A local favorite and go to whenever I'm in the area, I've never had a bad experience here and I've been coming here for a very long time. A huge selection, everything always hot and fresh and friendly staff I can't recommend this place enough

We have been going there between when they were across the street til now about 23 years . We look forward to our weekly outing there. We come all the way from Walton NY. We have no complaints about them what so ever. Except some people that mess up the food areas by spilling it all over when putting it in their plates .The girls who work there are friendly and always cheary .And as for the food it is top of the line .we spend a couple of hours there every weekend before we go shopping at Walmart We rate it 5 stars .

Awesome buffet with tons of good choices for your dining pleasure! Hibachi, sushi, seafood, salad, American fare....they have it all. Process are in line with any other buffet and the staff is usually friendly and efficient. They are decorated very nicely too with multiple fish tanks and a koi pond!

Highly recommend this buffet! We came from out of town and had never heard of the place. Our server was excellent! The kindest woman who went above and beyond. The food selection was great, fresh and flavorful unlike any buffet I've been to before. My only recommendation would be to add more dessert options, but ice cream sundae station is wonderful. Will definitely stop in every time we're in town!

This is the only Chinese buffet in the area. Their selection is large but my only complaint is like most Chinese buffets they throw the wonton directly into the hot broth which turns them into mush. I wish they would just do them like some of the better buffets places do and just put them on the side in a steam pan to keep them warm with out over cooking them and turning them into mush which is disgusting and tasteless. If they changed the wantons I would be more prone to be a regular customer rather than a once in a great while customer. They would also receive a much higher rating but it's the little things they overlook whichales them pricey for the subpar quality of things that could easily be fixed.

This caught us by surprise - it’s a smorgasbord! Dozens and dozens of options - curiosity got better of us and we had to ask the wait staff, they said it was more than 80 options. For the price (under $20 per person for dinner on a weekend!) it’s absolutely insane. Everything we tried was fresh and flavorful. Wish we had skipped lunch - I felt we did not do justice to the incredible effort the chefs put into the buffet. Tables after tables - appetizers, hibachi, seafood, chicken, beef, soups, desserts, ice cream - impossible to recollect. I loved the dim sums in particular.

another thanksgiving away from my family. so this is how my partner & i spent it. movies & then stopped here. my favorite was the pot roast & white rice. dont judge. but everything else was great as well. staff were nice & always checked on us for refills & things like that. its a good spot for next time we’re in town again

What a great deal with drinks included for an all you can eat buffet for under 20 bucks. Had a good selection of food from sushi, soups, salad bar, and hot food items so you can oink out. A very spacious dining hall. I liked their roast beef and went back for seconds because it was tender, juicy, and delicious. I maxed out with 3 plates, hot and sour soup, and finished off with a strawberry ice cream cup.

Man, what an experience Buffet Star is. Dinner price was only 16$ so I don’t know what you’d expect but we set out expectations low and we’re happily satisfied. The sushi is sub par BUT you’re at a 16$ Chinese buffet so it checks the box for me personally. It’s like eating the essence of sushi. The components are there but there’s no love but I’m not complaining because I loaded my plate up too many times to count. The fried shrimp were… fried shrimp. No surprises. Sweet and sour chicken was kinda dry but the sauce was alright and as a pair it was edible, wouldn’t waste my time with it again though. There were these weird meatballs idk what they were made of but they were super sweet and kinda strange if we’re being honest. Steamed mussels, clams, and shrimp all were at least cooked all the way but I’m not sure they were seasoned. The classic American Chinese dishes are all here: fried rice, lo mein, beef and broccoli, veggies, general tso yadda yada it’s all here and it’s all fine. I personally don’t think anything here is going the be the best that you’ve ever had but that’s not why you’re here. Overall I’d say this is a good place to spend a couple hours and 16$. If you want high quality, mind blowing food then either get your money up or eat at home. I AM HERE FOR QUANTITY NOT QUALITY. I AM HERE TO EAT UNTIL MY BODY HURTS. Do yourself a favor and get super blasted with your best pal before coming over, sit down, and eat until you can’t move. Enjoy the nautical decor, enjoy the screaming kids running around, and make sure to mix the chocolate pudding with their many flavors of ice cream. It’ll change your life. The food, service, and atmosphere individually are not perfect but together they make for a great experience. Enjoy pictures of our plates piled high with food. I came here after they reopened to see if it got any better and I would say it did right when you walk in it smells clean, all the food that is supposed to be hot is hot (same with cold food) their pork shishkabobs are literally to die for they bring a new tray of them out every 5 mins cause of how popular they are, their prices for a buffet are steep $20 for dinner per person but honestly not bad I would recommend if in area.

