Had an amazing stay at the Priory. Second time we have been. Lovely caring staff, great service. Beautiful rooms, food exemplary. Grounds amazing. Great Spa too with warm swimming pool.
From first point of contact earlier this year to check out today, the service has been 5*. Kitty on reception was so friendly, helpful and accommodating. The room we stayed in was beautiful and had a lovely view of the garden. The food in the Pantry and the breakfast was delicious. Looking forward to visiting again!
Though one night stay, staff were extremely friendly, helpful and professional upon entry, assisted us with ensuring we could make the most of our stay at the hotel including parking for for a few extra hours to enjoy Bath before our leave on the day which was brilliant. Even went the extra mile and upgraded our room which was a huge bonus so thank you very much for that. We will be back again, I am sure. Great spa facilities as well and showed us around the hotel before our stay.
The staff were.all very welcoming from the moment we arrived and looked after us very well, particularly for a private dinner we held. The food was excellent and the room very comfortable.
Enjoyed a weekend full of Christmassy things to get us into the spirit. Staff were so helpful, pleasant and always smiling. The turn down service is always lovely to have but sadly no pillow chocolate 😒 The cost of an Uber was around £10 into the centre. We're disappointed we didn't have time to use the spa facilities and thought maybe next time we'd stay a further night. The food in the bar area was very nice also. We saw the festive itinerary for the New Year. The price was alot however for the amount that is included makes it a good deal. Wish Id have seen it earlier because we would have been going. Planning on returning next year.
Recently booked for my nephew as wedding gift. They enjoyed their stay immensely love everything about it. Thank you for making it memorable for them
The staff were excellent attentive providing excellent customer service. At breakfast there was plenty of choice, the food was excellent. The hotel 20 minute easy walk to the city centre. Will definitely go back.
A wonderful experience. Stayed for one night in December to visit the Christmas markets. My room was stunning, comfortable and well equipped. Breakfast was tasty with good options and quick service. Thank you!
I surprised my girlfriend with Afternoon Tea for a 1 Year Anniversary. The food was incredible and they even surprised us with an extra plate of sweet treats to celebrate our anniversary. Kristina, our host, was so lovely, helpful, and made sure we had everything we needed. I would recommend to anyone thinking of coming!
We stayed 3 nights but only ate breakfast there. The staff were most helpful and willing. The hotel has a lot of history and beautiful gardens.
Lovely weekend here to celebrate my husbands birthday. The hotel is beautiful, staff were lovely and we felt thoroughly relaxed after 2 hours in the spa
Nice room gives you a H Georgian feeling. Best of all you feel they treat their staff quite well. Good atmosphere.
Lovely hotel. Hassle free parking. Large clean rooms with evening turn down service and choice of newspapers. Four acres of beautiful gardens. Plenty areas to relax in hotel with very comfortable seating. Ambience all round very relaxed. All staff were friendly and professional. Swimming pool and steam room very clean and well looked after. Adjoining spa provides luxurious relaxing treatments. Breakfast choice and quality first rate. Waiter service only, so much better than queuing at a buffet area. Shout outs to Kristina and George for their attentive service.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Exceptional 3-Night Retreat! We just finished a wonderful three-night stay at The Bath Priory and couldn’t be happier with the experience. The Staff: Incredibly friendly and welcoming from start to finish. They truly go above and beyond to make you feel at home. The Food: Absolutely amazing! The breakfast was a particular highlight—beautifully presented and very tasty. The Spa: A huge plus is that access to the Sauna, Steam Room, and Spa is all included. It’s the perfect way to unwind after exploring Bath. If you’re looking for top-tier service and a relaxing atmosphere, this is the spot. Highly recommended!
Five stars all round for The Bath Priory Hotel. From the beautiful gardens to the tranquil spa and the stunning rooms, everything was absolutely wonderful. It’s a truly special place. What really sets The Bath Priory apart, though, is the people. The level of service was exceptional — attentive, thoughtful, and always going the extra mile, which made our stay feel incredibly personal and special. A heartfelt thank you to Noi, whose care and attention made all the difference. An unforgettable experience from start to finish.
