I mean, it's a diner on the edge of California and Nevada. The food is amazing and the eggs are real runny. Try the all day addiction...
Easy 5 star review. Service is always great. We've gone here with 6 to 16 people and everyone has consistently raved about the delicious food. This is diner food cooked right with great options for everyone. It's a super fun diner atmosphere that has the old school train car diner feel. It's a family favorite and definitely a place we go often.
This diner is incredible. This is the first time I try huevos rancheros with corn bread and I was pleasantly surprised. The waitress who recommended the corn bread instead of the tortilla was very friendly and helpful. The entire staff was very kind and friendly as well. Our latte was tasty and hubby loved the breakfast burrito. We will be back to try the ice cream shakes since they looked delicious!
I liked the food and the service. Dinner feel to the place, literally right next to the tracks hence the name as we learned. We had burgers, a sandwich, a salad and drinks etc. The server was cool, attentive enough but not overbearing. Definitely recommend this place for lunch or dinner (haven't had breakfast here yet)
I was craving a steak which was made to my liking without paying an outrageous price. The milk shake was awesome too. I enjoy "diner greasy spoon". Not to be taken in a negative manner, more closer to feel good home cook comfort and that is what this place was. It will always be a repeat visit.
Cool old-school diner experience right across the train tracks from downtown Truckee. They have lots of classic favorites for every meal of the day. I got the meatloaf that was featured on Diner's Drive-ins and Dives and I thought it was pretty good with a very unique flavor. I also got a slice of apple pie that was exceptional. Service was very friendly. Prices are a bit on the high side, but this is a touristy area so you have to expect that in Truckee.
Family friendly diner at the train tracks. Stopped for dinner one evening with a group of 6. Liked it so much we returned with a larger group of 8 for breakfast the next morning. Staff was friendly, attentive, personable & accommodating. Food was terrific at both meals- I'm sure those of our group who stayed longer near Truckee visited again the 3rd day. Highly recommended.
We happened to drive by this place and commented how cute it was and the following day while walking Truckee Downtown we crossed the tracks and decided to give it a try for lunch. The hamburgers were great, the pulled pork sandwich with cheese was off the chain and the shake that my daughter got was wonderful. No regrets from picking this place to grub at! The service was great too!!!!
Stopped here for a late evening snack. The place is super quaint and nostalgic. The staff was super friendly and the food was great. I recommend the chili cheese fries. The chili was great. The garlic truffle fries were a hit too. Finished it all off with a chocolate shake. Great end to a perfect day in my always home no matter where we live…California.
Simply just good cafe diner food. The service was excellent Thank you Jax by the tracks, friendly. Ther were 9 of us, booth seating, but together.
Oh my goodness their food is the bomb !!! I had the Philly cheesesteak and my husband had the Butchers burger … it does not disappoint!!! We are from Visalia first time here in the area all I can say is go and eat there !! Very courteous people and great service . Will definitely go again !!
JUN 2023: Recommended by a Reno friend and totally worth it! Right off Main Street, clean, lots of seating, helpful staff, no wait, nostalgic decor, and delicious food. Gotta try the homemade mac-n-cheese, huge onion rings and the “Butcher’s Burger” was like a Texas BBQ on top of a cheese burger!
After spending a day in Truckee we came across this place that we had to check out the next day for brunch. Glad we did. It's unassuming from the outside but inside is quintessential American diner. From the stools to the service to the food, everything was brilliant. Got the southern fried steak and eggs and honestly, I couldn't complain about anything on it. It was perfect. Highly recommend as a stop if you're in town.
Loved this little diner. Staff were friendly and great. Food was delicious, lots of options to choose from - tucked into the quaint small beautiful town of Truckee.
Honestly some of the best onion rings I’ve ever had in my life. The buffalo chicken sandwich was top tier. Our waitress was amazing wish I could remember her name to give her a shout out. Hopefully will be back!
