Feels so good to be back and eat inside a restaurant. Cafe rio has always been one of my family’s favorites, but today James made it extra special with his customer service. Thanks guys!

This Laguna Niguel Cafe Rio was the nicest cleanest friendliest one I have been to yet!
Excited to find a Cafe Rio here! Clean, bright, cheerful, delicious! I recommend the horchata.
Excellent service and delicious food. So glad it is finally in my own backyard.
Great new location. Service was really good and the food was amazing as always.
Nacho Friday's... My Favorite!
The daily specials are a good deal, and the mint lemonade is great.
The place is great !! Julia will take good care of you !! She’s great
Thanks for a nice service Valentino :D✌️
Our favorite location in OC. Super nice service, clean, consistent.
Always a good experience. Great tacos. Super staff.
I’m in love with their HUGE salads. Their Tres Leches is a must have too
Awesome food! Friendly, quick and a great experience!!!!
Amazing crew. That's why I always come to Cafe Rio.
Had an amazing experience with their curbside pickup. They were so quick after I pressed the “I’m here” button that I thought there was no way my food was the food being brought out but it was. Amazing service!!
This place is AMAZING. I can't say enough good things. We use to Postmate it from Lake Forest and now it's across the street!! We eat here at least twice a week. Very Californian, Orange County Mexican food. Healthy. Not greasy. FANTASTIC.
Super friendly staff, the lady in the register was smiling and super helpful. She was super busy but still acknowledged me and was so cheerful
Always fresh good food. On Tuesday they have a good Taco Tuesday as well with option to make a meal with sides and drink for cheap. Good horchata and other drinks as well.
We usually get the salad and keep coming back for more. Shredded chicken is our favorite but miss the salmon they had pre-covid on Fridays. Hope they bring that back soon.
The food was great and the workers were awesome, super friendly and great customer service! Witnessed a difficult person in front of me and the lady at the register was super nice dealing with her.
This is the best Cafe Rio around this entire area, cleaner and the food is better.
They remember me and how i like my tacos. Some really great people work here!
Kevin, Rebecca, and Dennis did a great job keeping the place clean, quick service, and cheerful attitudes. Thanks guys. Happy new year! 🎆
Your quesadilla is filling and tasty: a little goes along way! 😋😸
Fantastic barbacoa tacos, and really accommodating when we want to meet with larger groups after church. Very friendly staff, and clean restaurant
I’m a employee here i like the salad, nachos they are good. The sweet pork, steak are my favorite.
Great visit! Food was great. Staff was fast and courteous. Utensil station needs a visit. But great overall 🙌🏽
My family and I were there today because today is my birthday and we were given the best customer service and we will return . My family and I recommend this Cafe Rio Mexican Grill
Great manager great service
WOW what a burrito! One of the best tasting and biggest burritos ever!!! I had the carné asada.
I got the salad but passed on the guac. Then I found out it was included with the salad!!! They were very kind and generous with it! So yummy
We come here at least once a week cause my oldest son likes the food. As vegetarians, we go with the salad. Compared a few other Cafe Rios we've been to, the food here has been the most consistent. I recommend the salad with black beans, rice, cheese on tortilla, and everything on it.
I go to Cafe Rio often and in the last few months I've gone to this location the most. The food is consistently good and so is the service. I almost always get the salad. I always recommend this place to others
I've never eaten here before tonight. My girlfriend took me on her birthday and spoke high praise. The location before was a sharkies and wasn't very good. But with the new company taking over the space, nothing but amazing. The food is fresh, made right infront of you. Safety precautions taken with masks, and screens to keep the food safe. It's a amazingly good meal for a quick cafeteria style eatery. The service however, is above and beyond. The staff welcomed me in song as a new customer. They congratulated my girlfriend in her birthday. Took care of everything quickly, happily, and very friendly. Special thanks to Tyler. At the end of the order he helped us out taking care of a minor problem. And he even brought my girlfriend a special dessert for her birthday to the table. Thank for a wonderful meal. Will recommend to friends and family to come.
Great staff. Work together as a team!!
