Id have to say that I was very pleased with all aspects of The Derby service. Usually nice high end places I can expect either great food or great service, great deserts, great appetizers, great atmosphere... hopefully, I can get them all but more often than not one of those things is off. The Derby was excellent in every aspect. Would highly recommend and can garuntee you will be pleased.
The World Famous Derby is a must-visit if you love old-school steakhouses with classic charm and timeless hospitality. From the moment you walk in, the vibe feels nostalgic, polished, and welcoming--exactly what you want for a great night out. We started at the bar for drinks, where Michael and Josh were friendly, engaging, and attentive. Michael made an excellent dirty martini--perfectly balanced and ice cold--setting the tone for the evening. When our table was ready, the friendly host Shaden came to get us and escorted us into the dining room for what turned out to be a truly delicious dinner. Our waiter, Brandon, was spot on all night--knowledgeable, attentive, and always one step ahead of our needs without being intrusive. The service here truly stands out. Cameron, the shift manager, even stopped by our table to check on our dining experience, which speaks volumes about the level of care and pride the team takes in delivering exceptional hospitality.
Lunch at The Derby was a total win. The crab cakes were perfectly crisp and packed with flavor, the bacon-wrapped dates were that ideal sweet-savory bite you keep thinking about, and the Caesar salad was fresh, classic, and beautifully done. We wrapped things up with rich, creamy cheesecake that felt indulgent in all the right ways. Add in their expertly crafted cocktails, and it was one of those lunches that turns into an occasion—polished, delicious, and absolutely worth lingering over. 🍸✨
I love The Derby. I have been visiting The Derby since I was a young and have been a loyal patron for as long as I can remember. When I recently got married, we held our wedding at a friend’s home, and The Derby graciously agreed to cater the event. The experience was nothing short of exceptional. Our guests were absolutely thrilled with the quality of the food. Dinner included individually plated wedge salads and bread service served by the staff, followed by a buffet featuring a prime rib carving station, penne alla vodka, broccolini, potatoes romanoff, and rosemary chicken—many of my personal favorites. The service was outstanding. The wait staff set everything up and broke everything down at the end of the evening, and I truly didn’t have to do anything other than enjoy my meal. No guest ever had an empty water or wine glass, and no plate was left unattended. The staff was attentive, professional, and warm throughout the entire evening. I cannot say enough wonderful things about The Derby and about the general manager, Tyler, who coordinated everything so seamlessly and helped create such an unforgettable experience for us on our wedding day.
Service here is always great, and I have tried so many things at this point that I can confidently say everything has been excellent. The interior has that classic steakhouse feel with the red seating, which I really like. My favorite place to sit is the George Woolf room, especially the booth by the bar. I have had a bunch of appetizers, and the standouts I always recommend are the French onion soup, bone marrow, and beef tartare. The drinks are amazing no matter what you order. I have tried various steaks, including the Mike Smith and the ribeye, and they are both very good, but I always come back to the prime rib. It is my favorite every time. The creamed corn and any of their potato sides complement the steak perfectly. Of course, you have to order some wine as well. I have tried all the desserts and honestly cannot choose a favorite. I always end the night with the Derby cappuccino. As much as I try, they never tell me what is in it since the recipe is a secret. It is the perfect way to finish a meal and a big reason I keep coming back.
The food was amazing. Could not stop eating. Brussel sprouts and crab cakes were delicious. The steak was phenomenal. The wife said it was the best she’s had. The service was attentive and many clearing the table and checking on you. The Derby was decked out with Holiday decorations. Very festive. Still had the classic steak house look.
One of my two favorite steak houses! The Derby in itself is quaint and the restaurant has so much charm. Great atmosphere, wonderful service, amazing people, awesome food and such an all-around fun place! Wish I would have known there was a Derby in Arcadia. Mistakenly discovered it. Have been there quite a few times in the past couple of years and will continue to be a loyal customer. I went to the hat shaped Derby as a teenager right before it shut down. So glad I was able to experience that. Decades later, here we are again. Cheers!!!
Wow. What an amazing local steakhouse. The atmosphere is classic old NY steakhouse. Very elegant even if crowded and expanded into every stretch of the building. Service was excellent and food outstanding. Bacon wrapped filet was one of their signature dishes and didn’t disappoint along with the potatoes Romanoff. Worth the visit if in the greater LA area.
Last night the Derby saved us after some plans at the Mission Inn that turned to disaster. The Derby delivered! We entered through falling snow outside the entrance...into an atmosphere of magic and cheer. The food was amazing...a great value. Despite our last minute late night reservation we were treated like valued customers. The decorations and fireplace created the perfect ambiance we were wanting to experience for our Christmas season dining. Thank you for making it perfect.
Had a wonderful dinner celebrating son’s birthday. All five of us enjoyed every thing including the crab cakes, cheese bread, wedge salad, the ribeye steaks, prime rib, Marsala mushrooms, potatoes in different ways and the macaroni and cheese. Their drinks were solid and the bread pudding and apple pie were very tasty. Service was excellent. They also served a flamed ice cream to celebrate. We highly recommend
Fabulous evening from start to finish! The server Chris was attentive, courteous and kind. The food was outstanding. Honestly think it was the best prime rib I've ever eaten. Period. The wedge salad was flavorful and back on pieces made me crave more. The green beans were cooked perfectly and potatoes romonoff were amazing. As I started in this review, it was a great evening from start to finish. .
