I hosted a surprise 70th birthday party for my bf and had a total of 15 people. Made the reservation months ago and pre-ordered appetizers and salad for the party. Then each person order their entree. Everyone raved about the food, so you can't go wrong if you want tasty food. Service is good and wait staff is attentive. Everyone had a great time and the restaurant is packed. If you want a restaurant for a special occasion with white table cloth, this is it. I found it on yelp and Google from Florida and read the great reviews, site unseen.

Very good food… Nice atmosphere… Great service. Went there for lunch and had the meatball salad as well as chicken Parmesan. Greeted with hot bread and butter, attentive to water. Food was served, hot and delicious and just enough . We stumbled upon RSK by chance. It is very close to our jeweler

We had the most perfect bridal shower there this past weekend! Robert and his staff are super friendly and accommodating. We were able to go both the night before and morning of to get set up and decorate! The food was absolutely delicious. We did sit down menu #1 and there were so many options to choose from! There was so much food and the portions were huge. We had the whole restaurant to ourselves too! They don’t open to the public until 4 PM and the shower was 12-4 PM. It’s beautifully decorated and very intimate! We did a whimsical theme and the setting was perfection. It’s also BYOB so you can save some money there! The prices were also very reasonable compared to other places in the area. There is plenty of parking too! The shower went so smooth. The staff was on top of it and even helped clean up! Will definitely be back. Thank you Robert Scratch and staff!

The food is always excellent. I love the eggplant parmesan, one of the best I’ve ever had. Small, comfortable space with very friendly and attentive service.

Went here for the first time yesterday to celebrate birthdays and absolutely loved it! The food was fresh and delicious, the presentation was beautiful, and the service was outstanding! Danielle made us feel right at home and provided excellent service! My only regret is not trying this place sooner. Will definitely add this to the rotation! Highly recommended!

On September 20, we got to celebrate my MIL’s birthday. The head waiter Juan was a good hostess and so helpful in every way to make our event special. Mr. Robert was very accommodating and professional in all that he does for his restaurant. The staff were kind and genuine. If you ever need to do an event they will work with you.

I found this restaurant through an Instagram reel and immediately sent it to my Celiac friend! The hostess introduced herself as the daughter of the owner, Robert, and all of the women in their family tree are Celiac so it's taken really seriously here. Everything on their menu is GF other than pasta where you have the option to choose. This was the first time in 15 years my friend had calamari and outside of it being GF, it was so good and tender. They have a seasonal menu, and also specials they show you the iPad images of to get you nice and hungry. We got a little excited with our ordering and had plenty of leftovers. Will definitely be coming back for the Thursday live music!

I've been here several times over the years and I can say the one thing is that they are consistent. I've had small groups and larger dinner parties, everyone is always happy with their meals. The one thing that is different about them is their specials and desserts are displayed on a tablet. The visuals can really help with your decision. Their homemade pasta is delicious and I haven't ordered anything bad here. The staff is always very nice. Because it's a small place, definitely recommend making reservations. It's also BYOB.

UPDATE- 11/29/25 Nothing beats a meal cooked entirely from scratch. All meals are prepared from raw, basic fresh ingredients instead of relying on prepackaged or processed foods. The whole experience brings out a sense of nostalgia for one’s childhood at grandmother’s house. Today, many scratch kitchens pride themselves on making something particular. Located at a strip mall off of Minnisink Road in Totowa, my partner and I decided on dinner at Robert’s Scratch Kitchen for some of us as first-timer. The reservation was easily made via OpenTable. Upon arrival at this cozy, inviting, and relaxed BYOB establishment, we were greeted by the owner, Robert, and got a table immediately by the window. The menu featured a variety of Italian, seafood, steak, pork, and veal dishes that change with the seasons, including a full gluten-free option catered especially to those with celiac. Their usage of an iPad shows the rotated specials was a novel idea. For starters, we decided on the Artichoke Hearts and Apple Salad. Our main meal consisted of Linguini and Clams as well as Eggplant Parmesan. The food was constantly fresh and prepared exactly how we had ordered it. The portions were healthy portions. The price was comparable to the area. The staff was attentive and wanted to ensure that we were happy. Our server was Juan. We had a wonderful culinary experience.