Great place to stay in Bath, 15-20mins walk into the heart of Bath. Nothing is too much trouble for the friendly and efficient staff. A refreshing change to find a good hotel that has a positive can do attitude. It felt like spending a couple of days in a private country house. Well done to both the management and staff. First class
We loved our stay at the Bath Priory! All staff were incredibly polite and professional, and always happy to help. It’s refreshing to stay at a hotel with such a high standard of customer service. The spa is wonderful and very quiet (at least during the week). Would totally recommend and can’t wait to stay here again in our next visit to Bath!
The Bath Priory provided an exceptional experience from start to finish. We stayed for two nights in a beautifully appointed room that was both elegant and extremely comfortable, offering a peaceful and luxurious retreat. Breakfast each morning was a real highlight, with excellent quality ingredients, attentive service, and a relaxed atmosphere that set the tone for the day. We also booked a full body massage, which was superbly delivered by professional and skilled therapists, leaving us completely relaxed and refreshed. The indoor pool was another standout feature, calm, immaculately maintained, and perfect for unwinding. Overall, the service throughout the hotel was discreet, warm, and highly professional, making the entire stay feel effortless. A truly memorable stay in a stunning setting. Highly recommended for anyone seeking luxury, comfort, and exceptional hospitality.
Deserves 6 stars, wonderful hotel. The staff are relaxed but efficient, having time to converse with guests. Good modern bathroom otherwise old fashioned comfort. Dinner was excellent breakfast all brought to order. Very interesting gardens. We'll be returning thank you
We have been coming for the Christmas package at the Bath Priory for nearly 15 years now and we always have an amazing visit. The staff go out of their way to make our trip special and memorable. The rooms are lovely and comfortable. The food is incredible at the pantry and in the dining room. The spa is beautiful and relaxing. Mostly though the service is unbeatable. It is hands down our favorite place to visit. So much care and effort is made to ensure everyone enjoys themselves. Such an amazing group of people.
We recently had a wonderful stay at The Bath Priory Hotel whilst visiting our eldest at University. The location was perfect — peaceful yet only a short walk into town. Our room was spacious and luxurious, with views of the beautiful gardens. Breakfast was delicious, though service was a little on the slow side unfortunately. A special mention to the gardener, who truly made our stay memorable. She took the time to show us around parts of the garden, shared her incredible knowledge, helped carry our bags to the car, and even picked a few flowers for my husband and I as we left. Such a thoughtful gesture — we’ll never forget. We both said how refreshing it was to meet such a kind & enthusiastic young person. The facilities at the Spa were well maintained, creating a relaxing and peaceful atmosphere. A perfect place to unwind — we look forward to coming back again.
An amazing experience from start to finish! The staff was very polite and helpful throughout our stay, offering a small tour of the hotel upon arrival. The facilities and amenities were great, with the spa offering a great space for relaxation throughout the weekend. The gardens offered amazing views both from our room and when having breakfast / coffee in the hotel.
Amazing place that surpassed our expectations. After a very expensive car repair, we were on a bit of a tight budget for my husband’s birthday. After reading good reviews, we decided to book here. The hotel contacted us straight away with details of some really useful information and tips. This was good because we had some accessibility needs, for which they were very accommodating. When we arrived, there weren’t any parking spaces. They came out and helped worked out somewhere to park, then insisted they help with our bags. Everyone was very attentive and couldn’t do enough. My only feedback would be, it would be nice to have some spa stuff outside. Maybe Swedish sauna or traditional wooden hot tub. The gardens are beautiful so be amazing to experience them more as part of the experience.
