A really friendly place with great food and drink.
Brilliant family evening with super attentive staff and great food.
Absolutely delicious food. Delicious cocktails and the staff are so lovely, I’ll definitely be back.
Nice welcome, good service, tasty food (as ever we over-ordered) and nice Calvados-based cocktails. Recommended. A Sunday night visit mean free on-street parking was close by, always a plus.
Absolutely insane service, our waiter and bartender (Samuel Robert James Biggs) was the best, the vibe was immaculate, the drinks were fast, well priced, and made perfectly (thanks Sam). Can’t wait to go again!
It was empty today but food was brilliant (and I am very critical with our Spanish food). The service was great plus the price better than I was expecting. A great discovery in Hampshire!!
Absolutely blown away by the food; bread and dips (which were divine) for starter followed by 6 small plates and by god were the portion sizes perfect!! Wine is delicious and I left leaving full! The staff were attentive and helped make the evening a fantastic one! I looked forward to coming back again!!
Food, drinks and service excellent, but noisy. Have to practically shout to each other to have a conversation.
Down into the dungeon for cocktails. They put some effort into making them, which is becoming a pleasant surprise 🫢 Great Moscow Mule, pretty good hot snacks. Definitely worth a pit-stop
We needed a venue for a large party of people following a business meeting. We asked if they could do some cocktail classes which they did for us. We had an amazing time. Halina and her team were fantastic. The cocktail making was great fun. The food was amazing and so was teh service and the atmosphere. I would thoroughly recommend this as a venue. Great cocktails, great food and a great service. What's more to say!
The food here is some of the best I've had in Portsmouth! This is a seriously under rated restaurant. The cocktails and food are both amazing and I would highly recommend the pig cheeks. 6 tapas between 2 leaves you absolutely stuffed so I don't have to say anything more about the portions ! A must try if you like cocktails and Spanish style tapas .
Upon arrival with no booking we were welcomed with open arms, even though the place was very busy already the friendly staff managed to get us a table. The level of friendliness only went up and the service by all staff was second to none. The food arrived promptly and we were blown away - it's AMAZING! We went a bit mad and over ordered but still finished it all and had dessert which was also beautiful in presentation and in eating. I cannot recommend this place highly enough and when we visit this area again we will be returning to Sant Yago for definite. Top marks for everything - food, wine, service. 👍
Great food, we had a party of 9 and the waitress was brilliant in helping us work out the most economical way to order our food without telling us how to do it which was great. Drinks were kept flowing throughout the night and the food was absolutely delicious. The pork cheek was my personal favourite
Very nice place..perfect for a get to get her or a catch up with the family. Lots of dishes to share amongst the table. Will return if in the area
Love the food here! Absolutely gorgeous food. Different from the norm, that goes for drinks too. Also ordered take out from here before, and it is just as divine and serving sizes are good. Welcoming staff
Great relaxing restaurant and service was excellent.
Went here for a New Years celebration, absolutely blown away by the quality of the food and drinks. Everything we had was delicious! Our waiter was the friendliest chap and gave great recommendations! Such a lovely vibe will definitely be returning!
Absolutely excellent food. We had a few small dishes and a starter to share and it was great. The steak was a standout.
Sant Yago is a cosy and vibrant tapas spot that delivers on both flavour and atmosphere. The space has a warm glow, a mix of rustic wood and soft lighting that makes it feel welcoming from the moment you walk in. The menu is full of creative small plates, each one offering something different yet equally tempting. We began with chorizo cooked in red wine, which was rich and full bodied, and halloumi fries that were crispy on the outside and soft inside with a sweet chilli drizzle that paired beautifully. The pork belly was tender and deeply seasoned, the garlic prawns were juicy with just the right amount of heat, and the patatas bravas had a perfectly spiced tomato sauce. Everything was served quickly despite the restaurant being busy, and each dish arrived looking as good as it tasted. For dessert, the churros with chocolate sauce were light, fluffy and addictive. Service was friendly and attentive, with staff happy to recommend dishes and suggest combinations for sharing. Prices feel fair for the quality and portion sizes, and the variety makes it easy to build a meal that suits any mood or appetite. It is a great choice for a relaxed evening with friends or a date night where you want to share great food in a lively but comfortable setting.
