Was told about this by a co-worker. Described as upscale steaks with neighborhood feel and decor. And that is what it is. Based in an old house, with an absolute eclectic decor, the steak here is AWESOME!!!!! I had to 10oz Filet Mignon, which melted in my mouth. They even have a two and three POUND steak available. The fries were perfect and it came with, fried biscuits! Never had that before and yes, it was great. One happy, and full customer.
The best steak joint in BR...I definitely agree. How do they do it, I'm not sure, but they do it. The best tasting, most tender slab of beef I've ever encountered. This was the wife and I's first time here, but I'm glad we discovered Doe's because it won't be our last that's for sure. Are you looking for down home feels with down home meals, well you've found it here at Doe's Eat Place!
One of the best ribeyes I’ve had. Plus they are consistent with cooking temperatures. Ever been to a restaurant multiple times and each time your food comes out a different size portion or it’s cooked differently even though you ordered it exactly the same as you did last time? So annoying. I know what to expect when I order here - it’s the same each time. Good quality cuts of meat, too. Super juicy and full of flavor. Also, I don’t know what’s in those little hushpuppy dough balls, but they’re 1000x better than any hushpuppy I’ve ever had.
There's not many places to get a good steak in Baton Rouge but if you're craving one, Doe's Eat Place is where you need to go. Holy tastebud delight! My steak literally melted in my mouth almost like butter it was so good! Angry Shrimp, Oyster salad, drop biscuits, an 11 ounce fillet and don't forget dessert! You will leave stuffed but looking forward to your next visit 😉
The beef tamales are very good especially if you put some chill sauce on top. We ordered 2 of the two pound ribeyes, one medium and one medium well and I must say it was the very best steak I have ever had. I generally use A-1 for every steak no except THIS was the first time in 40 years I used NONE. Please don't take my word for it and come get a taste you will be doing yourself a very big favor. Chris was our server and he was great very attentive and gave amazing recommendations. Thanks Chris!!!
Great place for steak! Staff is always very friendly and helpful. Very causal, no need to dress up. My wife and I split a 2lb ribeye and it was everything that we wanted it to be. The drop biscuits are to die for! We love coming here for special occasions and randomly during the week! I love the fact they accept online reservations from Google.
Came here for lunch and had a very memorable chicken fried steak. Steak was huge, and was actually a very large and thick sirloin steak breaded and fried. Served with garlic mashed potatoes which were equally excellent. Lunch prices are definitely a bargain. Server warned me that it was a large steak and she was not exaggerate. Doe's is just one of those places you have to experience, but be aware it is a lot of food. Tamales also a good choice but no room after having this monster.
The food was really good. The tamales aren’t done in the traditional corn husk, seems like they are wrapped in wax paper, but they are still very good, served with chili. The deep fried biscuits almost have a beignet quality and are very good. The Caesar salad was only ok, not much flavor from the dressing. We had the broiled shrimp for an appetizer, good flavor, but slightly over cooked. The lobster bisque was very heavy on the tomato, with no lobster. More of a Tomato basil than any type of bisque. My wife and I split a 2.5# Ribeye and my friend had the “Queen” filet, both were excellent and perfectly cooked. Bread pudding was delicious, good texture. If I had one serious knock on the place, the host was wearing an ALABAMA game day T-shirt from a game where they beat LSU, definitely a turn off when we walked in. I am fine with everyone having their team affiliation, but not at work when 99% of your customers will be LSU fans who can’t stand Alabama. Not enough to lose a star, but might be enough to keep my from coming back. This is more like 4.5 stars, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt.
We went for restaurant week. I got tomato basil soup, which I thought was too acidic for my taste. The ribeye steak was really good. I got it cooked medium, but will probably try medium rare next time. The mashed potatoes were delicious. The chocolate eclair was amazing. It was very fluffy and not too sweet. It was just the right amount of sweetness.
