This was not only the best BBQ I have EVER Eaten but it was in fact quite possibly the BEST MEAL I HAVE EVER EATEN. The food is Life Changing. Out of this World 🌎 No other way to describe this place Very appropriately named Interstellar BBQ I arrived about an hour before opening on a Sunday so I expected a line but hey that was the day I was in the area. I got to go in with the 2nd wave of people and everything on the menu was still available It was a birthday meal so I got greedy and went to 4 options. Brisket (of course) , Prime Beef Short Rib, Peach Tea Glazed Pork Belly and a cup of chili with more brisket in it. Prime Beef Short Rib with Chimichurri Sauce was the Absolute Winner 🏆 I will never come here and not order that dish. Trust me you can be Vegan and this will turn you out The Peach Tea Glazed Pork Belly probably wouldn’t be my 1st choice by name but the other reviews hyped it up so much that I had to give it a wirl. It definitely did not disappoint, a soft, tender flavor explosion and the sauce was incredible. I only got 1/4 lb because I had so much other food. I’m so glad they let me do that. I was very rich as I anticipated it might be so with all the other meat 1/4 lb was perfect for me Ok the Brisket aka the Texas BBQ gold. I knew I had to try this. It was sweating as they cut it and smelled like heaven. It did not disappoint at all though I will say as delicious as it was it couldn’t hold a candle to the Beef Short Rib in my humble opinion. If I came back I would still get brisket but maybe a little less just to leave room for the Short Rib which is a big chunk of meat Lastly the chili was great. A little heat spice but huge flavor. Toppings and brisket in it were a perfect blend. The size of the cup was more than enough. At some point I thought I might throw up or explode from all the food I ordered but I couldn’t stop eating. I didn’t even need napkins as I would have eaten a finger to get every drop of the sauces and juices coming from this culinary magic No this is not a paid review. I know it may sound a bit over the top but trust me if your looking for life changing BBQ in Austin this is your spot I know it’s all about Brisket in Texas and this place has that and But Also SOOO MUCH MORE with unique culinary inventions. I have eaten all over the world including Michelin Star restaurants and this place holds its own against any restaurant in the world You have my business forever. Please take my money. Just keep bringing these Incredible Smoked Meats to my plate and my mouth 🤤
Full disclosure, I was at this place due to a relationship to one of the employees. That being said, do not think it will cloud my review or judgement. I have always held myself to the highest standards of honesty when it comes to reviews. This is the best BBQ I've ever had in my life. The ribs, brisket, and sausage were delicious. The pork belly was probably my personal favorite. The right combination of meat, flavor, and fat. Also, the coleslaw is peerless, literally the tastiest coleslaw I've eaten. I've been to countless white people BBQs and Summer parties, the coleslaw here clears them all. Also, the deserts. The banana pudding was great, but the new carrot cake is unreasonably good. I don't know if I've had better carrot cake. Also, the staff was engaging, friendly, and cared about my experience. I met the owner John, and shook his hand. He was happy to have me there and was interested in my visit. I recommend this place wholeheartedly.
Exceptional BBQ Joint! The wait wasn’t nearly as bad as other popular BBQ spots, and the food absolutely delivered. The standout meats for me were the peach tea–glazed pork belly, brisket, short rib, tomahawk steak, and turkey — each one packed with incredible flavor. My only minor gripe was that the sausage was slightly undercooked, making the casing a bit chewy and rubbery. We were also served the smaller end pieces of the ribs, which were slightly dry. That said, the flavor on the ribs was fantastic — I just wish we had gotten the thicker, juicier cuts, especially considering how much we ordered. As for the sides, the Gouda mac and cheese was delicious, while the scalloped potatoes were just a touch dry. And the banana pudding? An absolute must-try. It was downright delicious. After all the savory, salty, rich BBQ, that sweet and creamy bite was pure euphoria — the perfect ending to the meal. Great job, Interstellar! You absolutely met the hype. I don’t expect perfection from restaurants, so the minor issues with the sausage, ribs, and scalloped potatoes didn’t take away from the overall experience. I highly recommend this place and would definitely return.