Thanks to the team for a really positive experience (Thursday 30 January). I'm currently on quite a restrictive medical diet, so eating out is a lot less fun than usual. The staff were very keen to figure out what I could have and made some amendments to dishes for me, as well as being clear about the things that couldn't be changed. Communication between front of house and the kitchen is obviously great as they worked it all out quickly and without a fuss so I was very grateful! Fortunately, this diet doesn't exclude wine :-) Helpful, friendly staff; interesting food and drinks; decent value; nice decor - definitely recommended!
Great evening (as always) - friendly and attentive staff, great food and cocktails - always a great experience
I hired the cocktail bar for my daughters 30th birthday. The communication and customer service was exemplary. The staff went above and beyond my expectations. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was delectable and the service proficient. The service provided by Jamie and Sam was outstanding. They were great hosts and so much fun. We all had a wonderful, memorable night celebrating. Thank you to all the staff for all your hard work.
Amazing food , cocktails and service ! Highly recommend !
Booked in for a quiet Monday night for our anniversary, our server was great, nice and friendly. The food was good, a large selection so there's something for everyone, deceptively filling, and all very tasty. Nice selection of drinks, including their own spin on some classic cocktails and a good range of non alcoholic alternatives.
Really surprised to see such a huge range of naturally gluten free dishes on the menu. There were also a huge amount of dishes that had a gluten free alternative available. Food was really tasty and very reasonably priced for the portion sizes too. They service was really friendly and attentive. Can't believe I didn't realise this existed for great gluten free food, will definitely be going again!
We don't even know where to begin when it comes to thanking Sant Yago for hosting our wedding breakfast on 10th May. All in the run up to the day, Halina was beyond helpful, communicative and getting excited with us! It was an amazing venue for an intimate and fun lunch with our wedding guests. So many of our guests have commented on how brilliant the team was and they were always looking out for myself and Aaron - with Halina even helping me to get a stain out of my wedding dress! 😀 The food was DELICIOUS (as was the sangria!) which, again, our guests have continually commented on! They were also super helpful in helping us set up and with us requesting a few bespoke orders for different guests. As a side note, my bridesmaid gang took me and my friends here for my hen do where Halina and the team were, again, incredible. Brilliant cocktails, incredible vibe and just top tier organisation!! Thank you so much to front of house team, Halina, Jamie and Sam and kitchen team, JJ and Francisco. We will be back again and again - especially for the margaritas! 😍 Thank you. Kat & Aaron x
We love the attention to detail with the menu and thoughtful flavour combinations The relaxed atmosphere and friendly service, especially from Halina makes for an enjoyable evening. This is our go to place for excellent food!
Food was incredible as always, we can't wait to return. Plenty of gluten free options too (always a winner). Were surprised to have the place to ourselves. Fab service
A good mix of small plates. Excellent, attentive service. We were a small party of 2. There was a baby shower happening at the same time with 20 young mums enjoying a long lunch and it could have been a disaster, but the team managed it really well.
Babes the stunning incredible server we had for my friends leaving drinks was top notch. He double strained all the cocktails and made our night. Will definitely be back
Lovely as always. Loved the food! Came to the menu but still so good.
Love this place! Fantastic food, service, and drinks menu - plus a downstairs bar too!!
All the good things about celebrating Christmas. Great atmosphere, helpful staff, tasty food so good we forgot the horrible weather. Top class.
Had an amazing time here, the food ss always is excellent and the young man who served us was absolutely amazing!
Delicious fresh food, and very friendly attentive service. A lovely experience
We had a really pleasant experience Welcome staff and lovely food A little gem
Went on a Monday night so was quiet, about 4 other tables. Food 10/10, we tried a range of the tapas dishes and all were excellent. Only one lady hosting/ serving but was fine for how busy it was. She was very present and easy to talk to/ grab attention from. As it was quiet, we had choice of where we wanted to sit which was great. Great value for money, good portions and great wine! We missed out on special offer cocktails and 4 for 3 tapas dishes because we booked for 7pm. However, this will not deter us from coming again very soon!