Lovely stay. Staff fabulous. Lovely dinner Thank you William and Ann Brown
What a wonderful new year experience 🎉🥳❤️ We highly recommend The Bath Priory Especially the staff - the location and the warm hospitality during our stay made this a wonderful memory! Love the Munk-Larsen’s
Lovely hotel and location with beautiful gardens. Food and service are great! Thank you for a lovely stay!
Fabulous stay at The Bath Priory. Gorgeous room, very clean and comfortable. Attentive staff and delicious food.
A perfect stay from beginning to end. Georgie (hopefully spelled correctly) greeted us at reception with a smile and kindly showed us around all the facilities and to our beautiful room filled with lots of little complementary items. We enjoyed an afternoon in the spa and had room service (with no added service charge) in the evening. We visited during quite a warm weekend but this was no issue due to the Dyson fan provided in the room. Breakfast in the morning was great. Would highly highly recommend this hotel and wouldn’t hesitate to choose the bath priory for our next visit!
Amazing place to unwind and relax. Beautiful gardens, excelent service and great Spa. Definitely a place that I would love to come back! Perfect location as well, It's located 20 min walk from Bath main attractions. I highly recommend this place!
Me and my mom had an amazing time staying one night here! The staff have been so polite and welcoming to us, by showing us around and answering our questions. They also upgraded our classic room to a superior room for free and I really appreciated it! The room was simply gorgeous and it looked at the beautiful gardens. The swimming pool is warm and very relaxing, perfect for a swim at the end of the day. Breakfast was included as well and it was delicious! I really have no complaints, just positive things to say! Thank you so much again for making us feel so welcomed!
Amazing place great location the ambuence is out of this world and 6 star service from kate and neev thry made the stay and experience worth the travel truly wish i coukd habe stayed much longer left refreshed and will come again soon
Good location, building getting a bit tired around the edges, needs a refurb. A fridge in the room would be good. Service, for us, was OTT. I don't need someone to carry a toothbrush up to my room. Spa w2as very clean but a bit small. Gardens looked great for use at other times of the year. Easy to walk to Victoria gardens, the city centre or bus.
Lovely hotel and throughly enjoyed our stay. However I feel it is more of a very good 4* rather than a 5* Service in the lounge was slow and although bedroom was very nice, a fair bit of wear and tear was visible.
The Priory is a beautiful hotel Rooms are lovely food fantastic Breakfast service was terrible Staff not very helpful , 20 mins to order drinks and 40 mins to get it Difficult to get toast couldnt find staff to make order and only 3 tables occupied so quite quiet . Stayed several.days this happened every day not relaxing or enjoyable Not what you expect in a 5 star hotel
The Priory is up a hill beyond Victoria Park & has large, pretty gardens with an outdoor swimming pool (for the summer) hidden away at the bottom of the garden. It’s a peaceful location The staff were very friendly, welcoming & helpful. Our room was large, with plenty of antique furniture to store clothes etc in. However, it was very warm, even in early March, & we had to ask the staff to take off the window opening limiters so that we could open the windows wide. The bathroom was large but the noisy extractor fan came on when the lights were turned on & there was no isolator switch to prevent this happening at night when you don’t want to be woken up by the noise. There were high-quality toiletries (l’Occitaine) in the bathroom. There were very good quality teabags & a Nespresso machine in the room. Sometimes the “turndown” service left home-made biscuits in our room, but this didn’t happen every night. Summary: high quality hotel with good staff but slightly inconsistent service, & some details require attention.
