Live music, delicious food and very professional service. The burgers are amazing, also the beats goat cheese salad. Fies in truffle oil...yumyyy
Service was excellent and attentive. Food was also good with decent portions. And most impressive, on NYears Eve, they made the entire menu available so you didn't have to order from the NYears menu.
Awesome neighborhood. Perfect place to have a drink and kill some time. I didn't eat but the food looked good that people ordered around me.
Love this neighbor bar and kitchen on Skillman and 46th. Attentive staff and great ambiance. Love the infinity mirror (not sure if that's what its called), drinks, fries and the burger.
Our first dining experience outside since the pandemic and a great choice!!!! Comfortable outside seating and grea service and especially good food!!!! Definitely a return trip!!!!
Had shepherds pie and it was very tasty. Servers were nice and very accommodating to the 2 dogs that also dined outside with us
Plenty of outdoor seating to choose from - opted for the back which had well spaced out tables. Food was really good and the service was great.
Fun spot with good beer selection. On Mondays they do a pint+burger deal for ten bucks. Worth checking out
Great places for food and drinks! Been coming here for about a year and have ate countless meals yet I’ve never had a bad one. Fantastic salmon and steak dinners. The owner is extremely nice and so is the staff. As we deal with this pandemic I pray they can make it with all the bs rules being put in place. They are literally doing their best to serve us and stay open so go out a support! Thanks for staying open we appreciate the value you add to the neighborhood
Had a delightful cocktail tasting with a friend. We tried nearly all of the $8 summer cocktails on the menu (try the mint lemonade and the aperol spritz and the classic margarita) and for just a bit, we forgot about the problems of the world and just enjoyed the people-watching on Skillman Ave, the delicious drinks and the attentive service. I have eaten here two previous times and was also not disappointed. What a fantastic neighborhood spot!
Stopped by after long walk with family, great happy hour & delicious food. Came early afternoon and outside was just perfect
Boozy butterscotch hot chocolate my favorite
First restaurant I visited in 2020. Picked the spot for a first date and I am happy with my choice. Staff is very pleasant and attentive. Food was in great portions and tasty. Atmosphere was homey and place wasnt loud. You can choose to be outside or dine within, plenty of space between different customers. Will definitely come back.
Absolutely delicious food with great staff! We go the steak tips, curry fries and panchetta mac n cheese and they were all superb!
Great staff,(especially Jamie), food and beer selections are amazing. Really love meeting recent locals as I'm an old timer. Interesting to know how far they've come and how they got here. Glad they love my hood, and staff, especially Jamie!
New owners, new decor, same great staff with a few lovely additions. The food is a fantastic improvement over the tried and true menu of the previous chef. Delicious food, wonderful staff, great atmosphere. Enjoy!!
I'm a bit biased :), but went with a bunch of Skillmans and loved The Skillman. The feel was very "neighborhoody", a great selection of beers on tap (try the Skillsner) and excellent food. The Beyond Meat taco was creatively prepared and very tasty, as was the vegetarian chili. Our server was attentive, but also left us to relax and make a real evening of it - we were there for four hours and never felt rushed. We'll be back! (Hopefully they'll have some swag next time!)
I was there for a luncheon, so there was a limited menu, BUT, the food was delicious and the servers very attentive and cordial. I am from the area, so I knew this place as a bar in the past. They have decorated nicely and have the seating arranged well.
An individual I struck up a conversation with on the subway mentioned how good the food is and suggested I try it out. Yesterday was my first time at The Skillman. The carrot & ginger soup had the perfect balance; the ginger did not overpower the carrot; and the consistency was on point (nice and velvety)! The meatball and ricotta cheese appetizer was very filling (great portion size). The banana bread pudding did not disappoint! The TV screens were great to catch the US Open, they even dropped down the big screen above the faux fireplace for better viewing! Luv the decor! The Skillman will be a go to spot for me! Kudos to the owner(s) and chef!