I always enjoy coming here with my kids, food is airways gray and they have wide selections, my youngest is a picky easter, but he can always find something he enjoys eating on the menu.

Reasonably priced, especially lunch menu for a buffet. Big selection, sushi is usually fresh. Staff is friendly and attentive. Nice atmosphere, very pretty in there. Ample space, big booths. Makes me sad with all the big koi in that small tank though. Food, depending on the time of day you go seems relatively fresh, tastes great. Doesn’t help with our Chinese food addiction, recommend .

General tso could have had a touch more flavor, Veggie lo mein was great. Food was as you'd expect with a buffet I guess. Bill came to 32 for 2 of us. The booth was my biggest issue. I'm not a large person and I literally had to scoot my butt out side ways just to get out. It was very narrow and I felt like I needed a booster seat to sit in it because the seat was low snd table was just a bit too high for it. This was my first time there and it didn't disappoint.

A well stocked and large variety buffet. A couple dishes were over cooked, but mostly tasted good. Server brought drinks quick but was a little slow to clear dirty dishes.

I've had better, and I've definitely had worse. For as big as this place seems on the outside they sure don't have a huge selection on the buffet offerings, I never even noticed the desserts.

I absolutely love this buffet, the food is amazing, workers are very nice, and apparently, I’m not the only one who thinks so. Some woman was so committed to getting in that she skipped the front door entirely and decided to install a drive-thru herself. You know what they say: “If you want something done right, do it yourself.” And she did. With her car. Through the wall. I was mid-sushi mission when the wall suddenly gave birth to a Subaru. Honestly, I’ve never seen such dedication to all-you-can-eat. My only complaint? The police said the drive-thru installation didn’t meet building codes and rudely made us all evacuate. Very inconsiderate.

My favorite asian buffet ever. I really used to visit this place several times during my stay at Binghamton. They have an awesome live counter, and I love the mei fun they have there. They have a various selection of desserts, cakes, puddings, salads, ice creams and they have nearly 10 varieties of chicken starters. Soup tastes delicious. There are several vegetarian options for the vegetarians too. Price is around 13$ per person with soda. They even have student discounts. The only thing is that the plates are little bit untidy.

This one is EASY! Very good buffet house. I started out to say 'excellent', but there's always room for improvement. My focus was sushi 🍣. It's listed as a main course. I love sushi! The Buffet Star's sushi offering was like buying sushi from Wegman's. There was no soul. No love. It wasn't fake, not gross (not the worst I've had), just missing something I can't identify. Be aware, we will go back here, just not for only sushi. They do serve hot saki, not bad either. Mrs King absolutely LOVED the rest of the buffet offering. With exception of the rice noodles, which were a few minutes short of al dente, this cuisine is to be applauded. The table service, excellent and friendly. We will return to the Buffet Star. I recommend it when you're in the mood for Asian delights!

They have quite a selection, but nothing is really tasty. I was there a couple of weeks ago with my husband and neither of us were impressed. It’s cheap and plentiful, you get what you pay for.

Quantity over quality. Wide variety of foods in a cafeteria-like setting. Overall, food quality is ok. If you're looking to expand your waistline, go for it! But if you're looking for higher quality Asian food at a similar price point, there are many other local options.

Overall they usually have quite good food and I remember when they were by staples and were so friendly and family owned and still served duck and crab. The only issue I have is when they completely forget about you and you have no room on your table because the plates haven’t been picked up and you don’t have any drink refills and then at the end you don’t feel you should have to tip for receiving no service or you plan to leave it on the table and they say “oh no you have to tip?” And force it on you. A tip is extra for good service. If it’s mandatory then they need to raise their prices, not say “oh no you have to also pay more on top of your meal”

I was dining with my autistic son Chris as a present for winning his special Olympics 110mH race! He loves the Mac and Cheese here. They need timers to limit the time food is sitting at the buffet. An example is the baked fish. It was as hard as rubber and couldn’t be cut without a knife. There’s a nice variety if freshness is maintained.

