Avis sur Douska Albee Square
TLDR: Bangin’ sushi deals (esp. the crispy rice sushi) Had a great time with da boys many moons ago at Douska. Got one of the hand roll sets, which was really good, but my world was changed when we ordered the crispy rice sushi.
Has become a go to spot for me. Their crispy rice is great, so are the hand rolls, and the 6 hand roll set is very reasonably priced. They are very knowledgeable and accommodating of gluten free.
We are a family of four with me and my wife having the Omakase and our teenage kids having assorted rolls. The fish for the omakase were fresh and tasty. I'd suggest to eat as is and not add any sauce. The kids assorted sushi was good, especially with the crispy rice roll. I guess crispy rice roll is the hype now. A bit pricey but good to splurge on the road.
It was my first time having an omakase and I’m happy I had it at Douska. Even though it’s a cheap omakase the service is at another level. If it’s crowded it may take a while for your order to be delivered but it’s quite efficient. The food is amazing, tastes really good and it’s quite fresh.
I ordered take out from this restaurant, and I think it was one of the most decent sushi take outs I’ve ordered so far. It was a bit pricey but it was very tasty and arrived in 45 mins. I actually really enjoyed the wagyu uni piece and the crispy rice with seared salmon. I wasn’t a huge fan of the toro but that’s my personal taste. In general high quality food.
small and quaint place for hand rolls! i ordered the Douzo set and every roll was delicious. all the fish was so fresh. yellowtail, scallop and toro were my favorites. by the last roll i was full, since these handsrolls are a decent size and the balance of rice to fish was perfect. i will back again and again! thank you!
What a great find. Luke was our server. He had tables inside and outside the restaurant including the bar area. He was attentive and fantastic. The sushi chefs were amazing as they continuously worked patiently and gracefully without skipping a beat throughout the evening. The sushi was delicious and the sake we ordered, Brooklyn Kura paired so elegantly with every dish. The restaurant is located on busy Delancey Street, but well worth the experience.
The handroll sets are delicious and served fresh course by course! I walk by this spot in my neighborhood almost every day and didn’t even realize it was a restaurant because you can’t really see inside from the street. But I’m glad I stumbled upon it because the food was fantastic! Will definitely be coming back
Amazing sushi, in an average setting. Walking up to the space, couldn't tell if it was open; but to be expected in the LES sometimes. Inside was tastefully designed. Sat at the sushi bar and was able to see them preparing our meal. Started with a great sake and the tuna pizza, which was delicious with the Truffle drizzle. The Tamaki platter was excellent with a do it yourself type of kit. Sushi rice, nori, and 9 types of fish to enjoy whatever way you like. Sushi was fresh and of the highest caliber. Wow what a dining experience! Great place we came upon for lunch. This little restaurant has both indoor and outdoor dining with a very calming and modern interior eastern design. The food was delightful and presentation was great. Service was excellent. Time flew as we enjoyed our hand rolls being served. Your food does not come out all at once but instead served one course at a time. The ingredients were fresh and delicious and the hot matcha green tea hit the spot. You won’t regret eating here!
Douzo/Douska is awesome! Glad there's a great local sushi spot in the LES. Chef Koji offers a nice selection of hand rolls & gunkan style sushi options. His Omakase is always my favorite, mixed with classic nigiri, gunkan nigiri & finished with a handroll. His miso soup also changes seasonally.
We had the omakase which was super good! We were able to ask them to leave out a specific fish which was so accommodating. Chill vibe, playing west coast 90s/aughts bangers, and attentive and quick service. They have a big sake selection with descriptions, so it was easy to choose something new that was awesome.
The sushi is excellent. Some of the best I have had in nyc. The hostess / waitresses are not that great. They make you feel like you are inconveniencing them when you order or ask for anything. I’ve been twice now and had the exact same experience
I really wanted to like this place more than I did. It’s a very hole in the wall, no frills sushi and hand roll restaurant. We had a reservation on a Friday night for 2 people. We arrived and had to wait in this awkward hallway area for a couple of minutes before just asking if we could sit at the bar. It took a very long time for someone to take our order. We ordered the crispy rice, tuna crudo, and a couple omakase sets. The crispy rice was my favorite and also the most affordable. The quality of all the food itself was very good but the slow service and uninviting atmosphere made this experience unpleasant.
Cute restaurant decorated with some Japanese skateboards. Tried the yellowtail (picture not included), snapper, Hokkaido scallop, Toro takuwan, and Hokkaido uni temaki. Favorites were the Toro and uni. All the rolls were freshly made in front of me by the sushi chef. Fish was fresh and of higher quality than most other sushi places. The rice was warm and the nori was crunchy. Only wished the rice was more flavorful and closer to room temp, but that may be personal preference. A delicious and filling lunch nonetheless.
came in here to use the restroom but i at least wanted to buy smth to be a paying customer. cheapest item was edamame $7, so we went with that. we tried asking about other menu items but they didn’t understand so we were left to google as an answer. when we went to order a hand roll we were told we’re supposed to to order before 10pm.. it says douska after hours 10pm-2am. it was overall confusing. then when going to pay the lady said it was a 10$ minimum.. everyone knows they make that up for their tax cut, and nowhere did it say on a sign that theres a minimum with card. luckily we had cash but they missed out on the opportunity of a tip.. why have an item for 7$ if its a 10$ minimum? just make it 10$ lol. took pics to show that nowhere does it say a minimum. staff was nice but if there was more clarification then it would be a better experience. even for the edamame i asked what it comes with, he said salt and its sweet sugar?
