Costa Azul Mariscos & Micheladas

Just left Costa Azul for the second time and still love their Ostiones Costa Azul, fresh Oysters with 3 different toppings. Super fresh! And tasteful! The drinks have also been great and ‘good value’ so to speak! (We appreciate a good Tiki drink -for reference.) The staff is lovely and tentative, to boot! It’s definitely one of the restaurants on our ‘regular’ go-to list!

The oysters were huge and delicious. The food portions are large and the Michelada was amazing. Highly recommend for the food. We went about 3pm and it wasn’t busy so that was nice. I say it’s kid friendly. Atmosphere was pretty basic.

Food was delicious- best ceviche I’ve had in a very long time. The tostada was loaded with ceviche, I could’ve easily just eaten this for my meal! Tacos were delicious, oysters were nice and refreshing. We will definitely be back.

Wow! This was my first time here and I’m a Bastropian local! I’ve lived here for years and never tried because I’m not a huge seafood Eater. My boyfriend is…. And loved it!! To all my NON SEAFOOD eaters…. This place has a ton of options for you too! I loved my enchiladas, drinks, queso, and even his seafood! I would absolutely recommend everyone come try it out. The service is amazing. Very nice, bilingual, and knowledgeable staff. Thankful for the experience and just made this my go to spot! Can’t wait to come back.

I’ve been wanting to eat here since they opened and today was the day! Holy cow, what an amazing dining experience. The queso was so creamy and smooth, I highly recommend as an appetizer. Micheladas are my favorite and Costa has the best I’ve ever tried. The flavor leaves me wanting another. Very tasty. I ordered the shrimp tacos. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and was full of flavor, the sauce was over the top delicious. I chose refried beans for my side. I had no clue refried beans could taste so good. I can’t say enough good about Costa Azul, and can’t wait to go back. The atmosphere is bright and cheery, the staff make the experience even better.

Out of control delicious food! Someone’s abuela is back there cooking it up! Fantastic Micheladas, excellent queso with just the right amount of spice. I got the Costa Azul Shrimp with rice, super flavorful. Delicious creamy sauce! Hubby got Birria Quesadillas. Perfection!

This is my go to from here on out. The food, service and atmosphere are all great. Didn’t have to wait long and the restaurant is clean. Today I got the Costa Azul Pasta with a bottled Corona dressed. Will definitely be back! Thanks Jackie for your professionalism.

We had not patronized Costa Azul in a while. Bad move! Azul has completely updated their menu and it is a SCORE!!! So many intriguing options to choose from. Known for their quality and tasty seafood "mariscos" ...they also have a good variety for those without a taste for the sea. To start, we highly recommend their guac with grilled shrimp and if you like spice, they keep several salsa options with peppers local to the Nayar mountains. Put a few drops of that on your guac... yahhh baby! Now main course ... so much to pick from. Try the Costa mix for all shrimp lovers. Shrimp 5 ways!! It's just amazing. Spectacular!! The fajita mix is so freaking on point it's just wow with fantastic tortillas that have to be handmade. Service is so nice and attentive. Very casual almost takes me back to the South America. Fellow foodie lovers Hint: *** Both the Costa mixa green sauce and brown sauce pairs with the fajita shrimp, chicken and beef by the way. Omg!! And certainly don’t forget the bar with many cocktail and beer mix options. Try a michelada

We stopped in today for the first time. The staff was so friendly, the food was delicious and very flavorful. Will definitely take the 45 minute drive out, again.

Great food and atmosphere. The fresh diced cucumber in the shrimp cocktail was refreshing. I recommend that and the El Patron shrimp

Food was ok we had the patrona tower, a quesadilla plate oyster shots, and of course the michaladas (chema/classic)were good little bit fishy but figured this was because its a sea food restaurant. It does get tricky when ordering the michaladas it's only the mix they prepare for a certain price then your charged for the beer separately depending on what kind of beer you want. The only issue here was as soon as you walk in it smelled so strong of Fabuloso and using too much cleaning product sometimes the food and ice start to taste like the cleaning product used (ice). Our bill was around 85 dollars without the tip!

Ordered the coconut shrimp; left very disappointed. The wait staff we're still friendly and attentive, but the meal just wasn't good. The rice was mushy and had an odd flavor. The shrimp was hot, but didn't taste very good. The Mango sauce was little to no help there. The iceberg lettuce and grated carrot salad was about as exciting as a coach class airline salad at best. Nice enough people, but at the price of dining out these days, you have to bring your A game on the meal. I'm giving them two stars essentially for the Chips/Salsa and Iced tea. Everything was very fresh and delicious. I had the La Reina tower and it's easily enough food for two so don't let the $25 price tag sway you. The sauce definitely has a spicy kick to it. My server Jackie was great, very attentive. My drink never was less than half full. The additional wait staff continually check in as well, almost "too attentive". They seem very customer focused and are turning out some delicious ceviche. It's BYOB so if you need a Corona to wash it down, just bring your own and they will provide the ice bucket.

I don’t want to speak badly about this place, but I do want to share the facts about our experience. My family of four (two adults and two toddlers) went in for dinner last night. We understand that some restaurants don’t allow outside food or drinks, but since this was our first time visiting and one of our children has a seafood allergy, we brought Happy Meals for the kids just in case there wasn’t anything suitable for them on the menu. We were even flashing the happy meals to the hostess when we arrived, and she seated us across the restaurant without issue. A few minutes later, she returned and said they could not serve us due to the outside food. I explained the situation about the allergy , and she said she would check. We saw her speaking to someone that appeared to be another waiter and returned saying, unfortunately, they could not accommodate us. I asked to speak with a manager. And before she began walking towards the manager a gentleman that looked like a busboy due to the rag on his shoulder and claimed to be the manager. He listened, and said he understood but would ok it but would need to call the owner. After checking with the same girl the first girl was talking to he returned and apologized and told us the owner said they could not serve us. What was most disappointing was that we weren’t offered any options — not even the chance for the adults to dine while the kids ate what we brought. We felt humiliated having to gather our children and leave as if we had done something wrong. We were simply trying to care for our kids’ dietary needs while also hoping to enjoy a meal and relax at a new spot after a long day. Apparently this probably wont be a spot to return. it was very degrading and embarrassing how they denied us. Unfortunately, this experience left a very negative impression of how the restaurant handles families and communication. I hope management takes this as constructive feedback and finds a more understanding way to handle these kinds of situations.