Always an excellent experience. I always get the hamburger steak for lunch. The side salad I get with ranch and Italian on the side because they are both so good. Not seen are the tamales which are also excellent and served with a homemade chili style sauce! The steaks are huge so I recommend splitting one if you choose !! They are well known for their steaks for sure!
Doe's Eat Place has become a staple in the Baton Rouge area. Their steaks and filets are delicious but you need to bring your appetite along with you. The smallest steak is 1.5 pounds, that's a lot of meat to put away. They have some of the best tamales you can find, and the optional Chilli you can get to put over them is FIYA. Staff is always friendly and extremely good at their jobs. There are other options on the menu such as pasta and seafood, as well as some of the best dessert biscuits as a finisher. Give them a try if you're on Government Street.
When traveling we like to have a nice date night out. I found a story online and it mentioned Doe’s and it did not disappoint! The atmosphere is chill and I wouldn’t change a thing. I read other reviews that thought it was too casual, I don’t need white table cloths, I’m here for the food. We both had filet, she got the 8 oz & I got the 10 oz. We both agreed it was some of the best steaks we have ever had. They were really that good! The fries were fresh cut and amazing. All three of the other sides were very good too. Our server was good too, not over the top or anything. The servers are in t-shirts & jeans (the waitresses in shorts). If this is an issue for you go to Ruth’s or someplace else. The meal was outstanding. We spent $100/head and we each had a glass of wine plus the table sized sides. It was really a pretty perfect meal. If you’re looking for a really good quality steak dinner don’t pass Doe’s up!
Phenomenal experience! Went for lunch and had the 12 oz Filet Mignon cooked medium. It was a touch rare as Doe's tends to undercook their steaks (given the quality of meat on offer it's perfectly understandable). Next time I will order it medium-well but other than that one small detail it was a truly memorable experience.
This isn’t the first time I’ve said it, nor will it be the last, THIS IS *T*H*E* PLACE FOR STEAKS! Steaks & Delta tamales! We’re that not enough, they’ve added a great new appetizer, fried asparagus with cheese sauce and crabmeat!!! Food is great. Drinks are generous. Atmosphere is laid back & friendly. Oh, did I say that THIS IS *T*H*E* PLACE FOR STEAKS!
Best service and value for a good night out. This is a quaint little spot in mid-city. If you are a steak-lover, this is your spot. The service is superior and you can always share a steak because the portions are ridiculous (good). I highly recommend the chocolate eclair pie to finish the evening!
Omg this place made me nostalgic for my North Lousiana grandma's kitchen. The food is seasoned so well, no frills, just delicious. Their tamales are very good, I didn't eat the chili provided with them on the tamale, but it too was delicious with good ol' Saltines. The steaks are HUGE but cooked to perfection. I visited on my birthday and received the interpretation a deconstructed chocolate eclair dessert which, to be honest, I may ask my family to buy a pan of for my next birthday. I loved this spot and can't wait to visit the original in Monroe ASAP.
Doe's serves steaks that rival all of the well-known higher-end steak house chains, but does it in a down-home, casual way. The service is great and the Southern charm makes this a favorite place to return for an amazing meal without being fancy. The quality of the meat is top-notch and they cook the steak right every time. Don't skip out on the tamales and the marinated salad before your entree.
Went for restaurant week, and per usual, they were on point with every dish. My husband had the ribeye, which is always cooked to perfection, and I tried the short rib. Very delicious, tender, and juicy as this was their first time serving the short rib. We also had the seared tuna as an app. That was great, too. Drinks were awesome as well.
Fran was our server. She was absolutely top notch!!! Never waited for anything!! We ordered the Chicken Fried Steak. I cannot find enough words to describe the flavor. It was perfectly seasoned, tenderized wonderfully. The garlic mashed taters were light and fluffy. The table next to us ordered the Ribeye...I will definitely have that next time!!!