If you didn’t know this place existed, you would probably pass right by, but in New Jersey I’m starting to find that the best restaurants are located. Inside of strip malls! I decided to try a few of the seasonal fall specials, including the truffle, roasted artichoke carts, their fall salad with goat cheese, which was very tasty, and my favorite spinach fettuccine pasta with Cajun shrimp and an amazing cream sauce! If you haven’t been yet, what are you waiting for? Also my server Juan was fantastic.

LOVED! Excellent food and service! Everything was delish and the visuals presented on an iPad for the specials and dessert menu was a great touch. We couldn’t order dessert because there wasn’t a GF/DF option to share for our party of 3.

This is my go to restaurant when I am craving Italian food yumminess! I have celiac which is an allergy to gluten and can’t risk cross contamination. Their calamari are the best! Even my friends who can eat gluten love their food! Also it’s BYOB.

Don't get me wrong, I love this place, and will probably be back. Last night however, I had a problem with my dish. It was special and when asked for the price was quoted one thing and then the bill came in it was $6 more. When asked, the waiter got no clear response, the dish itself was overdone, maybe that's why overcharge was noticed. Other than that, the food was amazing. Never had better cheese cake in my life, just melts away in your mouth.

Excellent food, atmosphere, and service. We went here with a group of nine and everything was excellent. Jose and his team were very attentive and welcoming. We got a couple orders of the fried calamari as part of our appetizer and it was some of the best we've ever had: very tender and lightly fried (so it wasn't very heavy or too filling); and the ginger sauce was a welcomed change to the usual marinara (which is still available on request if that's what you prefer). A number of us ordered the pork chop parmesan vodka special which was huge and delicious. They can also make the veal chop the same way upon request, which was also huge and delicious. Also, this place is BYOB so we brought our own wine and saved a few bucks. One thing that we had never seen before but appreciated: they used an iPad to display photos of the specials as they were describing them. It may sound odd, but it was really helpful. And it worked because we ordered a number of the specials. We couldn't have been happier with the experience. I'm already looking forward to going back and trying some of the other items.

Excellent experience! This place was on our “bucket list” of restaurants to try. We decided last minute to stop on the way to a Mets game and glad we did. We were not expecting a fine dining atmosphere but since the owner is a Mets fan, the team quickly set up a table for the 6 of us. One person in our group has a severe gluten allergy and it was so comforting to know the kitchen is completely gluten free and there was no chance of cross contamination. I had the fig burrata and Chilean sea bass that were on special. Everyone’s food was fantastic! We were taken care of by no less than 6 different staff members and never had to ask for anything. We can’t wait to come back!

We celebrated our son's 18th birthday and we couldn't had chosen a more unique place. The service, food, ambience, and attention to detail were remarkable. Our host Juan Carlos and Robert, Owner were outstanding and made our party a memorable event.

I recently dined at Roberts Scratch Kitchen and was thoroughly impressed, as it was my first time dining here. The ambiance of the restaurant felt wonderfully homey, adding to the overall dining experience. The filet mignon I ordered was cooked to perfection, tender, and flavorful. The service was attentive and friendly, enhancing the overall enjoyment of the meal. I highly recommend Roberts Scratch Kitchen for anyone seeking delicious food in a cozy atmosphere.

They took us in without a reservation on a Friday evening. The owner was so gracious and everyone who served us was outstanding! If they have the Rockefeller oysters on the menu —get them !!! So delicious! I made the review before I finished dinner that’s how impressed I am!

We threw a surprise 50th anniversary party for my mother and father here yesterday, 10/28. I cannot say enough praise for Robert and his staff. The restaurant is beautifully decorated. Lots of soft gold touches and the perfect backdrop for a golden anniversary. The tables were beautifully set up for us, along with an area for beverages, and another for decorations and gifts. The staff was super attentive, making sure everything was to our liking and that we had our glasses full! 🙂 The party menu gives you an array of choices. We went with the cold antipasto, which was a nice variety, and the ginger calamari which was outstanding. The penne w/vodka was top notch, and we chose a seasonal salad, since it is fall.. apples, blue cheese crumbles, and walnuts. Our main course was a choice of chicken franchese, Alaskan cod, or strip steak. Portions were plentiful, and our guests were raving about the food! Even more so, some of our guests really appreciated the gluten free accommodation, as often times at places, the choices can be limited or bland. Not here. Several guests of our party said they love to return for dinner. I myself, have to agree. We surely will return. Thank you again, to Robert and his staff, for making this day so special for my family and I!

