Service and food amongst the best
Our group of the Air Force Academy graduates met at Harry Browne’s in the upstairs dining room. The room is quiet and private. Many of the members showed up early to enjoy a cocktail in the bar. Service for the dinner was excellent as the staff had no problems with a large group. Food was excellent and the desert pastries were a hit.
Had a Capitol burger and it was delicious. Prepared as I like it, rare. Nice atmosphere, staff friendly and courteous. Wine is pricey.
Love the Annapolitan crab omelette my husband had the capital cheeseburger. He loved it too and the french fries were great.
Been here twice, incredible food and experience both times!
Great food and excellent service. Enjoyed the crab cake!
Located directly across from the Maryland State House, Harry Browne’s Restaurant is a cornerstone of fine dining in Annapolis. With its rich history, elegant ambiance, and consistently outstanding cuisine, this establishment offers a complete and memorable dining experience. Whether you're looking for a romantic evening, a weekend brunch, or a relaxing drink with friends, Harry Browne’s delivers on every level. Elegant Dining Downstairs The main dining room exudes classic sophistication. White tablecloths, historic decor, and views of State Circle create a timeless setting. The food here is exceptional—from the famous jumbo lump crab cakes (loaded with fresh crab and minimal filler) to the perfectly prepared rack of lamb, every dish is crafted with care and beautifully presented. Their brunch menu is equally impressive, offering selections like Crab Cake Benedict and Grand Marnier French Toast, all served with your choice of a mimosa, sparkling wine, or juice. The Hidden Gem: The Upstairs Bar While the main dining area shines in its elegance, the upstairs bar at Harry Browne’s is a hidden local favorite. With a more laid-back vibe than the formal dining room, it’s the perfect place to enjoy handcrafted cocktails, appetizers, or even a full meal in a cozy, relaxed atmosphere. The bar is stocked with a wide selection of spirits, local and imported beers, and an expertly curated wine list. Bartenders here are friendly, skilled, and always ready to make something special based on your tastes. The upstairs space often has live music, especially on weekends, creating a welcoming social scene that contrasts beautifully with the formality downstairs. It’s a great spot to unwind after exploring downtown Annapolis or to catch up with friends over drinks and small plates. Service That Shines The service at Harry Browne’s is top-tier, whether you’re in the dining room or upstairs at the bar. Staff are attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely hospitable. They make every guest feel special—whether you’re a first-time visitor or a longtime regular. Final Thoughts Harry Browne’s Restaurant offers the best of both worlds: an elegant, historic dining experience downstairs and a lively, inviting bar scene upstairs. It’s a rare combination that caters to any occasion, making it a true Annapolis treasure. Whether you're looking for fine dining, a quiet brunch, or a casual evening cocktail, Harry Browne’s is always the right choice.
I had a wonderful dining experience! The food was absolutely delicious, especially the pizza, and the martini was marvelous. The waitstaff was attentive and made sure everything was perfect. I sat out front and truly enjoyed the ambiance. Highly recommend! Update: since we stayed next door for the week during the sailboat show, this was our go-to restaurant. Drew was phenomenal and very polite and helpful. Five that guy a raise! 💵
One of our Restaurant Week picks, Harry Browne's is a perennial family favorite. A cozy atmosphere, friendly and thoughtful staff, lovely drinks, and always well-prepared food.
Live the window seat! Large portions, the Penne Loster and shrimp made dinner the next night, wow!
Stepped in for a quick lunch on way to get my son from St. John’s College. I saw mixed reviews but I had an excellent lunch. The atmosphere has a lovely old world charm and sitting at a raised table in the dining room I had a beautiful view of the State House. My crab cake was perfect - lots of lump crab meat and a lovely mustard sauce that complimented it perfectly - unlike some of the waterfront restaurants that over salt their seafood and sauces. Even the asparagus and corn fritters were tasty. I had to eat quickly and the waiter was perfectly accommodating. And he even made sure I had time for the flan for dessert. Perfect lunch. Thank you. I will be back.