They have a big variety of (very Americanized) east Asian food and some country-style American food. For buffet food it's pretty good. The food mostly tastes relatively fresh, save for a few items (seaweed salad, mushroom salad, glazed banana) that tasted like they'd been sitting for a while, but nothing was bad. I tend to avoid the fruit bar, though - it seems like most of the fruit comes out of a can, and the pudding is pretty bland. Their basic sushi can be a little underwhelming, but the more complex rolls are good, and honestly all are better sushi than I'd expect from a buffet. From this visit, the dishes that I really enjoyed were the flounder with crab meat, shrimp cocktail, Japanese-style tofu, and egg custard. The staff is nice and they're very attentive with refilling drinks and taking away plates that you're done with. Some of them don't seem to speak English super well which might present a little bit of a language barrier, but nothing serious - someone I was with tried to order a drink that they didn't have and confused our waitress who didn't know what he was saying, but she called over another waitress who could understand and they sorted it out. I saw a few bowls with scrapes of food still in the corners at the buffet, and while the overall cleanliness of the place (besides the bowls) this time was okay, I've seen it looking a little dingy before. The interior design of the place is very cool - they've got a waterfall into a small koi pond, pagoda-like canopies over the salad station, a lighted floor in places, and the ceiling is painted to look like the sky. There are some elements of it that are very strange to me, though, like the glass (or plastic?) dividers that are filled with what looked like just crumpled paper, and the fish tank with absolutely nothing in it besides fish, not even pebbles in the bottom - it looked clean, but are you really supposed to keep fish in a bare tank like that? I also wish they'd do a better job of labelling the food at the buffet. Most items are labelled correctly, but there were a few with no labels or that were mixed up, or just confusing to figure out which label corresponded to which item. Anyone with any sort of dietary restriction can tell you what a headache it is to try and guess!

The buffet is ok. I wasn't blown away. My experience was sort of ruined when a bug flew out of my soup cup... :( Otherwise i had a decent meal. The staff is friendly. This place is just ok.

Best pizza in town! The crust has a great snap and crunch while at some points reaching creamy liquifaction. The cremated cheese adds notes of baby spit-up and creosote. The sauce further compliments with hints of tart freezer burn. It finishes best when paired with a dirty Diaper in the parking lot.

It was OK but I was a little confused as to why we were placed all the way in the back away from everyone else.... the waitress was on the phone and didn't look like she wanted to be there... the soup cups were thrown in a bin and you couldn't tell if they were clean or dirty. Reasonably priced dinner buffet at US$14.99. There are so many selections of food - soup, noodles, meat, seafood, dessert. They also have sushi and hibachi. Food was delicious. However the cups for the soup was not neatly organized instead they were stacked up in a plastic container near where the soups are. I initially thought that they were cups collected to be washed. Staff needs training on good customer service. The staff couldn't even answer a simple question like how much the buffet is when my sister asked and just ignored her and continued with their conversation. When I asked again, one just pointed on the price written on the message board which was the price for takeout. Luckily the host came back and we finally got an answer. Plates are immediately collected once done so that a new plate can be used when going back to the buffet counter which is good. Some of the clean plates though were not dried properly.

Stopped in and stood at the hostess stand for about 2 minutes while being ignored by numerous employees. They were busy but no excuse not to inquire have I been taken care of or not. I grabbed an employee to be seated and I was seated immediately. The restaurant was clean and not crowded, just busy. The food here is ok at best which is par for the course when it comes to buffet style restaurants... I found the food here to be unnecessarily greasy. Some of it was super dry or way too salty After 1 plate, my stomach was already bothering me so I waved the white flag.

BEWARE!!! DOUBLE CHECK YOUR BILL!!! We had a party of 8 just eat there (6 over 12yrs old and 2 under 8). We already anticipated the gratuity automatically being added; which it was for 15% @$21.51 to equal $174. What didn't make sense was the other line of "tip suggestion of $21.51 to equal $196 as if they didn't already add the gratuity into the bill that was originally $143+11 for taxes+21 (tip suggestion). I gave her $181 (the service was subpar) and the waitress started asking me "no tip?!?!?" Ummmmm yea your tip was the $21 plus the extra i gave, how are you trying to get an extra $21 from me for shitty service?!??! Food is typical, nothing special that would make me go back.

The food here was awful. It was bland, overly oily, and made me feel very gross. Even the sushi was neither appealing or tasty. The interior is nice, the staff is friendly, and they have a scoop your own ice cream station with like 12 flavors. They also have a hibachi station but we didn't try it. The unsweetened iced tea was good but wouldn't expect anything less from a Chinese buffet. Even the prices were great. All in all we probably won't be returning.