A rare gem of a restaurant, seasonal menu and creative specials Roberts is sure to blow your socks off. Our appetizer was the most delicious plate of artichoke hearts i have ever had! For dinner I ordered the skirt steak which came out perfectly paired with mashed potatoes and asparagus and shrimp, Perfectly cooked with a great profile of flavor. Not to mention the service here was fantastic extremely friendly and professional, my girlfriend has a gluten allergy and she could have just about everything on the menu.

I have enjoyed many meals at this fabulous restaurant. I hosted a private party on Saturday afternoon which exceeded my expectations from beginning to end. The atmosphere in the restaurant is refined, yet relaxed. The staff is exceptional in every way. Our servers, Juan and Alejandro, were attentive, professional, charming and simply wonderful. In an area where there are many good restaurants, RSK stands head and shoulders above its peers. The menu is the perfect blend of classic favorites and innovative presentations. The owner, Robert is accommodating and easy to work with. The BYOB policy is the icing on the cake. Thank you RSK for all you do. You are appreciated.

Wow! This was a fantastic dinner experience! The decor is really nice. Service is excellent! And the food is phenomenal. We came as a large group to celebrate a holiday and they were very accommodating putting out two tables right next to each other. So many gluten-free options including chicken parm, calamari, pastas, etc... Honestly, one of the best calamari's I've ever had! The spicy shrimp appetizer was amazing. Definitely will be coming back here again. Thank you Robert for taking good care of our family. And thank you Juan for the great service.

We've driven past this restaurant plenty of times and finally stopped in tonight. We very much look forward to returning. Unimposing from the outside but a nice decor inside, our dinner this evening was just excellent. Our service was pleasant and attentive. We shared an orange/goat cheese salad and crab stuffed shrimp appetizers which were each delicious. I had the pistachio crusted halibut that was perfectly prepared. A very nice size portion. presented moist and tasty and substituting sauteed spinach for the broccoli rabe was a nice complement to the fish. The wife had seafood risotto, which I didn't try as it contained calamari (which I used to eat quite regularly until I found out what else calamari might be), and she liked her dish a lot. We completed the meal with coffee and coconut cake. The cake might have been the largest slice I've ever been served in a restaurant, which would be meaningless if it wasn't good. But it was just outstanding, and I've been eating cake for over 60 years so I know cake. All in all it was a wonderful evening.

My husband and I just ate there for the first time tonight and it won't be our last. I am gluten free and he is not and we both immensely enjoyed all of the food. Everything was piping hot and fresh from the bread all the way to desert. Service was outstanding. Portions are very large and worth the price.

Fantastic place, we were 20 minutes late for our reserved time but we were seated promptly anyway. The service was professional, attentive without being intrusive and very courteous. Food was standard menu fare but was done creatively and with elegance. I had the ahi tuna which was wonderfully done and ideally supplemented with wild rice and sauteed vegetables. Rice ball special was a delight and it was helpful to see it depicted on an ipad by our server. I've been here before celebrating a friend who got his professional certification as a mechanical engineer and they made the celebration so worthwhile back then. I'm glad I returned and will definitely come back again.

First time dining at the scratch kitchen and had a wonderful experience. The service was excellent starting from the greeting at the door to my server Mario who offered all of the specials and suggested the pesto gnocchi. He was very attentive, the staff constantly came by to check on our table and refill our waters. We got the tiramisu and it was great. We had an amazing experience and I will certainly be returning and requesting Mario again.