Delicious! We ordered food to take back to our hotel and it was really great! The Guinness onion rings, lava cake, French dip and pulled pork sandwich was very tasty! Very easy to order online and pick up! Will come back for sure next time we visit! A+
This is THE BEST breakfast place I have EVER been to. Certified by Guy Fieri, I was not disappointed. I had the French Toast and it was to my surprise, filled with custard and topped with powdered sugar and fresh strawberries. The BEST French Toast I have ever had the pleasure of trying.
OMG I don’t know how I didn’t know about this place sooner. The food here was absolutely amazing. My husband ordered the Butcher Burger (pulled pork, slaw and bacon on a burger) and I had the Kobe beef meatloaf. But honestly, everything on the menu looked fantastic too. We will definitely be back and highly recommend. Do not be deterred by the unassuming nature of diner and the simple classic decor…the food was phenomenal. I was also pleasantly surprised by how quickly our food came out, especially given that we arrived at 6pm on a Saturday. Also…I always appreciate a nice, clean restroom with a cute painting on the wall. 😊
I loved this place!! After a expensive dinner across the street(that wasn't good) the night before, we were happy to get a really good breakfast. The only advice I would give this place is that they need a extra umbrella outside to cover the last table at the end. The food was delish. The coffee was sooooo good! I even drank it black! We ended up moving inside because the sun was hitting us right on our sun burns lol and the flies outside where crazy, but once inside we didn't want to leave! The waitress was on top of it and everyone was friendly. Everything we ate was delish! Highly recommend this place!
We visited the Jax at the Tracks, aka Jax Truckee Diner, for dinner on November 18, 2025. We encourage every visitor to do the same. The setting is as if from a 1950's era diner. Their servers and food were terrific: We had a great burger, fries, pizza, and a shake. Happy Trails
French Dip Sandwich was like leather. Can't hardly believe they had the nerve to bring it to our table. Should have sent it back. Since I did not, the most I can do is warn you. Don't do it. Gave it a 5 for being a cute place.
I read good reviews about Jax At The Tracks so we decided to try it. I like places that are different from the traditional restaurants or cafes. This looks like a railroad car, it’s right next to the train train. It is an older cafe and clean. The server was great. The menu had a good selection of food to pick from. We weren’t real hungry so decided to order the Truckee half pounder and split it since it was 1/2 lb of meat. The burger was great. The meat Patty was wagu, brisket, and sirloin. There are about 10 sides you can choose from. We ordered the French fries which were very good.
We went on our trip to Truckee this past weekend. I had the Lobster and Shrimp Mac and Cheese, my husband had the Asian Chicken Salad. Our friends had Chicken Fried steak and a BLT sandwich with potato salad. The service was a little lacking but it seemed the server was handling too many tables. Our friend didn't get his toast until he finished his meal. The espresso martini was perfect. Now let me say, the Mac and Cheese was superb! I wish we lived closer, I would probably be there everyday. I must try!!
We almost always stop here when we pass through the area and it's always a great experience. The French Dip and Bison Chili were both excellent. The Garlic Truffle Oil fries were also very tasty. Not too crowded this visit. Friendly service, clean and cute atmosphere. Still highly recommended.
The food was excellent. This time I ordered the Crab Cake Benedict and a Half Waffle. The benedict was excellent, the food came quickly, ingredient quality was top notch. The house made english muffins were extremely good. The atmosphere is great, classic diner that's been expanded upon but maintained a great feel. My only complain during this trip was the service. I sat at the counter, waited around 20 minutes for someone to recognize I hadn't been waited on. Once my food had been delivered, and my bill immediately dropped off, I never saw my server again. Base on other reviews, this seems to be an anomaly. Based on the food alone I will definitely be going back.
Jax At The Tracks is about the best spot on Truckee to grab hold of something hot ...not counting Lee Tae the Keno girl, but that's another story! I had a big casino breakfast and as I'm coming into Truckee for fuel, I figured ..what the hell I'll eat a little something to get me over the hill. Well, Jax At The Tracks is just ahead, and I remembered how great the mac and cheese is, so I'm doing it again! This time I got it loaded, and it was truly amazing! 5☆☆☆☆☆ for sure!

