Love this place can’t wait to get back here!!! Mmm my mouth is watering just thinking about it. Omg the chicken mushroom congee and the lotus was my fave wowwww. Next time gonna book this private room that has karaoke!!! Ugh love it here. 新年快乐,恭喜发财
Been in NYC 12 years and this was my old go-to for college gatherings. Came back after 4–5 years and the taste is still spot on! Lively Chinatown vibe, great for groups (~$40pp). Crispy squab: crunchy skin, juicy meat Ginger scallion fish: fresh, perfectly cooked Garlic string beans: fragrant but a bit salty Pork liver & lean pork congee: rich and comforting Half garlic chicken: big portion, good texture Still my comfort food pick over newer Cantonese spots.
The food is 100% authentic. It feels like I am back to china the moment I stepped into the restaurant. Definitely will come again. I would recommend the sautéed silver fish and dried squid with Chinese celery. It is so crispy and well seasoned. Perfect dish to go with a beer.
9/10 Congee Village delivers a flavorful and satisfying dining experience. The dishes were packed with delicious Asian spices, and everything—from the main plates to the soups—tasted great. Generous portion sizes and a warm, lively atmosphere make it a great spot for a hearty, authentic meal in Chinatown.
Love coming here on a chilly day and getting their congee. Pictured here is their lobster congee, it’s absolutely delicious. Thick, creamy, and hot. Service is always welcoming, and the decor is amazing. I feel like I’m in the rain forest and it adds to the whole experience. Love this place!
Congee Village is our favorite place to order homestyle Cantonese food. Well prepared, generous portions and delicious meal at good prices. The lunch specials are available all day and the best deals on the menu. Extensive entree items served over rice. Our favorites are beef with broccoli, curry chicken, spare ribs with Chinese greens, and pork chops. Our favorite entrees are T Bone steak, house special fried chicken, clams in black bean sauce. Dont forget to order white rice which does not come with entrees. Congee Village, great Cantonese!
As a Chinese person, this is exactly what hits the spot when you’re missing home food. The best dish is the sweet and sour pork. The beef and rice roll casserole is also excellent - the beef is very tender. The service is kind and food comes out very quickly. You cannot go wrong by coming here!
I came here for a friend's birthday dinner and we had an amazing time. The interior of the restaurant is spacious and I love the cozy but very Chinese decor. Our waitress was so nice, easy to talk to, and fun. The service was really quick. We ordered hot and sour soup, peking pork, string beans, honey walnut shrimp, beef chow fun, short ribs, beef stew and radish casserole, and salted fish and eggplant casserole. Everything was delicious. My favorites were their peking pork, string bean, and casserole dishes. The honey walnut shrimp was good but the portions were okay for a group of 9. The beef chow fun was a great portion but I wish there was more flavor. Loved the short rib. They gave us complimentary watermelon at the end, as well as birthday flan for my friends and I. Had a great time and I think this is the perfect spot for some casual Chinese food with a big group of people (We got 10 dishes and the total ended up being only $240, post-tax for a group of 9! We all left STUFFED).
Congee Village is my go-to spot in Manhattan for comfort food! Their congee is always delicious with so many options to choose from. The service is fast and friendly, and I absolutely love their homemade hot sauce—it’s the best! A must-visit if you’re craving authentic, flavorful Chinese food. The staffs are so nice and friendly
I love coming here so much !! Their eponymous congees are so delicious and inexpensive (<$8 for anything in this economy?) and the bustling atmosphere (coupled with authentically brusque service) is a wonderful complement to the yummy food. The restaurant itself is surprisingly large - lots of large tables suitable for hosting large groups and hallway of private rooms when you really need to go all out (and apparently at least one of them is equipped with karaoke, although I haven't had the chance to try it yet haha). Some food highlights - - cantonese sweet pancake: undescriptive name aside, this is actually SO delicious -- I order it every time I eat here. the lightly sweet filling and the coconut flavour go so well with the crispy pancake wrapper - we always wolf this down in an instant - congee (obviously). I've tried the pork/preserved egg congee (classic), sampan congee, and mixed veggie congee. I love the pork/preserved egg one the most: not too thick or too watery, juicy and flavourful pork, and filling portion sizes. The sampan congee was a bit of a miss - hard to chew meat with lots of rubbery tendon + bland fish. Also a warning for any fellow cilantro-haters: they add cilantro as a garnish on top of the congee (!!) - scallion pancakes: generic, but tasty. I like that they were thin and crispy (a lot of Chinese restaurants in the US make them wayyy too thick for my taste) - xiaolongbao ("small juicy bun in shanghai style"): the wrappers were thick and broke easily. the fillings / broth were passable at best, not very flavourful - stewed pork with preserved vegetables: the pork slices were tasty -- savoury and tender, although definitely saltier and oilier than I would have liked. The preserved veggies that the pork sat on were *really* oily (soaking up all the oil at the bottom of the bowl) and kind of bland otherwise Price point is super solid for the quality and portion sizes, and while I'm not sure if I'd come here for general Chinese/Cantonese cuisine, their congees are hard to beat in NYC - and I'll definitely be back often :)
