We randomly walked into this restaurant, we had boti fry it was amazing. I had boti fry after longtime and then we had biriyani it wasn’t like Hyderabadi dum biriyani but if you are from chennai / costal andhra you might have tasted it. Highly recommended.
I can specifically mention , the best mutton soup in Dallas, and the 65 chicken biryani was so good. Definitely A must try , had an amazing experience.
had an outstanding dining experience at Salem RR Biriyani in Plano! The food was absolutely authentic, flavorful, and truly reminded me of home. Every dish was perfectly cooked with rich spices and fresh ingredients. A special shout-out to Shiva, who made our visit exceptional. His warm welcome, polite attitude, and genuine hospitality stood out from the moment we walked in. He patiently took our order, ensured everything was served just the way we wanted, and checked on us frequently with a friendly smile. His service elevated the whole experience and made our meal even more enjoyable. If you’re in Plano and craving real Tamil-style biriyani and great service, Salem RR Biriyani is a must-visit! Highly recommended! 🍽️🔥
The food was absolutely delicious and fresh. The flavors were well balanced and everything was cooked perfectly. The presentation was neat and appealing. The portion size was good for the price. The service was quick and the staff shiva were friendly and polite. The ambiance was clean and comfortable, making it a great place to enjoy a meal. Overall, I had a great experience and would definitely recommend this place. Looking forward to visiting again!
Absolutely loved this biryani. The authentic Madras-style flavor really stands out — rich spices, perfectly cooked rice, and meat that’s tender and well-marinated. You can taste the traditional South Indian touch in every bite, not oily, not bland, just balanced and flavorful. Portion size is generous, aroma is amazing, and it feels like a true homemade Chennai-style biryani, not the usual commercial version. If you enjoy real South Indian biryani with depth and spice, this place is a must-try. Will definitely come back again! 🔥🍗🍚
We visited Dallas from Ohio. We were looking for some authentic biriyani and tamilnadu style food because I personally like seeraga samba rice biriyani than the basmati rice (hyderabadi style) biriyani. As my cousin's suggested, we tried Salem RR Biriyani in Plano, Texas. Their website says, 100% safe and healthy, premium ingredients, no storage meat, no instant masalas. Yes they mean it! Have tried so many restaurants in US in this 10 years, but Salem RR is truly amazing. The masalas were made in home and u can realize it because It was not so heavy after eating, felt like home made food! Tried all their parotta varieties, it was so good. Crispy and soft. Coin parotta was my favorite! Vegetarian food was also good. Gopi 65 was my favourite! Their bucket biriyani has good quantity, with complimentary chicken 65, salna, raita and payasam! It was definitely worth trying! I will miss Texas and in top 3 reasons, Salem RR will be one!😊
I really like this place. The food is authentic, the staff is friendly, and the atmosphere is cozy. We went for lunch over the Thanksgiving holidays and tried the chicken soup, chicken 65, goat liver fry, mutton biryani, and parotta with chicken curry. Everything tasted great. This Tamil restaurant in Dallas proves that it’s not about flashy presentation or artificial colors, it’s all about real taste and flavor.
First time visiting here and we’re definitely going back! Server, Shivagiri, was funny and engaging and guided us with selections. Dishes are richly spicy in the South Indian style – quite authentic! Standout was Elai Kottu, which had a parotta + omelet + chicken curry (mutton also available) layered, then wrapped in a banana leaf. Came with delicious raita and gravy. Idiyappam, a comparative rarity in DFW restaurants, was cooked to order and fabulous. We saw many items on the menu we would like to try on our next visit, which will be very soon.
Wow, easy 5 stars, such great flavors and very authentic. No wonder they ‘ve garnered such high no of positive reviews. Thanks to Shiva, the manager who took great care of us at this Plano location. “You would never have had such a good chicken 65”, he taunted as we placed the order. Never had seen such confidence before, but they still had to deliver, I thought. And they sure did. Everything we ordered was sooo good, and felt just like home. Will be back to try more! Salem special chicken biryani 10/10 Chicken 65 appetizer 10/10 Panchu Parotta 9/10
Went here last Sat for the first time. Had panchu parotta with mutton curry combo and a chicken biryani. Biryani was basmati TN style. It had the right amount of spices and quite flavorful. The panchu parotta was very good, and it paired well with the mutton curry. The service is very attentive. Live parotta station is good. The restaurant had a nice vibe, like dining in TN. If they keep the prices down and maintained the quality, they will do very well in the face of stiff competition in the DFW area.
I really liked the bun parotta it had a comforting feel and the salan was delicious. The payasam was great too. Personally, I think that the chicken rasam soup could have been less spicy but everything else was definately perfect. Also If you are bringing your kids here I want to say that the food has extremely low spice in it . The experience was amazing and the food too. I would definately recomend it 👍
Shiva helped us and he was great! This Southern Indian Food is an absolute gem! Every dish bursts with authentic flavors that taste just like they came straight from South India. The dosas are perfectly crisp, the chutneys are fresh and vibrant, and the sambar has the rich, comforting depth you only find with true home-style cooking. The staff are incredibly welcoming and ensure you feel right at home. If you're craving genuine Southern Indian cuisine, this place is unbeatable. Highly recommended!
