Silverado Cafe is a highly-rated spot known for its delicious homemade food and friendly service. Customers consistently praise the pleasant atmosphere. One reviewer noted a strong disinfectant smell, but still found the place nice for a stop.
Tip: Enjoy the good food, friendly staff, and very cold beer!
Absolutely obsessed with their huevos rancheros and cinnamon french toast. I’ve been coming to Silverado Cafe for a couple years now, and it is, by far, one of my favorite restaurants to indulge in! Staff is always composed of familiar faces—something that aids in making the place all the more charming.
amazing place that bring you back in time ok, the atmosphere is really beautiful and cozy, food was great I would come here again for sure
Silverado Cafe came highly recommended and exceeded my expectations! The breakfast we had was nothing short of amazing. Delicious food! I can’t stress that enough. In this day and age, it’s a wonderful thing to discover a quaint little diner seemingly hidden in the canyon and that really added to the appeal. The sort of rustic charm of the Silverado Cafe put me at ease and away from the stressors of daily life immediately upon entering. I would drive well out of my way to dine there again. Thanks for the awesome experience! Writing this review brings a smile to my face. Truly deserving of a five star review across the board!!
Enjoyed a delicious breakfast at the Silverado Cafe. Our waitress was attentive and helpful. Arrived on the weekend a little before the rush. I recommend the Cinnamon French Toast combo or stack. 👍🏼 You won’t be disappointed. The huevos rancheros were also gobbled up. Only negative was there was No T-Mobile cell service in the area. But that could be a positive.
My friend and I went to the cafe and got oat milk matcha and it was AMAZING! The barista/ cashier who helped us was soooo incredibly nice and kind! Definitely would recommend stopping in.
My boyfriend and I enjoy riding through Silverado for it's beauty. We decided to try out a local restaurant, and loved the environment. The inside was cute, and fit the style you'd expect to see for the area. Very friendly, fast service, and the food was made to order and yummy. If you're more of the high end type of person, I'd just keep going though. Definitely more of a relaxed vibe here.
Very recommended 👌 Friendly staff Cute place
The hangout for the entire town of one block with the homey feel of a back-country place miles away from the " 'burbs" of Orange County. The "town guys" at the bar answered our questions and raved about the place before we walked in the door. We had an excellent homemade warm cinnamon bun (a la mode, on the breakfast not dessert menu), iced coffee (on the menu) and took in the friendly fun atmosphere. We came coming back for the machaca and egg dish - worth a trip! Friendly service with a sense of humor, and super-practical prices.
Breakfast was good & service was great. Nice cozy diner, good vibes. Made me feel like i was in an old movie script or something.
You can’t go wrong with anything you get on this menu. My favorites are the Miner’s omelet, steak fajitas, and the cinnamon roll. Good place for a morning coffee or a mimosa with your breakfast. Friendly, attentive staff. Will always be one of my favorite spots.
Our server told us the Cafe has been there for about 100 years and you'll believe it when you see it. It's very rustic and comfortable. I've only eaten here on two occasions and each time was for a breakfast omelette. Their Canyon Omelet with potatoes is very good and instead of toast you can get a biscuit with gravy (which was delicious). Their iced coffee is very good.
Awesome little cafe to stop at if you are in the area hiking, biking or off-road'n (that's me today) The food was delicious and my server was attentive, fast and professional 👌🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Great place to go, friendly & casual, mostly known to the "Locals." A great place to eat that is hidden inside the small community of Silverado Canyon. Many of the patrons know each other and often talk from table to table.
Drove up for late breakfast. Had the best pancake ever with bacon and eggs. Coffee was delicious. Went on a Tuesday, and other patrons were in solely for the taco special... I'll be returning for sure.
Its a nice place. Its a hidden gem in the mountains. Got my car overheating after going down to santiago peak and ask some locals there if they knew some mechanic around and they just being honest and helpful to tell me and recommend me the guys who helped me out.
Great hole in the wall restaurant. The food is delicious, the service is great and the restaurant has a unique feel to it. On Fridays they have a special italian menu which is delicious, i recommend the shrimp a la diabla pasta (not sure how to spell the specific name). If you're in OC and looking for a mini get away, drive on up to the mountains and enjoy this place. They serve beer and wine as well. Beer on tap and bottles. Great for a date night.