Crab cakes had great flavor but did have a little more filler than I prefer. At a set menu event so didn't get the full experience but I was happy with the overall experience. Wait staff were very attentive.
THE BEST CRAB CAKE I EVER HAD IN MY LIFE!!!
This is a sleeper value pick for quality dining in the heart of Annapolis. You'll find generous portions for the price compared to the local white-cloth fare (especially if you stick with the apps, brunch, and casual options). We have yet to try the dinner entrees or cocktails, but they sound very nice. The staff are busy, attentive, and polite. Today we had the cream of crab soup, turkey croissant, and the Ensign pizza. Picture included. Highly recommended. We'll be back soon for drinks and a different pizza. Edit: Try the french fries if you have space. They are among the best I've ever eaten!
Went to the bar upstairs where it’s not as formal. Ordered pizza and dessert - both fantastic! Good conversation with bartenders and great drinks!
Great little place to have Sunday brunch and people watch. Food is very good. Pictures below is the Navy breakfast and the Annapolian (they were both very delish!!!) This is a local favorite for us when we are in Annapolis and want a quaint little place with good food and not the typical crowd. Outdoor seating is nice to people watch. Reservations are highly recommended for dinner or for a nice seat by the window. Enjoy.
Simply amazing. Excellent service from Mike...ask for him. The food is pricey and portions are a bit small, but very tasty. The edible flower is a great touch. I also got a free desert with candle for my bday. Made the night even more special! Will be back to see Mike!
We reserved the Wine Cellar for our party and had a wonderful experience! Booking the room through the owner was easy and straight forward. Dinner was delicious and our server was very friendly with just the right amount of interaction. Would definitely recommend and would return if in the area.
Loved Harry Browne's the food was absolutely delicious, the dining room looks right out onto the capital and reminded me of the 1920's on the interior. We just made lunch at 2:30 before the kitchen closed to start preparing for dinner and we had the whole place to ourselves. I unfortunately don't remember our waitresses name but she was fabulous! She was doing everything hostessing, taking care of us, answering phones and bartending. Parking can be difficult there so prepare and get there early.
Fantastic experience. From the ambience of the restaurant to the prime rib, it was awesome! I highly recommend Harry Browne's. It is a five star experience! Oh, and go upstairs...there is a first class bar up there-fantastic!!!
Old world charm mixed with new world flavors. This restaurant is truly delicious and the bar is tasty too! Be prepared to spend a few clam shells here but the food really is awesome. They have lunch, brunch and dinner too. The upstairs bar is great for date night with the wife, girlfriend or both if you desire. If lucky, you can check out the wine cellar!🤫
Visited with my mom and it was fabulous. The Shrimp and Scallops was so fresh and flavorful; paired with a perfectly cooked Risotto. Our service was prompt, friendly and so pleasant. Can't say enough good things; always enjoy visiting.
WOW, we had an amazing dinner at 5pm, getting the best table, watching the sun set over the capital building. The owner Rusty was great to talk with as was our server. Our calamari was the best ever and my veal and my wife Jackie Gras fed fillet was amazing. Our wine was well priced as was the entire meal and the desert of bread pudding and our coffee drinks made the night! Thanks Rusty for an amazing retreat and memory!
This was recommended to us by our hosts at The Annapolis Inn. It was for my husband’s and my 30th wedding anniversary. I loved the celestial ceiling lights as well as everything else! Would highly recommend it!
We’ve been meaning to try Harry Browne’s for some time, but things just kept preventing us. I’m so glad we finally came. The food was excellent, the service was supreme, and everyone made us feel comfortable and well-looked-after, but not overly-so. The shrimp and scallops were divine, as was the saltimbocca. Good wine list with a bit for every pallet and price point. All around winner. Thank you!
Beautiful space. Clean, white, tablecloths. Bar upstairs and in restaurant.