Fantastic Baton Rouge spot. Steaks were excellent as well as the fries and Mac and cheese. Ate at a table in the bar area on Saturday night. Great food and the chance to watch football. If you have a few drinks, you will end up spending some money, but it’s very much worth it.
Our steak was cooked and seasoned perfectly, and the tamales were great. Chloe was a great server. The dessert was very disappointing compared to the rest of the meal. It was good, but I'll probably skip dessert next time.
The best steaks in BR. I recommend getting fries with your steak to soak up the gravy. The biscuits with honey are good, too. It gets loud in there and the tables have old vinyl table cloths, but it doesn't bother me once I get my filet mignon
Stopped in to try the burger after reading an article on best burger in Louisiana. Lived up to the hype. Tender juicy and seasoned perfect. I’ll be back!!!!
The place to go if you like steak. We've dined at the Doe's in Fayetteville, AR several times - this was our first time here and it was all we've come to expect at Doe's. Tamales appetizer is a "don't miss"; the wine list is pretty good; steaks are at least 2 pounds so they are prepared for you to share an entrée - we were each served a salad and there were sufficient fries and "biscuits" (more like a flour hush puppy) for two. Our server suggested cooking our steak at a medium rare (me) & medium (spouse) "tweener" and they pulled it off rather well. Attentive, friendly, and capable service.
Damn good steak, cooked to perfection. Comfortable, relaxed atmosphere with an attentive knowledgeable staff. My wife and I split a 2 pound ribeye. We were very pleased. We highly recommend and look forward to coming again. Great job!
Ate there for the first time recently. Everything about the place was excellent! Quality food! Quality service! And great atmosphere..lightimg perfect..tables not too close together like some places..very cozy! Oh did i mention the food! Better than u will find at most other high end restaurants! Everything we ordered was exceptional!!
Doe’s Eat Place Category: Steakhouses 5.0 star rating 10/27/2014 I have eaten and enjoyed Doe's for dinner but decided to go for lunch today. Lunch was exceptional and really hit the spot. We ordered the tamales which were piping hot and actually had meat in them - not a mouth full of slimy corn like most tamales sold today. The Fried oysters were perfectly cooked and the seasoning was delicious - the wife really liked the tartar sauce as well. The blue cheese fries had some thought put into them - they were rich to be sure, but that is what we wanted and hoped for. On to the Fried Steak and garlic mashed potatoes - The steak was mammoth! It was very very very good. Immeadiately you can tell that it was not some boxed frozen thing, but homemade and prepared with attention. The mashed potatoes were perfect and had just enough garlic. The tea was fresh and strong like South Louisiana tea should be. They obviously clean the tea containers and keep it fresh. The worst thing is going to a restaurant and tasting a musty day old tea and/or tea from an unclean container pot. The staff was very friendly and personable which made us feel comfortable but not crowded.
Had the set menu for restaurant week. As always the steaks were beyond perfect. Thick cut ribeye with garlic mashed potatoes was likely the best food I have had this year. As always, started with the delta tamales, and had to place a second order for them to go for later. Desert was tres leches cake. Made my meal end as wonderful as it started.
Great food and atmosphere! Steak was fresh and cooked to perfection.
Absolutely fantastic experience at Doe's Eat Place! From the moment we walked in, the service was warm and welcoming. The menu has a great selection, and everything we ordered was cooked to perfection. The steaks were incredibly tender and flavorful, and the sides complemented the meal perfectly. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, making it the ideal spot for both a casual meal or a special occasion. Highly recommend for anyone in the area looking for delicious food and top-notch service. Can't wait to return!
A very simple but well executed menu! Start with The Only appetizer, the tamales will worth it. The drop biscuits didn't make it to the fridge a or daughter nabbed then after date night. The 2-lb Porterhouse was more than enough for both my wife and I; Best steak in town, by far! An absolute must try, thanks Scott for a well managed experience.
Excellent service. Very clean facility. Great place for date night. Near the corner of Goverment Street and Acadian Thruway.
