Really creative and delicious menu. I really enjoyed their mushroom dish! The habanero hot sauce is very tasty and complemented most of the items I ordered. The ambience inside is pleasant and in summer the outside under the trees is lovely. I'll definitely be back.
The best casual seafood restaurant ever!!! They have the most crisp and tender fish and chips you’ll ever eat. Hands down the very best and we’ve had great fish and chips in the UK. All locally sourced and sustainable ingredients, the very best that Sonoma County offers. Oh and their soft serve ice cream is <chef’s kiss> the best!
I had a really delicious lunch here. We sat outside in their garden / patio area which was beautiful and tranquil. The seafood soup was really balanced and tasted super fresh. They also have great soft serve ice cream. The root beer float was great, heavy on the ice cream and they used a craft root beer which was a nice touch. The ceviche had as an appetizer was pretty much perfect too.
Handline is my all time favorite Sebastopol restaurant. Big open air windows, friendly staff and delicious food. We generally order fish tacos, which are delicious… You can order them with what they call hippy slaw or their grass fed hamburgers seasoned well and come with fries. Handline’s fries are the best I have ever had… a combination of the quality of potatoes, seasoning and a unique of air fry process that leaves them light and crispy plus 3 dipping sauces. We travel a lot and our first stop coming back is handLine.
Love this place! Amazing food, my favorites are fish tacos, raw oysters, and fries. Love the outside area to hang out and they always have good drinks on tap. Don't forget the clover soft serve ice cream! The food is a bit pricey but worth it, if you can make it during happy hour that's the way to go!
Well, my better half works as a dental hygienist in Sebastopol and from time to time brings home some goodies from Handline. I had to keep having her remind me of the name? I was in disbelief that a restaurant could knock out of the park calamari, mushrooms and tacos. I actually had to look up the menu/website and see what geniuses are running this place. The food is so good, I fear the triple D guy will visit and blow this place up This place is absolutely incredible !!!! My guess is they will expand quickly and be in a town near you. I can’t wait to taste the Burger and Fries
Local gem! Perfect spot for regular times and great happy hour specials on oysters, tacos, more! Incredibly good soup specials. Helpful team, wide BTG wine, beer, more. Great assortment of GF safe options.
The food was absolutely incredible. We got the halibut ceviche, fish tacos, al pastor tacos, and fresh oysters. Everything. Was. Amazing. If you’re wondering if it’s worth leaving the immediate downtown area, it absolutely is. I would’ve posted photos but the food didn’t last that long.
The young waiters were so polite and attentive. The calamari taco was delicious. Great presentation. Ice cream machine is an extra touch. A little hidden. It's hard to see from the street. I will definitely go back.
Outdoor area is lovely. The place is clean and the food is very good- fresh and great options. Got the fish tacos and my husband got the al pastor tacos- both very good. Order at the counter kind of place which is why I say 4 stars there instead of 5. But it does speed things up if you are on a lunch hour. I like that you have the serve yourself water choice of bubbly or flat. Service was great- everyone was very nice.
We stumbled into this place and we were really impressed. Friendly service, cool space. And the happy hour menu was amazing. Oysters were fresh and so delicious. And the fish tacos were some of the best I've had in a while. We couldn't stop talking about how good the food was for days after. And I need to go back for the burger. Looks so good. Highly recommend.
Good, high quality food. I can especially recommend the salads and tacos. Seafood is always very fresh.
Amazing fish tacos. Friendly staff and great vibes. Do it.
This is like your hyper local, artisanal, fast casual restaurant of destiny. Very consistent, delicious, relaxed, and generally a creative comfort food kind of vibe. Been here probably about 100 times over the years. High price high quality. Well, probably well priced is more accurate. The sourcing is as curated as it gets so you are definitely getting your monies worth here. I’m vegetarian and there are solid options here. An excellent veggie burger, some salads, tacos etc. You’ll be fully satisfied. Outstanding drink selection. Very quick service too.
Great food, gorgeous tiered patio seating outside, the best fries I've had in a while... Clearly double dipped (fried twice) little num-nums that were just the right size, not too thin and not too fat! I had a hard time finding my way in the place 🤭 (yikes!) but it was well worth the journey once I did. I also would have liked more service at my table, but that's not really what they do.
