atmosphere, I highly recommend a visit. I can't wait to return for the dinner menu.
Absolutely love their new lunch menu!! I’ve been twice in one week and it was incredible each time. I asked for the tacos vegetarian (which I’m not a vegetarian) and they were so delicious! I also very much appreciate the options of fresh pressed juices and wellness shots! I also love that the wellness shot was served on ice. The outdoor patio is so nice all year around and I love that they open up all of the windows on the covered patio. My lunch date had the macro bowl with salmon and he loved it, said it was the best lunch. Our new favorite lunch spot in Sonoma County!
Visited on Thanksgiving for breakfast on my way to Russian River trail. Nice food, atmosphere and friendly staff - all greatly enjoyed. Definitely would like to visit again for dinner experience as well. Recommend to walk around their beautiful winery trail.
Came here for brunch today and happy hour last night. How did I not know about this place?? Amazing vineyard views, a mile-long vineyard trail, excellent service, a pool that can be accessed via ResortPass, and more. This might be our new local hangout spot!!
My husband and I went to Happy Hour to celebrate my birthday. It was a bright, sunny day and we sat on the patio, a lovely setting next to the vineyard. I ordered my favorite cocktail, the sidecar, which was perfectly prepared--refreshing and not-too-sweet with a slice of beautiful dried lemon floating on top. My husband had the mussels and fries and I had the pulled pork sliders. Both were delicious and served hot. When the server discovered it was my birthday celebration, she brought me a sampling of the bread pudding dessert (made from the morning's leftover pastries) with a bit of ice cream and a chocolate "Happy Birthday plaque." The service, ambiance and food made this a very special day for both of us.
The absolute BEST martini in Sonoma County!! If you haven't had a martini made by Thomas you are missing out!
Beautiful restaurant with lovely staff. Food was very good but not amazing. Prices are steep but could be the times right now.
Very good first dinner here. The mushroom ravioli smaller portion was rich, savory and delicious. I enjoyed the Beluga lentil patties with spinach. Partner had the oysters. We shared the Caesar salad which they split for us, and he had the sea bass. All very good but the fish was slightly overcooked. Very competent waiter and beautiful ambience. Can't wait to come back next trip into town!
Upscale dining with nice patio views. Pricing is expensive. But the food is delicious. The venison, osso bucco, and ribs were very tender and well prepared. 👌 The cheese cake and chocolate dessert were on point. Our waiter treated us with free brownie bites at the end of our stay also. Really good experience. 🙂 🍷
The food is always magnificent. The wine is always divine. This place has had 4 diamond ratings it seems forever. When I was last staying at Vintners Inn and ate here, it was 4 diamonds then as well, and that was 2009. They use vegetables from the garden outside and in the craft cocktails as well. They are not inexpensive by any means, but they now have a happy hour that is much more reasonable with a $5 wine selection and $2 off cocktails. Don't order the tempura. It was horribly greasy and limp. Do order the fish tacos as they are amazing with perfectly cooked and flavored fish and slaw and handmade tortillas at only $3.50 during happy hour. The oysters are 3 for $6 during happy hour as well, and incredibly fresh and tasty, if not perfectly cleaned. Happy hour on Saturday is even quite long from 3-9, so don't miss out. Three ambience is so amazing and romantic with dark woods and russet tones, big comfy pillows and mood lighting that will make you never want to leave. Its located on a vineyard and olive grove, which lends itself to the mystical romance as the evening turns to night. Just keep in mind the kitchen closes early and the bar by 10. All in all, if you want a treat (and you know you do), you must try John Ash & Co.
Raw and baked oysters were perfect. Ceviche was not my favorite, but the steak tartare got better with each bite. Cocktails were beautiful and well balanced. Scallops with crispy pork belly were arguably the best we've ever had. Chocolate dessert with blackberries paired exceptionally with the 20 year ports we had to finish our meal. Ambiance and service were impeccable. Great spot for a romantic date. Dinner next to open air windows overlooking the garden and vineyards is as good as it gets.
Highly recommended, amazing well done dishes, the steaks was tender and perfect inside out, the service was friendly and quick. Delicious deserts, over all its a 10/10.
