Opted for double cheeseburger, fries and Karbach Free & Easy (non-alcoholic)!
It's a typical pub type of setup. Order at the bar and choose to either sit at the bar, one of the inside or outside tables. I sat at the bar, so I'm not sure if they have a waitress that comes to the tables or if you just go up to the bartender whenever you need something. I'm a fan of classic cocktais, so I ordered a black manhattan. No regrets It was quite excellent and I savored it. Mostly out of curiosity - but I was also starting to pick up on the decidedly New Orleans vibe - I ordered the shrimp poboy. When I bit into it, I almost fell out of my chair! If I had been wearing glasses, I would have thrown them... It was *exactly* a New Orleans poboy. As soon as I bit into it, I knew the owner of this place is SERIOUS about the quality of the food they serve. Here's the deal: New Orleans poboys are made on a French baguette. But when the baguette is made using water sourced from the lower Mississippi River delta, it rises less and the outer layer takes on a characteristic crunchiness and flaky quality. This makes sandwiches made in NOLA unique because that bread cannot be duplicated anywhere else in the world. Now you see why I was so impressed. These lunatics import the bread they use just to make this one sandwich from Gambino's bakery to ensure perfect authenticity. They do this and do not mention it on the menu. They won't even say anything about it unless you notice it and bring up the subject. I think that tells you everything you need to know about this place right there
The service and food were awesome. Nick was very friendly and took care of our group. The burgers, tendies, fries and tater tots were all so good!
We had delivery. Food was very good! We will be ordering more from here! Try the cheeseburger and fries.
I'm posting a 2nd glowing review bc this place deserves it. So you could go to a bunch of steakhouses in Austin and spend 50+ dollars on a steak plate.... I would go out on a limb and say not only will you spend more money but you may not find as good as a steak that Kate will make you at The Cavalier on a Thursday night only. Prepare yourself for a fat and juicy perfectly prepared NY Strip steak with chimmichurri and butter on top. I hate how good the fries are bc I don't want to eat them and the chefs kiss of the meal is to split the rocket salad as an add on. Drinks were on point as always. Literally 5 star food for a 2 star cost. Keep doing what you are doing Cav- I hope the owners cherish how amazing of a staff they have ❤️
The food here is unreal. I am in the skee ball league that is hosted at The Cavalier and have managed to try everything on the menu and most of the many specials they’ve had since Brewskee Ball moved to The Cavalier and it’s all 10/10. The staff is the best - it’s a really great spot with awesome tunes, great regulars, TVs for sports and niche culture classic movies, unbeatable atmosphere. Love coming here!
We moved from Austin 7 years ago to retire in Mexico. The East Side was always “our area” and the section we called home in Austin. We come back to visit for a month or so each year and so much has changed in this city we love. While The Cavalier was not here when we left, it now welcomes us home each year when we return. It reminds us so much of the old Austin we love! Affordable, good tasting food, fantastic drinks that don’t break the bank and a kind caring staff who make you feel like family! A special thanks to Tom, Mike, Rachel, Charlotte & Hunter! Y’all made The Cavalier feel like our home away from home during our 2025 visit. Your kindnesses, service and great attitudes overwhelmed us this trip! Thanks for helping “Keep Austin Weird” and fabulous! See ya again next year! ❤️ Chuck & Tom
Great food. Great service. Great atmosphere! Me and partner went here for a quick bite after apartment searching all day. They had a $10 deal of a corona and a shot of tequila and it was BOGO burger Monday so you get 2 burgers for the price of one! super great deal and the burgers are pretty big as well! My partner got an amazing chicken sandwich and the sauce in the sandwich was absolutely perfect! sweet and savory! The playlist was absolutely perfect and we will definitely be back!
Came to The Cavalier for wings and deviled eggs but arrived during brunch hours instead. No regrets—the chicken biscuit with spicy honey butter and chicken and waffles were outstanding. The waffle, surprisingly, was the highlight of the meal. Fried chicken was flavorful and well-seasoned. A solid beer selection and a decent cabernet blend made for a well-rounded meal. The outdoor seating was comfortable, with fans and misters to keep things cool. Would love to return for their regular menu!
