Avis sur Vic & Al's Austin
10s across the board! The atmosphere, customer service, and food were top tier. The catfish was fried to perfection, If you like it crispy ask for it well done. The red beans and rice, whew, so flavorful and the beignets were amazing. They definitely know that they’re doing. If you’re in the area, stop by. So worth it.
THE REAL DEAL! such great soul food! it is a classy spot at a solid price. you will love it!!!!!!!! thank you Jesus!!!!
I came into Vic and Al’s for lunch by myself to have a quick meal before leaving Austin. Every one of the staff members was attentive, friendly and informative. The bartender Nick was kind enough to give me samples of the cocktails before buying one(I only needed one sample because it was delicious). I got the half pulled pork po boy and half gumbo and it was so good I got another combo to go(this time with red beans and rice). I will definitely be back to try other variations of their menu and if you’re considering going you will not be disappointed.
Sat on the patio in the gorgeous weather yesterday but also would have enjoyed sitting inside. Love the decor in this place. The service was A1 (friendly, helpful, smiles all around). Great happy hour prices on apps! The gumbo, red beans and rice, and boudin were all great. And the (fried) bread pudding... so good!
So yummy! Definitely do family style. We had the pork with rice, boudin, gumbo, beans, corn dogs, po boy sandwich and beignets. We all agreed that although the corn dogs were tasty, they could be skipped. Do NOT skip the boudin or the gumbo - so incredibly good we were tempted to order another round. Everything was very tasty. Cocktails were amazing - especially the ‘orange drink’! Very cozy and lots of seating.
Real Cajun food on a limited menu along with a bar offering unique cocktails and mocktails. Yes, it's spicy, and the gumbo is thick and hearty. We ordered at the kitchen counter and our food was brought out to our table. The seating is family style so be prepared to share a long table with other diners. I will definitely come back for dinner next time I'm in Austin.
This place is totally unique in decor and service. It's a secret that you must discover by visiting this restaurant. We order their cocktails. Then we ordered 2 orders of Gumbo and Fried Boudin and Blackened Salmon Po boy. The food was served heat hot and fresh with lots of flavor and season to perfection. Everything this is in house prepared. It h my goodness the Gumbo was mmmmm good. Everything was oh, oh so good. You must make this place a priority to stop in and try for self. We will definitely be back when we're back in town. Hats off to the Chef.
We had our first visit to Vic and Al’s and really enjoyed the experience. From the start, we were greeted warmly at the front, given an overview of the place, and even offered a couple of non-alcoholic drink samples that double as their base for signature cocktails. We tried two cocktails — the Hurricane and a cucumber-based drink — both were excellent and not overly sweet. For happy hour, we ordered the Boudin Balls, Red Beans and Rice, and Gumbo, then finished with the Beignets. Everything was flavorful, well-prepared, and true to New Orleans-style cooking. Service was great, prices were reasonable, and the overall vibe felt welcoming and relaxed. Definitely recommend for anyone who loves Cajun or Creole food. Make your first visit during happy hour (Monday through Friday, 3–6 PM) — it’s a perfect intro to what they do best. Negative: the parking lot is awful.
Had a wonderful experience here with a large group of friends. The space is a lot larger with the recent expansion which accommodated our party. The catfish was beautifully seasoned and the beans and rice were vegetarian and wonderfully flavorful! Cocktails were expertly made and delicious. The Beignets were perfectly just like the ones you get in the French quarter. And lastly the corn dog was the best corn dog I have ever had ❤️ I will definitely be back
Exceptional Cajun cuisine in Austin which has the real Lafayette Louisiana taste of food. Each single dish served here has been served with fresh herbs and spices unique to that region . Truly unique and delicious. The pork poor boy was so good and the quail canjean stuffed rice was the most delicious thing.
Service was wonderful, and food was amazing. We had a play on eggs Benedict, but with shrimp and the shrimp were cooked perfectly and that sauce was delicious. We also had the catfish and it was probably one of the best grilled catfish I’ve ever had. Had the gumbo, beets, and boudin and it was all so so so good! We had a NA drink and a drink drink and both were well made and tasty. The people there were so courteous, friendly and explained everything very well. The ambiance is really cute. Definitely a place to come back to!
Upscale Cajun fine dining yet with counter service so you can eat without breaking open the piggy bank! Their menu changes frequently and I was lucky enough to be there when they served the "Riz Jaune" (pictured) which is a yellow rice, corn, and egg dish, with great chunks of bacon and a luscious sauce. 10/10 My only concern is that this dish may be habit forming. I also ordered the beignets, and if I'm being picky they were very slightly over-fried but the dough and sugar were perfect. 9.5/10. Lastly, I got an Arnold Palmer from the bar, which was one of the best I've ever had, just wish it was taller.
Vic and Al's is a restaurant where we just feel at home. We go there to celebrate rate our biggest events (I got takeout which I brought to the hospital the day our son was born) and when we need some comfort - like last week after a tough day. Everything is scratch made and you can taste it. The corn dogs are a guilty pleasure we get every time, but no matter what we order we love it. We saw crab cakes on the menu for the first time recently and were amazed by how good they were! I had to remind myself to stop gorging and take a picture. The jambalaya is extraordinary, as are the salads. Happy hour is a great deal - and though the hurricane is our favorite the purple drink was really enjoyable. Beyond great food though is just a friendly home like experience. Thanks team for always making us feel so welcome!
The very best Cajun restaurant I’ve ever had; including those in Baton Rouge and New Orleans! Their cocktails are amazing; very reasonably priced. It’s a bit confusing system for ordering (order cocktails first then walk to the food ordering section). Staffs are super friendly. My highest recommendation!
