Avis sur Ego's Austin
As someone who loves karaoke, Ego’s just has this magic to it! Here you can be yourself and have fun. The best part is karaoke is 7 days a week. Hopefully I can see you there
It’s a karaoke bar, and all karaoke bars come with their qualms, depending on what you’re looking for of course! The bartenders are friendly, and the drinks are reasonably priced. As a service industry person myself, I commend the staff on dealing with karaoke crowds every day lmfao. Not for the faint hearted. Expect to wait a long time in the queue if you’re coming after 10PM. I’ve come on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. I’ve waited over an hour each time. Not sure if they’re ever slow at night or maybe I’ve just come on particularly busy nights. Just something to keep in mind! Seems to be a popular spots for large groups— particularly coworker groups. May be why the queue is always so long. I’ve never experienced any skipping nor have I seen any successful briberies to skip the line. The KJ Nick is supportive and does a great job highlighting and uplifting everyone that goes up to the mic. The clientele seems to really love rock music, namely dad rock and emo. There isn’t a whole lot of musical diversity across the board from what I’ve seen in my few visits. Personally I love disrupting the vibe with my song choices… but if you’re coming, expect to hear mostly the same type of music with the obvious karaoke go-tos and some outliers. Don’t be afraid to sing what you want even if the crowd isn’t eating it up! Overall I’ve enjoyed my visits at Ego’s and I give a hats off to the crew that makes it all possible. Service industry ain’t easy but especially when you add inebriated karaokers waiting in queue into the mix.
Egos…What can one say? It’s a gem! A world inside a world where you can find the world of misfit toys. Infinite strangeness and eclectic charm engulf the premises. Drinks flow, regulars keep up appearances, singing is beyond compare. No night is the same. Bachelorettes flood at midnight beware. I’ve been coming here for far too long and I never tire of the shenanigans that ensue. If you’re a bore do not disturb!! If you have vacancy for random acts of randomness “come on in” we welcome you! Love you long time!! The staff are like family and I can’t “sing” Egos praises enough. Familiar faces and social graces!! Love this spot!!
i love this spot, the energy is always what you’re looking for. i like the fact that it’s in a parking garage makes it feel like austin still. bartenders are on top of it and the djs are accommodating. good feelings and great crowd.
This place is amazing. The drinks are affordable, the bartender was friendly, and the regulars were welcoming. If you don't like welcoming, inclusive places, keep walking, but if you enjoy a safe space to have a drink and sing a song, you've found it. Fair warning, I understand that the Younglings show up around 11, and they, as they will, will often suck (as it was when I was a Youngling).
Great staff, endless song list, perfect dive bar vibe, solid drinks. They used to serve fruit cups but don’t anymore. So if you’re coming for the fruit cups, watch out. 11/10 “Has Aerosmith pinball but no fruit cups”
AFTERNOON VIBES Whoever the weird girl with straight black hair is needs to go, I think she only works mornings. I never see her at night. My husband and I love going but not when she’s there…..we walk in and right out. It’s not the curly black hair and tattoos bartender, she’s great, welcoming and fast, we love her. I never leave reviews but I’m hoping someone sees this and can agree, the afternoons at egos are not it with straight hair girl there. Bad vibe and lazy. (Everything else about egos is fantastic, Just know what time to go and to not go)
So much fun. Everything was great, however two times I had my drink on the bar and they took it. Kelly was awesome!! Will visit again.
Update a couple of days later: I probably shouldn't have gone to karaoke and found something else to do with my friends instead. There is almost no air circulation in this bar so you're really breathing in a million different microbes :/ at least you're not touching people but still... I want to find a Japanese style karaoke place where each party gets your own room. It's way too close otherwise. There were ceiling fans here that weren't on. Very fun karaoke bar! Had a ton of fun with my friends! People really get into it and make it quite a night to remember. Warning, you need to go to the website listed on the screens, register an account, and then request and favorite songs on the site. My friends requested songs right away and did eventually get to sing their first two! So much fun!! I requested much later just to say I did and luckily I ended up leaving before I was called!!! 😅😅😅. I really don't want to sing myself although the crowd is so supportive. The screens tell you at the top who is up next so if you do end up singing, I would keep an eye on that ticker so you don't miss your call. I loved being part of the crowd! The energy tonight was so great. The bar line was very long though, on a Saturday night. There are screens throughout so the crowd can sing along too with the words as well. I thought it was fun. Someone I met at an Austin restaurant said to arrive before 8 for a chance at a table. We were able to find a table for 4 at 9pm. I do think we took one of the last tables though, so that's something to keep in mind that this bar fills up and it doesn't have unlimited space! The bathrooms were pretty neglected and there was no water left in the big water coolers, so my only choice was to get in line for water, which wasn't ideal, and get $10 minimum of drinks as well so that meant carrying 3 drinks of the two drinks + water. Pool table in the back takes a dollar in quarters.
I was a regular here because I love singing, but the bar staff are just so unfriendly I’m not coming back anymore. If you can put up with that and very long wait times, the crowd is always good, I’ve never heard anyone get booed, and it can be fun. Just not worth it for me anymore.
