I had dinner at Sons and Daughters last night and have been dreaming about the experience all day today. I would refer to this as an "experience' rather than just a meal - everything from the moment I walked in the door was perfectly curated for an amazing ~3 hours. As a solo diner who has never really been to a fine dining establishment, every single staff member made me feel comfortable and welcomed. The ambiance is top notch - it is a gorgeous restaurant with an amazing view of the open kitchen no matter where you sit. Every member of the team is extremely knowledgeable. The food absolutely blew me away. I had no knowledge of "New Nordic" cuisine coming into this meal, but I was so pleasantly surprised by each and every beautiful dish. Throughout the experience you learn about the way the chefs preserve the food, where they're sourcing their meat from, little details about Chef Harrison and his inspiration for the menu he's crafted - right down to the detail that his mother makes and ships many of the dishes that they use from England! I can't say enough good things about this dining experience. If you're looking for a unique, delicious, and interesting experience in a warm, gorgeous atmosphere - Sons and Daughters will check every box!
Unforgettable. The precision and quiet synchronization of the staff might be my favourite part which is crazy considering how excellent the food is. And the sourcing? Unreal, halibut caught 3 hours prior to me eating it. Special ducks only a certain number of them raised a year for us to get to eat. Im not sure i have all the right words Its just a crazy experience i do recommend. Best non alcoholic pairing ive ever had nothing
Beautifully presented dishes with a refreshing focus on bright, acidic flavors. Everything was perfectly balanced and light. The 3-hour experience felt slightly long, but the quality of the food makes it well worth the visit. Looking forward to coming back!
Came here for dinner and was taken on a thoughtful and whimsical culinary adventure. Each moment and dish are highly curated to elevate the senses. Imagine table settings for fairy royalty, but not in a cheesy way. It did feel a little formal for a solo diner, but the staff was very welcoming, and each table had a gorgeous view of the kitchen. Really enjoyed the chance to engage with each staff member, and the service was impeccable. As a lover and supporter of hyper local/seasonal fare, Chef and team did an amazing job showcasing the bounty of late autumn. Can't wait to return with a partner in tow.
One of the top two tasting experiences in the country. Chef Harrison and the entire team delivered an exceptional evening. Standout dishes included the venison with elderberry and the beautifully executed halibut. The beverage pairing was extraordinary highlighted by the Clos Rougeard, easily the best red wine I’ve ever tasted. Service was warm, personal, and thoughtful, with each chef introducing themselves throughout the meal. I truly can’t recommend this restaurant highly enough. Fully deserving of Top 50 recognition and even 3-star accolades. Huge thanks to Chef Harrison, Alexis, Chimay, Alex, Frida, David, Joe, Evan, and the whole team.
Positively surprised by every dish, both the presentation and complex flavor. The setup is intimate, quiet and yet somehow relaxed. Totally worth the visit and make sure you get the reserved wine pairing ✨
Definitely among my top 3 in San Francisco. + Very friendly and warm service + Well balanced menu and beverage options. Love their uses of less common plants + Beautiful ceramics
Second time eating here as i loved it the first visit and the’ve since won a second star, so i returned with high expectations. The food felt like a natural progression from my last visit, an unfussed elegant approach to cooking with a big emphasis on working with small artisans and sustainability. All of the dishes seemed to be explained by where and why they sourced the ingredients more than how exactly they cooked them. Everything i ate had a feeling of freshness and intensity of flavour, which felt quite novel to me. I sometimes find tasting menus can be overly rich and difficult to finish comfortably. Stand out dishes for me were the scollop with cured pork and turnip and the smoked duck. Although all of the food was absolutely delicious. I’m pretty sure every single person in the front of house and kitchen came and served one of the 18 courses i had. This is something i really appreciate as a solo diner because if the courses take a bit longer or if you have the same person at the table the whole evening i can feel a bit awkward or boring. They were all incredibly warm and charming and for me it kind of made the experience. To my knowledge there aren’t any other New Nordic restaurants in the area at this level, so its a must visit for anyone interested in dining in one of the west coasts new, best and exciting restaurants! Thank you to the whole team at S&D for an incredible evening 👏👏
A complete culinary and service experience. We chose the wine pairing and it was excellent. Highly recommended.
An absolutely beautiful dining experience. The restaurant is lovely with a simple yet elegant setup. The fireplace sets a relaxed and romantic mood. The open kitchen gives a glimpse into the preparation of the dishes. The chefs work diligently and purposefully to prepare dishes that look as great as they taste. The service is top tier as each and every detail is thought-out and executed wonderfully. It was great to have the chefs deliver and talk about the preparation of the courses. You can tell that there is passion in every detail of the meal. From the plates to the flatware everything was purposefully done and it shows. The food was wonderful. The combination of flavors and the sustainable approach were highlighted throughout the meal. We had a great time and highly recommend trying it.