I LOVE their rice and chicken (so tinder and full of flavor). Their food feels like a good home cooked meal, minimal ingredients but rich in flavor and it never makes me feel bloated. The ambience is so cozy and warm. But the music is too overstimulating for my liking (that’s subjective tho). Forgot the host’s name, but he’s wonderful and has the most welcoming energy.
Very friendly staff, Pretty atmosphere and food was delicious. Gumbo and blackened Catfish over greens were my favorite. We also had red beans and rice lastly red beat salad for lunch. Desert was bread pudding and begnets both were great. I’d suggest the begnets with the fancy coffee, amazing combo.
We've been to Vic & Al's a few times now, and I'm always so impressed. The indoor space is intimate, but manages to not feel cramped. They have TONS of outdoor seating to supplement. The staff seem to work together so seamlessly and proactively provide info and guidance. The food is always fresh, tasty and well priced. The drinks (they have great cocktails and mocktails) are inventive and highlight their house made ingredients. The aesthetic and vibe are immaculate - great for a date night or casual meal with friends. We'll definitely be coming back and bringing friends! Edit to add kudos to the team: The people that work there are phenomenal. This restaurant is delicious, but it's the people that really complete the experience. Highlights include: Danny (and every bartender here) is a great bartender. She gave us amazing recommendations, answered our questions and was an absolute treat to chat with. Travis is a lovely person, helpful, kind, funny and so knowledgeable about the restaurant. Riley always has great recommendations, and guides you through the menu like a pro. Everyone I've encountered here made me feel welcome and you can tell they like to work here.
Self standing ordering drinks, Cocktails and mocktails. My friend ordered an ice tea and the poor bartender desperately looking to show off his skills…”sweetened or lemon?” Nope… He sighs twirls the glass, adds ice, grabs a small vessel filled with brown liquid flicks his wrist twisting the liquid inside. Then he pours the tea into the glass. And for you sir Water. We are explained thru the steps. Order food at a different counter. If you want more to drink, get up and go see the bartender. Good size menu, Mini rectangular aluminum food trays for plates. I ordered the blackened catfish, great. I would like it, a little crispy on the edges, but delicious. Red beans and rice, was ok. Imo, just needed more spice. My picky friend really liked the chicken and beignets. I thought the inside design is tasteful and calm.
My friend and I tried Vic and Al’s for brunch. The food is fresh and made from scratch, so the quality is very good. We ordered the Breakfast Hash and the Catfish! Also, my friend ordered the Hurricane mocktail and loved it! The ambiance is great, and I like the decorations. The one minus is the weird system they have set up where you have to open a tab immediately upon walking in. Also, the parking lot in the back is a disaster, so avoid at all costs.
Was expecting more from this place! The staff was really friendly, meeting Rob and all of the folks there was really fun. The food portions were kind of small for the price, the menu changes a lot and what I had came there to get was not there and that was a bit frustrating but overall really great food! I definitely recommend the black and catfish if you have the opportunity to get it! Great location, really dope area
this is a very good spot to eat at! the food never ever misses. & if you don’t like their food your tastes buds probably need to mature more lol the place is beautiful, however, i was a little upset the other day. I feel like one of the waiters was rushing us to leave and we’ve done a to go order & they had us waiting there forever until my boyfriend went up to the lady and asked us where our food was. mind you it took them like 45 minutes to bring our to go food out. we’re very patient & I used to work in the food industry so I understand that people can be busy. but there was barely any people there. they all looked at eachother and everyone seemed confused & instead of giving us the shrimp they ended up giving us chicken, which was still good just not what we asked for. but the place is still good & will recommend anyone giving this place a shot. it was our first time having that type of encounter so hopefully it doesn’t happen again. other than that great place
The menu was much smaller than we expected, but we enjoyed the food and drinks here. The catfish was flavorful and tender, and the chicken was fried crispy and juicy. The beignets were just beignets. The gumbo was on the saltier side, but with the long-grain rice, it was good comfort food. The service was really warm and nice. The only issue was that if you sat outside, be prepared for aggressive flies constantly trying to land on your food. There were a lot of them, and they were hard to deter.
It was a different experience. You walk in ... wait for a server to take your CC and give you a table spoon, you order from the bar that took about 10 mins from Travis as he serves one person at a time, then you walk to the kitchen to order with your drink at your hand before f9ndingnyour table. Everyone was extremely polite. The menu changes 2x per day per the person at the kitchen register so its a crap shoot of a menu. The chicken and beignets had well done chicken as were the bonding balls. The flavor was ok on everything but nothing currently excites me to give it another shot.
Why does Austin love waiting in line? At Vic and Als you get to wait in 2 lines. I was greeted, and was put on the spot to immediately start a credit card tab before ordering anythingor seeing a menu.(I like to pay cash) I was informed, this is room was where to line up for drinks. And the other room was to line up to order food. There were no hard copy menus to be had. And, I sat patiently waiting for my companion. The food was not remotely Cajun. The shrimp and grits were bland. The pork po boy had a sweetness like Nutmeg or something not expected or welcomed. We asked a staff member what the flavor was. She said "Cajun aoli" (nope) then said "chicory " it was obvious we didnt like it. It was obvious she didnt care. We also had beets and corn dogs. The beets were served chilled. But none of the other food was even warm. The fried oysters were delicious. After ordering food at 1 line. Drinks at a second. We went back a 3rd time to pay. The woman who "answered" the questions about the po boy was the person who accepted our payment. She didnt bother to ask if we'd enjoyed our meal or anything. No one cleared any dishes from our table. I'm struggling to find why people love the food here. And, why oh why does Austin love waiting in line. I'm genuinely curious why vic and als doesn't offer table service. We definitely would've gotten another drink if it were offered and delivered with no line. We were so disappointed with everything. Dai Due next door saved the evening with dessert and true hospitality