Visited Robert Scratch for the first time last night and was delighted. We were warmly greeted by Robert and shown to our table. The restaurant was welcoming with its elegant/casual decor and piano music playing over the excellent sound system. The waitstaff was very attentive and friendly. They made you feel like they were glad you were there. Food was top notch. We started with their calamari in ginger sauce. Amazing, the fish was tender and the sauce did not overpower the dish. We also had a special, mushrooms stiffed with chorizo and clams. Innovative and delicious. For dinner I had the pork chop parmesan with rigatoni. It was as good as any I have had before and they let me change the sauce from vodka to plain tomato. My wife had a special the duck bolognese. This was a very innovative dish and absolutely a treat. As with the calamari, this was not over sauced letting all the flavors come through. For dessert we shared the bread pudding. Nothing fancy but perfectly prepared. The price of dinner was very reasonable and the potions were large. We can't wait to go back and try other things on the menu.

As a family we dine out every weekend. Its very tough for our daughter as she has celiac disease. Whenever we do go out she is very limited on options. Then we came across Roberts scratch kitchen. When we got there we were told mostly everything on the menu is gluten free. My daughter was finally able to eat fried calamari which i havent seen her eat for about 2 years now. The 4 of us got different dishes and apps to share. Its also the first time we were able to share eachothers food in a while. Usually at home gluten free options and food taste bland, but not here. Everything here was amazing. We cannot wait to come back! You should have seen the smile and joy on my daughters face.

I came in for lunch, hearing from a friend that noted that this place was good. Immediately, after entering, I felt that this was an atmosphere that represented fine dining. When I looked at the menu, I was surprised at the reasonable, if not generous pricing. Thus, I expected a moderate lunch, only to find that the gnocchi was excellent and that the sauce was not just simple pesto. I would say that for this kind of food, RSK is the best around!

Recently had a surprise party for my boyfriend's birthday at Roberts Scratch Kitchen and it was outstanding! I booked the reservation on a recommendation having never been here before and I am so incredibly thankful that I didn't. The staff was phenomenal, the Robert was so accommodating and the food was incredible. The portions were generous, there was so much great food to enjoy and everyone left happily full. My friends and I are already planning another night out there. Can't wait to go back! Thank you for the amazing night!!!

A Culinary Feast with Impeccable Service at Robert's Scratch Kitchen Robert's Scratch Kitchen is an absolute gem, delivering an unforgettable dining experience that lives up to its name. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere is cozy and inviting, but the true star of the show is the combination of incredible food and super attentive service. For our appetizers, we started with the oysters and mussels, and they were both phenomenal. The oysters were incredibly fresh, tasting as if they'd been plucked from the sea just minutes before. The mussels were plump and tender, served in a light, flavorful broth that was perfect for dipping. For the main courses, the filet was cooked to absolute perfection, tender and juicy with a beautiful sear. My dining companion had the lobster pasta, which was a work of art. The pasta was perfectly al dente, and the lobster was sweet and plentiful, all coated in a rich, creamy sauce that wasn't too heavy. The service throughout the evening was a highlight. Our server was exceptionally attentive and knowledgeable, ensuring every need was met without being intrusive. It was clear the entire staff takes pride in providing a top-notch experience. Robert's Scratch Kitchen is the kind of place you'll want to visit for a special occasion, or simply when you want to treat yourself to a truly fantastic meal. The quality of the ingredients and the obvious skill of the kitchen team, paired with the impeccable service, made this meal an absolute standout.

We had our daughter's communion party at Robert's Scratch Kitchen and we could not have asked for a more perfect experience! Our guests are still raving about how wonderful both the food and service were! Robert and his staff are extremely attentive and want to ensure that everyone is happy. They are also very accommodating when it comes to food restrictions and allergies. All of the dishes we ordered were phenomenal, especially the ginger calamari! It was out of this world and definitely a favorite for our guests! The atmosphere is charming and the space was perfect for our party. I highly recommend Robert's Scratch Kitchen. Thank you for making our daughter's special day a perfect one!

Food is delicious (chef overcooks the gf pasta or 5 stars). The specials and dessert are shown on tablets. Table bussing service is seriously lacking. Reservations suggested. Small place. Only 15 or so tables

We visited Robert’s Scratch Kitchen today (February 14) for Valentine’s Day dinner. They start you off with complimentary bread, which was a nice touch. I ordered the filet mignon, and the meat itself was very tender and delicious. The sauce, however, tasted a bit like packaged consommé and could definitely be improved to match the quality of the steak. My wife ordered the gnocchi, and they were very good. For dessert, we had the lava cake, which unfortunately was a little dry. Overall, the service was very good, and the experience was enjoyable. I’d give this place 4 stars.