My wife and I stayed on Sunday night on a dinner, bed and breakfast rate. Prior to arrival we were contacted and sent the Valentine’s menu, which we agreed to for a small premium. As with previous visits, check in was seamless and welcoming. We were allocated our historically favourite room, however this time it did feel in need of some TLC. The very old wooden frame windows clearly require repair and repainting, the lampshade was cracked internally, and there were visible marks in the carpet and scuffs on the walls. These are understandable in a busy hotel, but for a five star Relais & Châteaux property at this price point, rooms should really feel immaculate. Dinner itself was excellent, as was the wine flight, and the service started strongly. Each course and wine was initially presented with care and explanation, which set expectations for a refined dining experience. Unfortunately, that standard slipped noticeably during the main course, which was simply placed in front of us with no description before the waitress walked away. Again, on its own that might have been fine, but expectations had already been set. More disappointing was the missing pre dessert parfait. Instead, dessert was placed directly in front of us. When I queried the missing course, I was shown an alternative menu without the parfait listed. I then asked to see the original menu we had been presented with at the start of the meal, where the item was clearly included. The biggest disappointment was not the absence of the dish itself, but the attempt to suggest it had never been available. It was a small moment, but it left a bitter taste and created an unnecessary level of disappointment that detracted from what should have been a special evening. The Bath Priory remains a beautiful hotel with excellent food, but at this level, consistency, transparency, and attention to detail really matter.
A beautiful hotel in stunning grounds. Our room was upgraded which was lovely. The room was very large and spacious with its own entrance hall. There was a comfortable large sofa and a table and chairs in the bedroom. The bed was large and comfortable with high quality linen, duvet and pillows. We did have to mention that two of the wall lights and a standard lamp flickered when left on but there was plenty of other lighting. Sadly one of the drum shades on a very large glass feature lamp had some obvious rips or tears in it. The bathroom was spacious with beautiful marble flooring and had a shower over the bath. Towels were changed everyday. Quite a few areas of the hotel need some refurbishment. Tired wallpaper and paintwork on staircases need updating - without losing the English country house charm of the hotel. Some sofas in the lounges also need replacing. The dining room is beautiful and breakfast is lovely. The choice of meals in the Pantry however is pretty limited and overpriced for what you receive. Drinks are also expensive. All the staff in the hotel are delightful and the Manager is happy to take time to speak to all the guests and make them feel special. The hotel is a special place and we hope to be back.
Overall a very nice experience with excellent food and very good service. We had a lovely second floor room but there were some features that were a bit tired. Spa is nice but the hotel would benefit from the introduction of a gym to make it more of a resort destination given its out of town location.
The hotel was of a standard one would expect. Beautiful setting, rooms quite beautiful... as I say everything you would expect. Mine was a special visit for a friend's significant birthday, so extra special therefore. There was a caveat however, which lost you the final star; our celebration supper was underwhelming. Not the main components, which were cooked beautifully, but the complete absence of any discernable vegetables accompanying the dishes. Why? Also, our desserts had to be amended as elements were either incorrect or missed out. Little things, but jarring. This was a wonderful break in a glorious building. I would also like to congratulate the staff. In particular the wonderful Kristina, who was professionalism personnified. She dealt with our varying needs exceptionally. And, to George - who looked after us in the evening. I would like to put on record our thanks and commend them both to the management.
I have just returned from a lovely two night stay at the Bath priory hotel. It was to celebrate a birthday with some girlfriends. We had two twin rooms overlooking the beautiful gardens. The rooms were elegantly decorated in calm, pale neutral colours, in room facilities were excellent & the beds were very comfortable. We ate in the hotel on one of the evenings the service and the food were lovely. Breakfast the next morning was plentiful & delicious. I’ve stayed in a couple of different hotels in Bath recently & this has been by far the best if you don’t mind a 15 to 20 minute comfortable stroll into the town centre. Two things deserve a special mention. The staff. Every member of staff I encountered was so friendly & professional, something that’s becoming a rarity these days in the service industry. The other highlight is the spa, small but lovely for a couple of hours of relaxation. There’s also a lovely looking outdoor heated pool that I would definitely like to try next time. Another point to note is that the roads approaching the hotel have a 20 mile an hour speed limit. We unfortunately didn’t see any obvious signage as we were busy looking out for the hotel & have come home to a hefty speeding fine for doing 28 in a 20 which has unfortunately tarnished the otherwise lovely stay. It might be worthwhile to pop a warning on the hotel website about the 20 mile an hour zones to help forewarn out of towners.
