Went to the Crown & Anchor Tuesday night and had probably the best service I've ever had at a restaurant. The bartender offered us samples of a beer we were considering, and when our hamburger came out (we shared one since we weren't that hungry) it was cut in half and put into 2 baskets, each with an order of fries - I hadn't even thought to ask for that. I forgot to get the bartenders name, but whoever you are, excellent job!

Super cute! Stoped here for a drink and some food while waiting on a friend to finish up an appointment. Friendly staff I’m anxious going to places alone and didn’t have a problem here. I felt super welcome. The food was also awesome and prices were an added bonus.

We live in walking distance at Austin seminary and LOVE coming here! The food is awesome and the staff is phenomenal! So affordable and fun for low key chill out during the semester. Lots of UT folk and young working professionals come regularly, so expect to make friends easily if you become a regular like us! Oh and I learned how to throw darts here which is the best memory I’ll hold. Love this place!

I’ve been here many times in my 30+ years as an Austinite. This time I showed up and ordered food without my debit card like a jackass. The lovely bartender floated me a burger without even flinching. Great burger as always but the act of generosity floored me and reminds me of why I call Austin home. Customer for life.

On thanksgiving they had an incredible spread with turkey, great sides, gravy, and pie, all free of charge. These are very nice people and this has been one of my very favorite spots since I moved here 13 years ago. Thank you Crown and Anchor.

Not much i can say that hasn't already been said. Great historical pud down on UT campus. A bazillion beers and ales to choose from as well as non alcoholic choices, no spirits tho. Im a cider drinker and they can set me up just fine, too. They serve up some great pub grub as well. Atmos is comfy, both indoor and out. They have covered patios for inclement weather. A-1 rated for daytime drinking. Night time too i suppose, I've only ever gone during the day. They do a fair amount of burger business and with good reason. Their burgers are fantastic. They're served with a fist full of tasty fries. Well worth the price. Always a good time, solo or with friends.

It has great beer selection, great hamburgers, an awesome patio and AMAZING staff. Lots of UT people but mostly grad students and professors but tons of other people too. It's an all around very solid neighborhood bar. Noteworthy details: -Dogs and smoking outside. Good sized parking lot. -All ages restaurant vibe during the day (though you'll spot a lot people with beer with their lunch). 21+ beer garden-y vibe at night -21+ only after 8pm (6pm on Fridays)

This is the corner bar of UT and APTS. As a gradschool nerd I loved this place 15 years ago when I was in seminary. Now that I work as a Dean, I still love to walk over for a great beer and burger at a legit price. Mid day or happy hour or late at night before a show, the crown&anchor is an anchor.

The atmosphere was great. The service and the patrons were sociable. There was seating outdoors that was closed in, which we loved. The food was good. I sprinkled a little salt on the burger, and it immediately came to life. I would most definitely go again.

Absolute best burger in Austin! I have been going to Crown and Anchor for about two decades. I always enjoyed the jalapeno cheese burger.... just perfection and what a burger should be. I have a lot of love for the bar as well. In my twenties, there were always great deals on pitchers. In my more boring thirties, we would show up at 11am with our now 4-year-old daughter and get a burger and a beer when we were in the area. I love this place. We live in Massachusetts now, but we will always return on our family visits to Texas for some beer and just a perfect, lovely burger.

Ended up in Austin for a night and looked for a local place to get some grub, and we found Crown & Anchor Pub. I can't even express how pleased I am with our experience, it was busy all night but never overcrowded, the staff was quick, on top of it, and the most friendly humans I've ran into in the service industry in years. The food came out fast and hot and delicious. Big John was very friendly and definitely made an impression on this group from Portland OR.

It's been over 25 years since I lived in Austin, and this place still makes one of the best mushroom Swiss burger and fries! They have a good selection of beers. The servers were outgoing and on point, quickly helping every customer with a smile on a comment. This place makes me want to move back to Austin!

Tried based on a friend's recommendation and was not disappointed. Solid tap wall and great burger and fries. Patio was dog friendly which was an added bonus. French Fries were amazing - I think they are double fried? Super crispy on outside and a little soft in the middle. Highly recommend.