Good Mexican build your own burritos, tacos salads etc at a good price. Nice spacious location, friendly employees and fresh ingredients used so that you can eat in or take out. No drive through. Appreciated that the menu has calories listed.
I like the food but I can't get their coupons to work when ordering in the app. I should have included that I showed the coupon when I picked up each of my orders and both times they adjusted my charge, but as of yet nobody has responded with directions for getting the app to deduct the coupon amount. I'd rather not order in the store at this time and having to walk into the restaurant, get someone's attention and wait for the adjustment to be completed is frustrating and defeats the contactless and curbside pickup's objective.
The food is fresh and tasty. The staff is helpful, and the store is well-maintained.
Nice team, friendly, fast and fresh vegetarian options. The blond with glasses that was fit was very helpful and the cashier kind. Thank you! Please get vegan options!
These guys rock!! Everytime we come here for their Taco Tuesdays they're always helpful, respectful and very very professional. James the manager is always making sure everything is perfect here. And the staff cooks cashiers are always busy either taking care of their responsibilities or walking around cleaning and handling business. Love this place!!
Been coming here multiple times per week for years. Everyone is awesome, always friendly, they remember what I get and how I like it. Grew up on cafe rio in Utah so having one out here is awesome.
Went to lake forest ,different menu no more shredded beef ,no more daily special drinks machine down So came here happy tonreport they still have shredded beef specials , drink machine was working Needles tonsay this location was also had triple the customerss
Really polite staff, clean kitchen and delicious food. We had a great lunch there after protesting on 10/18 for No King's Day!
I love this place so much, worker is great, service alway good, but they no longer service in this area, it is sad.
I tried Cafe Rio a few months ago and went back last week with a friend and we loved our food so much that I took another friend today, while the other friend keeps asking me to go there with her. The food is just amazing and we feel like we are eating healthy and are happy about it. And we absolutely love it. :)
Love the sweet pork! We visit on every trip to Las Vegas. I wish they would open in Illinois.
The best fast Mexican did ever! Wayyyyy better than Chipotle. Obsessed!
Some of the best non-authentic Mexican chain restaurants out there. A little more expensive than regular Mexican fast food chains like Del Taco or Taco Bell, but you definitely get what you pay for. Huge portions, I go here instead of Chipotle because they have a lot more options.

Food was good but I wish they had more vegetarian options
Had Great Food and Service. Would gladly eat there again.
Good food. Better than chipotle. But won't give you extra rice to bean.
Liked it, the staff was nice and funny. However by the time I got home I noticed they overcharged me by $5.
The food is freshly cooked to order and great customer service.
Typical experience you’d expect. We went later after the lunch rush and service was fairly quick. Tried the new pollo asado and wasn’t a huge fan, was a little too sweet for my liking.
I've been in twice and order the grilled chicken salad. It's a little pricey but quite delicious. I'll be back again. Maybe I'll try something different this time? Try it out, you won't be sorry.
I'd give it a 5 but the line gets a little to hectic and trying to order while you've got a crowd of people behind you can be a little challenging. The food and service are both excellent though.
This place closed as of 12/10/2025.
Great food, able to tailor ingredients to what you like. Could use more staff at lunchtime.
Only got queso and chips but they were tasty as hell. I will say I HATE when they ask me if I want to tip at the end. Like I have been standing this whole time? What service am I paying for? Hate tipping culture in general for that matter. But the food was good none the less.
This place has a huge dinning room. I understand it is slow due to covid. I used to manage a Cafe Rio so I have a little insight. Managers, coach your crew to either change the bowls or clean off the dried sauce.
Fresh healthy food that tastes great. This restaurant makes Taco Bell and Del Taco so jelly! Sign up for Rio's app and generate credits for their food in record time. They have daily specials from Mon - Fri.
The food is the best quality of the Rios I’ve been to, but the staff has consistently been a deterrent. From wildly inappropriate comments to appearing dead inside and completely ignoring their surroundings, the staff need some help. Whether that’s a livable wage, or to be treated like humans by the surrounding residents, they need help. But the food is still really good tho.