Lovely experience at Sant Yago! We had a really great time at Sant Yago in Portsmouth. The food was delicious, full of flavour and beautifully presented. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the staff were friendly and attentive throughout our visit. A very special THANK YOU to Halina – she made our Valentine’s evening even more special with her kindness and wonderful service. ❤️ Definitely a place worth coming back to – highly recommended! 😊
Lovely selection of food and drinks. Friendly and engaging service too. We are regular visitors and it never disappoints. Particularly recommend the Moroccan Lamb dish!
Family outing for son's 30th. Arrived too early but we're let in while the team were setting up. Service and staff were flawless. Nibbles and fish tapas, truffle mushroom arancini, baked Camembert were delicious. We personally found the meat tapas under seasoned not to the same high standard. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
A very enjoyable birthday meal. We were a party of four including 2 vegetarians and a vegan - the food was excellent! Great service from the staff team - thank you all!
Sant Yago has always been a special place for my husband and I. That's why we decided it was the perfect place for our small and intimate wedding. Halina, the manager, was absolutely amazing from the beginning to the end. She followed all our instructions to set up tables and centerpieces, and went above our expectations with the organisation. The staff were extremely professional and friendly. They all made sure we had the best day of our lives. The food was delicious as always, it never let us down! We highly recommended this restaurant to people before, but now even more. A massive thank you again to the Sant Yago Staff ❤️
My first visit. Sunday lunchtime. Charming host, very helpful with suggestions from the Tapas menu. Food wad delivered quite promptly and was all totally delicious. We had cocktails not alcohol and they were pretty and very nice. Atmosphere was a quiet Sunday lunch for us rather than a busy evening or weekend which is their usual vibe. We were very happy with a bit of peace and calm. We had pre booked a table which was easy to do online.
Amazing food, friendly team, very cool place. It was loud, but not much they can do about that. It was Saturday night after all. Great drinks choices. Nice dining area, clean, good loos Only thing I’d change is dim the lighting a bit more. Use warm colour temp lamps throughout. Would recommend, will return.
I came to Sant Yago yesterday with my friend and we were both super impressed! The atmosphere was wonderful, the staff were very welcoming, accommodating, and always making sure we have enough drinks. The food was 10/10, I couldn’t fault it. If you get anything, you have to try the Sunblushed Tomato Arancini😍 The only fault I have is that we did wait quite a long time for our food to come but we did have cocktails in the meantime. It’s a wonderful restaurant, perfect for a date night, or for a group of people.
Great spot for a light lunch. Tapas dishes are rather sizeable compared to other tapas places, so there's still plenty of food to go round between multiple people. The food itself was flavoursome and filling – but the highlight for me is definitely the cocktails. So refreshing, I shall compare them to a summer's day.
Great Tapas restaurant! Menu has a great selection and valued well. Quality of food is great from starters to desserts! The cocktails list is also great and has a lot of selection. Location is good however there isn't much parking, however parking is walking distance. I would mention if you are considering here which I recommend; is to reserve a table as it is very busy and in demand. You won't be disappointed with you choice to eat here. It's also very clean with a nice atmosphere - staff were very friendly too.

Such a nice restaurant and the staff are lovely :) would definitely recommend anything from the fish menu or the pig cheeks, they literally fell apart from being so tender

Amazing! The staff were friendly and inviting, gave us great recommendations - the primitivo red wine is gorgeous. Thank you all for great service, especially Alina and Jason! <3 !!!
Such a fantastic restaurant. Second time we’ve been and it lived up to expectations. Lovely service, delicious tapas and wine and well priced. Great atmosphere too
My boyfriend and I went on a tuesday night it was quiet, and service was good. The food was good although I wish on the menu they had photos of how the food looked because the dish I ordered was not how I expected it to look. But the layout of the food was lovely and the atmosphere was very cosy.
What amazing food!! I didn't expect the food to be _that_ good. I liked the relaxed atmosphere of the place, and the staff were attentive enough, but unobtrusive. They do a good cocktail too, so much so we ordered two. The food portions are small, but that allowed us to pick more dishes to taste. We had six dishes to share tapas style and that was more than enough for the two of us. Six dishes, one dessert, two cocktails and a beer, and an optional 10% gratuity, came to £72. I felt that was reasonable and good value.