Awesome breakfast spot in Truckee in an authentic diner car. This was a great place for a group with their large menu and reasonable prices for large portions. We loved the Crab Cakes Eggs Benedict that came with avocado and hash browns, the BLAT, All Day Addiction (plate with mushrooms & goat cheese, as well as the sandwich), the Jax Torta and Burger.
Oh Wow!! What a rare gem in this cozy diner. Ran into this place during a Tahoe Christmas trip. Such a great atmosphere! The food was great. The pulled pork burger hit the spot in the wintery weather. Everyone was full of smiles and very greeting. Right out of a TV show. Ordered a fountain style milk shake just for the fun of it. Even the other diners were smiling and very hospitable. I would gather this is a go to for the locals. This will be a certain repeat stop every time I'm in the Truckee Tahoe area! Thank you Jax at the Tracks for a great additional memory to a great Christmas vacation. Will definitely be back!
I have always wanted to come to this diner but it is always busy but today luckily I got the chance to eat there and I see why it is so packed. The food is so delicious I am definitely coming back when I come back to town. I ordered the chilaquiles with Chorizo and wow they are definitely the best ones I have ever tried they were spicy but a good spicy I couldn't stop eating them. My daughter got the breakfast sandwich and she loved it and the milkshake hands down best one we have ever had. I definitely see why people come here. The service was great waiters did a good job in bringing our food in a timely manner. Overall great experience I will definitely be telling people about this spot.
This place has the best burgers. The 1lb stuffed blue cheese and garlic burger was super delicious. The fries that came with it were well made as well. Will definitely be back for the burgers. I saw a few people order the pot pie as well which looked really good. I will have to try it next time as well. This place has a nice old school diner feel.

Can’t believe this was our first time here. My wife and I had 2 delicious meals. The Classic Eggs Benedict and the Southern Fried Steak and Eggs. Very silky and flavorful hollandaise on the Benedict. Southern Fried… just order it already!Crispy breading and super tender steak. Woah!
This is a neat small dinner in a quaint little town of Truckee. The atmosphere is old school diner and I think it fits well. The eggs Benedict, a classic, was delicious. The restaurant was in a lunch rush and the seemingly few serving staff did well to serve us and the shef did well with the food as well. I can imagine that is not an easy task! My wife had the Jax Chop salad and it was great as well! If you come here I would recommend avoiding it on the weekend rush times as you may wait a while like we did. But if you can wait it is worth it!
In A Nutshell: -Jax at the Tracks is nice small-town restaurant where both locals & tourists can eat some good comfort food. -This restaurant (1948 Coleman Diner Car) is literally next to the busy railroad tracks adjacent to downtown Truckee. -There is indoor & outdoor seating (if you have a dog, you can sit outdoors). -This restaurant was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives a few years ago. -My wife & I ordered their Award-Winning Impossible Burger & their Extra Crispy w/ Jalapeno Mac & Cheese. -Both were very good, very comforting to eat. Overall, this is a great little diner to stop by if you are staying in or traveling through Truckee!
Best Lox & Bagel around. I’ve been eating here for years and they are consistently serving the best lox & bagel around, that I could find. I appreciate that they allow you to adjust the order to your specific preferences. The only improvement would be to offer a choice of bagel flavors. They are currently offering a plain bagel and that’s a good one, only it would be nicer to have a choice of sesame or everything, I think a lot of people prefer them. The atmosphere is old style diner, the wait staff is always friendly, sometimes a little slow, which is why I gave 4 stars. I’m more patient these days (of Covid) when staffing is lower than usual.
Food was great. We ordered patty melt and seafood Mac /cheese. Outside you get a up close view of passing trains. They do state they are understaffed , however, the bus boys seemed very attentive to a group of local teen (girls) that just soured the service experience. (Ie had to ask multiple times when a drink was coming and never got the Mayo I asked for after our food served ) Our waitress was light hearted n made the wait for service and our food pleasant. If it wasn’t for her I would give a lower rating. Go when not busy as the food is greatly priced , portions large and food good tasting.