My boyfriend and I decided to walk to this establishment. upon our arrival, we were greeted and was able to sit wherever we wanted. We ordered food, and chose a table. This was my first visit, but my boyfriend has been here many times. He says they have the best burgers. The food was so good he forgot to share his fries! 😂 I had a taco salad, which was pretty good. The atmosphere is fantastic, complete with pool tables, dart boards, and a small town vibe. We really enjoyed our visit here, and hope to do so again in the near future.

Been going here for about 14 years now due to working at UT. Ordered a jalapeno cheeseburger every time -- it's that good, why mess with perfection. I think unless you're a part of UT engineering or live nearby you might never hear about this place, but it's a fantastic spot to get a bite and the beer selection is big. I usually go for lunch during work so I skip out on that element but others are usually enjoying them!

Crown and Anchor is a great grad school pub near campus. I've been probably 7 or 8 times and it's always been fun and not overly crazy. Pool tables, good beer selection, and a great patio. Plus the staff is really friendly. My preference for grabbing a beer after a late class.

This place is an absolute gem. We wanted somewhere we could go grab a drink with our pups while visiting Austin. This place was perfect. Great atmosphere. Reasonable prices. HUGE beer selection and great, varied food menu. They greeted us with treats and water bowls for our pups. Everyone was so nice. They even gave us a magazine of local things to do when they learned we were visiting. We will definitely be coming back before we leave. Love this place

Very competitive price for tasty burgers and fries. The staff is extremely courteous and only once questioned my beloved rescue service dog, Annie (My Little Orphan Annie). The atmosphere is low light with an admirable maritime motif. This spot is especially reminiscing for me as a deep sea diver! This jewel is local to my home in the Hyde Park neighborhood of central Austin. I take visiting family and friends here for the quality of all its services. Give it a go!

There's a lot of places to get drinks and food from but there's only one crown & anchor! If you're looking for some of the finest burgers in Austin this is the place. Of course they have just about any beverage that a man or woman and or non-gender alternative to human could ever want. Bathrooms are a little disappointing but that's probably the last reason why you would go to this establishment. Establishment is very clean and staff is friendly and courteous.

What an awesome visit. Crown and Anchor is an Austin classic for a reason, and after a three-decade hiatus, I was completely won over.....again. The atmosphere perfectly preserves its loyal, dive-bar charm and nostalgia, yet the overall cleanliness and maintenance are surprisingly top-notch. It's the best of both worlds! The food truly was a highlight for me. I had a double cheeseburger with fries. It was excellent, instantly reminding me why this place is a fixture. What sealed the deal, however, was the iced tea—as a self-proclaimed snob, I can attest that they absolutely perfected it. This isn't just a blast from the past; it's a quality operation. For sure I won't be waiting another 30 years to go back!

In an increasingly boring and corporate Austin, this place has stayed true to its roots as a local hangout. It’s an absolute hidden gem. I hope it never changes. Food is good, beer selection is surprisingly good, and you get a great mix of pretentious graduate students, yuppies from Hyde Park, bearded old hippies, random stragglers and more. Always lively, and the patio is where all the best convos are happening in Austin.

We went at lunch time and they delivered a solid burger. Decently priced, well cooked, and well apportioned, the burger hit the right level of meat to toppings without getting out of hand. When I was an actual college student this place scared me, it looked old and it didn’t seem like it’d match my alt/whatever vibe but now that I’ve started coming here I wish I could go back to my younger self and slap em. This place is good, like surprisingly so. I’ve never been disappointed with the food or… the beer. They have an incredible selection of beer at a good price, a price college students back then and today can afford. The grilled cheese is amazing, and it’s a little known secret… but the vegan dog, let’s just say if you’re vegan/vegetarian they surprisingly have a good selection of food for ya. It’s bar vegan food but it’s damn good. The staff really makes this place even better. From the bartenders to staff they bring personality that ya don’t find much anymore, it’s a real neighborhood bar despite being tailored to the UT crowd. You’ll find a mix of folks who’ve been coming here since the 80/90s and fresh turned 21 year olds. It’s a great place to watch the Texas game on Saturdays and nfl on Sundays, and apparently they’re a west ham bar on Saturdays when the EPL is on. Whether you’re visiting Austin as a UT Alum from the 90s or a 21 year old current student, I recommend this place as a good, still affordable spot to grab food, drink and have yourself a good time