Best steak in baton rouge. Easy. No discussion. Service is always friendly and attentive. Very laid back place with great options. Feels like you're at a friend's house. Tamales and drop biscuits are a must. I've always gotten the ribeye and it's a game changer. It's hard to eat at other "steak houses" after going to Doe's.
Went there and had MC as my server. The staff was exceptionally friendly and made my experience a very pleasant time. I would recommend to anyone who wants to come here to try some great steaks and hot tamales!!! The rolls are also super great. Will definitely be back again!!! 20/10!!!
We had such a great time last night celebrating our son's 25th birthday! Our waiter was perfect and the food was delicious. Our crew got a bit rowdy at times and we apparently stayed an hour after closing. I didn't realize this until I got home and googled their hours because it was so quiet in there besides us. But no one said a word about the noise or the overtime. Thank y'all so much for being so accommodating!! It was a special night for us all.
Always have the best steaks. The tamales appetizer with homemade chili is very delish. Only one occaion my Salad was so salty I couldn't eat it which was strange but other than that this place is my go to for a good steak, great service and very laid back atmosphere.
Steak was amazing, 10/10. There weren't a ton of other options on the menu outside of appetizers but if you're looking for a great steak then this is a great place.
Another local recommended this place and it didn’t disappoint. We sat in the bar area which has lots of great LSU memorabilia. Scott the owner introduced himself and explained many photos. Kit the blonde haired server was very knowledgeable and friendly. Scott you need to find a way to install a long draw Bottoms Up Draught Beer system so your team spends less time stocking fridges with cans & bottles, the investment will pay off in no time! And then I could give a 5 star rating on service n atmosphere instead of 4 😉👍
The tamales were delicious! The burger, definitely not the best in Baton Rouge but it's pretty good, not even worth taking a picture of it... The fries were not the best, almost like they were old or they didn't have time to cool from being blanched. Fried shrimp were perfectly cooked but the meatball po' boy stole the show though. That is the best meatball po' boy in town! The previous winner was Anthony's down the street, and I still hold them close to my heart, but Does is better.
The 3lb porterhouse was good, but it wasn’t $139 good. Texas Roadhouse has a more flavorful steak at a fraction of the cost. The shrimp were pretty good, but again, in South Louisiana, you’ve got to have an amazing recipe to beat out the competition. Taste of LA Cafe shrimp are much better. The staff and customer service were absolutely amazing. 5-stars for them!
The food was amazing. The service was great. The reviews already told me that. The ribeye was the smallest cut of it they had- 1.5#. That’s a big steak!! Temp was perfect. Seasoning was slightly bland- to be expected for the masses. The only reason for the 4 star- was price. It was quite pricey- I was expecting a price tag from the reviews, but I expected a percent, not a factor. The food was good… it just wasn’t $100+ good.
It's better than average, but not great. Service is very good, cocktails were good, steaks were good. The issue is that it once was a great steak place, but our last few trips weren't up to its old standards.
The specialty here is really big steaks, which are awesome. The portions are sharable. The price point is also favorable vs. a fancy steakhouse. Four stars because the quality here is great but not outstanding. Overall a tasty experience.
The steaks are worth your money! The meat is fresh-cut on a daily basis. Just know that it is all sold by the pound, and no cut is offered less than 2 pounds. The least expensive cut is $20 per pound. But again, it's worth the quality! The fries are a very different story...do not order them!! They also have an appetizer of fried asparagus topped with crab and cheese...the asparagus was under-cooked, it was served cold, and the breading was equivalent to the flavor, taste, and texture of cooking frozen breaded food in the microwave.
The steaks are great. Pricey, but thicker and juicier than I've found in Baton Rouge. Prepared exactly how we ordered, not over- or under-done. Go for the steaks; the sides and appetizers were nothing special. We didn't have tamales, which I've heard are also worth it. Casual atmosphere, friendly service, and not busy on a week night.