Diner is at the railroad tracks in Truckee. It can be crowded so we go for an early dinner & get in w/o having to wait. Food is good but be sure to save room for dessert!
In short... The good... Super cute place! Clean and cozy. Seemingly lots of locals. My buddy said the chicken and waffles were awesome! The bad... (In my opinion) The corned beef hash. In long... The corned beef hash breakfast plate was, hands down, the worst corned beef hash plate I've ever had. I hate complaining, I've really wanted to try this place for a while. However, I really have to share this, I'm sorry Jax. You can see the picture I've shared. The menu says it comes with Country Potatoes...well, they either didn't give them to me, or, they are talking about the potatoes in the hash. The Country Potatoes in the hash, were mush. Instead of some crispy hash, I got some burnt hash. That tasted like it was cooked in a bottle of ketchup. On a positive note! My buddy got the chicken and waffles plate. He loved it, and it looked awesome! The place is a lot of fun! The staff was nice! A little slow on turn around, for me. (Typically, I like to walk in, order, get grub, eat grub, get check, leave...in under 30 minutes) When I get the chance, I will revisit this place...but I'm probably not going to try the corned beef hash. I'm a little disappointed, but, I'm glad my friend had a different experience with his food. Hopefully, I'll get the chance to update this review next time. And,if my friend didn't enjoy his food, like he did, my rating would be worse-then I wouldn't have reviewed Jax at all. Thanks everyone! Hope to change this review in the future!
While the food is delicious (highly recommend the bacon burger, pulled pork sandwich and milk shakes), service is very slow and somewhat non-chalant (no sense of urgency), You regularly have to wait 35 - 40 minutes for a table and the whole waitlist system is super confusing (the hostess is also a server and not at her hostess station half the time so nobody seems to know what''s going on).
Went for Sunday brunch and only waited 20 minutes. Their staff was very friendly and attentive. However, their food was subpar. The turkey in the Jax Melt was very dry and had no flavor. Their fries, while a generous portion, were unseasoned and soggy. Everything besides the food was good.
A fun stop that doesn't knock your socks off... We checked this place out due to its "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives" fame, and while there was nothing wrong during our visit, there also wasn't anything that would make us come back. The food was fine, the service was only fast when they wanted the check, and the place had a cool vibe. Average, and a solid meh 🤷♂️
I love stopping by this spot whenever I’m in Truckee! The atmosphere of it being on the train tracks is pretty neat and their malt shakes are heavenly. The food in general is pretty good. Typical diner style food. If you’re in the area and have never been, I would recommend giving it a try.
Good food out of a really cool diner- Drove all the way to Truckee from Napa and was pleasantly surprised when we decided to make a pit stop here. The food was yummy and rich, position sizes were big, prices were fair and ambiance was neat. Felt like we went back in time to the 50’s! The restaurant was pretty empty and so service was fast and also constantly checking up on us. What more could ask for?
Good greeting when we arrived. Seated right away. Service was ok, food ok and decor was a dinner decor. Just didn’t feel that dinner type vibe from the staff and so on. Maybe get more involved with patrons and tell their story of the place and what brought them to work there. Engage more and more welcoming. I would come back again for a second try.
My wife and I had been here many years ago, decided to come back. This is definitely a nostalgia trip. The money and the place itself definitely screams DINER!!! I had a chicken fried steak. Hadn't had one in years. This one was really good! I somehow managed to eat the whole thing. Highly recommend if you are on Truckee.

My chicken fried steak was delicious. Husband's burger was supposed to be medium and it was well done. Server never came back to check on us or refill water, just dropped check after I got up and asked someone for it.