Good brunch spot in Sunnyside. Good bloody mary, and really good bacon. Wasn't busy until we were leaving so service was fast. Will probably be back since my best friend just moved down the street.
The bartender Patrick is so efficient, friendly and welcoming, you feel part of the family from the get go! Hector is amazing too! Food and drinks are always 10/10!
Extremely good food, very quick service and overall a lovely place
What a gem! The Skillman offers an intimate dining experience. A group of us former Queens residents wanted to get together in our old neighborhood to catch up on old times. The food was delicious. We had fish and chips, burgers and shepherd's pie. Everyone loved what they had. Dessert was just as tasty. Cheesecake and lava cake were perfect. The prices were very reasonable too. No need to travel to Manhattan. The Skillman has it all. The next time we're in Queens to visit relatives, we'll make it a point to come here.
I absolutely love this spot. We’ve been coming for years.
One of my favorite restaurants. I particularly love the shepherd's pie and the steak and guinness pie. Every meal I've had here I've enjoyed. Sometimes there's really nice live music at a comfortable volume. In good weather the outdoor seating is great as well.
Food is delicious! Drinks are amazing! Thank you.
Stopped by for lunch midday on a Monday when nowhere else was open. I was very pleased with my shepherd’s pie. Prices are reasonable. The server was very sweet, and even brought over a beer she had mistakenly poured and offered it to us on the house. Will definitely be returning to try the wings!
Perfect for an outdoor brunch on a warm spring day. The food was great, I love this neighborhood l and I brought my dog to hang too.
Went to the restaurant for the first time. Had such a blast! Wonderful food! We got flat bread, soup, beet salad and pork chop for the main course, and every single dish was tasty. The waiter was super friendly and checked on us frequently, but not annoyingly frequently. The place is beautifully decorated and has a nice and cozy atmosphere to it. We will definitely return.
One of the best places to get breakfast in Sunnyside! Their eggs Benedict, steak and eggs, and berry pancakes are absolutely delicious. Very cozy Irish/American Restaurant Bar with outdoor seating. Their prices are fair for the portions and have a wide selection for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Perfect for large parties or small gatherings. Very friendly staff that is attentive. Highly recommend for a visit!
Patrick the bartender was just simply amazing, went above and beyond every time. We love coming here every time after work. Nice place with real Guinness glasses!
Okay, you gotta love the Skillman! Patrick, who you will find behind the bar, will always greet you warmly, no matter what. He’s an Irishman with kind eyes and makes you feel like you’re a regular even when it’s your first time. The food is great! I’ve had the chicken, the salmon and lately I’ve been getting the shepherd’s pie🤤. The drinks are good too. Last time Patrick made me a mocktail and it was just so stinkin’ good! I will not lie, I go mostly for the live entertainment. You can find Mike from 8-11pm on Saturdays I believe on the mic singing familiar tunes while strumming his guitar. The ambience is quite nice, low warm lighting, spacious seating. There’s plenty of outside seating, but they also have a garden seating area. The place is available for events too.
My order seemed made with pride in the kitchen. You'll find the environment captivating. I enjoyed the fresh ingredients, excellent seasoning, and skilled cooking. Workers provided perfect service! This place has secured our repeated support.
In October of 2023, we had my daughter's wedding reception at The Skillman. From the start, the owner Gary couldn't have been more receptive. He was patient as he answered all of my questions and concerns as we began the planning process from a distance, as I live in Florida but my daughter and her husband live in Queens. He was up front about pricing because he didn't know what the market would be when the time came to prepare food but gave me an estimate which was spot on. We personally met Gary about 5 months before the wedding and he was was warm and gracious. On the day of the wedding Gary was available to us and couldn't do enough for us. The food served was delicious and his staff was gracious and couldn't do enough for us and our guests. The ambiance that The Skillman provided us was bar none. It was a very special evening that my family and our guests still talk about to this day. When we are back in town, we will make sure to stop in The Skillman. Thank you Gary for your exemplary hospitality.