I've always wanted to stop here for a meal, and with my birthday coming up soon and this being restaurant week - I decided to stop and have an early dinner. Ordered their set menu for restaurant week which was a huge 24 oz ribeye with garlic mashed potatoes and nice side salad and dessert. They also had two other protein choices for the restaurant week menu if you don't want steak The ribeye steak was HUGE and very tasty. The only reason I took off one star was that it could have been just a little bit more tender. Mind you it wasn't tough, but not the most tender steak I've ever had. Still, I really enjoyed my steak birthday dinner and staff were very friendly. FYI, if you've never eaten there it is very low-keyed and casual. Will definitely come back for a lunch sometime and try their hamburgers and their club sandwich.
The tamales are great! We will order a dozen as take out often and just eat those for dinner. Chili can be a little grainy but it’s tasty. The last couple times our steak was not cooked to our level of preference. We ask for medium rare and we are given rare if not blue/raw steak. Cold in the middle. We asked our server if this was medium rare and she responded that was their medium rare. Didn’t know that was a thing. She did offer to cook it more for us but I was a little grossed out by that time. For an expensive steakhouse, if you had your own medium rare, wouldn’t you rely that message when someone orders it? “Just so y’all know our medium rare is more to the rare/blue side, is that okay with y’all?” Might have solved this issue. Took it home will cook it more with lunch tomorrow. Will go back but please notify your staff to inform customers.
Heard from friends that this was a great place for steak. Ordered the 2" T bone medium rare with potatoes and tamales. Tamales were meh, don't know what the hype is about. Better tamales at tex-mex restaurants. The steak came perfectly cooked. But it was literally floating in what I assume was butter. Had little to no flavor. Potatoes were meh as well, but I guess I am used to really good crawfish/crab seasoned red potatoes. Service was great. Food was meh at best. Spend a little extra money and eat at Ruth Chris.
Doe's Eat Place, 3723 Government St, Baton Rouge, LA 70806. While my Restaurant Week review is slightly delayed, I'm pleased to share my experience. Following recommendations, I sampled both the tamales and steak. Although the tamales weren't part of the three-course Restaurant Week menu, they are highly recommended. The three-course meal included mushroom soup, a 24-oz steak with mashed potatoes and collard greens, and a dessert (the name of which I regrettably forgot). I plan to return to Doe's Eat Place to enjoy the tamales again and explore other menu items. #tonylameats #batonrougela #doeeatplace #doeseatplace #steak #tamales #restaurantweekbr
The atmosphere was crowded, food was good steaks, except the steaks were not medium rare, potatoes and boiled shrimp 🦐 penna. Chris was our waiter and did a wonderful job. But the food came too fast to the table.
Wasn’t great but wasn’t awful. First time there & have heard A LOT of hype over this place. We didn’t have a reservation but the hostess made arrangements and were able to sit us without a wait which was nice of them. The server got our drinks. It took about 15 minutes which was okay bc it was a Saturday night and they had a full house. We ordered the spicy shrimp appetizer (6 for $18) We only got 5, showed the server and he said the kitchen was struggling a little. (Understandable) The shrimp were good but for $18 I would have liked to have had the 6th one which was never brought out but I wasn’t going to make a second comment to him about it. I ordered the filet and a side of the macaroni. He leaves. Comes back 15 minutes later says they’re out of macaroni. Okay, no worries. Brings the food out, looks good. It was cooked to the correct temperature but the quality of flavor I had expected just wasn’t there. Ten minutes after we’re eating our entrees, the macaroni comes out. ?? Server says they found some in the back. It wasn’t hot and fresh & very bland. Overall it wasn’t an awful experience but definitely overrated, overpriced and I honestly don’t plan to come back.