I was excited to try. But unfortunately my pork nachos came with no meat. So $11 dollars for chips and beans .... kinda upset but it was curb pickup and didn't even think about checking to see if my order even had meat...

Never been a fan of this concept, we gave it another try but it just doesn't taste like Mexican food at all
Now here's a Cafe Rio that was so perfectly average that I can't even muster the energy to write any more about it. This is a high compliment to Cafe Rio.
The pork is always fantastic here, however I've been here multiple times and the tortilla is always incredibly undercooked.
Their oven was broken so there was no "grilled" meat. Their shredded chicken was okay, very salty and not a lot of other flavor. There was a puddle of water on the floor with a cone blocking it and the ice in the soda machine was like shaved ice.
I really enjoy the enchiladas and the tortilla soup, and my son likes the tacos. But I have the damnedest time trying to get a correct order. The last couple of times we ordered delivery, my son's order arrived without the rice and black beans we'd requested. On the app we add all kinds of ingredients we want, and it's a crap shoot which ones are actually included. I decided today we would go in to the restaurant too order so that we could watch our food being made, which would surely lead to a more accurate order. We got to make a couple of corrections, but after I got home I realized that instead of having one beef and one chicken enchilada as I had asked for, I instead received one beef and one pork enchilada. I have no idea how that happened when I was standing right there. I mean, there was also a little bit of chicken in my pork enchilada, so maybe I turned and missed the pork being added? Unclear. In addition, my son is vegetarian and gets the tacos veggie style, but we went there so that he could customize the ingredients and leave the beans out this time. First of all, she asked him, "What kind of meat do you want?" When we said, "No meat, veggie," she immediately grabbed two tortillas and put some rice and black beans on them and stuck them on the grill. If she had first asked him what kind of beans he wanted, she'd have known that he did not want beans this time. Instead we told her and then she had to put that order aside and make a new one. They were nice people, but I wish that they would ask more questions and listen and pay better attention to the ingredients that are ordered there and in the app. We really like their ingredients, just would like to be able to get the order as we ask for it, which doesn't seem to be possible at this time. I also ordered tortilla soup. She immediately put chicken in it without asking me what I wanted (fortunately, it was indeed chicken). I also asked for a little rice and beans in my soup, and she said she could do that but it would cost more. I was skeptical because that's not the case in the app, but I just told her to leave it out rather than taking the chance of being overcharged for something that is given for free If ordered in the app. In summary, somehow visiting the store to order was NOT more helpful than ordering in the app, as it turned out. I guess I will have to go back to ordering my food in the app, and then checking it very, very carefully before I leave the store with it.

It was okay, all the meat was dry and overcooked, the queso pretty bland and runny.
I was feeling chipper so tried this place on impulse the other night. I won't be back. This is the most depressing place. The staff seems absolutely sad and miserable. I don't need phony cheerfulness, but the somber mood was palpable. It was like being at a funeral. By the time my food was prepared, my chipper mood was gone. The food was fair. The pico de gallo is very wet so the taco tortilla was soaked through. The bottom fell out of my first taco. My second taco felt like glue. Kind of nasty and messy.
I didn't care for their food (flavor, presentation, quantity), or service. It's not authentic mexican food, (no corn torrillas)a cross between Chipotle and Taco Bell.
Well folks, ...that didn't take long. Looks like another Aliso restaurant location headed on its way out. I've been eating here on a regular basis for the last couple of months, and wrote a review singing praises to this location. But low and behold, it was indeed short lived. I just ate there today, and their $5 tacos that I eat on a regular basis got downsized to half their normal size, with a much smaller and thinner tortilla, along with less ingredients while the price stayed the same. Ouch! The only reason for making such a move is profit margins. Therefore, if the profit margins are so severe that they cut the portions in half while charging the same price, ...well then, it must be getting close to closing the doors. That's too bad. This was my favorite new taco joint, and making a move like this just drove me away as a regular customer. No warning, just BAM! ...half the food, same price! Geez!
