Don't be deceived by the exterior, this place is great! Stick to the Salvadorian food. Recommend the soup or the combination plate with yucca, chicharones, plantains, and a pupusa

A
Alejandro Molina

I tried the yuca plate and it was very delicious. The plantains were to die for. Great food and service.

A
Alexander Munoz

Tried some new food and wasn't disappointed. I asked for an horchata thinking it would be like the Mexican horchata but it was still very good!!

The food here is so good. I love their pupusas and tamales!

This place was great. I'd never had Salvadoran food, but it was a tasty surprise. I would definitely go back.

My order was a To-go, but I can't complain, I finally find a central American restaurant were they understand what was my order, the lady who took my order was very friendly.

I get the bean and cheese pepusas from here all the time. They are my absolute favorite ❤️

A

The pupusas were great! Flavor and size to the max. If you haven't tried Salvadorian food, this is a good place to start!!!

S

The mariscada was really good. And the pupusas. If your in a hurry this is not the place for you. Food takes a while cuz their busy and food is made when its ordered. To me its worth the wait.

K

This is the first place I had popusas so it will always hold a special place in my belly, I mean heart. The parking is pretty terrible but it's worth the struggle. PRO TIP cover all the things in the tangy slaw they bring you and take no prisoners

J

The Salvadoran food is always great. I live out of town, and 8 times out of ten, I come here. I have to. No complaints. Glad this place is here!

Really good food! And plenty of it! I had the combination plate. It is a great way to sample Salvadoran food if you are new to the cuisine.

Delicious and Authentic Central American food. One of my guilty pleasures. Recommend the caldo or the combination plate. The chicharrones and pupusas are awesome. Also recommend getting beans with creama, it's so good

M

The food is really good, the service is great, the best pupusas ever, I been in Maryland and utha and I never bad pupusas like this ones, definitely recommend

This place is the only place I know to get pupusas. They are great. They are so far from where I live. When on the area I always stop by.

You cannot go wrong here. Salvis are my fav type of people. Not bc I am one or anything. Their pupusas and chicharon are a great place to start. To try a lil of everything the combination platter is what you want.

I’m really love to take my breakfast on this restaurant, I like the food, taste really good. And they have good customer service!

Hidden gem. Been searching for papusas since my days in the Bronx. I ordered pork, bean and cheese but should have stuck with bean and cheese to recreate my memory. Guess I'll have to go back! Delicious tamales and plantains completed the lunch plate. Super sweet staff!

C

I like getting pupusas here! They are somewhat consistent but I assumed they have different cooks. I do like the pupusas 🫓 either way. I love the ingredients they use.

Eat here...Now..... Today! This understated little restaurant blew my mind. Incredible pupusas, perfectly caramelized plantains, and the flavorful cabbage that comes along side everything should be sold by the gallon it is so delicious!

The absolute best authentic Mexican food in the area!!! I remember coming in during the ice in short on cash and the owner fed me and said I can pay what i can and pay the rest later, that she trusted me! You bet I returned and paid! I dont know what id do or where I would go but im glad Costa Del Sol had my back during hard times!! Much love Del Sol thank you!!

Love this Place! Their pupusas are AMAZING! My husband loves to get their Platanos, Crema y Frijoles when they have it. Hes also gotten some authentic Quesadilla bread from them at one point and loved it. Anytime were in Austin we will continue to eat here for great food and great services!

A

It's a small family owned business the quality and flavor of the pupusas were AWESOME 😎👍 definitely going back 😤

This is hands down the best Salvadorean pupusas spot in Austin. You will not be disappointed. Weekends can be busy so you can even orders yours to go. I know great pupusas when I eat one. Go and order a few. One will not be enough!

A
Alondra Elias-Nuñez

I personally love salvadorian food and the service at this place is great. I would really recommend the pupusas and mariscada. They prepare your food pretty quick if the place isn’t full (most of the time it is because it’s so good). But overall everyone in there is just so friendly and the food is delicious. Also, when you’re paying I recommend buying some quesadillas, you won’t regret it!