We had a delicious dinner at John Ash! Variety of options for whatever you'd like including vegan choices and helpful staff. The cocktail list was a mix of traditional and fun. Everything was fresh and very tasty
Came here for a work lunch with our team. Nice ambiance and service. The food was more affordable than you might think at John Ash. The Macro Bowl salad was fresh and fulfilling. Easy parking and beautiful landscaping outdoors.
We celebrated a dear friend's 60th birthday. We were a large party and service was great. The food was excellent. Had the steak, spinach and mashed potatoes and was cooked perfectly and every bite was scrumptious.
I’ve heard nothing but good things about this restaurant and this hotel. Met some coworkers here and shared several appetizers and a couple bottles of wine. It was a great atmosphere, the food was incredible and the wine list is impressive. LOVE that their drink menu is on an iPad. Can’t wait to learn more about this place and schedule a tour of the entire facility. I’ve heard they have a good happy hour, too. Awesome experience!
This was my first time dinning at John Ash and let me tell you... it was amazing. The food was beautifully prepared my filet was so tender and melted in my mouth. The calamari was the best ive ever had. The service was top notch and such a beautiful atmosphere. Dessert was a beautiful chocolate custard with salted carmel brownie bites. Everything was perfect and reasonably priced. We did not however have any of the cocktails but they all sounded amazing.
Open now during Covid. Nice outdoor seating. Good selection of choices on the menu. Happy hour 3-5.
John Ash is a gorgeous Sonoma County destination and the brunch menu is top tier. Be warned that this treat is only available on weekends. The terrace is a perfect place to see the beautiful vineyards and gardens. Excellent service and a gorgeous view with delicious food. We tried the pork belly Benedict, lemon ricotta pancakes, and brioche French toast. The brioche was crispy on the outside and melty on the inside, the pancakes were fluffy, lemony, and then syrup was the right balance of sweet with herb undertones. The pork belly was crispy and it came with a slightly spicy Chipotle aioli that complimented the egg beautifully. The muffins were buttery and crispy on the edges. There was a bit more arugula than I tend to want on the muffins but I think I'll just ask for less of that next time we go. The machiatto I had was bitter in the best way and the Arnold Palmer was the proper mix of tea and lemonade, not too sweet at all. The service was outstanding - friendly, quick, and welcoming. We will be back soon to try the dinner menu. Last tip, take a walk around the whole estate after eating, it's perfect for a stroll and chatting.
5 people. 1 well behaved dog. 1 kid. Everyone had a good time and good meal. One of us was vegan and had enough tasty food. Staff was very accommodating. Great service. Great atmosphere. After dinner took a nice stroll around the vast vineyard and the beautiful resort. Great place for a special occasion.
Congratulations on all your improvements! My weekend with a friend was fantastic and our dinner at John Ash last week was truly memorable. We enjoyed a plate of gnocchi with truffles that was absolutely spectacular. As always service was impeccable. It was a treat to meet the new chef, who personally came to our table to share details about the remodel and exciting new concepts on the way. I am thrilled for what’s ahead and can’t wait to return next year!
John Ash had been our go to place for many years for fine dining and celebrations, so we went there recently for another big milestone. There were some hiccups with our reservations when we first arrived, and we were actually ready to go elsewhere but then the manager stepped in, made the necessary adjustments, and we ended up having a great experience. Even the main chef came and spoke with us to make sure all was well. Everyone or businesses can make mistakes (it was a miscommunication issue between us and the reservation person); so we really appreciated that they saw that and took care of it. The food was excellent as always. If you are looking for fine dining (white table cloths, nice views, nice table settings), this is your place to go.
We are newbies to the area and decided to dine at John Ash and Co for the set Thanksgiving menu. The ambience inside the restaurant was good, the food delicious and service by Paul appreciated. We also enjoyed cocktails and a great bottle of wine. We will be returning. The patio also looks delightful.
John Ash is a renowned restaurant known for its innovative New American cuisine with a focus on fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The menu is creative and seasonally inspired, offering beautifully presented dishes that balance flavors expertly. The ambiance is elegant yet inviting, making it great for special occasions or upscale dining. Service is attentive and knowledgeable. Overall, John Ash delivers a memorable dining experience with high-quality food and excellent hospitality.