A regular stop of ours for a draft craft brew. We like it here, & the bartenders are always a good time. This round included burgers & nachos. While it was not a greasy monster 1/2 lb burger like some other places have, it suited me just fine. Reminded me of a dance hall burger. Perfect size, soft, toasted bun, and the fries were the best! The cheese nachos were like homemade, and that was a score with our little man. Bonus: the kitchen is open until midnight! Keeping that in mind next time we can't find anything open at 10pm. The drink menu here is great. A good variety of beer with various sales depending on the day. Sundays they have free pool and most days you can get on the dart boards. The nautical theme gives it nice atmosphere and the staff are always great. The burgers are wonderful and super cheap! Definitely a great place for college kids and neighborhood friends to come eat and drink and relax.

This is a pretty decent bar in the Austin area. It's mostly grad students who hang out there. Lots of outside seating, which is nice. They have a pretty nice beer selection as well. The men's restroom is a bit hard to find (it's not in the main building part - it's just outside). Also, a burger is about $5 and pretty delicious, so that's hard to beat.

1000% loved the nachos! The staff is incredible, and they have local beers on tap. Walking distance to UT, plenty of parking, plenty of room inside and outside. Prices are fair. I will definitely visit again.

It's definitely an old dive (not for the kids), but, it sure is a good deal at lunch or happy hour. Extensive variety of beers, and their sandwiches set the bar high for pub grub. Try a chicken club or a double burger. If there between 2 and 7 on a weekday, get whatever is on the daily special. I'm sure it'll be good.

The bartenders are very knowledgeable about the beer they serve. The tables were dirty. I watched the 1 waitress move chairs and not clean the table for the next customers. I cleaned the same table myself for our party. We ended up sitting in the back playing pool. We had a good time. Lots of college age men and 1 woman at the bar possibly a girlfriend. More seating outside it was very humid, so I do not recommend that. Most of the patrons were enjoying burgers & fries. We should have done the same. Instead, i got chips, salsa and queso, which was very thick and inedible. The salsa was not fresh. No liquor just beer & wine.

Burgers used to be so good. Last two times burgers have been burnt as well as fries. Used to be my favorite place to have a no frills burger. Now it is burnt. And comes out an hour after you order. Don’t know what happened, if they fired a chef, but burgers are almost inedible.

I arrived at this bar to a stifling and humid atmosphere, and a vaguely acrid smell. Like too much cleaning product disguising something more grotesque. I was treated in a hostile manner by the other customers at the bar, as if I were an unwelcomed outsider. I understand it’s a local bar, but this energy doesn’t go far in a big city. I was immediately crowded and pushed up against by several patrons, one of which was barefoot inside the establishment. This gave cause for me to survey the restaurant, almost everyone was sloppy drunk, conducting themselves in a rambunctious and rude manner. I left quickly after one drink, I will not be returning.

Wow. My friend is legally blind and they kept mumbling under their breath making comments thinking he was drunk. Get real be professional and more accommodating. Not coming back.

Burgers are decent (Victory Lap’s are better). Bartender was rude. My first time going I asked for liquor and the lady just replied “no”. After a confused stare from me she rudely added “have you ever been here”. Nope! It was my first and last time going.

I will never visit again. The reviews say this place has great burgers. I ordered a mushroom Swiss burger and fries and only ate them because I was hungry and I will not waste food if I payed for it. If I did not pay for my food when I ordered it I would have walked out do to the time I sat and waited for my lunch. The organization of putting out orders was ridiculous. I was watching people who came in after me receiving food before me. When my food finally came out it looked good but I bet the flavor from the Southside of a boar would have been more appetizing. The price is also way to high for what I received.