First time visiting this fine establishment. I was extremely pleased with the great service provided and the ease of finding such an excellent dining location within my neck of the woods. The food was very fresh and tasty. As a seeker of good eats I'd definitely recommend Handline Coastal California to those seeking out a quality dining experience.
Handline is so nice! I 100% recommend the fish and chips, root beer float, and fish tacos
Rustic ambiance with a great covered outdoor patio. Share a long bench table with others, bring your dog, water and carbonated water on tap!
Favorite restaurant in Sebastopol, one of my favorites in all of Sonoma County. The fries are the best! You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu, but my favorites are the Melrose (veggie burger) and the La Sirena (poached calamari tostada). Also their house salad dressing is delicious. Stellar friendly service always. Save room for a soft serve!
The food was amazing. Staff friendly. It is kid friendly and enjoyed hanging out. Will definitely go back.
Great 1st experience at Handline. Order at the counter. Dishes are delivered (quickly) to the table. At the suggestion of the cashier, I tried an assortment of freshly shucked oysters and the trout burger. And... I was not disappointed! Self serve still and sparkling water on request. A variety of indoor and outdoor (with heat lamps) seating on multiple levels. Perfect place to go with my puppy. Really enjoyed my experience and will be back soon!
Execellent restaurant experience (especially during COVID)! The waitstaff was very friendly and the wait for the food was about 15 minutes (it was decently busy). The outdoor seating was great and the food itself was delicious! The outdoor seating was spacious but comfortable. We sat on the lower level and enjoyed the shade. We also appreciated the 10+ feet of distance between the tables. All waitstaff wore masks and gloves, and diligently wiped down tables between seatings. For dinner, we started with the esquites which was cooked perfectly. For the entreés, we had a burger and the Mi Papa tostadas. The medium burger was tender and juicy, but not too greasy. The tostadas were packed high with toppings, and though I wish there were more beans and less slaw, they were still quite good. We also had a side of fries, which were crispy and had a good selection. For dessert we had the soft serve. It was as expected, creamy and sweet. Overall, I would definitely come here again. Especially with a group of friends or family. The food was very satisfying and the atmosphere was calming.
Celebrated my sister's rehearsal dinner here. The food was absolutely fantastic. The staff was extremely funny and kind and catered to our every need. They have the best tasting root beer ever. My first time trying ceviche and it blew my mind. Every meal had a very wonderful unique taste that couldn't compare to anything I've had before.
Love this place! Beautiful design and outdoor area, service is always great! And if you have an issue one the the managers can always solve it for you 💪🏻 I LOVE their veggie burger and fries- best I ever had and they make it in the house from scratch! Fish tacos are delicious, also the Malibu Pier (salmon/trout burger) and their Happy hour is worth your visit! (Every day from 3-5)
Great fast casual spot with nice outdoor patio. Certainly worth a stop if you're passing through Sebastopol. The al pastor was flavorful and crispy and I enjoyed the homemade corn tortillas. They also have a nice selection of local beers. There is a parking lot, but it is small so keep an eye out for street parking.
The newest New American / Californian inspired restaurant in Sebastopol. Lots of good stuff on the menu here, the oysters were fresh and tasty and the burgers were served up hot. Went with the uni butter oysters as well as the bacon oysters this time and the Melrose and Inglewood burgers with a side of fries. The decor here is really nice with open windows and the back patio lit up at night. Highly recommend this place and will definitely be coming back.
So delicious! I can't wait to go back to eat the roots and shoots salad again.
Handline is one of our favorite places and we’d recommend stopping here to anyone! We had a welcome dinner here the night before our wedding and we couldn’t have been happier with how it turned out. Sam, the owner, created a fantastic, fresh menu and even helped facilitate renting a PA system for speeches. All the servers and staff were super friendly and the food was delicious (although there was a bit of a delay in serving). We’ve also been here several times as normal guests and the food has been top-notch every time. It’s hard to resist burgers, tacos, and the outdoor tables on a nice day.
When my partner and I are tasting our way through wine country, this is our go-to spot for a quick bite. You honestly can’t go wrong with anything on the menu, but we always make a point to grab the fresh, perfectly shucked local oysters and the burger. The vibes are high energy and lively, and the staff is consistently amazing!