Nice neighborhood pub to goto for St. Patrick's Day. Has a traditional Irish pub feel but also has a huge wide screen TV that they show sports on. Everyone was friendly and chatted it up with one of their regulars(more than enough reason to come back). The kitchen was open later this time and I ordered the Sheperd's Pie which was great. It came out right out of the oven, hence why I included a short video so you can see for yourself.
This place is always so delicious with super friendly and attentive staff. Their current menu is great for the summer and outdoor dining. Their steak tidbits with garlic Mayo is TO DIE FOR!!! I had their Spiked Mint Lemonade too and it was so tasty, just the right amount of each ingredient. They have outdoor seating on the sidewalk but also have a nice backyard space that has 5 tables that are under umbrella’s. On certain nights they have live music too which is really nice. Please also check out their brunch menu which has great food and drinks too!
My family loves this staple of Sunnyside. It used to be The Dog and Duck. Now, The Skillman it's even better. Completely remodeled and with a new menu it's one of the top spots again in the neighborhood. Check out my photos. Absolutely delicious food, great beverages, and kid friendly. I love this place.
Just about everything about my experience was great, but the outdoor dining table I sat at was way too sticky. I still see myself going every once in a while.
Food is great & service, too. Just don’t sit in the back where the sand is. It looks pretty but my friends and I got bitten up by mosquitos. It’s better to sit at sidewalk tables.
Excellent addition to the neighborhood. Great burger, fantastic fries, beer at the right Temperature and friendly service
The food was good as well the service 100% recommended...they have also live music after 4pm Sundays.
The ambiance of this place is great, burger was way over cooked at the time, Guinness only okay. Staff and owner very friendly.
Went there for brunch and had the celery cream soup with home fries and mimosa. Great tasting too. The soup was delicious. Went there to catch up with friends and weren't rushed. Will be going back for sure. The decor is kick azz.
Great food, but the chef should pay more attention to their steaks. Me and my friend ordered medium-rare steaks but it both came out fully cooked. A good choice for brunch.
Only drank and watched a game here but all good!
We have been before and food is good. Great Sunnyside spot.. I had the tacos.. ok . My wife had the fish and chips... Loved it. Service great as always.
Went for breakfast and had the burrito which was delicious. Tje croissant sandwich was also amazing.. very limited menu.. we went after a funeral service,, so time wasn't on our side.. lunch started at noon!
Cute spot. I didn't eat but the smells and the look of the food had me drooling.
This place recently switched ownership, rebranding and reorganizing in the process. Previously a very casual/ comfy bar with, let's say casual service and admittedly mediocre (at best) food , it's now a more upscale dinner venue, catering to the growing yuppie crowd in Sunnyside and the established yuppie crowd in LIC. Prices have increased, commensurate with an increase in food and service quality. I do wish the decor and vibe (and "The" name) were a little more laid back, but otherwise a great option in neighborhood.
Skillman Trivia on Thursday!!! Their peasant salad and their shishito peppers are so simple, fresh, and delicious- I get it every time. Their fish tacos and their jerk chicken burrito are pretty good, too. They also have an espresso machine and will make dirty lattes! Noteworthy: one of the only places you can go to in Sunnyside for a mixed drink under $10.
Went to The Skillman for Brunch on Sunday. Very enjoyable. I sat outside on a nice sunny day and ordered the sausage links and the pancakes - very fresh and delicious! However, my only complaint is the drinks. They should've offered a complimentary drink with a brunch entree' - pretty cheap of them to charge you for it, a lot of Brunch places offer a free drink with any brunch item. Also, the Bloody Mary was only sub par - I've had better. It was also missing the green olive garnish.
My last visit was disappointing. The roast beef sandwich was a letdown —it came on a burger bun and the meat had a gross flavor and the texture was odd. The wings were also dry and needed more sauce. Sadly, I don’t think I’ll be coming back.