Alan was such an amazing server and really made our Anniversary special. We definitely will be back and we hope to see Alan again! Thank you so much for going above and beyond. We felt so taken care of and the night felt perfect. He also helped our friends deliver us a special wine and did so with such enthusiasm we felt so special. Also a big shout out to Andres, he was so attentive and sweet.
Monica was our server and was fantastic. She was attentive, gave good recommendations and moved iut table when a neighboring table got too loud. The food was outstanding and potion sizes were perfect. We will definitely be back.
Food was great but the highlight of the trip was meeting Oliver. An incredible young man, Local to the area and went above and beyond to ensure that our experience was top notch. Truly hope this establishment values what an incredible and hospitable employee they have. With a background in HR, it’s great to see a younger generation with personable and work ethic skills that he has.
Stayed in the bar/lounge which as you would guess there is a lot going on. It was comfortable and the wait staff was great making sure everyone was taken care of. The food was excellent! The tacos outstanding and the bite size potatoes very good.
An 11 out of a 10!!! Absolute Perfection in every aspect…..the food, the service, the presentation and atmosphere. We e dined here many times before the reboot, but this time was amazing, And Steve our server could not have been better. We’ll be back soon!
For years, John Ash has been Sonoma County's fine dining standard. We ate there tonight with friends and left feeling totally satisfied. Still one of our best restaurants!!
This exceeded our wildest expectations! Enjoyed the salmon and lamb shank and the service was great and non intrusive. We’ll be back!
I love the ambience and service here. Food is very good but not my-head-is-spinning-cant-wait-to-go-back. Calamari starter good, but accompanying dipping sauce spicy! My friend had shrimp, again very spicy. I just think sometimes chefs try too hard, rather than making the ingredients stand for themselves. Bar is super cool, and bartender Matt B. Made me a great gin martinis.
Beautiful restaurant was beautiful view, the waitress here was very friendly. She had a beautiful smile that can light up your day. Food wise, They are just up to your expectations. But I feel like my expectation towards food are getting higher and higher lately, so don’t quote me on that. It’s totally worth a trip to just enjoy your dinner under the beautiful sun.
Beautiful restaurant and location. Great for a romantic dinner. Food was high quality and made with care. Nothing wowed us though. The cheese cake was actually terrible but I ate it anyway. Cocktails were amazing. Service was very good. Price is a bit high. This was first time here for us. We would and likely will go back at some point but it won't be a must visit spot for us. 4 stars is primarily for the quality of food and service and atmosphere and not for how amazing the food tasted as it was only average for us.
The food, while decent, comes at a higher price point. However, the fantastic vibe and crew make it a worthwhile experience, earning this place a solid four stars.
Our server was fine, food was good. For me the issue is the lack of training for the host desk. We specifically asked for dining room seating on reservation. We were seated on patio. When I pointed out the dining room reservation, I was told this was only a request. No! We dressed for dining room and you should have honored it without me making a fuss. So many excellent restaurants in Sonoma County, I doubt we will return.
My first time here. Beautiful setting, impeccable service. We found many menus choices that we would like to order and chose mussels, home-made brioche, green salad, baked halibut, and pork sugo. Mussels were excellent with a savory sauce, brioche was delicious. We agreed that the dressing for the salad was too sour for our taste. My partner felt the halibut was overcooked. The pork sugo was served in a narrow bowl with mushy pasta swimming in a tomato sauce -- tasty but disappointing. Good wine-by-the-glass selection, mostly California wines. We enjoyed the meal and the ambiance, but expected better for the price.
The restaurant located right next to the vineyard with option of patio seating. The inside ambiance is quite dark and romantic, but outdoor seating is always better( the only negative is if they can have more staff would have made our dinning experience a higher notch). Great selections of appetizers and wines. You can also select chef menu as well.
Nice restaurant, good food and basic service.Carbon chunks over the meat and burnt skin of the beans, didn't make the taste nice and I tried to clean it away off the food with the knife. In addition, I hurt my teeth chewing a tiny piece of bone. 👎👎👎 I ordered a glass of Italian wine, the dining room manager came along carrying the glass of wine, usually in real classy restaurants and when the wine is important as in this case, the wine is served to the client at table with the bottle of wine in hand. The ambience is nice, at the beginning of the evening lights were too dim inside. At all it's a good overrated expensive restaurant.