If I could give this place 100 stars I would! It has such a welcoming atmosphere and the staff are amazing. The food is delicious. Silverado Cafe is one of my favorite places to go for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
The best hole-in-the-wall layback environment prices are good and portions are big 👌
One of the best places for large portions of good home cooking at an affordable price! Great place to grab food after a day hiking or visiting the monastery nearby.
It's really the only cafe in town but what could have been a downer is actually a delight! The counter is where locals and ones watch the tube, talk and some serve themselves coffee. There are booths and tables where couples and families and groups of friends gather for a hot breakfast or lunch. The walls are covered with photos of old Silverado Canyon, John Wayne memorabilia, and paintings from local artists. Taco Tuesday is alive here!
Our new local place. Very excited the food was great and the people are nice. And brewed ice tea! Can I pay to have them turn off the morning news shows, though? Worst possible way to start a day.
Me and my wife love this place. First went here a year ago and enjoy stopping in whenever we visit the town. Great getaway from the busy city, and wonderful view of the landscape.
One of few places in OC that has an authentic old time feel of the Wild West. Placed in Silverado, a silver mining town in the 1890's, the Cafe captures what it was like to eat some grub on your way to the mines, for it has not changed in many decades. The food is excellent and the prices are low.
The best little cafe in n the world. The cook has skillz and knows how to make some awesome food. People here are real and will always take care of those who are visiting. Cafe has history and been there forever. I recommend to anyone and everyone to try this place if u haven't, and keep coming in if you have. I would give more Starz if I could.
Don't come here very often, cuz it's kind of far, but I'll tell you. Their breakfast is to die for. It's a very small place but so worth the drive. The gal at the counter is very sweet. Go, you won't be disappointed.
It's a cute diner and it has an old fashioned feel to it friendly staff and dinerets. The area itself feels like it's own little town. I always wanted to move there. The food is diner food and mixed with Mexican food all was very delicious.. so next time your hiking over black star or at Irvine park or one many trails round area stop by the cafe for a bite.. family friendly.
A small place away from everything but very cozy, the food is delicious and even though only one person serves, he is very friendly and does his job very well, thank you for the breakfast, it was delicious
What a cool little spot up here, off the beaten path. I enjoy it every time.
The Silverado Cafe was a lot of fun. It has a great funky atmosphere, a very old timey and rural feelto it. I had an omelet which was outstanding. My friend had a burger which looked excellent as well. Service was great. I recommend the whole Silverado Canyon experience and coming to the cafe is a great way to cap it off.
I always enjoy taking a ride on my motorcycle and having breakfast here. The food is always good and service and prices are great. I had the chili verde with corn tortillas today, but all the Mexican plates are good as well as their traditional breakfast and lunch items.
As I was reading other reviews about this place all I kept reading about is slow service. So here's the deal. This place is NOT competing with Denny's or Norm's. If you want a "choke n' puke" with a commercial feel to then by all means, go to one of THEIR locations. If you have to be in and out in 20 mins, THIS IS NOT YOUR PLACE. If you are looking for a very cool eclectic diner with a small hometown vibe that's privately owned, and quality cooked food, this IS YOUR PLACE! While it's TRUE they don't work with a big staff so you won't have someone coming around every 3 minutes to fill your cup and ask if everything is alright, I found the service adequate. My miners omelet was awesome and the biscuits and gravy were outstanding! VERY COOL PLACE!
Showed up like 2 minutes after they closed and they still made us Burgers and Fries to go. Awesome service and amazing place.
Rustic Cafe that has been here for decades! Very good food, nice service and friendly Locals. I've been coming to Silverado Canyon for more than 50 years, still a beautiful place.
Small crew, but they work fast and efficiently. The food was great, and the prices are awesome. I'm definitely coming here after hikes and bike rides.
Silverado Cafe is iconic and one of the few places left in souther Orange County that allow you to walk in and feel like time has stood still! Greeted with a friendly hello from behind the bar top, cozy quaint booths, local artwork, and just good old fashioned service with a smile…I think this type of Americana nostalgia is what made and continues to make, small towns so important and you won’t be disappointed when you walk inside and get transported to a time when life was simpler, a good burger and a friendly smile were enough to make your entire week feel better, and you know that you helped one more establishment avoid the clutches of becoming a corporate owned chain restaurant! Silverado Cafe is one of our favorites in the area and worth your time to go and enjoy the food and ambiance! They offer a full menu, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner..just check their hours ahead of time because people run on quality time, not corporate time, in the canyon! Enjoy!