HORRIBLE burrito wrap. Tortilla was extremely thin and couldn't hold the loaded burrito, feel apart SECONDS after it was in my hands. Messiest, laziest burrito and I paid $20 for it. Ridiculous! Ingredients not well mixed throughout, very disappointed.
Never using them again for office lunches. It's very difficult to get in touch w/the local store that we order from. "Customer Service" is NOT helpful. Small revisions to an order cannot be accommodated on the delivery apps that I have used. They forgot an entire lunch for one of my executives and includes a drink that belonged to NOONE. Extremely frustrated.
Don’t come after 8pm, they’re always out of all meats except basic chicken/pork… Too lazy to refresh salsa, guacamole, etc. They only care about money. Frankly embarrassing.

FILTHY! Now I love eating at Café Rio, but this particular one was disgusting! The floors were really dirty, filthy, and not mop, or only halfway mopped with clear foot prints all over the place We looked for a clean table to sit at, But we saw crumbs on all the tables. And there was even a attendant in the dining room they're supposed to clean stuff but clearly somebody was not doing their job. When we were ordering our food, it was very clear that the food had been sitting there for many hours, and was getting all dried up. What shocked me was that I saw an employee hop up and just sit on the prep table chatting with another employee, this shocked me, and this was in plain view of the dining room. What employee does that? Talk about a health code violation. In the bathroom there was left over toilet seat covers, so gross ! When I went to go get drinks, I noticed that the punch circulators were not operating, how long was everything just sitting there stagnant? I had to turn the switch on and then the refrigeration started up, so was everything lukewarm? One of the exit doors was locked, that's a fire code violation It's very obvious that the management is not properly training their employees well, and the overall restaurant is dirty and not kept up to proper standards.
I’ve been a Cafe Rio customer for years and order from this location probably 3-4 times per month for our family. Today, I ordered my normal tostada salad and was eating it when I bit down on something hard. I spit it out and discovered it was a piece of pottery. This is so unacceptable. I can still feel where my tooth bit down on it and will probably need to go to the dentist. I’ve reached out to the company via their survey but I felt others should be aware of this issue as well. My hope is that the company would take care of this issue starting with giving me a full refund of my order.
This location is no longer open. Google refuses to remove it or mark it as closed. But it says so on the Cafe Rio site that this location has closed down. Which sucks because this was my favorite cafe rio in this area.

They got basically my whole order wrong and left out most of the sides
I don't know if they change chefs all the time, but the soup is so salty that it can't be eaten.
The worst food ever how people eat here. Just quick service but Missy
Low quality food for an expensive price with very rude employees. The employees were all arguing and shouting at each other while I was trying to order. You would think that a restaurant should train its employees to maintain social distance but two employees trying to order their own food were standing within a half foot of me giving me no personal space in normal times let alone during a pandemic. They poured black bean juice all over my quesadilla which made the already flavorless meat and cheese just a gross soggy mess. This is just a chipotle rip off that costs more with lower standards and rude employees. Save yourself some heartache and some money and drive across the shopping center to get some chipotle instead.
Terrible service at Aliso viejo location, we were told to pay for our order on our phone to take advantage of a deal. We followed the cashiers instructions, paid and then she told us to go pick up the food at the lakeforest location. Our order unfortunately was also not accurate.
Went last night at 6:05 and they were closed! Called corporate this morning and she said, yea some stores do that! Why post hours if they don’t keep them?
The food bar is always so gross they never clean and refill pans during the day and it looks like they never cleans the kitchen at night. ITS DISGUSTING!
Not up to par with other locations. Wet sogy meat, small portions, and very dirty inside. Do yourself a favor and drive to the one in El Toro.
It’s the only cafe rio i did not like! The sweet pork and chicken do not have a cafe rio flavor. So bummed.
Definitely DO NOT recommend ordering for pick up. I ended up standing there waiting for my order for an HOUR. They only focused on the in store line which I understand but my order was supposed to be ready at 6:30 and people that had walked in and got in line at 7:00 still ended up getting their food made before me. I asked a couple times if my food was almost ready and they just said almost and that they were understaffed. I completely understand that but people who got there after even for mobile pick up as well got helped before me and even when there were multiple times when there was no one left in line I still didn’t receive my food. I even had customers in shock come up to me and tell me they couldn’t believe I was still waiting because all of them came in after me, ordered, sat down and ate all before I got my food.