Was excited to check this place out since it had decent reviews. Really loved the old school diner vibes, but that's about it. Server wasn't welcoming and didn't introduce himself. He might've been having an off day so I'm not to judge. Brunch time on Sunday was packed and we waited 30 minutes for a table for two. I ordered the vegetarian omelet with sourdough and hash brown. Omelet was below average. Bread was good but that's pretty hard to mess up. Under the omelet and hash brown was lots of grease. You'd think that if a place was featured on Diners, Drive-in's, and Dives, this place would be fantastic. I'm sure it was 13 years ago when Guy Fieri first went but that certainly wasn't the case when I visited. Went to the Men's room and was absolutely disgusted. One of two toilets was clogged. The urinal area was covered in mold. Maybe you might have a better experience when you try it for yourself.
A Neat Little Diner Serving Comforting Food. We came here for brunch and had a good meal. If this place gets busy, there isn't a lot of space, but I would bet the tables turn pretty quick. You can sit at the bar solo or with a companion, they have tables for four and I think we sat at one of the two tables for six. The servers were nice and attentive. I ordered the Paleo Kitchen Sink Hash ($14), a scramble of chorizo, chicken, bell and poblano peppers, sweet potato, mushroom, onions, and topped with one egg--any style. It was light and filling enough to not leave hungry and not make me too tired afterwards. It had good flavors and I enjoyed it--I added a side of their Homemade Biscuit ($1.50) and jam. My date ordered the All Day Addiction ($14), a house favorite made up of two eggs, triangle hash browns, Canadian bacon, avocado, mixed greens, chilled oven roasted tomatoes, balsamic drizzle, and basil pesto. She also finished it, but didn't comment too much about it, like I thought she would. Overall, this was a good place. I wish we could rate on the half-star because this place is a solid 3.5 Stars, but for this one I have to round-down.
Came to the wrong side of the tracks for this restaurant. I was excited to try this spot out since it was featured on Triple D, but walked away from dinner disappointed. The food itself was good, and I especially liked the crab cakes (which I split with my sister). The dill fish and chips were crispy and the tartar sauce was especially tasty. I typically don’t eat meatloaf, but found the Kobe beef meatloaf to be good as well. Portions aren’t as big as you’d see at your typical diner and the plates are pricier, but I’d describe the vibe as a more “cool” diner. Indoor and outdoor dining is available. Bathrooms are available in the back of the restaurant (2 stalls for the women’s room). Credit cards are accepted. Parking is available in their front lot and free after 6pm. The servers were friendly but slow and inattentive. What I now term “the milkshake saga” is what dampened the evening. There was a miscommunication between the waiter and the food runner, as my sister and I ordered one milkshake to split. However, when the food runner brought drinks out (which came after our food already arrived), he said he had two banana splits. After confirming that we had ordered the strawberry milkshake, he took one of the glasses, which was actually ours, as it turned out the milkshake was split between two glasses. When we brought the fact we only received half our order up to our waiter, he told us he’d take the milkshake off our bill, but the charge was still there after he swiped our card. At that point, we needed to leave and didn’t want to wait longer for them to come back and fix it. Overall, I had hopes that the dining experience would be a pleasant one, but left feeling irked and disappointed.
very cute diner, nice ambiance. unfortunately, i can't eat cuteness or ambiance. the food was 100% mediocre. i ordered a breakfast plate, husband ordered a Thanksgiving platter, and a pomegranate milkshake. The milkshake was a waste of money. the pomegranate flavor was so subtle that it may as well have been vanilla. My breakfast was not great. The waitress got my order wrong, she was NOT attentive. The waffle was dry, my eggs were overcooked in my opinion. My husband ate his dish but was not impressed. Next time we are in Truckee, we'll eat elsewhere. I would not recommend. As expensive as it is to eat out now, I regret stopping here. Not a good value at all.
We ate breakfast here on a Monday morning. The atmosphere is that of an old diner which was charming. The server was attentive and we were waited on quickly. Both of us ordered the crab cake eggs Benedict which had been featured on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives. This was also served with hashbrowns. Our food was warm at best, the hashbrowns definitely had not come off the griddle but seemed to have been sitting for a while as they were very chewy. The eggs Benedict was warm and the hollandaise sauce was broken. Overall food was very underwhelming. Maybe just a bad day ?