Went Saturday lunchtime and was not too busy. Loved the decor and the staff were fantastic. Food was good, the mushrooms and the bread and hummus were fabulous, other dishes were as you would expect - tasty with no surprises. We ordered 6 dishes between 2 and had more than enough food. Extensive cocktail menu which we didn't try!!
Great place! I thought that the menu and decor was stylish and we had lovely service all night! Tapas in my opinion is always overpriced in the UK and this one sits on the more expensive end of the spectrum as 5 dishes and 1 drink was around £28 each. I thought the food was tasty, the monkfish could have been seasoned better and warmer but generally speaking everything else was flavoursome and filling! Definitely a cute place for a date. I would recommend this place to others!
Tried this place recently and it was… fine. Not bad at all, but not somewhere I’d rush back to either. The highlight for me was actually the mocktails — they were made properly, like real cocktails, not just a glass of fruit juice with ice (which happens way too often). That was a nice touch and definitely appreciated. Food-wise, everything was decent but nothing really stood out. The truffle arancini were tasty and probably the best thing we had. The rest — a couple of tapas and a tacos & chips dish — was perfectly okay, just not particularly memorable. Price-wise, it came to about £25 for 2 tapas, 1 main dish, and 2 mocktails. Not outrageously expensive, but not exactly cheap either. In Southsea, you can probably find better value for money for a similar kind of meal. Service was friendly enough, no issues there, but also nothing that really made the experience feel special. One small downside: one of the tables looked very close to the toilets, which wouldn’t be the nicest spot to sit. Overall, an alright experience — nothing went wrong, just nothing that really wowed me either.
Having eaten at this establishment before as part of large "party" group, I was keen to enjoy a more intimate dinner with the wife here. We enjoyed some wonderful espresso martinis downstairs upon our arrival, with the lovely bar-person being an absolute treat...and a great mixologist! Eventually, we took our window seat and order a selection of mouth-watering food to share. I won't babble too much, but it was a solid 7/10...with only the "meat tacos" being dry and cold upon arrival. It's another solid night out at this pleasant and busy restaurant.

Enjoyed the food. Service was a bit strange, staff seemed really tentative and disengaged. All glasses on the table were dirty, had lipstick marks. When we mentioned this he seemed confused and only took 2 of the 4 glasses. Not sure if it's normal but also when ordering two beers we were just given the bottle... again no glasses
Very slow, had both floors open that the kitchen couldn’t handle. Won’t be back for a while
I think the good reviews may be for the cocktails, not the food. Apart from the chips (straight from the fryer), every dish came out cold. Including pulled pork, prawns, chorizo stew and curry. Our table agreed that the food seemed to be heated and then put into cold bowls and serving dishes. Not sure if it’s a different chef in the week vs the weekend, but we went on a Monday night. The service was great but the food was not.
I came here a few years ago when I first moved to Southsea and it was probably the best tapas place I had been to. However, my visit on the 7 March, the place is not what it used to be. The calamari, a staple in tapas, it was cold and anaemic. The albondigas, incredibly fatty and tasted of nothing. The halloumi, burnt. The service was amazing and I enjoyed the wine. However, I'm disappointed in how they've let themselves go. I doubt I'd visit again. Not worth the £52 I paid.
This place used to be the businesses. First visit in a few years and really underwhelming. We ordered lots of food and left wanting more. Food not as flavourful or exciting as it once way. Maybe the chef has changed but the lack of care and attention showed.
They have such a lovely looking menu but what you get doesn't always live up to the idea. Most of the food is good but a lot of it is also very average and probably not worth the price you paid. Nice quirky style inside. Recommend the Camembert and the pig cheek, delicious! Would stay away from the mushroom veggie dish and hallumi skewers as they're pretty flavourless and uneventful.