Had a wonderful meal at Harry Browne's last night. Nicole was our competent and friendly server offering good suggestions to us. We shared these three dishes: absolutely fabulous cream of crab soup, a daily special, grilled watermelon salad with proscuitto wrapped honeydew melon, balsamic vinegar, cherry tomatoes and arugula. Delicious! Then we had the blackened grouper with crab, crispy panceta, saffron risotto and white wine butter sauce. Fantastic! We were too full to have dessert! Great margarita too...before the meal. I have great photos but google won't let me post them! Boo hoo...I have no idea why!
Upscale but relaxed atmosphere. Food and service were on point. Full disclosure, our server accidentally spilled a drink on me, but was extremely apologetic and it wasn't a huge deal. The food was fantastic. Steak was as good as I have had anywhere. Sides were fantastic as well. Crab dip was delicious, and dessert was great too.
Upscale venue with so many good meal choices, creatively put together, and delicious.
We just had my son’s rehearsal dinner and welcome party at Harry Browne’s. It was spectacular! We had 97 for the rehearsal dinner and 100 for the welcome party. The guests raved about the food and service. I live in New York and worked with Taylor, the event coordinator, by text and phone. She is incredible to work with. She is extremely knowledgeable and so accommodating. I’ve never thrown a party and was as relaxed as I was for this event all because of Taylor. If you want to have a 5 star celebration you need to have it at Harry Browne’s! The wait staff and bartenders were phenomenal! I highly recommend Harry Browne’s! It is exceptional!
Decided to start my reviewing journey with this restaurant when me and hubby went for dinner. Food is great but for those prices the portions are a little small for me, but hey that's fine dining.. right? Service was very polite, and service is very important to me! All in all I may come back to celebrate another special occasion.
Really enjoyed this spot the food was excellent and so were the drinks. The only thing I would say was there was no bread set on the table… but we ended up full anyway. Everyone in our party was extremely happy with their meal. The bar upstairs is very cool too, you feel like your part of old history in the capital
The crab cake with mini corn fritters was a delight. With almost no fillers, the crab cake melts in you mouth
Cannot miss this quaint Restaurant in heart of Annapolis MD on Church Circle. The bar upstairs is intimate, as in the main Restaurant on the main level. Highly recommended.
We had a wonderful birthday dinner at Harry's. We ordered the crab dip, lobster and shrimp pasta, rockfish and creme brulee for dessert. Everything was really good, but the lobster and shrimp penne is in a different league, SO DELICIUS! Oh, and drinks were perfectly balanced. Samantha, our server, was great and made sure we had a memorable evening.
The food here is delicious. Definitely a gem of Annapolis. I ordered the blackened shrimp pasta and the shrimp were nice and large and the lobster sauce was tasty as well. Highly recommend this restaurant. Will be returning.
A beautiful formal restaurant with fine dining and seating. The atmosphere is wonderful and the staff attentive and courteous. The burger was amazing. Thr flour less cake to die for.
Our dinner experience was fine. Our server was nice. The risotto was a bland but everything else was good.
This is a great place to come and have a great home cooked meal. First of all - the owner and staff are genuinely nice people. And the drinks we had left me a bit tipsy (it's a good thing), but they were so well prepared. Every bite I had was better than the previous one. I will definitely be going back and this time we’ll sit at the bar, which is what we typically like to do when there is an option (there bar upstairs was pretty cool, by the way).
We certainly enjoyed our 51st anniversary celebration meal. At our age we eat early. I got the impression that the staff wasn’t quite ready when we arrived because they hadn’t decided where we would be seated. So, we chose the window seat. Nonetheless we were well served. The white table cloth place settings made it feel special. The wine selection actually included a wine I love! We both loved the food. Best restaurant risotto I’ve ever had.
We dined at wine cellar at Harry Browne’s. You’re almost 100% guaranteed to get lost finding your way to cellar. You can be annoyed by that or find it to be yet another adventure as I did (even after being directed by the host at the front). Good wine selection (if you want a cocktail, you have to ask for that…you’re in a wine cellar). The staff was lovely, the food was decent (the crab dip was great!) Downside, the cellar is unsurprisingly an internet dead zone. That may be good for staying unplugged. But we did have a situation where someone at home couldn’t reach one of us for a fairly serious issue.