Wonderful old diner! Friendly staff. Bit slow getting our food. My friend had Huevos Rancheros which he said was quite good. I had classic Eggs Benedict which I only give 3 stars for because whatever the yellow sauce was, it wasn't Hollandaise. They did give me a generous amount of fresh lemon wedges to squeeze over it. The staff was so friendly, and the building so charming, that I would go back and also recommend it. But I wouldn't order Eggs Benedict again.
The vibes and aesthetics of Jax at the Tracks is quite awesome. The food is incredibly mediocre. We got the sexy chicken sandwich which was too dry or need some sauce, the cheesesteak was nothing to write home about, but the bowl of love and comfort was enjoyed by my friends. The beers however were not cold.
Hmmm disappointing?!? I was so excited to try this place based on the reviews. Not to mention how it boast that Guy visited, but disappointed!! We seemed to hit after the breakfast and before the lunch rush. The restaurant seemed to mostly be emptying out. I ordered the crabcake Benedict. Sadly, my Benedict came with an overcooked egg and a broken hollandaise thick sauce. If you’re going to pay $18 for a Benedict, these are two things that you definitely need to get right. If you cannot make a hollandaise, don’t serve a Benedict! We did also have the buffalo chicken sandwich and the flavor was very good on that. I was looking forward to trying a dessert or at least getting one to go however, the service was so bad. The waiter never came and checked on us and we never got refills on our $3.50 soda. Our drinks sat empty the entire time. The hype may not be worth the price for this one.

I had high hopes for this place based on the description. So much so that I tried them twice hoping to have a great experience. Results - disappointment. Interesting diner atmosphere inside with …
Went there because it was on Triple D. Service was poor. Staff was young and was more interested in visiting with friends and texting. Left water all over the table. Was out of many items. Food was…
I've been to this diner a few times. We use to like the yearly visit as this place was a must stop. Unfortunately, the experience has been consistently disappointing over the last 2 visits. The lack of enthusiasm and poor hospitality at the door set the tone for a lackluster visit. The young gal makes people wait outside for a lengthy time eventhough when I checked inside, there were 5 open booths ready to sit people. This appears to be a ploy to make the place seem busy. On our recent trip, we were seated promptly but never received the service we expected. We were not offered water or refills on water, the waiter never visited with us to check to see if we needed condiments or anything else. The decline in food quality is evident, especially with the dry and overcooked hamburgers. It's disheartening when a place that was once known for delicious burgers, eggs, waffles, salads, and sandwiches falls short. The malts, tea, and sodas were just okay, far from being described as delicious. The price for 3 burgers and fries and no drinks was $61.00. This meal was not worth it. While the malts, tea, and sodas are passable, it's clear that the charm and appeal of this diner are fading. Despite its long-standing presence, the overall experience feels like a has been dive. It's unfortunate to see a once-reliable spot lose its edge in both service and food quality.
I had Chicken Parm. Buddy had Steak and Eggs. Both were over cooked and not great. Service was slow to get drink order in and get drinks served. Place was about 55 degrees inside and everyone wearing a coat and hat. Just not a good experience.
Got there and had to wait even with the restaurant empty. We get to the table and it was dirty. Hostess wipes it off and leaves. We grabbed her rag and wiped it down ourselves as there was clearly still food all over the table and chairs. Bacon bloody mary was good. We got our appetizers after we got our meal. Burger was good. Crab Cake Sliders were mushy and undercooked with no crab flavor....very unappealing. The place was dirty. It was not busy and there was trash and food on the floor throughout and dirty tables just sitting. We won't be back.
This restaurant was disappointing. We stopped by a little before lunchtime and were seated right away, which was nice. Then we waited for 25 minutes for the server to come to take our drink and food orders. We waited another 25-30 minutes for our food to arrive and our cheese steak was overly salty and lacked substance. We couldn’t finish because it was so salty and didn’t want to wait another 20-30 minutes for them to make us something else. We chose to ask for our check when our food came so we didn’t have to wait another 20-30 minutes to pay.