Just went for the first time with some friends. Everything was amazing! I love that it is order at the bar so you don’t have to worry about split checks. It’s find your own table and there is a ton of available, both in and outdoor. We ate outside and the staff was nice and helped us get the heater going. The food came out quick and everything was excellent. Fish tacos, the fish, our friends enjoyed their burger and tostada, not to mention the great drinks! I wish I had saved room for ice cream. The only thing that I would say is a negative is the small parking lot. Otherwise everything about our experience was amazing and we’ll be back!
My husband and I often come here to enjoy happy hour. Food is consistently delicious. Sadly, we encountered an onslaught of flies while eating our food inside the restaurant. Unfortunately it made us rush through our meal.
Great music playlist. Variety of Motown hits and other easy listening songs. My husband and I went here for dinner on our weekend away. You order at the counter and they have menus on your right. One is for Happy Hour specials and the other their regular menu. We ordered grilled oysters and they were delicious. I got the Happy Hour fried fish tacos which were also delicious. My husband got a burger and fries. (Delicious) The fries were enough for 2-3 people. The service is good. We sat outside on the patio. They have a lower seating area great for families with children. It is pet friendly too. They have a parking lot but it is fairly small. We got there around 4:30 and had no problem finding a parking spot. Around 5, it got a bit busier. I would recommend this restaurant.
What I really enjoy about this place is the flexibility of their dining – you get to select your own seat, whether you prefer indoors or out. Their commitment to seasonal ingredients means the menu is always fresh and interesting, and I can personally vouch for the Los Cabos and the Mendo; they truly satisfy.
Handline in Sebastopol offers a fantastic vibe with its thoughtful indoor and outdoor design, providing plenty of space to relax and enjoy your meal. It's a welcoming environment, perfect for a casual bite or gathering with friends. You'll appreciate the airy and comfortable setting. Free sparkling water and outdoor dining space are a plus!
The Pier 45 soup with corn tortillas was delicious and the oysters were amazingly fresh! We enjoyed this place very much. The service was also great. A big variety of food, interesting interior like an old storage, with wooden benches and tables and enamelware. Highly recommend it is a great place worth visiting!
New place for me as I took my daughter out to launch. Very nice place with a beautiful outdoor seating. Back spot have two ping pong table to play. The food was really good. La Serina, excellent. El Coronado taco wow. Splash a little or a lot of their home made hot sauce and you have an incredible tasting food. Definitely a place to come and eat, relax. When your done, take a soft cone icream to go.
Great fish tacos, burger and ice cream. Pretty underrated, we always try to stop here whenever possible.
Went for lunch on a cold day in December. The outdoor seating area did not have any heat set up. The indoor area was freezing. Needed to bundle up just to stay comfortable enough to eat. The seating at the smallest tables had a frigid steady breeze that was so cold that several patrons, including ourselves, had to leave in order to not freeze.
Celiac review Campy old foster freeze with great food. Picnic tables. Benches dont move. Order at counter so it’s a little weird. Have to find a table. Then walk to order. Super stars were the pumpkin, French fries (DEDICATED FRYER), and Ceviche. Also liked the Meyer lemon drink. Sparkling and flat water on tap. Self serve. The Meh: Burger was ok. Lettuce wrap no GF bun. Flame grilled, was a little well done/ tough on the outside. Inside was decent. Lettuce was gorgeous. Oysters were good. Lack of normal oyster stuff no horseradish no red sauce. I’d go again it was a great meal. 250 for 6 people. 3 drinks ordered. 2 beers and the lemon thing. Staff was amazingly helpful with my allergies. Thank you for that! Definitely worth going too. We didn’t get Ice cream. But I hear it’s Strauss Soft serve. So probably amazing.
I didn’t think of taking pictures at my visit, I wish I did. This review pertains to the restaurant environment. We arrived at 3 pm. The service and staff pleasant, the outdoor patio surrounded by local plants is spacious and clean. Bench style tables and seating cleverly set up to allow for distancing . There are 2 levels, with plenty of seating and as one reviewer commented ‘Covid safe’ Dogs are allowed in the patio. Ordered the tuna ceviche and seafood soup. The soup tasty with chunks of fish, shrimp clams and mussel. The tuna ceviche was ok. The presentation pretty And looked appetizing, however I thought the crispy corn tortilla overpowered the taste of tuna ceviche. I could taste the cashew and jalapeño, the tuna tasted smooth and mild. This ceviche is much milder than ceviches made with tangy citrus so if you order this one it might taste bland.