This BBQ is definitely OUT OF THIS WORLD! 🌎 🚀 Definitely recommend arriving right at the opening hour or shortly after, due to the popularity and the quickly forming line of customers. The average wait time was approximately 1.5 hours to arrive at the counter, order, and be seated quickly. The staff is all very kind and the seating and environment inside is spacious and clean. Highly recommend the peach-glazed pork belly bites seen in the picture as these are by far the best I've ever had yet. Overall, this restaurant is a must-stop site we searched ahead of time before arriving in Austin. I recommend making some time to stop by and check it out, you won't regret it! And make sure not to eat before so you arrive with ample appetite, trust me, you will have leftovers!
Best BBQ I’ve had in my life - everything was to perfection. This is worth coming to and waiting an hour in line. Get here around 10:15. The sides are absolutely incredible - the Mac and cheese and coleslaw especially, but the scalloped potatoes too. We loved the duck, the pork belly, and pulled lamb.
This was just unbelievable. We had five guys take this restaurant on. We showed up at 10:00 as we wanted to make sure we were first in line. The staff, when they opened, helped walk us through how much we should get for the five of us. They also recommended we do half sweet tea and half unsweetened peach tea, which was amazing. We finished the whole tray, and I’d love to describe what we ate, but that’s impossible. It was truly the best food I’ve ever had. The best part is the owner came up and talked to us. They were so nice and down-to-earth. Michelin star worthy, truly.
First time trying this establishment. The brisket was expertly prepared. Excellent bark, smoke ring, moist, and tender. It was a little salty for me. The pork ribs also were delicious. A nice rub and just a little sweetness. The 1963 sausage had good flavor but the casing was a little tough. The gouda mac-n-cheese was lip smacking good. The smoked scalloped potatoes didn't have much of a smoke flavor but were still good. We didn't care for either bbq sauce but recommend the pickle and onion garnish. I spoke with the owner and the pit master. The pit master spent a good 10 minutes with me. I learned a few things and appreciate the conversation. Indoor/outdoor seating. January and February are low season with about 30 minute lines until 1230, no line when we left at 1pm.
Absolutely phenomenal food! Hands down best sausage of my life (and the entire group shared the sentiment)! They had great traditional sides. The Mac and Cheese is a must order. We went on a Sunday and they had tomahawk Ribeye steaks as one of the specials. It was cooked extremely well and had a nice smoky flavor. The brisket and lamb were also high quality. Arrived about an hour and half before opening. We were the 3rd group in line. The line can take some time, so I do recommend arriving early with your group and just include hanging out as part of the experience!
Interstellar BBQ in Austin is seriously amazing and it’s even Michelin recognized. The brisket and prime ribs are solid, and the sausage is really good too. The service is super friendly and welcoming, and the vibe in the place is just great, fun and relaxed. They’ve got a cool little souvenir section as well. No joke, if you’re anywhere near Austin, stop whatever you’re doing and go try this place. This isn’t just good, it’s epic. Everything is fresh, flavorful, and done right. I’ll definitely be coming back next time I’m in town.
Some of the most creative bbq I’ve ever had. Everything was amazing. I only wish I brought people with me so i could try more of the menu. You can’t go wrong with anything they have here. Definitely suggest bringing 3-4 people here so everyone can try different items on the menu. The peach tea glazed pork belly is a must. Chimmichurri makes everything better and helps cut through the fatty meats. All the sides are amazing too
BBQ for foodies! I loved the twists this place has to its bbq, along with a Michelin star. I got the beef rib with chimichurri, peach tea pork belly, jalepeno popper sausage, scalloped potatoes, mac cheese, and banana pudding. The only change I would have made is to skip the mac n cheese, it wasn’t necessary with the potatoes and the latter won for me. I went on Friday, arriving about 15 min before opening (10:45), there were about 40-45 people ahead of me. An hour after opening it was my turn to order. Once I had gotten inside, there were about 15 people waiting in line inside. Nothing sold out.
This was my first time and it was worth the wait and met all expectations. Since there were 3 of us and we waited so long, we basically ordered almost everything on the menu even though we had a wedding later in the evening. Ordered the brisket, short rib, pulled lamb, pork belly, pork ribs, piri piri chicken, Polish sausage with South Texas pork hash, mac and gouda, scallop potatoes, and gold potato salad. Everything was great. My favorites are the pork belly, brisket, sausage, mac and gouda, and scallop potatoes. Get there early to get in line and find a parking spot!