When Mother's Day brunch costs $125/person, it should include some thoughtful extras-- a second mimosa, perhaps. Instead, we were charged extra for our cappuchinos. So although the food was excellent, $318 for breakfast for 2 with tip is NOT what I consider good value
It was a full 15 minutes before a server came to take our drink order, then it was rush-rush to get us out of there. The drinks were fine, as were the foccacia and Brussels sprouts. The lamb shank over polenta was served barely warm, was very mushy and lacked any flavor.
Fine dining - nope! Fine atmosphere and pricey - yes Food was below par - calamari was soggy, prolly left under the heat lamp. Fine yellow tail - looked like a joke, tasted stale and stringy. Salad - disappointing, drenched in dressing. The food quality was mediocre at best, and that's me being generous. The owners and chef need to look up the phrase 'complex flavors'. Save yourself the money unless you can expense it.
Friends of mine from Los Angeles were in town for the 13K marathon Napa to Sonoma. They are both physicians and very international in their tastes and interests. Without reservation I MADE a reservation for dinner this evening. It was a gross disappointment. John Ash had been inconsistent in times past but for the last few years its reputation was being rewritten one great meal at a time. I am a vegetarian. I will always remember with great fondness a Portobello en croute that was devastatingly good along with other vegetarian offerings as the seasons changed. But with the new menu there was one--ONE--item on the menu that I could have. (Sort of like Henry Ford and the "you can have whatever color you want so long as it's black".) The waitstaff was helpful and suggested that a plate of sides could be done. I also ordered Roasted Cauliflower soup which was much too spicy for me. Ice water was my constant companion. The serving size of the soup was astonishingly small served in a bowl about 5" in diameter and 1" deep. The soup didn't come anywhere near close to the top. Main course came: one of my dining companions ordered fish and the other ordered a mushroom bread which he said was good--and I also noticed that he only ate about 1/3 of it. The presentation of the fish was second rate. My plate of sides was absolutely minimal in serving size and totally unremarkable in its flavors. For the sides there was a small scoop of rice with a very small carafe of a curry veloute to pour over it, mushrooms--a minimal serving, carrots (there were four pieces each about 2" in length) and a very small serving of 6 quartered golden beets. Dessert was a total bust. I ordered an affogato. What did I get for $12.50? One small scoop of vanilla gelato placed in a small iced glass cup with a small expresso carafe on the side. The person who brought it to the table poured the warm expresso over the ice cream all at once. I sat there and watched it melt because no spoon had come with the dessert. I requested a replacement and that a spoon come on the plate and then allow me to pour the expresso on as I wanted. The waitstaff seemed somewhat perturbed at such a request but it was done. It was the sorriest excuse for an affogato that I have ever had bar none. It was barely a cut above Denny's. Seriously. By comparison I had affogato there about 6 months ago and it was stellar. STELLAR. And my coffee that I had requested before dessert came at the same time as dessert, it was lukewarm and reminiscent of Bunn-o-matic quality. No, actually, Bunn-o-matic was better. Over the past couple of years John Ash has been more consistent both in the kitchen and service. Over the past 3-4 years it was a dining experience worth repeating. Something has gone seriously awry with its new invention as John Ash at Vinarosa. What was wrong with Vintner's Inn? As a long time Sonoma County resident I finally adjusted to the name "Vintner's Inn" but Vinarosa has joined the lodging/restaurants that cater to tourists with little concern that maybe we could keep Sonoma County a little more like Sonoma County than another nouveau wine region Napa County knockoff on this side of the hill. For the price paid and lack of food quality, I'm telling my friends to find another solution. This was a very disappointing meal--which also served as an embarrassment since I had unequivocally recommended John Ash. With tip--and I had no wine with dinner--my bill was $62.00.