Food was great value for the price!!! Fried squid was a bit too oily so won’t order it next time. Supposed to be salt pepper fried squid but could not taste the pepper. Salted fish fried rice was oily too and no taste of the salted fish. Other dishes were yummy and portions were large enough! Service was attentive and waiters had a good attitude for a Sunday evening! Atmosphere was peaceful but it would be better with some background music! Overall it is good, I would stay away from the fried dishes as they are too oily.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Congee Village in Chinatown, New York, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warm hospitality and immediately served a comforting pot of tea, which set the tone for the rest of the evening. The food was simply outstanding. Each dish was bursting with flavors that were both rich and delicate, surprising me, especially since I’m not usually a big fan of Chinese cuisine. Congee Village truly changed my perspective. The variety and quality of the dishes we tried were remarkable – everything tasted incredibly fresh and well-prepared. One of the highlights of our meal was the value for money. We were a group of eight, and the portions were impressively large, yet the prices were unbelievably affordable. It’s rare to find such a great combination of quality and quantity at such reasonable prices in New York City. I highly recommend Congee Village to anyone looking for an authentic and delicious Chinese dining experience. Whether you’re a fan of Chinese food or just curious, this place is worth a visit. I’ll definitely be returning!

We have been going here for many years. A big restaurant with many small rooms to accommodate large parties. Food is good. Staff is nice. Moderately clean facilities. Reasonably priced. Always crowded at night and on the weekends. Get this needs a try if you’re in the area we will definitely be going back.. Thank you to the owner for responding. You have a great and unique business. We look forward to patronizing your establishment again soon. ESJ
Consistently great Cantonese style dishes in a vibrant atmosphere. Been serving the Chinatown community for decades now and withstood the test of time because they continue to serve great quality family style dishes. I took away one star because they “forgot” our steak order somehow. The menu is expensive, and honestly you cannot go wrong with any item. But the classics and our favorite is always the fried squid and assortment of congees for its namesake! Be sure to make a reservation if you have a big party- you can even request for private room ( some with karaoke) if you meet the required minimum spending. Walking in during prime time lunch means a wait for sure. The place gets super loud and packed so be prepared to yell at each other to converse. All in all, a must try/go to restaurant in Chinatown!
Congee Village is a good option for a family-style banquet, offering a wide range of dishes that match the flavors you’d expect from Chinatown classics, and in some cases, edge just a bit higher for some dishes and not so much for others. The menu has enough variety to satisfy everyone at the table while still feeling rooted in tradition. They’re known for their congee, so it was a must-order, and it absolutely lived up to the reputation. Rich, comforting, and deeply flavorful, it’s easily one of the best bowls of congee I’ve had. The space is clean and comfortable, and while the service was just okay, the food portions, value and congee make up for it. If you’re craving classic Chinese comfort food with a standout congee program, Congee Village is worth the stop
Food is decent, tastes the same as other Chinese eateries. Service was alright, they were busy and when we ask for something we had to ask multiple times to get it. We had to wait like 15 minutes for the receipt to come out after we asked. Atmosphere was alright, the decors and stuff were decent. I would say though the price is pretty high much higher than other places that would get you about the same thing. It’s recommended that you reserve a table if you have a large group of people and it’s for dinner time as lots of people come here.
I visited Congee Village recently, and it felt like a nostalgic trip back to the classic Chinese seafood restaurants I grew up with. The atmosphere stood out with old wood décor, bamboo menus on the wall, dim lanterns, and Hong Kong music in the background. It really captured an authentic servicescape, though the lighting was a bit too dark for my taste. Service was efficient and casual. We were seated right away, tea arrived without being asked (cultural norm to be asked), and our server confidently suggested dishes like 梅菜扣肉 with rice and 京都骨. I appreciated their product knowledge. Food was solid overall; the congee and vegetables met expectations, though the meat leaned a little sweet. A service recovery moment impressed me. A nearby guest had an order mix-up, and the staff quickly resolved it, even anticipating her need for a metal spoon. That responsiveness showed care. Overall, Congee Village delivered what I expected: reliable food, authentic vibe, and laid-back service. It’s more of a casual spot than a special-occasion place, but it’s consistent. I’d come back someday.
A quick stop while we were out and hungry last 10pm. We got duck congee, seafood and soft tofu, and seafood fried rice. Despite us arriving with a little over an hour before close, all came out fresh and tasty. Service was impersonal but quick, which is to be expected. Good congee outside the home is a rarity, and with a Taiwanese member of our family being very picky about regional cuisine, I'm glad this spot is here to satisfy her craving when there's not time for us to cook ourselves!