It's located in Sebastopol, CA. It is in my words a open air restaurant. Not a fancy place. It was chilly for me being open. Food was good, and so was the service! Not much parking.
Ordered the Pier 45 on a Tuesday for lunch. Then ordered it again the following Friday for lunch. Found it to be good but inconsistent. Pier 45 on Tuesday had a thicker broth, which I liked. The broth on Friday was watery, which was not as good. The ingredients varied but that was understandable. The Tuesday lunch had more fish and the squid was bigger. The broth however should have been consistent for both days.
So took family to eat for early Mother's Day lunch. I had the Roja CA oysters and the Melrose burger (plant based). The oysters were nicely prepared and delicious. Came with a habanero sauce that was just the right spicyness. Burger was good and fresh as well. I discovered they have a happy hour menu 3-5 pm with tons of local options to drink👍. There was plenty of outdoor space to dine. (Kid and pet friendly ) The staff was more then friendly and accommodating. I will recommend to friends and most likely return myself.
Tons of great reviews for a reason! I’ve been here four different times and it never disappoints. Everything is incredibly fresh, clean and delicious. Even their most basic salad had an unrivaled, crisp flair to it. Match that with an always solid mix of beers and ciders and you have a killer place to eat and drink in Sebastopol.
Food was good. We all ordered the fish tacos. I'm just not a big fan of ordering at the counter and waiting for someone to bring your food.
Friday happy hour- super quick friendly service even though the place was hopping. Outdoor patio seating is amazing, you don’t even feel like you’re right on a busy road in the middle of town and is much better than being inside where it’s loud dark and echoey. Big drink selection, food was good but made our stomachs hurt, not sure why.
Handline in Sebastopol is clearly a spot that prioritizes quality and craft. If you are looking for a meal where the flavors truly stand out, this is the place to go. I found the food to be genuinely delicious across the board, and it’s obvious that they aren’t cutting corners when it comes to the ingredients they source. The menu highlights for me were definitely the fish tacos and the sandwiches. The fish was fresh and perfectly prepared, and the sandwiches felt substantial and well-balanced. If you’re a fan of shellfish, the oysters are a must-try; they were incredibly fresh, clean, and served exactly as they should be. It’s the kind of food that makes you want to slow down and enjoy every bite. However, I have to be honest about the cost: it felt a bit expensive. While the quality is high, the price point might feel a little steep depending on what you’re used to for a casual meal in Sebastopol. It is the type of place where the bill adds up quickly, especially if you’re diving into the raw bar or ordering a few rounds of tacos. Overall, if you don’t mind paying a bit of a premium for a "yummy" experience, Hardline is worth the visit. It might not be the most budget-friendly lunch in town, but the excellence of the fish and those oysters makes it a great choice for a treat or a nice afternoon out. You’re paying for quality, and in this case, you can definitely taste it.
You order from a counter and then sit down at your table. We had burgers, which is a la cart, fries are separate and are $7. The burgers were very good, the fries were nice and crispy. I had a dozen oysters which were good, the sauce with the oysters was tangy, but just ok tasting. I also had an oyster sliders. The oyster was fried and delicious but not so good as a slider. I would definitely come here again.
Started off with fresh oysters, sampling all three: Totten (Totten Inlet, WA), Highwater (Homboldt Bay, CA), and Sweetwater (Tomales Bay, CA). Hands down the Sweetwater oysters were my favorite with Totten as the runner up. Next I had the El Coronado Tacos that consisted of beer battered fried rockfish, shaved cabbage, Chipotle aioli, avocado and lime. In my opinion, I feel that there was too much shredded cabbage, which took away from the flavor of the tacos, but they were still pretty tasty. My husband had the Inglewood Burger consisting of 1/3 organic beef, hwy 1 Honduras, lettuce, spicy pickle relish on a toasted bun, minus the thousand island dressing, and there was no complaint. Parking was a little challenging but they had several seating areas.
It was hard to find seating and we had to clean up our own table(we were told someone would wipe it down no one ever did). Their tacos lacked flavor. The habanero sauce, oysters and soft serve were great. Edit: we reheated the kids' fries in our toaster oven and they tasted just as good, they were not greasy like other fries!