Ok let me first preface this review that this comes from a vegetarian! Yes yes I know, why would a vegetarian come to a barbecue restaurant? Well sometimes you have friends/family that are craving barbecue and meat and you don’t want to be left out as you still want to be social and don’t miss out on hanging out with them. However, I am always very appreciative when barbecue place does accommodate vegetarians even if it isn’t their specialty. I super super appreciate that their sides are not only delicious, but a step above just the classic sides. We arrived on Sunday at 12:40 PM and waited close to an hour and a half before getting to the front to order. I will say on weekends even though they are open until 3/4 PM, they us usually sell out by 2-2:30 PM easily. For the sides, I got the smoked Gouda Mac and cheese, zucchini and tomato salad, mushroom frito pie and scalloped potatoes. I was unable to unfortunately enjoy the complimentary beans as those were swimming in meat fat, so just a heads up for those who wants the beans thinking it’s vegetarian. The mushroom frito pie was nice and smoky with the crumbled mushroom on top and I really appreciated the fresh elements of tomato and almost like a nice green goddess dressing on top to cut through the savoriness of the mushrooms. The smoked Gouda mac and cheese were delicious as it uses large shell pasta. The scalloped potatoes were also very good - smoky and surprisingly not too heavy considering scallop potatoes can often be swimming in butter. I really enjoyed the simplicity of the tomato zucchini salad with purple onions - the dressing on it was just light enough to help balance out all the heavier sides and actually honestly my favorite side because it was refreshing and had good flavor and texture. Unfortunately they were sold out of the banana pie by the time we got there so that’s what I would like to try dessert time next time. Parking is easy with free lot in front shared with strip mall.
Yes I had doubts. I thought bbq is bbq. But I was wrong and this is the BEST bbq spot I’ve been to. The pork belly was SO good and unique. The peach tea glaze complemented the meat so well. The duck leg special was just as amazing. Also get the sides. I love potatoes so if you love potatoes you’ll love the scalloped potatoes. Now don’t skip on dessert either. That peach cobbler rice pudding is to die for. I’m just glad I was able to get the last one available. And you just can’t complain about waiting in a line. We probably waited maybe 30-40min. It’s inevitable and they do their best to communicate/update their supplies as the line moves along so you can decide if you want to keep waiting or not.
Great Barbeque- it lives up to the hype! There was already a line forming before their 11 opening on a Wednesday morning. We waited for about 45 minutes before we went in. Ordered everything so we can taste it. Pork ribs were fabulous, glazed pork belly was okay- a little too sweet. Beef and brisket all delicious. The Mac and cheese, mashed potato and slaw sides complemented the Barbeque. Definitely a winner. Highly recommended.
We took a BBQ vaca to Texas this week and we tried Leroy and Lewis, Burnt Bean and Interstellar. I don’t even know how Texas Monthly ranks these places. They’re all so good and each one excels in their own unique ways. Will have plenty to munch on as leftovers tonight, but everything we ate was amazing. I think from my opinion Interstellar is set apart because they balance the rich flavors or the meats with fresh and vibrant sauces. Probably why the short rib with chimichurri, lamb taco and piripiri chicken were my best bites of the week! Sooooo so good! You guys are killing it and your sides were all my favorite of the week too! Everything pictured: Lamb Taco (best taco I’ve ever had!) Brisket Pork ribs Beef ribs with chimichurri (favorite bite) Peach tea glazed pork belly Jalapeno popper sausage Piri piri chicken (2nd favorite bite) Scallop potatoes (so good) Cream corn (wowza!) Gouda mac Jalapeno slaw (favorite side) Banana pudding (solid banana pudding) Peach cobbler rice pudding (not too sweet and packed with flavor) #interstellarbbq #texastop50bbq
This place has a Michelin star for a reason, friends! Get in line early before open (on a weekday if you have the ability!). Try as much as you can stomach, but bring friends! We had 1/2lb of the fatty brisket, 1/2lb of the pork belly, 1/2lb of the pork ribs, 1 pint of the smoked gouda mac n cheese, 1/2 pint of the poblano creamed corn, and 1/2 pint of the scalloped potatoes, as well as fresh house made tortillas. Every single bite was a fantastic experience. The meat was so flavorful that the house BBQ sauces were not even necessary. I wil be visiting here again upon the next visit to ATX!
Such a great spot. Went on a random Wednesday I had free around lunchtime. They open at 11, I arrived at 11:45 - already a big wait, which is well deserved. We waited around 45 minutes before getting to the ordering counter. Was able to get brisket, the peach tea pork belly, and sausage (brisket sold out maybe around 1 pm). Highly recommend that pork belly and brisket. They were unbelievable. The Mac and cheese was amazing and we also got some pinto beans which were not on the menu but they had!