Graphene

Pupusas! Try them! The queso y loroco AND the chicharon y quseo are what you want to order. If youve never had these(pupusas) Salvadorean staple, you'll be impressed. Pupusas are corn Masa stuffed with the ingredients of your choice and are then grilled/pan fried to cook and crisp the surface. The come with a house made cabbage slaw and red chili salsa. Inexpensive and delicious. Go for it 😉

Literally the most mind blowing food for a great price. It takes just like a mother’s love straight from the kitchen. Don’t be discouraged by the location or any looks because this is some of the most amazing and authentic food you’ll try. Would forever eat here and would travel cities AGAIN just to eat here. Major find!!

I tried for the first time Salvadoran food and I was nicely surprised! The pupusas and Plantin were excellent! It's a bit expansive but you have so much food par plate, I had enough leftovers for dinner! The servers were nice. The atmosphere is very Salvadoran! I felt I wasn't in Austin anymore. It was a great experience overall. If you like trying new things you should definer go there!

Loved the food here. Everything is fresh. The pupusas were not greasy at all, compared to other places. The chicharron was perfect.

Great food but you need to be patient since they dont have alot of employees and the food takes time. I recommend the papusas.

Good authentic Salvadorian & Mexican food. Your typical where the locals go type of place. Will be going back

N
Not Myrealname

The food ia solid and authentic. My girlfriend from Central America detests Texmex style food but loves the food here since it reminds her of home. That being said half of the time the person at the register doesn't speak English and you may have to break our your Spanish from high school to order takeout or wait till they can get someone fluent enough to take your order. Speaking of takeout the ambiance inside is cramped and a bit run down, and the service is rushed (though still friendly) so I'd recommend it for takeout and not a place to take out the family for dinner. Papusas are great and get my recommendation!

J

This place has some of the best beef tacos ever. It's a hole in the wall, so you know I'm speaking the truth. I only ordered one, but I felt like ordering five more. Too bad I was too full.

K
Kate Schnack

Salvadoran food. They have plantains w beans, spicy cole slaw & tamales pork or chicken. My vegetarian lunch was good. The service was good. Either counter service /to go or table service ia available

S
Steven Hyde

Best Pappusa's in Austin area! Fantastic hole in the wall place, Mom and Pop type. Good service, excellent food quality.

L
Linda Huynh

Super heavy but delicious food. Just seat yourself and get the "combinated" plate. Being a virgin to the pupusa (stuffed round flat bread thingy), I just went for it and it was quite yummy.

D
David Font

Their juices are pretty flavorful. Try their horchata! The tamales are so authentic! If you've only had Mexican tamales then, you are missing out! They have pork, chicken and corn. Try all three El Salvadorian styled tamales! The service is a bit relaxed so plan accordingly. This restaurant is located in a business park along with a few other Hispanic businesses. This is in the stand-alone building facing perpendicular to the highway but still accessible by the highway.

They are amazing no complaint with them (for majority). The food is great, and authentic.I I am accommodated, and always made feel appreciated by the waitresses, so usually everything is great. The service of the waitresses are phenomenal!

Been coming here since 2005 and by far the most authentic salvadoreño pupusas, don’t expect a 5 star restaurant. Just your local mom and pop restaurant serving the best pupusas ( my opinion ) in north Austin.

Jaquelyn Moreno
Jaquelyn Moreno

It depends on the time, that's how long it takes to get the order, the waiting time is normal. What they should improve is the cleanliness, bad cleaning generates bad smells, I know that sometimes not all of us perceive or have the same sense of smell, but this time I couldn't eat well because of a bad smell in the restaurant. The food was super good and the service was good, but that point that complements it is missing.