I come here every time I come up here, and the food is always good! However. This time and the time before I was being swarmed by flies as I ate my food. Nothing more appatizing than seeing a fly land on my milkshake straw. Couldn't even focus on my delisous food cause I was so worried about swatting flies away. Really gross.
We ordered fettuccine Alfredo, grilled cheese with fries & house salad. The fettuccine was drowning in Alfredo, fries were almost burnt & house salad was all wilted & bad in the middle of the bed of salad. Daughter has upset stomach & diarrhea thanks to the Alfredo. Food was terrible, servers were nice.
The crab cake Benedict sounded amazing, but clearly the cook never prepared eggs Benedict before. The English muffin was whole (not split into two) and the egg yolks were hard. I should have sent it back but after waiting more than a half hour for my food I just decided to eat it. I would also add that in the winter this place is freezing cold. If you like eating breakfast ima winter jacket, this place is definitely for you! For me, I doubt that I will be returning here again.
This is the second time I've been here and both times it's been crap. Once in the winter and once in the summer. I tried giving them a second chance. Kids meals were ok, but no kids menu they " ran out" so I just googled it myself. Chicken tenders were very peppery for the kids. Steak and eggs was gross... eggs over cooked, steak like a piece of leather, hash browns refried and yet cold somehow. They comp'd the meal so I gave them an extra star and the server that helped us was fine but was the only server there.
I've been meaning to write this review since last month and keep forgetting. My husband and I came here for a late lunch, early dinner and had an absolutely terrible experience. I'd like to note that…

Was very disappointed in my meal experience here. My soda was flat, and nobody ever offered to refill it. The chicken strips were not strips, but thin breasts (milanesas), and the breading had no seasoning and was not crispy at all. The French fries were not fresh. No one checked back in on me after I got my food and the bill was placed on my table without any remark. I also had to change tables because the first table I sat at, I was being harassed by about five flies. The place itself is cute and in a great spot and it seems to me they are wasting a great opportunity. I would not come back here nor would I recommend it to anyone.
Whenever my family and me would visit Truckee we made sure to go to Jax at the Tracks for breakfast/lunch. Not anymore. Tables sat dirty for a while and some empty while people waited a long time to be seated. Everything seemed dirty and neglected. There was mold on the ceiling behind the dining counter. There were flies everywhere. I had to ask to have the dining counter cleaned because there was food all over it. The staff seemed to care less about the customers and had no personalities. We had to wait a long time to order. People around us were working together to get things they needed. They gave us no cream or sugar for coffee, no utensils, no refills on drinks, no check-in to see how the food tasted, and no bill until we hunted someone down. The servers seemed to be in no hurry at all. The prices on everything have doubled and the portions much smaller. The food came out and everything was cold and tasted cheap. There was an elderly lady that came in close to before we left and they ignored her. We warned people waiting for a table to consider going elsewhere. We hope we saved you some trouble of eating at this horrible place. Do yourself a favor and stay far away from this place. Super disappointing since we used to love this place. Management wake up and fix all the issues.
While this place is advertised as a dog friendly restaurant on many sites, it is not. They have an outdoor dining area and we have sat there with our pup before.
Server Colin C. took our order checked on the table right after we received our food then we did not see him again until he dropped off our check (20 minutes). All of our drinks were empty and no offer of a refill. My wife’s wings were cold and by the time he dropped the check everyone was done eating. This experience it’s not what I remember it used to be.
My heart is frowning that I have to resort to a Google review on a Truckee business Jax At The Tracks (formerly Andy's Diner). The pictures tell the story. First Pepsi - no carbonation; just syrup and water. The replacement Pepsi is delivered to the table by the cheery waitress stating, "Here you go! This ones much better!" - Again, no carbonation; just syrup and water. Restaurant grade frozen shoe string fries - undercooked and still firm and old on the inside. Chicken Hot Wings - again like the fries, restaurant grade small frozen wings. Undercooked and RAW! Imagine these being dropped at your table and you still have an appetite? Finally, the lettuce in the beef sliders was black in the veins and on the edges. The beef? Burned on the outside; undercooked on the inside. Yes, those sliders came right back out in the form of vomit! The good news? The cheery waitress removed the fries and wings from the bill. The not-so-good news? The manager didn't engage and did not offer to eat the bill. The bad news? After dropping the bill at the table, the cheery waitress refused to return to the table to collect payment for over 20 minutes; eventually a substitute showed up. It's a sad day in Truckee when a long time former resident/merchant is served up such a disgusting meal.