The service and atmosphere is great! There is no food. The Karoke DJ can have picks, and skip over your performance request without the courtesy of telling you. My party waiting almost a hour to be called for my Karoke performance before we inquired what happened to our turned being that we were first to signed up? To his credit he gave us a opportunity to do a new song, but the thrill to sing my original picked song was long gone.
Bartenders were great. Prices are also great. The regulars there? Mixed bag. If you're a regular it's looks like a great hang. If you're new to the area, like me, you might be better off finding a different karaoke spot. I know I'll be looking.
We went here on a Tuesday night and it was standing room only. We walked in and walked back out. We didn't buy anything so I can't rate the service or food. The crowd/vibe seemed aggressive - or maybe just super in to the guy rapping. We wouldn't go here again.
I've been going to this bar since before I was old enough to drink and am now 44 years old...so I have definitely witnessed this bar at its best and worst. I'd say the bar staff they currently have is the most professional but still hip, convivial and fun, that I've ever seen. There used to be a faction of older and hard core bossy rude sorts of people that made going there not unlike ordering soup from the soup Nazi. From what I gather, they exclusively do karaoke now which didn't used to be the case. It has always been the most fun and coolest place to do it except when Club DeVille made it the fab thing on Tuesdays back in the late nineties/early auts. I must say though....the last time I went was pretty lame. While the bar staff was great, the guy running karaoke was clearly running it in a nepotistic way. It was hours before close and there were not that many people there but everyone who sang appeared to be surprised by being called up to sing...as though they hadn't even signed up. I even offered the DJ money to let my brother and I sing but was rebuffed and told it was "too late and wouldn't matter anyway", whatever that means. It was a sausage fest of an obviously well established and integrated clique. It felt like we were intruding on a teen aged girls birthday party but with maturely aged grown men in birthday tiaras instead. Definitely not how to make money above whatever status quo that group of regulars provides...although, on second thought--they were seriously putting the double cocktails down hard core so maybe they have come by their locale dominance honestly. Who knows? While I like and have liked this place a lot over my 27 years of going....I don't have the time machine to visit when it was fun. Maybe it was an off night?🤷🏻💁🏻🙋🏻💇🏻🤨
We spend 4 hours to sing here, many people sang 4 or 5 times, but the DJ didn't allow us to sing again because of rotation. Don't go there and waste your time trying to sing. The DJ has no brains and was very rude to customers, when raised with the manager of the bar ( a bar tender w pink hair) she defend him and let him do as he wanted; avoid this place, not worth it.
Well if you like hanging out with high school kids, this is the place! I ran into a friend’s Austin High School sophomore here. It was awkward. I attempted to ask the bartender if he would kindly help by charging my dead phone. Before I could ask he told me to leave!! I was not remotely intoxicated! Ego’s does have past TABC infractions and Ego’s has paid TABC fines in the past. This place is a complete mess!
we went today to have fun bought drinks signed up early. My girlfriend and I are professional singers. I saw no one was in front of us so we sat and waited. 10 to 12 people went in front of us And the guy in front of us who pushed me and said, don’t you know how to use the system and sort of punk me intimidated me into choosing a song that I saw him go up and he couldn’t sing to save his life awful singer when I asked the karaoke/host what was going on? He said they were regulars and so they get to go in front of you. If you are a good singer, do not go to emo’s. It’s a bunch of non singees who are friends With the karaoke host. Bad singing and poor professionalism on the count of the DJ definitely will not be back lots of other karaoke places to go to
Front door guy could not understand that my wife is autistic. Instead he assumed that she was drunk because she could not speak clearly I understand to a point what you need to do but you should investigate further. This should not be happening and this night happened October 25th 2025. At this point a hate crime is a hate crime don't go to this place. To the long haired male individual please do better.
I wish I could give 0 stars but that’s not an option. I routinely go to karaoke at least 10-15 times a year and this is the worst karaoke experience I’ve ever had. You would think a “karaoke” bar would have a professional karaoke DJ and not a sweaty many child posing as a KJ. I brought in a group of roughly 30 people from a nearby conference and was the first from the group to sign up to sing. When I asked how long the wait was I was told 2 hours. About 45 minutes later a string of singers from our group that had signed up after me were called up to sing. I once again asked the KJ how long until I was up and was told still another hour and 45 minutes. At this point I asked if I could put in another song to be in line to sing a second time and the KJ said I shouldn’t do that as I’ll be in the rotation and signing up again will mess it up. Now singers who had sang 3 times before were going up for their 4th turn at this point. Finally, 2.5 hours later I was called to sing. A couple singers after my turn I asked when I’d be up again and was told 2 hours. When I asked why people who signed up after me were allowed to go before me I was yelled at and told to get over it. The most ridiculous part is someone from our group asked if I could sign sooner and was told I needed to sign up again, direct contradiction of being told not to sign up again earlier in the night. Overall, this KJ was the most miserable, angry, snippy, whiny child I’ve ever encountered as a KJ. This bar would better off just letting customers pick songs from a jukebox. I will never be back.