Pupusa's were amazing the plantines were ok didn't taste fresh and were a little over cooked. The restaurant is small and stays busy our waiter when we 1st arrived was Jaime which did upset me to see her rubbing/touching all over her stomach and back while taking our drink orders to me that was rude and unsanitary

Brenda

My fam of 5 visited this weekend from out of town. I ordered the pupusas.. pricey but oh so good! The salsa was lacking but curtido was on point. Def recommend 👌 My husband had the bistec plate which could've been better. Atmosphere dining in was not that great. Paint chipping everywhere and women's bathrooms out of order. Our waitress seemed tired, but with this ecomony..who isn't? I'd order to pickup pupusas again tbh but probably nothing else.

The Food Dude
The Food Dude

The Food here isn't bad. I think there is some room for improvement but over all it will satisfy an itch for something special. The pork was fried good but it was old pork. The Pupusa were decent the flavor was there like I have had at other places where you could taste the loroco. These tasted mostly of the Masa. The Cabbage wasn't bad pretty run of the mill and the salsa was ok. I think that both can be improved but it's pretty standard. Nice thing was it wasn't over powered by Oregano. The salsa was very similar to tomatoes sauce. I have had other versions that just stand out way more. But over all not a bad place to eat.

I absolutely love the food, but we were charged more than we were supposed to. The lady over the phone said that it was 50 dollars but then raised to 66 when we got there. I love the food but that was just something else smh

J

The food is good but the inside smells wierd sometimes and it's really dirt the astrosphere just makes you fell uncomfortable.

O

The food is great but the atmosphere could be way better. It seems like the AC never works, it's miserable hot and small space. Nothing wrong with the food.

J

The pupusas and the sopa de mariscos here are delicious, but the food takes forever. Don't come here on your lunch break. You'll have to choose between being late or leaving without eating

A

Havnt been here for a year. The pupusas have a different taste, they must've changed the cook. B4 the pupusas were the bomb! Now not so good like b4. They shud work on customer service.

B
Bobby J

In my opinion it is one of the better places to get pupusas in town. The staff are friendly and willing to answer questions about the menu and check in when you need them. Food arrived pretty quickly and even had some of our team going back for seconds. Only thing holding me back from rating this place 4 / 5 stars is the limited parking and that they had a minimum charge to use a card.

Crystal Huang
Crystal Huang

I've been twice but will probably pass on this place and try other Hispanic places around here next time, because the service is too slow. I've only had the pupusas here, three different kinds. They're fine, definitely affordable. I waited 10 minutes for one pupusa, and another time I went I ordered two pupusas and it took 20 minutes from ordering for my food to be served. The restaurant was half empty both times.

My recent visit to Costa del Sol Restaurant was far from the enjoyable experience I had anticipated. Despite its promising reputation, my experience was marred by several significant issues that left me feeling frustrated and dissatisfied.

Felicity Loveland
Felicity Loveland

This place was fine. The wait was long, something was dripping from the ceiling (it was rainy), I didn't quite get what I ordered (enchiladas were supposed to come with beans and salad, but came with rice instead. [Ironically the rice was probably the best part]), my fiance ordered horchata and received some mango drink instead (also really liked it, so maybe they mess up on purpose?), and I'm pretty sure we were overcharged by around $5. The food was alright.

Edit 8/20/17. I'm pretty bummed to have to edit my review just the day after I posted 5 stars. I dropped down to 3 stars because my husband ordered 15 vegan pupusas the night of my birthday. He was very careful to specify and confirm that we didn't want cheese because the whole party is vegan. He ordered well in advance and confirmed the order more than once before he went to pick it up. Well, they messed up the whole order and put cheese on everything. They refused to re-make the order even though there was more than an hour left before closing. I was left with a house full of waiting party guests and no pupusas. Everything my guests brought was intended to complement pupusas, which were to be the main dish. I am never going to return because I think It's very poor form to leave a loyal customer hanging like that. I have been telling everyone about this place, but I feel very disappointed in how they treated us. -end edit Best vegan pupusas! If you are vegan, you may assume this place doesn't have anything you can eat. When I first saw the menu online, I was very dismayed. Rejoice! Not only do they make vegan pupusas, they make them better than any other pupusaria I have been to, and they don't use lard. Order like this. "Dos pupusas solo frijoles y loroco (a green vine that tastes like spinach), sin queso. Con guacamole." My Spanish may not be very good, but this gets the job done. Most of the people there do speak some English. Please be polite and speak slowly if you order in english. "Two pupusas with beans and loroco, NO cheese. Add guacamole." Two pupusas will fill up most appetites. One plus half a serving of guac is more than enough to satisfy me, and when you eat in, it comes with free chips and salsa. 4 pupusas costs about $9, so two hungry people can get full on $10. Guac is like $2.50 for a generous scoop. Be sure to leaver a tip. If you call your order in, be aware that vegan pupusas take a little longer to make. Call in advance and allow about 20 min or more, depending on how busy they are.