Absolutely Exceptional! From the moment we walked into the restaurant , we knew we were in for a treat. The atmosphere was warm and inviting . Our server, was knowledgeable, attentive and with good humor. Everything about the experience — from the food to the service to the atmosphere — was top-notch. Easily one of the best steakhouses I’ve ever been to. Can’t wait to come back!
My husband and I recently celebrated our 15-year wedding anniversary at The Derby in Arcadia, and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. From the moment we walked in, the staff went above and beyond to make our evening special. We had a 5 PM reservation but arrived a little early, so we grabbed a drink at the bar while the hostess checked if we could be seated sooner. To our delight, they accommodated us 15 minutes ahead of schedule—such a thoughtful touch! I started with the Phar Lap, their take on a Moscow Mule, and it was absolutely refreshing. Once seated, we were welcomed with fresh cheese bread (a delicious start) and had the pleasure of being served by Ally—one of the most gracious and attentive waitresses we've ever had. She truly elevated our experience. We each ordered another round of drinks and opted for the Dine LA menu, expecting a great meal, but we were pleasantly surprised by just how generous the portions were! We left completely satisfied, with leftovers to enjoy later. Though our meal included dessert, we were so full that we asked for it to go. To our surprise, The Derby treated us to a Baked Alaska in honor of our anniversary—our first time ever trying one! Watching the 151-proof rum ignite into a mesmerizing blue flame as it toasted the meringue was such a fun and memorable experience. From start to finish, The Derby made our anniversary dinner feel incredibly special. The warm atmosphere, fantastic food, and top-tier service left a lasting impression, and we can’t wait to return. A huge thank you to Ally and the entire team for making our night so wonderful!
I was really looking forward to trying this place, but unfortunately in the middle of our meal the power went out and halted all cooking operations so we were not able to get past the appetizers. Nonetheless, based on the experience we had The Derby still deserves 5 stars all around. The interior is huge with lots of rooms and tables, and the staff are very friendly and professional. UPDATE: I went back for Valentine’s Day and got the sweetheart steak for 2. The steak itself was huge but tasted like a very cheap cut of meat. They had to drench it in sauce to make it flavorful. The sides were decent and the dessert sampler was fantastic. Overall though the food was not as exquisite as I expected, but the ambiance and service are incredible.
An absolutely amazing place to enjoy fine dining in Arcadia. We were there to enjoy a fine meal and celebrate my birthday. Barbara, who’s been with the Derby for over 17 years, was our most outstanding host and entertainment for the evening. She and her partner James provided outstanding service and made the evening exceptionally pleasant and enjoyable. Everyone enjoyed their respective meals, drinks, the warm and cozy fireplace and the overall ambience. The Derby offers a dining experience for which memories are made!
Best meal around, the service is amazing and the environment is perfect. Definably feels like your stepping back in time!

Our server Reuben was excellent. He congratulated us on our anniversary and went above and beyond to make sure our first time here was exceptional. Besides the wonderful food we had tonight, we ordered dessert and Reuben prepared a baked Alaska for us to celebrate our anniversary. Flames and all. What a nice show, you don’t see much these days anymore. Usually baked Alaska is prepared back in the kitchen. Thank you Derby and Reuben for making us feel special tonight.
The food at the Derby is just OK. The service is excellent. The ambience is really 1950s which we like.

Came to The Derby in Arcadia excited to try the prime rib. Drove half an hour specifically for it after seeing some pictures and seeing that it was available for Dine LA. Although we had a reservation, we waited for a table about 40 minutes because it was a busy night. Shortly after sitting down, the waiter came around to introduce himself and I ask him if there is any prime rib left; he assures me there is. When he comes back to take our order: he has checked with the kitchen - one is in the oven, but it may take a half hour to come out. Great! We order. Salads and appetizers arrive, and he comes back again with an update: actually the prime rib will be ready in 10 minutes, so it should be perfect timing. Even better! At this point, things start to go awry. Across the room has a very unhappy guest calls the manager over and they argue about something at length. A few minutes after that scene, our waiter comes back to our table and apologies: oh, we actually don't have any prime rib left -- it's too rare and we can't grill it without making it tough, sorry. The staff then bring about something that looks suspiciously like prime rib to the complaining table! So... after telling me multiple times that yes, prime rib is available, yes, it's coming, then yes, it'll be perfect timing -- now it's suddenly "not available." Honestly, it felt pretty obvious they gave the prime rib they'd promised to me to the complaining table . And if that's what happened, fine -- but really, why lie to me as a guest? The waiter then asks if we'd like to cancel our orders, i.e., would we like to leave without having eaten anything but salad? By now, it's 9:30pm, after we came in at 8:00pm; it's late out and the only thing open now is fast food. I stare at the menu and nothing sounds good because I was looking forward to prime rib for hours now. Reluctantly, I ask for the ribeye as a replacement. He comes back after talking to the manager and says there will be a $20 additional charge because it's not on the Dine LA menu. I was shocked, but I agreed because... what else am I supposed to do at that point? The ribeye finally comes out grisly and tough -- not even close to worth the detour, the wait, or the upcharge. My partner's filet mignon also is dried out, obvious that they fired it an hour ago when the prime rib was supposed to come out and left it under a heat lamp to dry out. We paid the bill and still left a tip, but we walked out kind of stunned at how many missteps happened in one dinner. We ended up eating at 10pm after coming in at 8pm and basically wasted our whole night for a subpar meal, been strung along and possibly lied to, and left with a bad taste in our mouths.
