The waiter walks through every single menu item on the chalkboard which is impressive. All the food item we got was solid. Lively atmosphere.

The atmosphere feels warm and welcoming, but still elevated enough for a nice night out. Everything we ordered was solid, especially the gnocchi. The staff were very friendly and welcoming.

Pretty much proves how irrelevant social media influence has become. Sure, three years ago this was The Place, but I promise it’s as good if not better now, even if you’re not hearing about it. Perfect French Bistro - beautiful ambience, exceptional service, and, most importantly, impeccable food. Everything from the bread with salted butter and anchovies, to the drinks (best old fashioned we’ve had in recent months, plus a great wine list). The duck two ways, the salmon with the most incredible cabbage side, the sausage- all wonderful. Dessert: chocolate mousse or rice pudding- both were generous portions and hard to resist. The service was so great too which included a complimentary digestif. Better make your reservations before word gets out. This is the best French spot in NYC right now.

Delicious food and great service. The Duck was delicious. They serve the breast and the leg part separately with the latter oven backed with mashed potatoes. Wine list was rich and reasonably priced. I had chocolate mousse for desert and was excellent. Service at the bar was very friendly. I would go again .

Had a lovely birthday dinner here. I was running terribly late and they took such good care of my husband while he was waiting...lovely food, terrific service, a delightful, old-fashioned (in the best possible way) experience. No rushing, the perfect amount of checking in and a table visit from the owner to wish me a happy birthday. Delightful. Looking forward to visiting the owner's newest place, Chateau Royale.

Bar seat with Eric driving the boat. Expert wine selection for me. Anchovies were served warm which was lovely. Tomato salad perfectly ripe. Duck with foie gras was divine. Spacious. Lovely experience.

Amazing french restaurant in the west village. The duck was perfectly crispy and tender— I personally could’ve done without the sauce that comes with it. But I liked how they do the duck two ways with the mash that accompanies the main. The saucise was very good— a tad salty tho but very good overall. However, the star of the show was the salade maison. Kisses to whoever made that salad. perfectly crisp, perfect herbage, perfect salt level.

NEW CHEF ALERT!! We heard Chef Matt took over Libertine and made a trek to try the food — and it was INCREDIBLE! The Duck Deux Facons is a perfect combination of comfort and refined and could easily be split by two who don’t bring their hunger. But for anyone with an appetite I couldn’t more highly recommend the Gnocchi Parisienne, tartare de boeuf and pommes dauphine. We also got the seasonal tomato salad special which was to die for, for anyone reading this review shortly after written. For dessert we got the chocolate mousse and it didn’t disappoint. The manager, Trent, was incredibly welcoming and friendly as was our waiter, Matt. 10/10 experience — we’ll be back soon!

I had a lovely lunch here on a Saturday afternoon. I walked in by myself and was able to snag a table right away. The lunch menu is rather limited in a good way. They stick to what I would consider to be Parisian lunch classics. I ordered the croque monsieur and let me tell you….it truly rivals any of them I had in Paris. I would argue it was better. The bread was perfectly buttery and flaky and the proportions of all the ingredients were so well-balanced. My server took good care of me and made sure my drinks were always full. As far as the interior, I appreciate how spaced out the tables are. They didn’t try to just cram as many spots as they could into the restaurant. The owner was the one seating customers. I always note that. Libertine is one of the best lunch spots I’ve been to in a while. I will have to come back for dinner sometime.

Chalkboard menus bereft of adjectives add to the experience as they enable waiters to have a real discussion about food with the people at the table. Their service team relishes this & takes full advantage - it works. Libertines cooking is great. The classics are as well executed and flavour forward as you could hope. The wine list is creative and interesting, the room itself well arranged and quite beautiful - unlike in French bistros, there’s actually room to breathe. Don’t skip bread and butter, in fact go further and actually visit butter mountain in the kitchen. Highlights were the scallop & the near famous duck. The steak tartare had all the balance you’d want with great textures - the chocolate mousse was a chartreuse infused outrageous decadence. Personally I’d skip the much celebrated eggs mayo, unless you have a particular connection to that combo. Our server, (I think his name was nick) deserves special praise - great care and attention, very generous in spirit - a wonderful host. Will return. An easy 5 stars.

Excellent French food. The duck and the beef tartar both had a very complex flavor. The chocolate mousse was to die for, and the portion was generous. Service was a bit slow, and the place was pretty loud.

A classic French bistro with an elevated twist. I cannot say enough about the service here- they were so sweet to us and the food was incredible. We only got the gnocci Parisien and the poulet a la creme to share, but both sauces were absolute GOLD and executed perfectly. The roast chicken was elevated into a gorgeous and thoughtful plate with the chicken two ways. I will say it’s expensive but we can’t wait to come back as a treat!!