M
Martha Mejia

the pupusas did not reach my expectations, because the typical thing in el Salvador is that they prepare them with white cheese

s

food was alright.... service they need to work on it more.... they don't always have what they have on the menu.... witch kind of sucks if you ask me...

M
ME MO

The Popusas are great, the rest of the food not so much. The service / staff is HORRIBLE, rude, they make little to no attempt to speak english and give you all kinds of "Ojos" evil eyes. The parking is horrible (someone hit and run my car while I was dining in), and I wished they would buy/rent the building next door to open up the place ( it is always packed / wait for a table) The wait is ALWAYS long but the Popusas keep me coming back.

Z
Zhandra Andrade

I asked for mondongo which was more bones than anything else. The service is very bad, it is like they are not happy to work there. Pupusas were great, empanadas not so much. The kids quesadilla was ok. The combination del mar was ok but will not come back here...

M
Mario Andino

Food is fantastic and all, but the waitresses give such rude glares. One didn't even know I knew Spanish and started talking about me to the other waitress. I don't like going very much anymore, but when I do, It's because my coworker asks me to go for her. She's had a pretty bad experience as well

K
Kathy Sol Sal

Well, I’m a little surprised to see so many good reviews about this restaurant because when I went there it didn’t seem to be so good at all. The food was just ok!! Nothing worth going back or even paying more than $10. I have been to other Hispanic restaurants and the food and customer service both far exceeded this restaurant.

When today and I ordered shrimp cocktail, my order came out without avocado they waiter told me they were out, then I ask for more salted crackers and they were out too, I wanted a michelada and they also sod not have it . I did not enjoy my meal

N

TERRIBLE!! dirty, found hair in food and they didn't care. Pricy, charge $4 for tap water. Never heard of a restaurant that charges, but they did

A
Austin Moore

My review is based off the one time thst I've been there. I'm sure it's usually better. But i went for breakfast and they didn't have eggs. Every single thing on the breakfast menu has eggs. There is a walmart close by that sells eggs. There is a grocery store nearby that sells eggs. Your breakfast menu is nothing but eggs. Go buy some freaking eggs.

V
Veronica Barrera

I love their pupusas! But every time I go they take forever to serve your food and the place is just too small for their demand!

A
A Medrano

I’ve loved this place before the papayas are to die for but I just walked in the building and sat down to eat 5 mins ago the lady brings me chips and red salsa, and the salsa is bubbling like it’s boiling and not from heat but from expired tomatoes that smelled like crema (SOUR)... I walked out and my son said they were laughing at us, if he would’ve told me while we were there I would’ve threw the Chile at her and made her wear it ! LAUGH AT THAT 🤬

G
Galilea Castro

i ordered a popusa with bean and cheese and it only had cheese with these green things and i ordered one with chicharrón, cheese and beans and i didn’t see no beans. The flautas were greasy and it didn’t taste like chicken it had something squishy.

L

We drive 45 min to come eat here and We really love the pupusas, but the staff is very rude. Very sad because the pupusas are delicious.

I get that inflation is affecting us all but a $4 coke is way to much. Food is decent but they took 25min and they weren't even busy at the time .