Pretty good food, nothing exceptional, but it is a bar, so most people probably won't complain. The outdoor seating area is nice, and the lower terrace has a little obstacle for kids to climb around on. The waitstaff is nice, but the bartender definitely doesn't have a penchant for customer service.
Lovely patio and light filled indoor dinning area. They have a decent variety of fresh beer and wine on tap as well as bottles of both. The Ingelwood burger I ordered could have been more juicy with the primary flavor came from the dressings. I am a beef loving lady and I look for meat foward taste in my burgers. On the other hand the fries were perfectly cooked and while you get a choice of dressing with the fries, the chipotle one hit the spot. One orders at the counter and a server delivers your meal. Staff is friendly and attentive. I look forward to coming back for happy hour, there are two, one late in the afternoon and one before they close with a couple featured beers and wine by glass, oysters and chowder.
Way too expensive for lunch - fries too salty and very small - not worth the cost for just average quality food.
Has gone way downhill. Used to love this place but something has changed. My salad was inedible (soggy lettuce in a pool of dressing; I never send anything back but I did this time), fish tacos were under seasoned, chicken tostada was just terrible. I miss the old Handline.
Giving it a two star because their online and pick up service is terrible. I placed an online order and went in to wait for it. It said it would be ready at 6:35 PM… I’m sitting there waiting for a text telling me my food is ready…by 6:50 pm I’m starving and want to leave so I finally check with the cashier who tells me that I’m supposed to pick up food at the bar… There’s no sign saying that. I go to the bar and the food has been ready for about 12 minutes and it’s already cold. It’s good food but the service is absolutely terrible. Update: finally got home and my burger is cold and raw on the inside…
What a Fantastic collaboration of mexican, modern american!! What i love about taco here is freshly made yellow corn tortilla giving authentic mexican flavor to it, house-made spicy sauce kicks in nicely!! Fresh ingredients and multi layered spiciness make Al Pastor so special! I love the way they marinade pork with Guajillo pepper, cumin which is so pronounced. That harmony and balance is second to none! Hand-cut fries is so awesome too! [Update on 8/12/2023] It seems like they changed everything, flavor, ingedients, the way they cook. I give them 2 star!
There's a quote to be made about an overcooked burger slathered in aoli for 30$........ don't waste your time or money Ds diner, or Sequoia burger, is where you should be going. I'd rather drive to fosters on Sebastopol road. Hey atleast you nailed the ambiance.
I have been going to Handline off and on for years but the last two times have been seriously disappointing, Today we ordered and waited over 20 mins before asking about our order. Their response was it was coming momentarily.. after another 10 mins. I asked again and the person checked and said it would be another 10 or so minutes, “that orders were taking over 30 mins to fill”. We waited OVer (40) minutes ! For me seating on a hardwood bench over 20 mins starts getting uncomfortable, my lower back hurts. Also we gave a 20% when we ordered. No one mentioned they at a 40 mins. When we ordered. It was a sunny busy day, but it wasn’t full. My Previous visit my tortillas were cold and like cardboard, not good, since the fresh tortilla's are a big part or the toco.. honestly I am done coming to this place… something has shifted.
I like to come here periodically and quality is a hit or miss. Sometimes there’s very little fish in the fish tacos.. like one or two bites of fish. This last time I got food poisoning from their fish tacos. Handline - please check your supply chain and food storage/ handling. Gross.
I visited Handline restaurant for the first time this week and it will be my last. I ordered the fish tacos and when they arrived I could smell them as they were placed in front of me. I took two bites and the smell was so overwhelming, I couldn't finish them as I was afraid of getting sick. ( Side note, I owned a restaurant and know that fresh fish doesn't smell). I took the plate to the counter and quietly told the person that the fish smelled and of my concerns about eating them. He smelled them and said he didn't smell anything and did offer me another entree but I didn't like anything else on the menu and passed. I didn't ask for my money back or was I offered a refund. I just left. I have a very poor sense of smell and rarely smell anything that isn't pungent( think skunks) , and these definitely were terrible. I noticed another customer had the same complaint about the tacos and said he contracted food poisoning. I'm usually very understanding about restaurant service and food, they can have a bad day, however, besides the smelly fish, I noted the prices on the website were outdated and the staff never smiled. There is no excuse to not keep your website prices current (truth in advertising) and a smile is free. Sadly I will never return or recommend this restaurant.