We dined here on Saturday night with our kids. What a delicious and wonderful dining experience. We can’t get any French food of this caliber in Toronto. My kids loved the gnocchi and they’re usually picky. The scallop appetizer was also incredible. The sausage and mashed potatoes was so simple but so good. The duck two ways was executed so well! Every dish we had was so good. The service was top notch. It was such a cute local spot. We would love to go back when we are in New York next!

Had a lovely experience at this new West Village restaurant. Our favorite dish was the chocolate mousse although everything else we ate was fabulous. We had the scallop and seaweed, steak tartare, gnocchi and the sausage. Flavors were excellent and drinks were on point. The martini was served with the olives in a tiny ice bath on the side! We did notice a large gap between when the appetizers and entrees were served and the restaurant was very loud. It's a scene but with the food to back it up.

Libertine is really a special place, and a welcome addition to the New York food scene. The vibe and service are comfortable and friendly. This is a restaurant you want to be at and stay at. The food is spectacular, and new. Not the traditional French bistro fare but something beyond that, more special. The duck two ways is phenomenal, and Chef Max's lamb dish is something everyone should have at least once in their lives. The wine list is as expansive as it is interesting. Cody and the staff are incredibly gracious and knowledgeable. Definitely save room for dessert.

This place is amazing! The decor and service are sublime perfection. But it’s the food that steals the show. The scallop and seaweed could possibly be the best dish I have ever eaten. Ever. The lobster chou farci, monkfish and gnocchi were dreamy too. The place was PACKED at 6 pm. Every table was full and the bar was buzzing. What an exciting addition to the NY restaurant scene. Reservations are booking weeks ago. I’m So glad we jumped on it.

Cool bistro atmosphere and great wine list. The experience was more or less as expected but they could do better with service and food. Server did not mention that the halibut had a creamy sauce, even though I said I was passing in another dish because it had heavy cream. Bread in bread basket, which you have to pay for, was chewy. step up!

French bistro style food with prices on the higher end. They have their menu on a blackboard which is charming at first but the prices can be quite striking, especially when you actually start to get the portions. The egg mayonnaise is completely not worth it, and the tartare is interesting but virtually four or five bites. The duck is really the star of the meal and it’s executed well enough that I’m willing to accept it’s worth the price tag but it’s still a painfully high price. Desserts are irreverent but tasty which I actually did enjoy. I guess it’s a good spot if you can stomach the bill!

I want to give this retro style French bistro 5 ⭐️ but it slightly missed the target 🎯 across the board. Don’t get me wrong. I do recommend it tho. The chalkboard menu selection is top notch and exemplifies a beautiful range of French classics. The scallop & seaweed was delightful but left me searching for one more spoonful. The oeuf & mayo (egg & mayo) seemed promising based off the reviews but was lackluster and without pizazz. Not very flavorful TBH. I do have to say that the duck “two ways” was truly the highlight! Gorgeously prepared and decadently delicious, this entree made the day! Go with friends, enjoy martinis and have a great time! Not OTT but worth the trip.

I had dinner at libertine on a Saturday night. The restaurant was full and we got a table in the middle of the restaurant in front of the entrance. Our table was 2 tiny bistro tables stuck together with the most uncomfortable chairs I ever sat on. I understand it's "Parisian bistro" style but couldn't hurt to make thing a bit more comfortable. The food I ordered was dissapointing to me. The Gougères laked flavor but the lamb sauce was hyper salty. The dessert, rice pudding was good along with the wine selection.

I rarely write reviews, but my experience at Libertine was disappointing enough that I feel compelled to share it. When we arrived, we were told the restaurant was “committed for the night,” despite the fact that nearly half the dining room was visibly empty. We mentioned we actually had a reservation in 45 minutes and were told, rather dismissively, that we’d be seen “in 45.” When we returned, the same empty tables remained untouched yet we were seated at a four-top in the center of the restaurant, even though there were several far more comfortable, available options. When we politely asked if we could move, we were told no without any explanation. When our server came over, we mentioned that the hostess had been quite rude, hoping for some understanding. Instead, he immediately defended her, saying she was “dealing with a very busy West Village restaurant,” and told us to “be nice to her.” It was a stunning lack of professionalism we hadn’t been unkind, simply honest about how we’d been treated. After that exchange, the hostess came over again and made the situation so uncomfortable that we decided to leave before even ordering. It’s unfortunate, because the space itself is lovely and I had eaten here once before. But the experience left us feeling unwelcome and embarrassed and that’s not the kind of energy any restaurant, especially one in such a competitive neighborhood, should be putting out.

I'm in the neighborhood and haven't been there in a while. Don't bother! My fish ( halibut was tasty)but cold . I told the barkeep. He was very happy to replace it but instead they put it in a microwave! Not eatable and they still charged me . I heard it changed owners and chefs and my recommendation is they train their kitchen and front house better! I'll never return which is a shame since I love supporting my local places.