Doe's has really good food, but never that exceptionally good level that I would expect with the prices. It's always an acceptable meal but nothing that makes me excited to go back. We went for restaurant week. The cream of mushroom soup was a great first course, but the salad first course option was very unimpressive. It was good but it's just a small starter salad. The steak was cooked perfectly and paired with delicious mashed potatoes and excellent greens. E pork chop was also a perfect just medium and not over cooked. The sweet potato mash was really good. The Brussels were good but a little more roasted flavor would have made it excellent. The tres leches cake was fairly dry and little flavor. The carrot cake was delicious though. Service was ok but not engaging or welcoming. Not bad by any means, but not that extra level or engagement. Also, my drink order got lost. I like the idea of the plastic tablecloths but many of them are old and faded with some rips that make the feel cheap. I like the food here but I think it's a bit overpriced and not exceptional enough to get me back in the door more often.
I've eaten here before in the past and I remember the stakes being much better I felt like there was no seasoning on them whatsoever no salt no pepper. It was good it just wasn't fantastic I would give it an average really a shame since it used to be much better. The wait staff was super friendly as was everyone there honestly and the service was fast and friendly.
We came to town to catch the LSU game and looked for a good place to eat! Everything was booked except Doe’s! (Red flag)! We been to Doe’s in other cities many times and it’s probable the best steak there is! Therefore we decided to try Does in BR! Overall, it was a disappointing experience as we assumed it would be a nicer establishment! It’s more a hole in the wall Place! Old run down house! Nor very clean! Tables mats are ripped! Smells like a old nursing home! They serve the butter in disposable packs on top of your potatoes! Pro: - Great staff! Very friendly and attentive! - Great steak (not as good as Doe’s in MS or Monroe)! - Incredible Biscuits! Woooow! I mean incredible! Little ball of heaven! Cons: - Mediocre sides & appetizers at best! Not much flavor! Did NOT have the tamales! Even the fries didn’t have any seasoning or flavor unlike the other doe’s we have tried! - run down, dirty, messy establishment! - cocktails are 5/10 (stick to beer) - price! Very expensive despite the good steaks! Michelin’s star pricing for anything but Michelin quality! Overall: Must try the steak but don’t expect anything fancy!
Steaks were ok. Not bad, but definitely not worth the price. Tamales were fine. The chili that comes with them was probably the best part of the meal. The salads were just a small bowl of lettuce and big tomato chunks...no cheese, no croutons. Fries were pretty tasty. I've lived in Baton Rouge since 2008 and this was my first time at Doe's. I can tell you I don't feel like I've missed out on anything all these years. It's obviously a popular place to eat and some might call it a "staple," but we won't be back.
We arrived early and hung out at the bar while our party was still making their way to the restaurant Initially the entrance / host stand are had a funky and sour smell. This may be related to the rains and moisture in the building. We were a bit early and waiting on the rest of our party so we sat at the bar and had some excellent drinks. When the time came to sit our party the hostess and waitress came to get us. While preparing to move the hostess and waitress just jetted. We were left standing in the middle of the restaurant with incredulous looks from the other tables. With no apparent table designated for us we picked a nearby table and sat. Wait service was great and we had no issues with the food. I'm just not as impressed with this restaurant as the rest of Baton Rouge is. I feel most just don't get out and experience great steakhouses to know any better. I'm fortunate to travel and entertain work often.
The food was good, but I had to wait and hour for it to be served.
The food was terrific. However there is no crowd control. They allow their patrons to get extremely loud . Space is crowded . To many tables for the very small space they have. If it weren't for the obnoxiously loud very large group next to us it would have been a pleasant experience.