I wasn't originally going to write a review about this place because I didn't think they deserved that much of my energy. I was WRONG. I took my fiance on a date last night to this "restaurant". When we got to the location, it took about 5 min to be seated, which wasn't bad. Once we were seated, the host asked for our drink orders, and left to get our drinks. Also fine. We went to serve ourselves at the buffet stations and the selection was abysmal. At 720-ish in the evening with plenty of time that they would still be open. I gathered some things, he gathered some things, we returned to the table, as you do. The food was barely warm, the sushi was far too stale, as were many of the other food items. Coconut chicken and tempura chicken both CHEWY. Not fresh at all. The wait staff only came to check on us one time and that was in passing. She grabbed our still full plates and said "everything is good, yes?" When clearly we were leaving full plates of food for a reason. We thought well maybe it's a fluke. Went to retrieve something sweet to have as a dessert and found the same problem. Stale food that tastes and feels like it had been left out all day. When we discovered this we asked for the check. I paid with my cashapp card, and the total was $40.01. I did NOT leave a tip because both food and service were atrocious. I woke up this morning and Buffet Star has taken it upon themselves to add a $5.60 tip to my amount charged on my card!! Without my consent!! I have disputed this charge with cash app and I'm hoping it is resolved quickly. I've never felt so disrespected by a business in my life. -1000/10 DO NOT RECOMMEND. I was so put off when the waitress presumed that the balance amount was her tip and did not bring the change back. It is upto the client if they would like to pay a tip for the service rendered, which was lousy.

Will never go back there. My husband went with our kids and was charged the adult price for the kids. It was $68 for one adult and two kids. That is insane.

The food is AMAZING if it's fresh. If not, can be disappointing. The sushi is GREAT. The staff is adequate but often I find the plates are still dirty with old food edit: I came back today and the food was so bad I felt the need to revise my review to make it 1 star. Food was old and reheated. Staff was inattentive, never checked if I needed more water and I had to ask for my check when walking out. The price has gone up which would be fine IF the good was good. But it wasn’t. I won’t be back

Food was ok but a lot of the chicken was mushy. We also didn't like being rushed, my plate was taken before I finished and they stood waiting for us to sign the check. I won't be back

I was there all of my food was cold. The rice was so cold it was clumping together in a bring and also not to mention they tried to force a tip on me they were very rude and I am disgusted at the service form the waiter.

Attention: Charge tips twice !!!!! Pretty terrible, to be honest—probably the worst experience I’ve ever had. My friends and I went there after viewing a property nearby. They charged us a group gathering fee at a higher price, even though we were sitting separately. That alone was frustrating, but what made it worse was that during the meal, no one came to serve us. We had to clear the used plates ourselves just to make space on the table. Then, after the meal, they forced us to pay a tip and refused to let us leave. Eventually, one of my friends realized that a tip had already been automatically added when we entered—meaning they charged us twice. My friend immediately called the police, and only then did they finally allow us to leave.

Food did not fit my expectations what I had was over cooked and dry,,shrimp were to big and chewy..I won't go back and would not recommend.

Have to change my review because this is a health hazard. Used to love this restaurant and I come here very frequently. But I was very disgusted by what I found eating here new years eve. When walking by the sushi a roach ran out from behind the counter where the food was served. I called it out to the waitress and she ran smashed it with her bare hands and picked it up. We left right after. Something needs to change.

Food was okay! Water was given dirty and the response was really rude! had to request several times to get a fresh glass of water, but didn’t complaint because I was on a date with my wife! Worst thing was the comment in chinese language on my face after I gave a deliberate small tip! I actually wanted to confront at that point. They lost a loyal customer due to their lack of people skill.

While at dinner on October 7th 2023 I found a broccoli worm in my food. I brought the whole entire plate up front and the manager/owner was called over. She said sorry that happened sometimes with the broccoli because of the vendor. They took my plate off the bill but not the rest of the party. This was after I'd already finished two plates of food. I'm also 8 months pregnant. When we went up front to pay the other portion of the bill, my husband asked me where broccoli was, to which I pointed out the area and he went over and checked and none of the food had been pulled. If you have eaten there lately, I pray that you did not have worms in your food as well.

Bad service and BAD PEOPLE!!! They charged me the price of dinner during lunch and asked for a tip. Outrageous and dishonest!

they honestly should of stayed closed. got food poisoning over the weekend trying this buffet out after reopening. The obvious answer is, they are still cooking expired and old can food and meats. The waitress I had begged for a tip before i even finished my first plate & the manager is legit horrible. she is never happy about a in person complaint. They are very much for the money and not quality and integrity of what they do. Stop feeding people anything!

Got Diarrhea Passed by Binghamton, went to the buffet with three friends, had a great time there. After about 20 minutes, me and other two friends got diarrhea. I don’t think it’s just a coincidence.

DO NOT COME TO BUFFET STAR. They will overcharge you for a tip if you don't tip enough. We had a bad experience with them yesterday because most of the food was dry or not cooked enough. The fried chicken on the stick was dry and not tender at all. The fried chicken had yellow on the chicken deeper inside. The bacon on the crab was raw. The fries were too soft and raw as if they needed ten more minutes to fry. The staff was very nice about getting you refills, but that's it. They kept looking from a distance to see if you tipped. The total of the meal was 58.72$ including tax on the receipt, but the total purchase came up to 62.72$ because we only tipped a dollar in cash. Going to stop coming here because it was never this bad before.