The food was very good. It was hot and fresh. I ordered the Gobi 65 and the Paneer Biriyani, it was very very good. The only dish we finished was the Paneer Butter Masala and parotta combo. It was sumptuous , buttery, flavorful and delicious. Shiva was great with his service. Will definitely visit again.
Visited on a Thursday night, and to my surprise, they even had live parotta being made on the spot. Honestly, what can beat a freshly prepared, soft parotta paired with hot, flavorful salna? The taste was amazing and set the tone for the rest of the meal. We followed it up with their RR Special Biryani, and the masala was mild, balanced, and just perfect—not overwhelming, yet full of flavor. Despite having half a biryani, two parottas, and an omelette, the meal felt surprisingly light, which speaks volumes about the quality of ingredients and cooking. Overall, it’s a must-try and definitely a go-to place if you’re craving authentic South Indian food. The service was quick, the ambiance was warm, and the food felt genuinely homely. Highly recommended!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolutely Delicious Authentic South Indian Non-Veg Feast! If you’re a true biryani lover or someone who appreciates rich South Indian flavors, Salem RR is a must-visit! I recently tried their Chicken Biryani, Chicken Kari Parotta, and Mutton Chukka, and every dish was bursting with authentic Tamil Nadu-style taste and aroma. The Chicken Biryani was exceptional — flavorful, perfectly spiced, and cooked with fragrant basmati rice that carried the essence of traditional Salem-style masala. The chicken pieces were tender, juicy, and soaked up all the biryani spices beautifully. What stood out most was the balance — not too oily, not too heavy, yet incredibly satisfying with every bite. The Chicken Kari Parotta was a real showstopper! The flaky, layered parotta paired with spicy, thick chicken gravy was pure comfort food. The kari had that homely, rustic touch with the right blend of pepper, curry leaves, and masala that hits the spot for anyone craving a hearty South Indian meal. And the Mutton Chukka — wow! This dish truly captured the authentic Chettinad-style flavor. The mutton was cooked to perfection — soft, well-marinated, and coated with a dry, roasted masala that was rich and full-bodied. The combination of spices and texture made it one of the best chukka preparations I’ve had in a long time. The restaurant itself is clean and welcoming, with quick service and a warm, down-to-earth vibe. The staff were courteous and made sure the food was served hot and fresh. Portion sizes are generous, and the prices are quite reasonable for the quality and quantity you get. Overall, Salem RR delivers an authentic South Indian non-veg dining experience that’s hard to find elsewhere. If you crave real flavors, not the watered-down versions you often get in city restaurants, this place will make you come back again and again. Highly recommended for biryani and spicy food lovers!
Absolutely loved the food here. Tried this place on our way home to Houston and are glad we picked this place for lunch. Sambar was awesome, parottas were perfect, fish fry was good and chicken biriyani was just right. Will certainly be back for more on our next visit to Dallas/Plano area. New place so there were some teething issues with service but when food is this good you overlook those. Owner of the place was very accommodating and kind. Thank you for an awesome lunch!!
The taste was speechless and flavorful. I had fish fry and chicken 65 as a starter. The chicken was juicy and the masala that they were using was made in a traditional way. You can easily understand the flavor of the masala was homemade. Coming to biryani I had chicken biryani and seeragasamba mutton biryani. I am definitely speechless with the taste of the biryani. That was absolutely awesome. The people were so kind and helpful. They welcome us with heartful of smile.
We had Mutton briyani at this Salem RR and it’s absolutely delicious. Taste very good and definitely it’s 10/10. Mutton pieces are also cooked very well and I had the same taste of when I had the mutton Biriyani in Chennai RR Biriyani shop. Chicken 65 is another fantastic dish with the mutton Biriyani. Tried Parota and it’s an another fantastic item. Since they told that it’s a live parota and tried it. Parota and the grey was a top notch . I would definitely say like it’s a must try one here.
Went on a weekday, Ambience looks good with Indian look and vibe. There is not much crowded jut we and a couple of them was there. Food tastes like India. Prime location. Easy to drive. All the menu options are good. Onething is Whatever I asked the server said we are out of stock or not available.
Service and atmosphere were good, but the mutton biryani was very disappointing. It tasted like plain rice mixed with mutton—no flavor, no aroma, nothing like real biryani. Definitely not what I expected.
I’m a Chennai native and very familiar with authentic Salem RR biryani. Unfortunately, this location did not meet expectations. The mutton biryani tasted more like Thalappakatti style, while the chicken biryani, though made with basmati rice, tasted like plain masala rice, lacking the authentic Salem RR flavor. When a restaurant uses a well-known brand name, I naturally expect the original taste and style, which was missing here. Portion size was another major letdown. Salem RR is famous in Chennai for large, satisfying portions, but here the quantity was very small for the high price. The chicken 65 was extremely dry, and finding curry leaves mixed into the chicken basmati biryani felt unusual and out of place for this style. Overall, this place does not live up to the Salem RR name. As someone who truly knows the authentic Salem RR taste, I was totally disappointed.