I give the stars at all for the quaintness and coziness of the establishment, and the friendly waitress. For the food, I give a half star, as we did eat it... I am a MS girl; these are not DELTA TAMALES. The closest comparison that I have to them is the HORMEL tamale in a can. Now, I will eat those from time to time. For $2 a can. 6 of these were $10. I will go with Hormel next time....We also ordered the creamed spinach. WOW; the cream was a Campbell's Cheddar Cheese or a MILKED down velveeta. Never had creamed spinach like that; won't again. In a nutshell; extremely overpriced for a less than mediocre meal. (the second tamale picture is a DELTA TAMALE...just FYI)
How do I begin? Well, for starters, the place is like a cheap, low-end BBQ joint with really expensive steaks. The servers look like they didn't have anything clean to wear, so they just went into their dirty clothes and threw on something to go to work (even though my server was very nice). Some guy who works in the kitchen was wearing a sleeveless tank top and possibly handling the food, which I thought was rather odd. The staff was conglomerating in the main entrance. The door into the kitchen is filthy, and everything around the kitchen entrance is dirty, so I can't imagine what the inside must look like. I had the Queen filet, which very much to my surprise was cooked perfectly and rather tasty if it wasn't for some sort of greasy brown concoction that was on the plate smothering my french fries and steak. The fried asparagus with the lump crab meat was also good. The Ceaser salad was horrible; wilted soggy, and it seemed that it was prepared sometime that morning and served to me at 7:30 pm. I would suggest the owner make a decision on what type of restaurant he/she wants to run and make the staff shower, and dress appropriately, replace the dollar store plastic table cloths, get some nice menus (not greasy dirty plastic laminated things which are okay for a BBQ joint), remove the paper towel rolls from the tables, and get rid of the plastic cups. Deep clean the place, or maybe, just consider lowering the prices to reflect a cheap BBQ joint or food truck because a better than average steak alone is no reason to charge luxury restaurant prices. Good luck!
The absolute most regretful decision on a steak house to eat dinner at.. The salad if you want to call it a salad was a bowl of lettuce with 2 cherry tomatoes cut in half and dressings that’s it. Mac N Cheese no I am not sure what it was but not Mac N Cheese!! My husband’s steak was good but for an 8 oz filet cost $50 … sad… oh and the side of potatoes was literally 3 red boiled whole potatoes with little square packets of butter on top!! Just very disappointing.. over priced underwhelming!!
I had the tuna steak. Ordered medium rare and it was cooked to perfection. Served on a cold plate..by the time I received my order...Tuna was cold. Others in my party ordered the Ribeyes. Huge..cooked perfect but so salty, very hard to eat. Ordered to spinach dishes for the table..however waiter came back and let us know they were out of spinach. My first time eating there. Have heard lots about it and was excited to go. However...for me it will be a 1 and done. There are much better quality and equally priced places around that I would rather go to. Sorry Does...I won't be back.
This place did not impress me at all, especially considering the price. Not sure what’s the big hype about. The tamales were ok but our shrimp pasta was cold and the heavy alfredo sauce just yucky. We asked for our steak to be medium rare but it came rare. The salad that came with it was wilted ice berg with 4 pieces of tomatoes and we had to send it back. They brought out another salad which wasn’t that much better. We were seated in the bar area which smelled of wet rag and the AC was blasting on our face at 65F. Overall a very unpleasant experience. (I did notice the other sections were nicer.)
I'm not sure I understand the appeal. I visited during restaurant week, although I ate from the regular menu. The steak was good, but the sides were terrible. The mac and cheese was very sweet, and it seemed quite obvious that some of the ingredients were...fermented. The salad was a wilty and moist iceberg lettuce salad. I imagine this restaurant holds nostalgia or it's part of a long tradition to visit there for some. I would not recommend it.
Service was fantastic. Old fashion was tasty. Food was disappointing. The prices are very expensive to get steaks cooked to the wrong temps. Ordered a 2lb ribeye and 14oz filet both severely undercooked. The sides are okay. Salads came out after steaks and sides were on table. Big thumbs down for us.
The place was quaint. We showed up without a reservation and we’re able to get a table. It wasn’t very busy. We both ordered steak. The salad and drop biscuits was the best part of the meal. Neither steak had any flavor. (Texas Roadhouse is better in my opinion.) The fries it came with were burnt and not freshly made. They had been sitting a while. We all got sweet tea, but it tasted like instant tea and not brewed tea (we are all avid tea drinkers). For the amount we paid…I would not recommend this place.