The fried chicken & beignets are SO delicious. Definitely some of the best seasoned fried chicken I've had in Austin. I also ordered a bacon burger, and that was also top notch! The bloody mary mix is delicious, and you have to try the Electric Jellyfish Michelada. 5 stars all the way around, I will return here to try "The best chicken sandwhich is Austin" after trying the chicken & beignets.
You walk in and order from the bar and choose to leave the tab open or close out. It's self seating and they will give you a number and bring your ordered items out to you. I ate the deviled eggs and the gumbo. The deviled eggs were so creamy and delicious I only would of added more hot sauce for July liking but they were good. The gumbo was warm and flavorful, it had a lot of green chilies in so it was a little spicy.
Good prices, extremely kind staff. Patio can fill up, but early evening weekdays I’ve never had an issue finding a spot. Pool table and 4 dartboards. The veggie burger is one of the best I’ve had in the city!! Doesn’t fall apart, and has a high quality bun. One of my favorite spots for something more laid-back but not uptight.
One of my favorite neighborhood bars! Their food is great and they do offer different options for brunch. They are also one of the Austin FC Official bars and I love seeing other fans there to enjoy the game. They have a pool table and darts inside; outside you'll find a good amount of seating since they've converted part of the parking lot in in patio. They are also very much dog friendly and even have treats at the bar! They have recently opened up Wicky's Walk Up which has also has a great menu and different drink options. Don't forget they have Drag Brunch on Sundays and buy one get one Burger Night on Mondays. Highly recommend this place.
I’ve been here with friends for drinks and the pool table but who knew the Cavalier had bomb crawfish! They had a Crawfish Boil this past weekend with a Dj and extra tables out back. This was my first time having whole crawfish and I’m glad I had it here; there was so much robust flavor going on with not only the crawfish, but the corn, potatoes and sausage. All of my drinks were on point and definitely got the job done! The staff were awesome and one of the owners made sure he went around to make sure that we were satisfied and even gave free beers to those that ordered crawfish! The Cavalier has always had good vibes and even better drinks, I hope they can continue to do crawfish boils for as long as they’re in season
Best burger in Austin. This place is severely underrated. We also got the green chile grits which were dry and needed seasoning. Will definitely come back for the burger though.
Came for brunch with my girlfriend and some friends. I had the build your own biscuits and gravy with two biscuits, add a fried egg and bacon. It was really good, one of the best biscuits and gravy I have ever had. My girlfriend got the chicken and waffles which was very good also. I lived in Nola and this dish was very similar to one I had for brunch there. There were two bartenders (you order at the bar), service was eh. It’s a very laid back place but almost not attentive. One thing that did annoy me was their website says “favorite non sports bar to watch sports”, they only have 3 tvs. Only 1 was actually turned on, and not on sports. On a day with nfl preseason games and first day of college football. There is a pool table and 3 dart boards here too. Also have frozen dog treats for $1.
The bartender was very rude yesterday and didn’t seem queer friendly. Not friendly and even openly celebrated to other customers when a group came in and left after reviewing the menu. Might have also been the aggressive rap music playing as well.
The Cavalier is a neighborhood bar known for its brunch and drinks so I had to give it a try. I got the bacon and egg biscuit which was pretty good and a side waffle. The waffle I wouldn’t get again as it had a strange flavor like lemon rind in the batter, not too sure what it was. The bartenders were nice and it was a good place to stop in on Sunday for brunch.
The bartender here is a thief! I ordered food and drinks, asked to close out my tab, and he swiped my card and gave it back. He opened two bottles of Mexican Coke and even filled a Diet Coke, but never handed me a receipt to sign. Instead, he got on the phone and ignored me. After waiting a bit, I decided to take the drinks to my table and came right back, maybe 10 seconds later, to sign my tab. That’s when he claimed they automatically add a 25% “walk-off” tip and refused to correct it. Dishonest staff and shady practices, avoid this place!