B
Berenice Villalobos

Horrible service girls that work seem to hate their job!!! Me and my mom came in there was empty dirty tables waiting to be cleaned and finally when we got their attention they wanted to sit us by the bathroom and where they wanted but there is clearly no sign saying to wait to be seated never coming back !!!! When they told that we just told them that we are leaving and now were going to el zunzal a much better salvadorian restaurant I recommend not coming here (costa del sol)

N
Native85 J

I drank the Horchata and it had a powder taste to it. Must have been a powder mix and not the real stuff. The lemonade tasted like it came from a plastic container. The Caldo de res had no flavor, it tasted like hot water with vegetables. It sounds like they are taking short cuts on preparing food. I have been here several times and been disappointed every time. Good luck

T
Tanisha Hernandez

There was a roach in my food and the server didn’t seem too worried about it. Disgusting.

L

Long time customer here. Not a fan of the new changes, definitely not worth coming back. I miss the old costa del sol 💔 (lady/cashier was rude previous employees were amazing)

A
Ana Lopez

We called ahead to order some popusas today and from the start had very poor service with the girl on the phone. When we went to pick them up we were only given three instead of the twelve that we ordered. Same girl was there and still not very helpful or nice. We live far so we had to turn around and drive an extra thirty minutes for her just to say yea your order is right there.. Please hire better people or train better customer service. After all the back and forth we still payed for the full amount when it was obviously her mistake.

A
A R

I went in for a to go order. I only ordered 5 pupusas with the salad. I was told it would be 15 minutes....30 minutes later I walked out. No food is worth the wait when you've had a long day. My suggestion, order ahead, way ahead if you want a to go order. Restaurant should give realistic estimate of how long food will take.

J
Juan Berrios Jr

The service and quality of the food has gone down over the years. I stopped ordering chicharrón pupusas due not tasting anything like chicharrón. Their beans are local and plátanos are not ripe enough when they cook them. The corn tamales are the only thing that taste original and the yuca con chicharrón are also good.

D
Donald Stone

First time trying this place and last, not very impressed. Service was terrible. Food took 45 minutes to come out for only two people. My beans had no flavor and were very soupy, meat was tough and hard to eat. Gfs quesadilla was extremely greasy Better off going somewhere else.

d
david mejia

we first tried ordering banana (tropical) and they had none, then we tried ordering the kids hamburger and fries and they didn’t have that either. so we ordered pupusas instead and the home made tamarindo drink and we received it after we were done eating. after eating the pupusas i found a 1 inch wood piece inside my pupusa, the server wasn’t the nicest. it was my first time here and i don’t think i’m coming back.

C
Cynthia Caballero

I order ahead, when I got there my order was not complete and told me it would be 15 more minutes because they didn't took the order right. The horchatas water was horrible sour.

K
Kayleena Renee

If I could I would give them ZERO STARS Horrible food, way over priced. Especially when everything is store bought DO NOT recommend at all the parking is horrible the timing takes forever way OVERCHARGED 8$ for a cola 15$ for 3tacos rice and beans. You can tell everything is store bought. Very disappointed and discouraging when all the employees are just standing around

B
Brenda S.

I would give it zero stars if I could. The service was terrible . The food wasn't good and we waited for over 40 minutes to get our food. When we did get it we had 4 pupusas that were de chicharrón but they smelled so bad. When we told the lady in the front that they were bad she said that "yea they do smell smoked" we asked her to remove them from our bill because we had only eaten a small piece before the smell hit us. That's when we noticed they the meat had gone bad. We where told that they can remove them from the bill but when we went to pay the lady not only did not take the 4 pupusas off of the bill she was trying to over charge us. DO NOT GO HERE!

Ryan Garcia

The food is good but the financial practices need to be investigated 6 pupusa 1 jamica 2 small rice 56 dollars and than they used this excuse for 6 people we don’t have change so they would keep extra or you use card. Wait time is extraordinary 30-45 minutes. I’m a baller so don’t really care charge it to the game I won’t ever be back. They had a chance to have another customer but naw they are questionable