Enjoyed a lovely dinner here. Great menu & we loved that it was BYO. Atmosphere could use some updating & softer surfaces as it was extremely loud in there. Seemed they were missing a server. We had to ask for water twice & it took a while for them to clear the dirty dishes. Food was excellent. We enjoyed the tri color salad (split for us), goat cheese salad, & fig crostini to start. We also got a nice bread basket & we liked how they had olive oil on the table. Entree's: Rigatoni Bolognese was so good & such a large portion! We also enjoyed the arctic char & chicken milanese. The carrot cake was delish & expresso's were good. All in all, I would come back!

CREDIT CARD FEE We like this restaurant a lot. Food is very good and so is the service. We enjoyed both indoor and outdoor dining here. Turned off by the credit card fee. Roberts Scratch Kitchen, thank you very much for the reply to my post. I completely understand and appreciate the position that fine dining establishments such as yourselves find yourself. For years we have been trying to get away from carrying cash. Instead preferring to use our credit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay and the like. Is this fee posted at the top of your website or on your online menus? If not it should be. This way customers know what they're getting into before making a reservation and sitting down at your table.

Nice restaurant. The real rating feels more like 3.5 because the food was just ok, with the lobster a bit overcooked. The short ribs were good. Pasta for both dishes was good...quite spicy with the lobster. Fast serving. Very pleasant and attentive service. Good amount of parking outside. Overaĺl a good experience.

We enjoyed the rice balls and arugula salad for appetizers. The Artic Char was very good it was served with potatoes but they were undercooked. Also the asparagus were a bit hard. The service was great the staff is very attentive. I would recommend dining out it’s also a byob. The room is very cozy.

We went on a Saturday afternoon recently. We didn’t have reservations but were seated. The food was very good. Had a calamari appetizer in an excellent seasoning, I had salmon & my husband had cod. He was given a choice of preparation. He chose blackened. It was good, but not blackened. Traditionally, blackened is “heat”, meaning spices that give it a spicy kick. I was really looking forward to dessert since this is a scratch kitchen. They had nothing from scratch, the server said everything is very good but not house made. Someone reviewed this restaurant 2 weeks ago saying the homemade desserts were great! With pictures! Not our experience. Where’d the pics come from? Last comment, be prepared to get nothing not even bread without a charge. That was off putting. We dine out weekly & don’t mind paying for fine food that’s well prepared. But, give people something out of courtesy. They could put 6 olives on a little dish for the table & it would show hospitality.

Overall food was good, the mini meatballs were very good. We wanted to cater Xmas this year I always cook and with Xmas being on the middle of the week I was working Xmas eve. Like I said the food was good but I was expecting better. I would order again or go there for dinner again. My experience with being in the catering business for years and being a chef, making so many batches the taste sometimes gets lost. But definitely an 8 out of 10.

My wife and I went last night for Valentine's Day. The pros: food was good, pleasant environment, and clean. Cons: We went there because my wife has a gluten and dairy allergy. The owner was notified and we told the first server when seated. She ordered the short ribs with gluten free penne. What she was first served was minced beef with gnocchi. We asked the waiter if this was the short ribs and it was not, and taken away. The next dish was short ribs with gnocchi, in which I asked the waiter if it was all dairy free. The waiter didn't understand English well and we didn't get a definitive answer. Also we had rotating servers, 4-5 for the hour we were there which I thought was odd. The dish was excellent, but today my wife is curled up in a ball on the couch from one of her allergies. Also although it is a nice place, it is a bit cramped. Just enough space between tables to squeeze a server through. I had my back to the kitchen door and felt a breeze every time it would close. There were no extra tables so it's not like we could have been moved somewhere else. Also I found it odd for that a place that is known to provide a full gluten free menu, charged extra for being gluten free. The gluten free dinner rolls were extra, where the regular was free. The gluten free pasta with the meal was also extra on to of the base pricing. Overall it was an okay experience. I don't think we will be back but maybe we had an unusual experience considering most people provide better reviews.