I was here for my brothers wedding and Staff were very friendly and attentive and they were very present so you could easily find them if you needing anything. Only negative is that the prices at the bar were steep for what you got and you should offer complementary snacks such as olives and crips to go with your drink. I would also expect more table service outside. Both things are pretty standard in Europe. Lovely venue though just what you'd hope for at a big occasion like a wedding.
I visited for Sunday breakfast and was unfortunately disappointed. While the hotel itself is beautiful and the staff were welcoming and professional, the breakfast fell well short of expectations given the upscale setting and room rates. The £5 so called 'sourdough toast' was served rock hard and the overall breakfast was undersized and lacking in flavor. I hope the kitchen will invest in higher-quality ingredients and culinary improvement going forward.
Disappointed overall. For spending £300 or $400 a night, this hotel did not reach expectations set by their website. The staff were amazing and service was good the night we ate at their “pantry,” but the rest of the stay was lacking a 5-star experience. The room, which was still quite small despite being a “Superior” was outdated (not in a quaint, charming way) The bed frame had lots of visible wear and the bed sconces were missing shades. The room and bathroom had almost no table or counter space and only two hooks for robes/ towels. The bathroom did not even have a toilet paper holder. The room also did not have air conditioning. Thankfully we had cooler weather during our stay and kept the fan on and windows open to help. If the weather had been any warmer we would have been extremely uncomfortable. The pools were nice but close quite early at 8pm. Overall it seems like the Priory wants to operate as a 5-star hotel without putting in effort to maintain 5-star facilities.
I have stayed here and booked in for dinner, lunch and afternoon tea on a few occasions. I was very disappointed on a recent trip where I had booked in for afternoon tea with my visiting family. Unfortunately, when we booked, the venue did not advise us there would be a wedding taking place at the same time. We arrived to find a wedding party posing for pictures at the front entrance, and had to awkwardly interrupt to get inside. There was no room for us in the main dining area (I would imagine due to the wedding), and we were told we could be seated outside. However, we were told no umbrellas allowed due to the wind and no shade was available, and it was nearly 30c! We opted for the alternative which was one of the lounges. While the staff were friendly, and the food to the usual good standard, the ambience was severely lacking. The room was a walk through for wedding guests/staff and for touring guests on check in and it was obvious they were short staffed, so lots of waiting. We were also seated on a low small table which was unsuitable. There were no apologies or compensation offered for the shortcomings. When I emailed to complain about the experience I received no response, which was additionally disappointing and frustrating. Only when I sent a chaser did I receive a reply, which in a roundabout way said thanks for the feedback. It's made me think twice about booking in again, especially with visiting guests we had recommended the venue to, as it was a bit embarrassing.
The Bath Priory is a wonderful hotel, with great amenities (spa and restaurant). The restaurant is a bit overpriced for the small plates served. The service was pretty deceiving. After spending more than 300£ for a one night stay and restaurant dinner, the receptionist offered us a coffee to-go on our way out, and then asked us to pay for it. Did not feel like high quality hospitality. Considering the image the hotel wants to give (luxury stay and relaxing retreat), some extra flexibility would be nice. Last little detail: I would reconsider the choice of colonial paintings for decorating the tea room.