Ordered take out - jalapeño Mac and cheese and vegan chili. Pretty disappointing, the Mac and cheese was just pasta with shredded cheese on top and pieces of jalepeno. The vegan chili was more vegetable soup than chili, lacking flavor too.
Very nice place for a date. Cozy environment. Good music. Only thing is, NY Sirloin Steak needs some flavor to it btw. Drinks are not tasty
Service was slow and the burger was not cooked to the temperature I requested (it was well done, but I requested medium).
As we Starting Out ( Giving Rating to Local & Businesses aboard) This is wht we does; Businesses, Resturants, Hotel, Lounge. .The Skillman is an Cozy place with an Nice atmosphere - we think you will enjoy it 🍴🍸🍸 bon appetit 😊 Saids " 718QueensNation ✨
Drinks were good….food was very bland. Had a burger, fish and chips, and a Caesar salad. All of it was under seasoned and tasteless. Also, the fish batter was almost slimy. I don’t think the oil was hot enough for the frozen fish.
Very good lunch deal (Burger/fries + beer $20). Busy for brunch, but always boring in general. Had the chicken salad and it was a complete disappointment. $18 sandwich with a thin layer of chicken salad. It had absolutely no flavor. The fries were nicely seasoned, though.
Good atmosphere and nice outdoor seating. We had brunch and ordered the veggie bowl and breakfast flatbread. Overall, pretty disappointing and mediocre. Supposedly had curry on the cauliflower but couldn’t taste it. The standout was the crispy bacon. If you need a user friendly menu and outdoor seating in the area then it’s worth swinging by, but order something simple like a breakfast sandwich and just manage expectations.
Not Great. Great Corner. Sitting outside is a pleasure. Vibe is good for what it is. Food barely passable. Plastic Solo cups served with my dine-in meal...on my plate no less is unforgivable even for a pub.
The burgers (special fish burger and skillman burger) were not seasoned well and super bland. It has plenty of outdoor seatings and very chill to have a drink but not sure I want to come back for food.
I liked the space. It reminded me of an old fashioned Tavern. I didn't try any food because I had read on line that they had Shrimp Scampi and that's what I had in mind to eat. They have a good happy hour. The bartender was nice. I might go back at some point and try their food.
I had to walk out of the restaurant since I was on lunch break and waited for about 10 minutes for service. The only people I saw were two customers at the bar. I Didn't see any employees the whole time I was there. Super disappointed, since I saw such great reviews. Hopefully they can come up with a plan to avoid customer experiences such as this.
Ordered a steak medium rare I got it well done. I paid 33 for it, I should get what I ordered for at that price.
We must have come on an off day, because everyone else seems to be raving about their brunch on here. We ordered the eggs benedict and an omelet - eggs were overcooked for both - solid yolks on the eggs benedict and a rubbery, bland omelet. The hollandaise sauce on the eggs benedict was very good, though. But we were generally very underwhelmed with the food. We also got a mimosa and bloody mary, both of which were good, just were a bit surprised about the smaller than usual size of the bloody mary. Otherwise, the service was prompt and courteous, and we appreciated the ample spacing between tables. May give them another try and will update my rating if the food is better next time.
Average to mediocre gastropub. Except for the burger (which is always the same), everything on the menu is overpriced, woefully small, and weirdly inconsistent. The Skillman must have a Bad Chef/Good Chef rotation going because no dish tastes the same twice, and every time you order a meal you have a 50/50 chance of getting a stinker. For example, one night I had the most awful chicken wings here and the next week the wings were edible. Another night I ordered the mushroom flatbread and it was delicious, the following week it tasted like cardboard. So if you like playing Russian Roulette with your stomach, come to the Skillman.
The Lowery a few blocks away is far superior. We paid $18 for an overcooked burger at The Skillman (after I asked for medium rare) if you are treating yourself to brunch go elsewhere. We were served water in plastic cups which is SO wasteful. Totally unimpressed. Won’t be coming back.