LOVELY LITTLE SPOT We loved the service and atmosphere at Harry Browne’s. The bar upstairs is lively and cozy, while the downstairs bistro is intimate and quieter. Service is absolutely OUTSTANDING here and you will appreciate their attention for sure. 5 stars for location, service, and atmosphere. Food was mostly delicious. We had: - Special Shrimp Appetizer: 5 stars. Great flavor and well-executed. I hate polenta and loved their take on it. - Beet Salad: 5 stars. I would’ve appreciated more balsamic, but I’m prolly just being picky. - NY Steak: 3 stars. Ordered medium rare and came out medium well. Brussels sprouts were greasy and inedible. Sauce on steak and mashed potatoes were good. Excellent cocktails! - Garlic Parmesan Crusted Rack of Lamb: 4 Stars. Ordered medium rare and came out medium to medium well. It’s too baaaaaaaad because the fish was otherwise great.
The lunch menus is somewhat limited so we had a pasta dish. The oysters were very good and fresh.
Harry Browne is located right in the center of Annapolis and seems like it has been there a while. They have an upstairs that has a speakeasy vibe and looks like a fun place to have a drink. The food was solid. The pork chop was slightly overcooked but had good flavor. The calamari was good. I didn’t understand what pizza was doing on the menu. Doesn’t seem like that type of place plus it was average. The mushroom ravioli had good flavor. The crab soup was hearty and had nice flavor. Not sure why there wasn’t music playing for dinner. Would have helped the ambiance. Overall, it was a nice meal. I would come back when visiting Annapolis. 3.5 stars is a fair rating. Will bump it to 4!
Attended a private party in their upstairs room and people constantly not affiliated with the party kept coming upstairs. Otherwise it is a nice restaurant with a nice location
Thanksgiving day food was good. short of exceptional but absolutely delicious. Service was outstanding.
Atmosphere is upscale and service was attentive. The food seems to be hit or miss. Parts of our dinner were great, other parts we had to send back because it tasted spoiled.
This is a restaurant for an older crowd, if you’re under 55 you will feel out of place. Food is very mediocre and the staff is not attentive.
I made a reservation but they were running late so we were sent upstairs to wait. End up ordering there because we had theater tickets and it was 20 minutes before a table downstairs open up. Not the atmosphere for fine dining more like a dirty pub but the prices were the same. Disappointing experience from what was supposed to be a fancy evening out. Server was excellent but stretched thin as she was waiting on entire room. Beer tap was dirty and had a strange taste. Food was unexceptional.
We were excited to dine here for the first time on Christmas Eve, but unfortunately the experience was disappointing, both in terms of service and food. When we made our reservation, we were told there would be a prix fixe menu, but it was never posted. We decided to keep our reservation anyway, as the regular menu sounded appealing. We were seated and greeted promptly, but then waited over an hour for our food. When my lamb arrived, it looked beautiful, but it was completely unsalted and lacked flavor. The gnocchi was overcooked, dry, and chewy. My husband and parents ordered steaks and scallops, and all of them also commented that their dishes tasted underseasoned. I felt for our waitress, who was clearly stretched thin and running between tables. The service suffered overall due to what appeared to be short staffing, and possibly a shortage in the kitchen as well. After such a long wait, it felt like the meals may have been rushed. I understand that holidays are extremely busy and I wanted to give some grace, but the biggest disappointment was the food itself. Had we waited over an hour and been served outstanding meals, we would have felt much better about the experience. Instead, it was frustrating to spend nearly $300 on a meal where no one was satisfied—aside from our toddler, who had pizza. Not to mention that I wish they had brought my toddlers pizza out right away because some restaurants will do that for you so the kids can eat right away. I felt bad he had to wait so long and it was almost 8 by the time our food came with a 6:15 reservation. Given the long wait and the quality of the food, we’re unsure if we’ll return or recommend this place.