The problem here is this hotel sells itself as a luxury hotel...well this depends on your definition of luxury. It was incredibly disappointing on too many levels. We stayed in a suite and the room layout was excellent. However, I am not sure the carpet has ever seen a hoover. The amount of dust in the room made us constantly cough. The day time housekeeping staff need a huge refresher course. The bed was made without any care. The duvet back to front and creased. The bed cover was not straightened. I put some clothes on an empty shelf and when I took an item it was covered in dust. The main restaurant was closed Monday and Tuesday. You could eat from the pantry menu (same menu lunch and dinner) till 9pm. After that we were told there was a night menu available and we could eat in our room. The night menu was 4 items: 2 sandwiches, tomato soup and a plate of cheese. Would be better to say no food available after 9pm, but let us see if we can prepare something for you!. We used Uber eats from that moment on. We ordered breakfast in the room during our 4 days stay. We had to phone down with our order, every night, as no pen to fill out breakfast menu choices. At no time did anyone think to bring a pen for the remainder of the stay. The bread was not toasted. The eggs arrived cold.etc. I can go on and on with how desperately the hotel needs money spent on it. It is resting too much on its laurels. The location may dictate the prices charged, but if you sell yourself as luxury then you have to provide the service. No management was anywhere to be seen. To finish on a positive note. The young staff who helped answer phones, bring our room service, look after us for afternoon tea were simply delightful. They tried so hard and deserve to be praised and made our "luxury" stay pleasant.
We were so looking forward to a special a Valentine's Day together the spa, treatments , dinner, champagne you know all those indulgent moments especially after your partner has been so unwell and nearly didn't survive to see today. Well how disappointed we were. The spa has had better days and I would say we found it very dirty, we have travelled and visited many spa's. The treatments were amazing, rooms relaxing, the ladies who carried out our treatments were absolutely lovely. Then we sat down for champagne and lunch. Again how disappointing. We had to wait 40 minutes for our champagne and then We were given the menu's service was very slow even though there were not many people around. I would say I found this very annoying and very disappointing not what you expect for what we paid for the day. We have eaten here before and sat in the main room for dinner which we had no complaints about whatsoever but felt today we were treated totally different. I would say the food is great, absolutely delicious , no complaints whatsoever... Would I go back. Definitely not to the spa... yes to have a treatment, dinner not sure as felt I there are plenty of other places to have an indulgent afternoon. Overall 50/50 today nit as great as was looking forward too z
We stayed here this past weekend, August 23-26. To be honest everything about staying here felt like a bit of a scam. This shouldn’t be listed anywhere near five stars and I feel a little gaslit reading some of these reviews. But maybe it’s just that it’s gotten a lot worse lately. If I can convince someone not to stay here, it will be the best thing an internet comment has ever done. There are several issues that made this miserable. First there’s the “spa”. The spa is nasty. There is an outdoor “pool” that says it’s heated (it’s not) and it was never cleaned the whole time we stayed there with dirt and sticks etc in the water. The indoor area wasn’t much better. The pool had paint and rust chips falling into from a low hanging ceiling above it that was falling apart. The steam room and sauna doors didn’t shut all the way and one was just cold. But it didn't matter because we couldn’t use it much anyway because it was overrun with kids. Toddler-aged kids. It was more of a daycare than a spa, with toddlers running around screaming. We tried four different times to use it. All toddlers all the time. It was like Disneyland Paris. Who lets 3 year olds in a spa? Truly wild. I felt even worse for another couple we met there who were on their first holiday away from their kids in a year only to be blindsided by an army of them. When we complained the spa said "oh yeah we get that complaint a lot. This place is marketed wrong." Cool. Second is the hotel itself. The hotel is presented wrong. It’s not a spa hotel. It’s more like an old bed and breakfast that hasn’t been maintained. The first room we stayed in was awful. We were woken up at 7 in the morning with machines running and people stomping around. We went and looked and it seemed like we were staying under the staff area. Which is weird because the rooms was supposedly an “upgrade” they gave us when we checked in. This gave us a room underground that clearly hadn’t been used in a while. They did end up moving our room again and taking 50 pounds off the bill. The person working there was very nice. The new room was okay but just as loud. When we moved all we wanted to do was rest so we ordered a couple bottles of water from room service. They never came. We ordered food/drink three times there. One time it didn’t come the other two times they got the order wrong. Honestly, that stuff doesn't bother me. Stuff happens. And this wouldn’t have even really mattered if it wasn’t presented as a “5 star spa hotel”. I honestly think whoever owns must just find it too expensive to maintain so they don’t touch and just charge crazy high prices to try and make it work. I know the hotel will likely respond to this with an apology or something but really it doesn’t matter. This place is a scam. Please don’t book here. It’s a Travelodge with a pool, priced like a London hotel. There’s plenty of better places in Bath. Avoid this one.