Be careful when you order for delivery or pickup. They are known to put less item in you order, why? I don't know. I had to return the entire delivery in person after waiting for one hour for delivery. I had already paid for delivery fees and tips. First they wanted to give me the missing items but after I told them I'd call the credit card company, they replaced the cold foods with fresh items. Never any issues with other restaurants. Hope they get their act together or else their reviews will drop to less than 3.
I really want to like this place. The food is really good but the service is always really bad. Going through the line is very clunky and the employees aren't friendly. My partner won't go in with me anymore so I decided to just order online. I signed up for an account and they sent me an offer. Cool expect it doesn't work. I've tried 3 different days to place an online order and every time it gives an error. It does it in the most annoying way possible and clears out your cart making additional attempts a real hassle! It's almost like they don't want you to order from them.
I will not be going back to this location ever again. I'll drive the extra 7-8 miles to go to El Toro. Every single time I go here the pork is terrible, my burrito is tiny and today the tortilla was definitely not fresh/hand made like at the other one. That is one of the biggest reasons cafe Rio stands out and at this location it is a complete misrepresentation of the franchise.
While ordering my husband had a hard time hearing what the server was saying. After he asked if she could please repeat what she said he was told that he would have to pay more attention. Then at the register he was told the card wouldn’t go thru unless there was a tip included. This twerp behind the counter needs to check herself. This is a close community and word gets around on how customers are treated. Way too many better places to eat like Chipotle’s. Oh, and the order was wrong on top of the rude service.
I've never really written reviews before but I'm a long time Rio fan, 15+ years, and I've never had worse food than from this specific location, the Aliso Viejo Town Center. There used to be absolutely dreadful employees too, and thankfully some of them are gone, which is good. I go for Taco Tuesdays, and I really can't fathom why but the meat here specifically is awful. The El Toro location (which also had some awful employees but some great ones too) makes much better tacos, and I can't figure out why. I've had family pick up tacos from both places different weeks so I don't know which is from where and it's instantly recognizable which taco is from where, you don't even have to taste it! The pork specifically. They manage to get 0 sauce and 0 flavor, I don't even know how its possible but it doesn't taste anywhere near what barbacoa pork should taste like. It doesn't even look like pork it looks like the beef they serve, which is also totally flavorless and unbelievably bland, and all the meat is so UNBELIEVABLY DRY its seriously hard to eat. Again, just down the road at El Toro the tacos are delicious, flavorful, moist, and well made. The town center is a lot closer and its sad I can't go here for tacos because of how awful they are.
This was a terrible experience. The server, Dennis, was not friendly. I ordered a salad and he gave me a small portion of chicken. I asked for a little more and he charged me double for less than a normal serving. I would not recommend this place and will not be coming back.
I took my wife to eat at Rios in Aliso Viejo. We when we arrived at the parking lot there were a lot of cars out front between Rios and Caines chicken tenders. We walked in to Rios and noticed that the place was very empty. There were 3 people in line just standing there. They had two people working behind the counter. One was making tortillas because we were told the were out of them. The other was filling an order and was in no hurry. He was watching the food and never looked up to help anyone. Like maybe take their order to speed things up. I started to look around and began to notice how filthy everything was. Obviously the pride of ownership has not been here for some time. We left and went next door to Cains and the place was clean and very busy. Get your shit together.
I enjoyed the tacos that I bought on Taco Tuesday. My daughter, however, was very disappointed. She always gets the chicken tortilla soup, however, Cafe Rio doesn't sell it anymore at this location. So she didn't order anything off the menu. The chicken tortilla soup has been a favorite of ours. Other changes have been made to the menu that we don't like. We will now go to Costa Vida or someplace closer to get our Tex-Mex Food. We won't travel to Cafe Rio anymore since it is further away and doesn't offer the same menu.