So good to get away from chain restaurants and so good to get into a rural setting. Great service. Went just between breakfast and lunch crowds, so no wait. Reasonably priced. Hard shell tacos we're good. Everyone in our 6-person party liked what they ordered. Will return.
Food is good, just needs a lil more salt
This place never disappoints. Food is excellent, great quality and pleasant atmosphere. Keep up the amazing job 🫶
Sandwiches were fabulous, American Italian themed, I had the Pastrami, was delicious. The beer selection is excellent, and the wines were tasty too! We're planning to stop for breakfast, will update this list once we've tried it. 😋
If you're looking for a rustic experience with great food and service, this is it! There are lots of options for breakfast and their burgers and fries (oh the fries!) are wonderful. It's basically a watering hole for the residents of the canyon and, although we don't live there, we go often. It's a beautiful drive in and out of the canyon too.
I've been going to this cafe since I was 10 so 43 years now. The food is good, breakfast is fantastic. Taco Tuesday is another big reason I'll go here. I've had almost everything on the menu and all of it is good. All the melt sandwiches are always perfectly grilled, chocolate malts Soo so good real ice cream. All at a low price point which is hard to believe at today's food costs. It's located in beautiful Silverado canyon with a creek right behind. Service can be a bit slow, so don't be in a hurry. Lots of locals will meet up and sit at the bar. If you've never been and heading to Silverado for a hike or other adventure it's a must to stop in and check it out. PS. All the art is from local artists and can be purchased right of the wall.
Stopped in a few years back with my husband who lived up the canyon on Olive Dr. for a short and he used to stop in this place all the time. He said the food was pretty good then too. Also said it was a meeting place for the locals.
We stopped for lunch after driving up to Santiago Peak. Older restaurant located in the canyons. We ordered asada hard tacos and patty melt/fries. Side of chips/salsa.. Chips fresh out of fryer and salsa outstanding. Our food came quick and was hot and tasted great. Great customer service and food.. Bill total was $30 including tip.
Fun cafe and good food. Dog friendly meaning outdoor tables. Nearby landmark is the huge new fancy St Michael’s Abbey, worth a stop to see church ($140m) and enjoy a great lunch here.
To be honest great food. The vibes are immaculate. In middle of nowhere just feels great. I got 3 pancakes egg and sausage for about 20 bucks. Great customer service aswell. Recommend if you are camping near here
Great breakfast joint. Came to this little canyon for Cars & Coffee and was pleasantly surprised by this beautiful community. This Cafe is exactly the kind of place you hope to find in an area like this. A hole-in-the-wall place with fantastic food and service. Will come back and eat here again soon for sure.
Truly a time capsule of the old American diners. Super cozy, staff amazing and food was reasonably priced and tasted stupendous. Perfect for before or after a long hike.
Absolutely incredible. Best kept secret in OC if not all of Southern California. From the top notch authentic Mexican food to the all American diner style breakfast with a full stack higher than the steep canyon walks themselves and as fluffy as the clouds that spot the gorgeous canyon sky, this place has it all. Family owned and operated to guarantee to the best quality food and service. Thank you to the Cafe staff for keeping this place amazing.
I had the side of Biscuits and gravy with a side of corned beef hash. Oh my goodness! Absolutely amazing food - coffee was pretty good but nothing special and service was awesome! Thank you all so much for a great breakfast! Will definitely make my way back to this spot in the future.
This restaurant is a great gem very popular to locals, and is located in a small community that feels far away, yet really only 20 minutes from the freeway. The atmosphere is very rustic and makes you feel like you've been transported back in time 50 years - especially with no cell service here. A great place for breakfast or lunch, and they offer daily specials that offer in incredible deal. The food tastes like a delicious home-cooked meal, an the staff are friendly, although service can slow down greatly when it's busy on weekends.
As usual, great stop in the canyon! The cafe was closed, but there were premade sandwiches and snacks available in the store. Always recommend the giant cookie or brownie at the counter! The gal working was super friendly and helpful, a bright spot after a long drive:)
The machaca and eggs here were delicious! The tortillas were served up hot. The coffee was above my expectations for a diner setting. The drive in was great and there are so many places to go hiking near here.
Great food, great service, and feels like a place you might have run into Harry Dean Stanton once upon a time. :) Bonus: they let you use the restroom even if you’re not a customer. This is a great kindness to those of us with Barbie-sized bladders!