Staff and service downstairs was very good and attentive, cocktails were lovely. However atmosphere downstairs was not great sadly music playlist was not really right vibe, sounded like someone’s personal preference than suitable for customers, and it was very cold downstairs I kept my coat on entire meal which was really uncomfortable… the crispy calamari was soggy, focaccia should have been warmed/toasted, pulled pork delish, beetroot dish was very poor and tasteless, lamb was lovely. Overall I live santyagos and lovely to they didn’t inflate prices for valentine but overall would have preferred slight increase in price and uplift in some of the food quality and a different vibe downstairs
Sad.y the food (tapas plates) all arrived at once, the plates were very cold and the restaurant was also quire cool, so most of the plates were warm to cold. BIG SHAME as the food was well presen…
Overcooked and underseasoned steak, dry and flavourless pig cheek. Agree with other reviews the food tasted like it had been sat under a hotlamp, microwaved or cooked from frozen. Cocktail deal is fine, but all in all, not worth the high prices.
Food was awful, chicken wings were the worst we've ever had the meat was rubbery and dry. Aioli had no taste whatsoever. Pork crackling was burnt and was not seasoned at all, not even a hint of salt which you'd expect on crackling? Dishes were very delayed coming out. I'd finished some of my dishes before the rest even arrived. The waitress had even asked when ordering if we wanted everything to come out together which we said yes too. So disappointed as friends and family used too all talk about this place and it was my first time here. Maybe theres a reason ive not heard it mentioned in a while.. Even after telling staff the food was naff their attitude was "ah well at least some of it was okay" because we had finished some of the plates.. Such a waste of time a money - can't comment on the cocktails as we didn't try them. Perhaps the food is tolerable if you're already half cut. Decor upstairs and down felt boring and outdated. Neon signs and faux plants?Groundbreaking..
Contrast with 3 years ago, the menu and style is the same, but.. food very average and not good value. Chilli prawns looked and tasted pretty awful. Chicken overcooked and dry, as was the belly pork. Sadly we won’t return as the quality and value has gone down so much. Service was good, except for when we complained about the prawns. The answer was we should have complained when they were served! Diet Coke flat. Disappointed given our experience from before.
4 of us choose this resturant from recommendations and great reviews. The staff, wine and desserts were great but the tapas (we had a dozen) were very poor. We didn't complain as we actually had a good time but we all agreed how bad the tapas were. So really surprised at all the great reviews..😕
Food wasn't great. The chicken and chorizo tacos had a weird floral taste to them. The chilli jam for the potatoes was just siracha mixed with Thai sweet chilli.. the calamari was overcooked and rubbery. Won't be returning, unfortunately. Our serving staff were pleasant but food took a while to come out of the kitchen.
Visited for a Valentine’s Day dinner, our main server couldnt have done anything more , to her credit and didn’t charge for food in the end, however the atmosphere in general was somewhat chaotic with wait staff physically running at times, the kitchen was so slammed that we waited well over an hour for food and the quality of what came out was poor, beef cheek tacos came out as small chunks of unseasoned beef, not sure if beef cheeks or just cooked incorrectly. Aubergine rolls were cold , did not wait to try the rest of the food as it was around 9:15 (we sat down at 7:40) and we were very hungry. Went home and got pizza.
The service was great, however, the food was such a disappointment. We haven't been to Sant Yagos in a few years and were so excited to eat there again, but it's like the kitchen ran out of salt/seasoning. Every item of food was so bland and tasteless - not worth the £80 price tag.
Unfortunately, the food quality has noticeably declined compared to previous visits. Given the prices, it no longer feels like good value for money. The cocktails were the highlight of the evening, but the overall dining experience was disappointing. It appears cost-cutting measures have impacted the menu and ingredients, which has taken away from what used to be a great spot.
Food was awful, everything had tinned tomatoes in it, frozen seafood. The only positive was the staff who were nice but the food was terrible. I really don't know how they have 4.7 rate.
Really disappointed, had booked a birthday meal, noted this on booking but was not mentioned. Server was very unenthusiastic and unhelpful. Every dish was on the same salad bedding, literally everything tasted the same. One dish came out cold, when we complained we were asked if we wanted them to ‘warm it up’ - won’t be returning.
Waited 90 mins for food……… not good enough after booking a table for 7.30pm, we had been told there was a wait on food and to get some nibbles whilst we wait, it then took 30 mins for Olives to arrive then a further 60 mins for tapas courses to arrive - we were past hungry and this point, ate our food within 15 mins and left disappointed
