Stopping to see the ruins can be a daunting experience and you can feel overwhelmed! What a pleasure to find a place like Memories right there in the middle of all that craziness! Like coming home! It felt authentic and caring and friendly! Janet made us feel welcome and cared for in the middle of all the chaos! She chopped our ice cold coconuts, made us smoothies, perfectly seasoned tacos, introduced us to her family, showed us pictures of her grandmother up on the wall! She is the mama bear and I want to be one of her cubs. I may not stop for the ruins, but I will stop for excellent tacos and coconuts and more important, I will always stop for wonderful Memories! I come all the way from Vancouver Washington and we drive down to Bacalar and now we stop and have tacos and smoothies along the way.

A small, unpretentious canteen. The food is good, the drinks are pretty decent, and the service is friendly. Nothing amazing, but if you're exploring the ruins and trying to avoid breaking the bank on lunch, don't hesitate to step back a bit and grab a bite here!

I was surprised by the previous reviews too. It's an honest restaurant, serving decent home-style Mexican food, and the prices aren't excessive considering the location. The service is also adequate.

We just ate a few beef tacos here and took a rest from the heat. The service was good and the food was also pretty good. They charged more than I expected for some tacos but overall, not bad.

I don't understand the previous comments. The restaurant was empty at peak times; I should have been wary. We ordered four dishes, including overcooked meatballs swimming in a bland sauce, and enchiladas drowning in an overly spicy sauce. The chicken fajitas were good (mostly the chicken), the guacamole was good (hence the third star), but six tacos stuck on one plate wasn't enough. Since the owner balked at bringing us two small empty plates to share, I didn't dare ask for more tacos (next time I won't be shy!). We sent glasses back to the kitchen twice, so dirty that the leftovers from the previous meal were stuck to them. Exasperated, the owner finally replaced them with two plastic cups, without adding anything, but he charged us 30 pesos. The only downside: the large bottle of water costs 50 pesos. In short, if you need to hydrate, choose this restaurant. If you're looking for a friendly atmosphere, cleanliness, and tasty food, move on.
