Great place and will definitely go again when we go back to visit our daughter. Everything was delicious and I loved the tres leches cake. It was the best I had in a while from restaurant. Very cute place and so glad we gave it a try. Next time with bring the kids with with to try it out.
This is an odd review. Of ALL the restaurants with stairs of any kind, the few stairs needed to walk into the bar area, these are PERFECTLY aligned for the human step. I liked the atmosphere, open and inviting. I don’t know Spanish but the music was uplifting. We shared a meal that was perfect for 2 of us. A definite Tex-Mex style restaurant. I pray I C E stays the heck out. We will return.
Hands down one of the best chicken burritos I've ever experienced. Pollo Adobo Dorato, to be specific. Coated in red sauce, with some fresh hot sauce to boot and a little crema fresca. Omg. So good. We also got a Vegetarian Mexican Pizza, I'm told it was one of the best ever. But I never made it that far. Chips and salsa for the table was also outstanding and FRESH!! Staff was great, things moved quickly but we never felt rushed. We did book a table about 30 min before we got there. Not a bad idea on busy nights as there aren't a ton of tables, especially for larger parties. If I'm ever in the area again, I'll def be back.
My husband and I went to dinner on a Friday night and, yes, the music was a little too loud. However, we enjoyed the festive vibe and just accepted the fact that we would have to talk a little louder than we normally do. The signature guacamole was the best guacamole I have ever had, and my carne asada tacos were delicious. The steak was tender, and it came out without cilantro and with jalapenos added, as I requested. The cherry margarita was more cherry than tequila but still really good. We're looking forward to returning someday!
Came to Albany for a show and only had about 45 minutes to eat beforehand after wasting 30 minutes at another nearby restaurant waiting for bar service that never came. We were sat quickly outside and our server understood that we were pressed for time and brought everything out quickly but didn’t feel rushed. I had the fish sandwich which was one of the best I’ve ever had and my friend loved her shrimp quesadilla. We also had the chips and guacamole which had the cutest presentation and was very fresh. Lively yet laid back vibe. Highly recommend and hope to get to stop here again and spend more time!
In my opinion; this place is one of Albany,s best kept (hopefully NOT a secret) because the first time I went; with a friend, we had drinks and a sampler of two types of guac, queso, and salsa with bangin tortilla chips... I knew I needed to come back to try food from the menu... So... Wife and I went on black Friday for lunch and please trust me - we were not disappointed at ALLLL... Must try!!! Left a couple of pics (My wife's tacos and my vege burrito) absolutely scrumptious!!
I am obsessed with Ama Cocina. Their food is amazing. I’ve gotten the birria quesadilla multiple times now and every time it’s equally phenomenal. Their margs are delicious and the guac fresh huge portion. Tacos were all delicious, fish are my favorite. Happy hour is the best!! I’ll come here anytime I need a perfect Mexican meal. One of the best Albany restaurants ❤️
Had to try this place!! I never went to the original so I can't compare it but hands down the best tortila chips I ever had!! Pretry much a la carte. The service was great, attentive and friendly. The margaritas were delicious. The birria tacos, quesadilla and fried chicken burrito were all very good. The rice was a little undercooked. Definitely will be returning!
I had a great Valentine’s Day meal at Ama Cocina. It is one of the best Mexican restaurants in Albany in my opinion. I recommend getting the pitcher of margarita for the table. You can choose between a few different kinds, we decided to go with the strawberry. The pitcher came with free chips and salsa as well, which I think is a great idea. Between the two of us we both had four margaritas and had to get an Uber home but it was such a great time! Our waitress brought over a new glass with ice and sugar rims every time we went through a margarita. I was very impressed with the service and the attention to detail we received from the staff. The guacamole and queso was delicious and I would definitely get it again when I go back. The tacos were all good but I have to admit the barbacoa was my favorite one. It had a great flavor to it that I never had before. I can’t wait to go back. Thanks!
Stopped by for a quick dinner and it was a great experience. We didn’t have reservations but they were able to accommodate us immediately. We had the street corn (absolutely amazing), empanadas with queso (also delicious), carne asada tacos (great flavor, steak cooked perfectly) and the chorizo burrito covered with salsa verde. Everything came out quick and was nothing short of tasty/flavorful. Ended the night with some hibiscus margaritas! I only wish the tacos had a second tortilla- it was so yummy but the taco ripped from the steak juices and sauce lol so delicious though. I’ll be back next time I’m in town.
Great Mexican food. The burrito was stuffed full and my daughter loved it. My wife got the Mexican Pizza. It had a really interesting flavor that she wasn't sure of at first but after a few bites loved it. I got the fajitas and they were excellent. We can't wait to go back and try more. Btw, very reasonable price.
A true and authentic Mexican street food joint with American flaire. Outside and inside seating right outside of Pearl St in Albany. While the tacos were a bit pricier than. I would have liked, the taste and flavor combinations made it worth every penny. Try the duck tacos, they will blow your socks off and get yourself a side of street corn, and a bottle of Coca-Cola from Mexico.
Making a new review because I accidentally placed the wrong review on this restaurant, it was meant for somewhere else close by. My apologies for that. This place had really good vibes and everyone was nice. The music was good and the environment was alive compared to other spots. The decor was really nice too! It's funny that the service was slow here as well, but I think it's just an Albany thing. The food took a while to come out but once it did, it was delicious! The corn was the highlight of the meal!
Nice food and not expensive. Try the chicken and tortilla soup, next soup I had in my life. When I finished mine I had to eat my friend's too. Cool decoration albeit not Mexican, and friendly staff. We were a group of 7 and we had a take booked online, however the place was half empty on s Fri night so I don't think reservations are needed.