As you can see the place was empty during the last Truckee Thursday. We had a 45 minute wait to be seated. When we finally sat down outside, our party of three was ignored by the several wait staff laughing and joking with each other. We finally got the attention of one who stated that it was not his table. He got our waiter. Gregory came to our table and asked if he could start us off with drinks. We told him that in fact, we were ready to order pending one person's question about the menu .. he then said you aren't ready and I'm too busy for this. I asked if he would send someone to answer my question . Gregory just walked away. He came back out and stated that we could order but no one would have time to answer silly questions. We asked to talk to the supervisor. He said he supervised himself . We then went inside to talk to the woman who seated us and Gregory said to her that we always cause problems every time we came in and to not serve us. THIS WAS OUR FIRST TIME IN THE RESTAURANT. I had wanted to go there as I had seen it on Diners drive-ins and dives. I had just moved here. When I told that to the staff, Gregory said that I was a damned liar. As we walked out another patron was leaving and said that we had dodged a bullet as it was the worst meal he had in Truckee . We had a lovely meal at another restaurant. Jax lax so don't waste your time or money.
This DD&D featured restaurant seems to be resting on its laurels. The menu is large and seems interesting but is poorly executed and barely edible. The Belgian waffle was thick, dense, and full of unmixed pancake mix. The scrambled egg was cooked until brown and tough. The croissant was burned, and the sausage inside cold to the touch. The coffee was beyond stale. It would appear that the service staff are not professional. Sidework and clearing were an afterthought I would warn people away. I won't spend money there again
$100 for pure slop. My wife's chicken tenders were anything but, overcooked to the point of being unedible. I got the Kobe meatloaf which tasted okay but it was ice cold the vegetables tasted Frozen and were cold to the touch. My son got the roasted turkey and again everything on the plate felt as if it came out of the refrigerator. I have lived in Truckee for 4 years walking distance from Jax, everytime I eat there the food is cold. Im done with you Jax you have taken my money for the last time and I will tell everyone who will listen to never go there. I feel sorry for the tourist I see lined up in the mornings for breakfast I want to yell out the window GO TO THE SQUEEZE IN!!! At least their food is hot.
We went to the downtown Jax and had a very bad experience. When we arrived, we were told there was a 50-minute wait, which we accepted. Once seated, it took 30 minutes for someone to take our order, and another 30 minutes for the food to arrive. Almost 2 hours total for a coffee and Eggs Benedict. The eggs were not poached at all, they were basically hard-boiled, and the hollandaise sauce looked dry on top, not fresh. The worst part came shortly after eating: I had severe stomach cramps, bloating, and diarrhea. I felt extremely unwell and could barely move. This is the first time I’ve had such a strong and immediate reaction after eating such a simple dish. I do not recommend this restaurant. Long waits, poorly prepared food, and an experience that ended with serious stomach issues. Save your time and avoid it.
Breakfast experience — room for improvement I visited for breakfast and was not impressed. I can’t speak for the burgers, but the breakfast item I ordered—one of the menu’s featured dishes—was large yet felt like a mix of flavors that didn’t quite work together. That’s my personal opinion, and I understand others may see it differently. While some reviews are very critical, I believe this place has real potential to be great. A bit of refinement to the menu and a friendlier approach from the staff could make a big difference.
Cute little diner. Decent service. How this place was on DDD is beyond me. I had the turkey Jax melt with garlic truffle fries. The cheese was cold and not melted. The fries were good but missing garlic. My husband had the Thanksgiving sandwich with onion rings. The onion rings were good. The turkey was dry. The stuffing was glue like. And, he currently has food poisoning from it. Avoid this place.