Pretentious dining in a shed. The salad was basic. The desert was supposed to be an eclair. It was definitely a bland, sorry excuse for a smore. The gulf has to be fresh water now because all the salt was on my steak. I mentioned to the waitress several times my $45 steak was too salty. She stated that regulars complained a week or so ago that their food wasn't salty enough; and not everyone can be pleased. I regret tipping her $20. I also regret that I ate a good bit of the steak. I was up sweating all night. I asked for a glass, bottled, l sparkling water. I received soda water in a cup of ice. I asked if the steak was seasoned with sea salt, and she replied, "Yes." Judging by my reaction overnight, that was untrue. Overall, it was a huge disappointment. I ate at this restaurant bc I read it had one of the best steaks..$120 later, and I am really upset about this experience!!!
My husband and I decided to try Doe's for the first time last week. We had heard it was a good place to get a nice steak dinner. Upon arriving, I noticed the sign out front promoting their steaks and tamales. When entering the establishment, I was slightly surprised that it was a very casual dining atmosphere. After looking over the menu, we decided to order the tamales with chili sauce for our appetizer. We both enjoyed them and thought they were pretty good. We then ordered two filet mignon dinners and a side of creamed spinach. I asked for no tomatoes on my salad, but little did I know, that meant I just got a bowl of lettus. We ordered both steaks medium and he decided on the fries and I decided on the red potatoes. Once the steaks were delivered they were both very overcooked. His fries were greasy with a horrible aftertaste. The potatoes were horrible and the creamed spinach was served cold and with hardly any actual spinach. Needless to say, I sent all of mine back and asked to just have it removed from the ticket. My husband was starving so he went ahead and ate the extremely dry steak and a few of his fries. I was offered another steak but decided to pass considering it took a significant amount of time to receive the first one. We were extremely disappointed with the quality of the food considering the price tag that comes along with it. The manager did comp the meal and recognized that the steaks were definitely overcooked, so at least there was an attempt to make it right. In summary I wouldn't recommend visiting this place for a nice steak dinner. There are many other places with better food with more options.
Even if the steaks for $5 a piece, it just wasn't worth it. The wife's ribeye was chewy. The porterhouse I had, you could tell it was time to throw them away, you could smell it and taste the old. It wasn't rotten yet but it was definitely on its way out.
First time here. Ordered tamales, very good. House salad soggy and wilted. Ordered porterhouse medium rare, steak came drenched in oil, with no flavor, and was tough and chewy. Very poor cut and taste horrible due to lack of seasoning and too much oil. Bill was $95 before tax. No worth it at all, atmosphere was very loud. Only good was the staff was friendly. Wish I would have read more of the bad comments before going.
In all fairness, I chose not to rate the food simply because we didn't stay long enough to experience it. Needless to say, we were disappointed with the quality of service and the overall atmosphere here. For starters, they sat us (a family of four with two children) in the bar area although there were plenty available tables away from the bar. Although they did accommodate us when we asked to be seated at another table, the server (who never even introduced himself) was the reason we decided not to dine there. His first words were literally "Something to drink?" He was dry, never smiled, showed zero willingness to answer whatever questions we may have had about the menu, and acted as though we were somehow bothering him. When we simply asked if we could order our entrées, he gave us push back saying our appetizers were on there way out as if to say we had to wait to order the main courses. When we finally had enough in that short amount of time and decided to leave, the hostesses at the front, to no surprise, acted as if they could care less of what was happening. We realize that the restaurant biz is a tough industry which is why we make it a point to be big tippers, but the owners need to mind the store and get the right people in the right places who actually want to be there and help the establishment thrive. Definitely a one star experience and we will not be back, unfortunately. Good luck to them anyways...