Perfect if you're just looking for a cozy, small town type little cafe. Aptly portioned and priced so I didn't have to pay for a ton of food that I wasn't going to eat. Chorizo burrito was delicious and my 4 yr old daughter finished most of her kid's French toast and eggs. Server was very nice. Will definitely return!
My review is a bit biased and I will start out with this. My current partner and I met here on our first date. Our waitress was so sweet and kind and gave us lots of time and space. I think she knew it was out first date. The food was good. It's a bit small but cozy. The place is well decorated and clean. The waitress was welcoming and friendly. The bathrooms are small but also clean and fresh smelling(we went in the middle of July). It's a great place. Although I will say I had zero cell signal. This place is lovely and will definitely hold a special place in my heart. 💜 D+A 7/16/23
Solid food, never disappoints. Great little spot in the canyon
This is a rustic cafe in a beautiful mountain setting, the menu is surprisingly diverse from country breakfast, to Italian dinners! They couldn't have been more friendly and accommodating. I was there for breakfast and returned for dinner having worked on the Santiago hilltop communication site
The atmosphere is really nice. The food is good, but seating will be a little tight.
There actual want a crowd. Service was fast and friendly. It would have been nice if they had refilled our drinks. No on came by to check on us after we were served our food.
Great little spot tucked away behind the Silverado Canyon. Super quiet, kind of nostalgic, like stepping into a small town diner from back in the day. Service is friendly and laid back. The food is solid old school comfort food, nothing fancy, but hits the spot after a good ride. Perfect place to pull over on the Harley for breakfast or lunch. I’ve stopped here a few times now and it never disappoints. It’s got that local charm that’s hard to find anymore.
I really wanted to love this place but I think my favorite part about it was the service and the scenic drive out to it. It’s a tiny little country diner nestled in a canyon in eastern Orange County. It really feels like you are leaving the city and it’s very tranquil and quiet surrounding the restaurant. The food quality was honestly nothing special and being that I go to diners often every month, the meal itself was not very memorable, but we still had an enjoyable experience. The restaurant itself is pretty small, they don’t have any outside seating, everything is indoor, but they do have booth, table, and counter seating. There’s also a free parking lot attached in the dirt lot right next to the restaurant. Our server was really polite and we were actually the only two people dining for breakfast on Friday morning, which we thought was pretty unusual. We arrived around 10 AM as well so it wasn’t at opening. I started off with a Cinnamon Roll for the table, and this is my favorite part of the meal. It was really tasty and very filling. I wish there would’ve been a stronger cinnamon flavor, and more glaze, but that’s just my personal preference. For my breakfast, I chose the Chicken Fried Steak and thought it was overly cooked. It was almost too crispy so the flavor was really cooked out of it. The gravy on top also had ham pieces in it, which can be a nice touch, but I thought it took away from the steak flavor. My eggs were also a little overcooked so all in all the food quality was not my favorite part of the meal. I would suggest to anyone in the area to try it at least once because it is a really unique place to have a quick and casual meal.
Great drive out to Silverado. Fun, old, family type diner with a lot of character. The food was ok. The people and ambiance were fantastic. Fun place for a Sunday drive brunch type meal.
This is a local old school diner. Things move a bit slower here so have patience. When we were here there was only one man taking care of all the tables. I was told this is not normal. The food is good, the building rustic, and the location beautiful. I highly recommend the French Toast. My wife and I enjoyed a great conversation at the bar with one of the locals. This is a place for getting to know people and enjoying the surrounding beauty. It is unspoiled by the LA undesirables and I hope it stays that way.
The drive heading out to Silverado Canyon is beautiful. The restaurant is very simple and there was only 1 person serving so the service is slow. I still liked the food and the service. There are a lot of food choices that I would probably try to taste one day.
Humbling little cafe in the hills right near the Abbey and the post office. If you're ever up in Silverado, this a pretty cozy spot to grab breakfast after Church.
Silverado Cafe is a quaint little diner in a quiet town. They have all the basics and do it right. My favorite is their taco Tuesday specials. If you want to meet the locals, definitely get yourself a seat at the barstools on a Tuesday and enjoy some good tacos and good vibes.
Found this place for breakfast, the food was awesome! nice drive threw the mountains to get here. Place is a little dingy, but it just adds to the charm. A true Dive, but in all the good ways.
It's a rustic mountain seeing that does not welcome pretentiousness. Service is good and food is great - except they use cheeze whiz for the grilled cheese which was not the texture you'd expect... Overall with checking out if you're in the area.