Absolutely changed! The food was cold and raw- pink chicken $54 lunch I had a Chinese cookie 🤣 won’t be back showed the chicken to manager still charged me full price . Simply won’t be coming back.

Restaurant moderately busy on Saturday night at 7:50 p.m. They were out of many items. Staff said, it was because, it was busy. Not true! They were tearing everything down and cleaning. Not making new food. Everything was Ice cold. There was nothing in the steam section, little to no sushi and lots of empty items. If they are going to start cleaning up between 8:00 and 8:30 when they're open till 9:30. They should not be charging $20 per person. This was very disappointing. Will not be returning and they don't care. I mentioned this to the cashier and the excuse was, busy tonight, busy tonight. Charged me about $23 for absolutely nothing. Customer services are not existent at these buffets.

Stopped here while in the area , walked in place was pretty busy. The food station is small considering how big the place is and how many people were in it. The food station was also low on food and very messy and dirty there was food spilled all over the place from everyone serving themselves which is expected at a buffet but should be cleaned constantly after people use, the food trays were almost empty and were not refilled even though it was 2 hours before closing the place was still busy and should have had fresh food refilled in the buffet area, not cold sitting food. The place also goes upon themselves to leave themselves a 5$ tip if you decide not to tip even if you mark 0$ tip on the receipt, meanwhile they don’t serve you or anything you serve yourself so why would you tip? Anyways the food was absolutely terrible , unsanitary place and very bad tasting food and a terrible selection for a buffet. Do not recommend going here at all. I will be contacting my bank to dispute the charge because I did not authorize them to charge a 5$ tip separate charge from my bill.

On 08/17/25, I took my partner to lunch for his birthday. Upon getting ready to cash out , I asked the young male for two senior citizens discount, as I always do each time we go to lunch there. He started to holler at one of the young female servers in front of everyone, and proceeded to ask are ages, which I told him, one 64, and one 65. He told us you have to be 65 or older to get a discount In a very rude manner.I told him we never had any problems before getting our discounts. He replied because the girls don't know what their doing, and they don't understand English. Well If that's the case, then how are they able to take orders from customers. I also remember the same guy, last year, taking a couple behind us to a table, when we were first in line. I think this young guy is the son of the owner's. My partner and I have been going to the Star Buffet for years, eating there two to three times a month. But this last time was a complete turn off. Star buffet just lost two of it's loyal customers, because of his aditude.

They need to clean their shrimp before serving to the public. Takes 2 seconds and goes along way. Here's a pic to show you how and what needs to be done.

I'm another case of food poisoning from here. Talking terrible coming out both ends keep waking up to run to the bathroom kind of torture that had me considering going to the hospital. Also what the other reviews say about rude staff and not the best food is true.

If you don’t get food poisoning from here then you have a stomach of steel. That’s not the only thing to be cautious of, because not only will the servers scream in your face to tip them, they will enter unauthorized amounts and pocket your money hoping you don’t realize it on your credit card statement. Too bad for them they have to pay chargeback fees each time they try doing this which just costs them more. Must suck being a failing business.

So… I’ve been going here for years. Recently just stopped by with family to eat on a Friday night. The food was out so long it was hard. The service was okay. Kind, but the rest was disgusting. My whole family spent the night throwing everything back up. I will never go here again.

First time visited. So many negatives at this place First of all they need to focus on cleanliness, place is dirty , no hygiene, even restroom also. Staff don’t know the basic English , , don’t know how to talk with customers, yelling all over the place. Without even asking taking away the plates and no proper cutlery Ice cream section is damn dirty, placed bowls in sink which customers usually take to serve ice creams They have lots of varieties but with lots n lots of oil. Just OIL They have specific figures for tipping. Overall I feel professionalism is lacking here

Around 9/15/2025, I came in to eat. Had a bunch of sushi. Didn't get to puking, did get other effects. Can't tell anyone to go here, the food isn't safe. Needs immediate and serious remediation. Usually the food is pretty good, and the variety is impressive. It's a shame too, the place is nice, BUT, the batch sizes on sushi are too high I think. Got me sick, got my family sick (Took my mom since I had a good time last time.). Pretty bummed out. Not a lot of buffets around anymore, especially good ones. This one was pretty good, but unfortunately, my experience points that it may be generally unsafe. They were closed for health violations a short time ago, and I don't think they have been rigorous in their improvements.