We visited John Ash for Easter brunch while celebrating our 30th anniversary in Healdsburg. The food was excellent, featuring a wide selection that included a prime rib carving station, a raw bar, a baker's table, a breakfast station, and an array of desserts. The price was $125 per person, which felt a bit high, but the advertised menu promised a mimosa station with sparkling wine, Grand Marnier, St. Germain, as well as fresh juices and fruit. To our surprise, after receiving one complimentary mimosa, we were charged an additional $12 for each subsequent mimosa. Our total bill came to $346.16. After the meal, I contacted the restaurant to request reimbursement for the absence of the mimosa station. They assured me they would look into it, but we never received a follow-up call. While John Ash had a certain quality, the management ultimately diminished that experience for us.
Back in the first weekend in January we made a reservation for dinner as we were staying in the hotel celebrating our 15th anniversary. When it was time for our reservation we were told that our table was not ready and that we needed to wait in the lobby. We were given a drink menu after I asked so that we could order drinks while we wait from the bar. When we tried to order a drink we were told that the menu we had was the wrong menu and we only had a few drinks to choose from. When we were finally seated it was next to a large party tasting wines. We ended up having to wait a very long time to order, then even longer for our food. The large party appeared to be getting significant attention from multiple staff and even what appeared to be a manager of some kind, we did not. After close to an hour past our reservation time our food finally showed up and the presentation was not spectacular. Our overall experience with spa and hotel was great, however our special anniversary dinner was a huge letdown, At least the wine tasting party appeared to have a good experience.
Most of the food was tasteless. The tuna appetizer had no clear flavor. I had the pasta entree and the pasta was overcooked, unsalted, the “pesto” also missed seasoning and the mushrooms in it were tough. My husband got the short rib which was dry but at least tasted good.
Last time I was at John Ash I gave it 5 stars. Unfortunately, our Thanksgiving Dinner, yesterday does not even rate 1 star. Nobody in our party of 7 enjoyed their meal. Our host felt terrible. We were robbed at $155 per plate. If that was the best they can do they should close the doors!!!! So Disappointed 😞
John Ash & Co left a lot to be desired, particularly considering their claim to be a fine dining establishment. I had made a reservation for our anniversary through OpenTable, but when we arrived, we were surprised to find that the main dining room was closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Unfortunately, this critical detail was not mentioned on the OpenTable website or app. Instead, we were seated in what seemed to be the hotel bar. Despite this initial setback, we decided to give it a chance, hoping to experience the excellent dining we had heard about. However, we were disappointed to find that the menu was disappointingly short, limiting our options. Our server was friendly, but when we explained the situation and the importance of our anniversary, we received only a brief apology with an explanation that it could be confusing. We ordered two entrees, an appetizer, and a couple of drinks, but things went further downhill from there. The calamari we ordered was greasy and lacked flavor. The pasta my partner ordered was also bland, and the chicken dish I ordered was served completely raw. It wasn't just slightly undercooked; it was raw. We sent the dish back and asked for it to be removed from the bill. The apology we received was both brief and dismissive. To top off the disappointing evening, the waitress brought over two small truffle chocolates as a gesture to make amends. We had hoped that John Ash & Co would have made more of an effort to rectify the situation while we were on site, but unfortunately, they failed to do so. All in all, I can't recommend John Ash & Co as a fine dining destination. It fell short of our expectations, and it's probably best to save your money and try another restaurant in the area for a more memorable dining experience.
I’m really disappointed with our experience. We came to this high-end restaurant specifically to order steak — it’s literally the reason we chose this place. Our reservations were at 6:15 PM, so it was clearly the beginning of the night, not a late closing rush. After being seated, we waited about 17 minutes before anyone came to our table. When the server finally arrived, we were told they were completely out of steak. For a restaurant that presents itself as upscale and high-end, that’s unacceptable. If something that major is unavailable, guests should be informed before being seated or at least when they sit down — not after almost 20 minutes of waiting. It felt unorganized and honestly a huge letdown. For the price point and reputation, I expected much better communication and service. Unfortunately, we left disappointed and won’t be returning
Went with a group of 7 to Happy Hour which is from 2pm-5pm. I am sorry to say but the food is mediocre in quality and overprized. Just ordinary food, which you can get at every Golf or Fast Food place. Same goes for Happy Hour drinks. Overprized! Will never go back (paid $595/7 people). There is also a mandatory tip of 20% for a group over 6 (did not mind the tip and added some extra, even that service was slow)