You feel like you walk into Knotts Berry Farm. idk if that the look they were trying to get, or it's just old in need of remodel. The wait was long. Only 2 other tables were used. Otherwise, it was empty. Notice call-in orders were a priority.
Bacon and eggs, without bread for Keto / Gluten-free needs. Eggs were great. Bacon was dry, pressed, and pre-cooked. I understand prepping food. Par baking bacon would be as flexible, and allow you to flash it on the grill to heat it.
This is pretty much only patroned by locals but the food is very good! It is well worth it to stop here if you are going up Santiago Peak or going to a watering hole and exploring. In my visit the locals were very friendly and chatted with me over my meal. Service was not that fast even when it wasn't busy but this is a really great place with good people. Seating is semi- limited but parking is easy!
Cute place with a fun rustic feel. It was crazy busy when we went and very limited staff, but for the limited staff they were very friendly. Food was good and afterward we enjoyed a drive down the canyon.
The my daughter had the chorizo and egg breakfast and I had a shredded beef burrito Wet. Everything was very well made tasty fresh and good. The. Service is good as I do know menu Spanish. I cannot fault the place and the pricing is very good. The seating need some repairs
This is a rustic 1930's country roadside cafe. Food is tasty with many hearty dishes to choose from. Many Mexican dishes as well. There are zero upgrades to this wonderful little step back into history place. Fair priced food. Service is great to poor depending on the waitress. If you use the bathroom remember I said 1930's okay? You will probably enjoy this spot because of its unique location. I heartily recommend it.
The burger and fries were great! As far as the service its not fair to judge them during this crazy pandemic. They had tables set up outside to only eat to go orders. The yellow jackets made it hard to eat. That was not their fault though!
They need help serving. Week days was not to bad. I went Saturday morning and it took me 45 minutes to give the young man my order. It took almost 30 minutes to get it. But the people are friendly and food is good. I like the cozy atmosphere.
Cool little diner in the canyon. They have a great breakfast.
OK good, don't eat there often. Son lives near so we eat at his house mostly.
I entered through the side door. 4 of us dined in. We were the 2nd table with customers when we arrived so no waiting. Were seated, given coffee. Asked for silverware. Were given 2 spoons & one napkin, to share with 4 people. Then we ordered & received food in a timely manner, as well as all requests (jelly, salsa, creamer). Each time one of us asked for an item,, just enough was brought for one person,, so we had to keep asking (creamer, silverware, napkins, jelly). There was a container for creamers & one for jellies on our table, so not sure why they weren't filled). Then we never had server come back to offer anymore coffee or ask us how the food was & if we need anything else. We had to get up to go ask for more jelly (we had 4 ½ pieces of toast each, & 3 jellies for whole table. Then again, had to get up and ask for more coffee, and yet again ask for more creamer, for said coffee already brought to table. Others in my party got up to ask so didn't see server but did hear her conversing behind the counter. I left through the front door and almost tripped, due to a piece of wood buried into the dirt. Luckily I had a cane & was able to catch myself. Door only opened ~⅓ of the way. Hope they never need the fire department because it would be difficult to get a firehose in the door properly (fire hoses need a lot of space, as they can't be bent and curve around a tight corner when filled with pressurized water).
Your average cafe - average food, service, surroundings. NO light in the bathroom, NO air conditioning on an OVERLY hot day (but surrounded by trees & stream). The only thing that stood out about this place was that it was one of two in awkward places that didn't seem like they SHOULD be there... two cafés, on a road, in a little canyon, where only houses are. But, they do have a few other shops and some fun gatherings that happen here, from what I understand and the cafe has been around for awhile, and I was having a bad day myself with the heat, a motorcycle run, some dehydration. Taking it ALL into consideration, again, still just your average little place.
A place to go one time! A better idea is take a picnic lunch if you want to eat in Siverado Canyon. Should be called The Dirty Diner. The burger was marginal at best, freezer fries not so good, and it took forever!
Service was extremely slow and unfriendly. The burger was VERY WELL DONE. Loud drunks were sneaking in hard liquor. The place seemed like a hang out for locals only as the staff spent the majority of their time with the partiers and very little time waiting on customers or cleaning. It's really too bad. I love a local mom and pop type place and this place is really cute. We were quiet and patient but were still met with sarcastic comments about being civilized and welcome as we left. It didn't look to me like any of the other non-local guest were being treated any better.