Could not wait try Interstellar BBQ. There was a line on a Sunday morning 1 hour before opening that took an hour to get inside to order, so 2 hours in line. The staff kept everybody informed about the specials of the day and what to expect to sell out first. We sampled the brisket, peach pork burnt ends, the gouda mac and cheese and scalloped potatoes. Everything was good with a noticeable quality of ingredients and effort to prepare. Overall, I would try it again to sample other menu items, but this trip was a little bit disappointing. The hype was almost correct about the food. We had better brisket at other places, but the mac and cheese was by far the best. Didn't enjoy standing in line for 2 hours when it seemed it could have gone a little quicker upon opening the doors. They are slow to get people's orders and food out to them. This place is still better than most BBQ joints we've been to.
Brisket for the win! They gave a sample that had a bit of fat and it was sooo good. Tried the peach pork belly, also very good. I did not get the over smoked or artificial peach taste others were talking about. They offered sliced T.Hawk with Chimichuri...meh! Difficult to go from juicy tender brisket to something that needed more work to chew on. Turkey...won't be getting that again. I'm open to new stuff but wasn't prepared for the experimental turkey. Turkey texture, but didnt taste like turkey. Don't know what it was. Sausage was pretty good! Beans were good! Scalloped potatoes also were good. If I return, skipping the turkey and skipping the t.hawk and will use that money on other items. Waited over an hour. If you have the patience it's worth a try. Otherwise just go to Smokey Moes or Poke-Jo's for quick BBQ fix or place your order in advance.
Got really excited to finally try but overall wasn’t as impressive as it’s made to sound. Drove 1.5hrs , waited 2 hrs in line, spent $125 … it’s one and done for me. It’s great if you live in the area. No plate options so expect to dish out $$$if you want to try everything. - brisket had good flavor but not as juicy/tender as everyone makes it - pork belly were tender (not juicy) and good flavor (my fave of the three) - beef short ribs were dry and decent flavor. - mac and cheese were really good - cream corn is nothing to brag about Recommend ordering sandwiches they offer instead if you won’t want to spend that much. 🤣 Decent indoor seating and more benches outdoor.
Come hungry, stay happy. Worth every minute. This was my second visit to Interstellar BBQ. The first time, I waited over an hour in line only to find most items sold out. The pork ribs were just okay, and the sausage wasn’t anything special, though the mac & cheese was excellent. Yesterday I got lucky: almost no line! I waited 30–40 minutes, and this time I finally got to try the full menu and wow, totally different experience. The turkey sandwich surprised me in the best way. I’m not usually a turkey fan, but it was juicy, flavorful, and a great choice if you’re skipping red meat. The short ribs with chimichurri were a highlight: tender, rich, and packed with flavor. Highly recommended. The special of the day, a lamb leg barbacoa, was absolutely delicious melt-in-your-mouth perfection. And yes, the mac & cheese remains a must-order. Another huge plus: the staff is incredible. Friendly, smiling, and so welcoming from the pit masters to the sides team, cashier, and even the crew outside clearing tables. If you’re in Austin and love BBQ, Interstellar is a must-try. Just arrive early… the good stuff goes fast.
It's good BBQ, was it the best BBQ I've had? No, but it was good. Was it worth the wait? No, specially when BBQ with higher ratings are a dime a dozen but it was near by and I was hungry. Because of the large line, you felt pressured to quickly make a decision almost questioning what you ordered afterwards. You felt rushed. Their brisket was the best, the lamb probably the worst, hard and cold. Their sausage options were great. Overall, spent over $70 for what I ordered but did have leftovers and had a second meal. Will I come back here when in Austin again? Probably not.

I’m a first-time visitor, but I’ll never be returning. We spend $125 for 2 people. The brisket and short rib were way too salty and heavily seasoned. My friend warned me against trying it, but I was intrigued by the Michelin-starred recommendation. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. On the positive side, the lamb taco and peach-glazed pork belly were not overly salty and stood out from other BBQ places I’ve visited. The pork rib, however, was just average and felt dry.
Had the turkey and pork butt, both horrible. More fat than meat on the pork. Some side was supposed to be hash , but got rice with blob of brown stuff. Much better barbecue in Austin other parts of…