I always going there for dinner or brunch with my friends , today I was alone . When I place to order I only get appetizer he forgot my main order and I double check with him later but he never served the food and funny part he never asked me second drinks he just dropped me check . They were not busy . Won’t be returning …
I wanted to like The Skillman, the space is very cute and it has great outdoor sitting. However, there's a few things that leave me short from even liking it. Been here for brunch on a Saturday and 2pm on a weekday. The menu is different, their brunch didn't include many vegetarian options. There's no coffee or non-alcoholic section in the menu for the lunch menu in the weekday menu. The website's menu is misleading than the one they have in the place. I will say the staff has always been nice and I do like the space, as well as the music, yet not been able to order consistently, and having low options for vegetarian's is not enough for me to come a third time.
I give The Skillman one star, merely because there is no option to give it zero. I've frequented The Skillman several times over the last few years, and was even poised to host a private event with them. Sadly, the owners behavior is not that of anything anyone wants 6o deal with, let alone a paying customer. I had hoped to book a party of 55 people, and was informed that a 50% deposit was required. My first phone call with the owner was vague and felt rushed. The impression given was that his time on the phone was a favor. I looked past this, as many businesses are busy/struggling/adjusting to the changes that we all currently face. Leaving a 50% deposit is not something one does without having a clear amount of information. I made several attempts to attain information, but that led nowhere. I sent a detailed text to the owner, who proved just what type of person runs this eatablishment.establishment. I will include screen shots of the messages, so you can see for yourself that Gary of The Skillman has no interest in what suits his clients, but rather not being offended, hearing what he doesn't like and exuding an arrogant attitude toward those who don't see eye to eye with him. I always make sure to give the benefit of the doubt in many areas, but this cannot be overlooked. I will never recommend The Skillman to anyone. I in fact will urge them to steer clear. A proprietor with an outlook as such does not deserve the business of hard working people.
Too bad your food and service was great. But YOU lost my business by greedingly taking more parking spots on 46th Sreet. You have plenty room for tables. Shame on you. You honestly do not care for the working people in your neighborhood who need parking.
The restaurant has no respect for any wine lover. Brought my own bottle and was told that corkage is 50 plus tax...it's very high for the area. I agreed and then was told there was NO DECANTER available. A restaurant with no wine decanter...what a kind bs is that. If there is no decanter or other wine related service , why the hell am I being charged such a high corkage. Food price is also on average 1-2 dollar more than locations near by. Left and went to bistro 46. Had a great time
I just to go to the Skillman with my husband Like 5 years ago I went back twice like a year ago Menu is the same Food is not bad Customer service is the worse. The waitress Wasn’t that professional and I have to keep asking for napkins i did order a Drink the first one was good but the 2th drink looks different and taste different. The bar attendant was nice to change I hate to do this but the owners needs to improve. Better service . I just to love this place !!!!!
Just disrespect for food to go. Got both specials for Today's st Paddy's day. Corned beef and cabbbage and bacon with cabbagge. Card board container no broth dried out just not what is expected for a 60 dollar order. Maybe in house was better. But what "chefs" send that out?
This place has really gone downhill. I went for the Thanksgiving dinner and was pretty disappointed. Was basically mashed potatoes, stuffing and turkey piled on top of each other like mush. There was gristle in the slices of turkey and small pieces of bone as well. Had a glass of wine, which wasn't great, and the tab with tip was about $100. Service was rough.
I specifically gave instructions for a burger cooked well-done because I am pregnant and pregnant women cannot eat undercooked meat. The burger arrived red inside, visibly very undercooked. I called the restaurant to explain and the woman on the phone was EXTREMELY RUDE. She told me, “I’m sure the burger was cooked well-done.” This was literally after I explained to her it was not. Well, look at the photo, since you don’t believe me. Instead of apologizing to a customer and trying to rectify the situation, you chose to gaslight me. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE.