I’m not a person to write reviews and generally if I am not fully satisfied I just suck it up and move on but I actually felt truly ripped off and am speaking out as it isn’t right. Firstly the staff were excellent, maybe not highly experienced but made up for it with their efforts but to your “ Fine Dining “ is a sham. I am fortunate enough to travel a lot and with a home in Naples Florida and Petworth UK I get to visit a lot of high class restaurants. And, I fully accept that fine dining is about the creativity of a dynamic chef and the overall experience. So.. when I saw on the menu “ Hand picked crab “ as a starter and “ Rack of lamb with a red wine reduction , I can’t say I was truly that excited but hey I was hungry and we were sat there ready to eat. The menu was somewhat strangely set up with The rack of lamb for example having under it the name of a wine, which I presumed it was felt paired well and a price of £25.00. What wasn’t clear was , was the wine included or was it just a suggestion. I was told it wasn’t included so my presumption was that the lamb was £25.00 as otherwise why would a price be out there. This same scenario was repeated with every starter and main course… I wasn’t keen on their recommendations so choose my own wine which was nothing that elaborate but with a price tag of £32 a glass certainly wasn’t cheap . I had two glasses. So … my “ picked crab “ consisted of two table spoons of crab meat with a ring of thinly cut radish on top and a factory made doily style biscuit decoration on the top … My Rack of lamb consisted of one small lamb cutlet, one stick of asparagus, a teaspoonful of some sort of aubergine mix which had a horrible flavor and a few decorative dots around the plate which may well have had some sort of flavor but were too small to taste. My wife had the same starter but went for the white fish with a shellfish mouse accompanied by an Isle of white tomato puree and broccoli. When it arrived the fish which incorporated the mouse was about the size of two fish fingers, the broccoli was no larger than my finger nail and the tomato puree was about half of a teaspoon. My wife had a a simple Chardonnay wine and likewise had two glasses. The bill ended up as over £330 and we left hungry, bored and totally disappointed. Nothing served was unique, exciting or entertaining and sadly it totally tarnished our stay to the extent that my wife cancelled her spa treatments for the next morning and we decided to leave as soon as we woke up. The sad part is my Petworth home is a few miles from Amberley Castle which is owned by the same group and Although over the years we have attended a number of weddings at this venue we hadn’t tried the fine dining and were going to book this summer …… not anymore. If your chef hasn’t got anything new, or exciting up his sleeve don’t fool the punters by calling it fine dining and …… one chop doesn’t make a rack !
I booked a two-night stay for my daughter and me, as we both love five-star Victorian hotels and have stayed in a few. Unfortunately, this hotel was disappointing from the moment we arrived. The building, both inside and out, lacked the elegance and grandeur expected of a five-star establishment—everything felt outdated and unkempt. We stayed in a junior suite, paying over £900 for two nights, which turned out to be a complete waste of money. Despite requesting early check-in, our suite was only ready at 3 PM. While waiting, we dined at the Pantry restaurant, which wasn’t busy, yet the service was painfully slow. The portions were tiny, my pasta arrived cold, and the prices were completely unreasonable for the quality. Frankly, an average café would have offered a much better meal. The room itself was another disappointment. The four-poster bed was far too soft, and everything felt old and worn, with some elements even falling apart. The spa experience was nothing like a true spa—it felt more like a three-star facility, basic and not well-maintained. Breakfast was equally underwhelming, with poor choices and bland food. Overall, this stay did not meet expectations, and I wouldn’t return. I hope this review helps others avoid spending their money on an experience that falls far short of five-star standards.