Food was really good and very nicely presented. We ordered their green apple juice with douglas fir and it was really good! Staff were very friendly. It was really cool when they placed our dishes in sync.
Beautiful dining area. Wonderful service. Good food. I loved the stories behind each of the dishes. It was also nice to hear about where the dishes were made. Fun drink pairings. Coffee could have been stronger.
I had an absolutely good time dining at Sons & Daughters. The food is very delicious. Seafood is handled expertly. Besides the buckwheat course which was a bit salty for my taste, everything else tastes amazing. The highlights of the meal are the lobster and the lamb. The pairing of lamb and berries is so ingenious as the berries balance out the richness of the lamb. Nordic herbs and fermentation techniques make such a huge difference and elevate everything. Presentation is gorgeous. Wine list is superb. Service is top notch as well. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. Well deserved 2 Michelin stars in my opinion.
Sons & Daughters delivers an impressive dining experience. The atmosphere strikes a balance between sophistication and comfort, creating a pleasant setting. The food is outstanding, with each dish surpassing the last in terms of creativity and taste. The service is top-notch, featuring a professional and friendly staff that enhances the overall dining experience. The consistency in quality both times I have visited is commendable. The menu, a fusion of Nordic and California influences, brings forth dishes that celebrate the beauty of natural flavors. The commitment to sourcing premium ingredients is evident in every bite, reinforcing the restaurant's dedication to providing a culinary journey that honors the bounties of nature. A notable aspect is the non-alcoholic pairing, where each drink is carefully crafted to complement the flavors of the corresponding dish. This thoughtful touch adds a unique dimension to the meal. Kudos to Chef Harrison, George, David, and the entire culinary team for their mastery and dedication. Their expertise shines through in every dish, making the dining experience truly exceptional. This place is a solid choice for those seeking a high-quality dining experience. I would gladly return and recommend it to others looking for a satisfying and well-executed culinary adventure. Photos feature some menu items from July 2023 and February 2024.
Dinner at Sons & Daughters will go down as one of my husband and I’s favorite dining experiences of the year. We were thrilled by the warm welcome of their staff and Chef Harrison’s tasting menu. The courses were carefully built, combining both delicate and bold flavors of California and Nordic cuisine. A must visit for those interested in the culinary scene of the Bay Area. Thank you!
Sons & Daughters, located at the end of Bush street offers an intimate and quiet fine dining experience. Under the leadership of Chef Harrison Cheney, the menu exudes Nordic minimalism and is succinct and sharply focused on dishes that showcase the kitchen's mastery of smoke, acid and local ingredients. Fermentation and presentation is present here, but never overpowering and works to nicely complement the expertly prepared aged meats and produce. We especially liked the carbonara-esque rutabaga that was dressed in smoked pork fat sauce and the perfectly roasted quail with crispy skin and sumptuous jus that accompanied it. Floral arrangements and accents also helped to accentuate and highlight the freshness and purity of ingredients. For non-alcoholic drinkers, try the blueberry wine, which has a sweet and acid-like flavor that pairs nicely with the various dishes. Staff here are pleasant and discreet and are more observant than performative allowing for diners to have catch-ups or longer conversation. Sons & Daughters is a quietly confident restaurant that leans toward seasonality, elegance and restraint. An amazing jewel that stands out among the sea of exceptional talent.
Chef Harrison and the Sons & Daughters team are on a different level! This is hands down the best dining experience in San Francisco. We've been back 7 times in the last year since Chef Harrison took the reins and every time they've reinvented something new and brilliant on the menu. If you haven't been here in the last year you are frankly missing out! The unique flavors, attention to detail, and welcoming nature of the entire staff make this an unmatched experience. Better than any 2 or 3 Michelin star restaurant I've been to - this is truly underrated with only 1 Michelin star! I trust they will only grow their following under Chef Harrison, 2023's Michelin Best Young Chef in California winner.
Absolutely amazing dinning experience! - first of all, the Nordic style + British chef combo works better than French cuisine, in my opinion - the flavor of ingredients are utilized vs adding too much spices or cream - a lots of sea food options; along with some red meat to mix it up. Works well~ - wine paring is not bad (give it 8/10); however, this place offers non-alcohol drink pairing option which is unique and innovative - first time we tried stuff like cider with Douglas fur, or peach juice with black pepper. Admittedly it took some getting used to but the drinks definitely work with the food Price definitely on the expensive side, for Michelin one star - around $450 a person with drinks paring One thing this place falls short from other best restaurants is the environment - kinda crowded and a bit strange how things are arranged.

Sons and Daughters was such an incredible experience from start to finish. Right when we sat down, there was this sweet, handwritten card waiting for us—it was such a thoughtful little touch that made the night feel special from the get-go. Every dish was just stunning—like, they were almost too pretty to eat. But the flavors? Even better. You could tell so much creativity went into every detail, from how the food looked to how it all tasted together. Each bite felt super intentional. I also loved that they offered a non-alcoholic drink pairing. Every drink matched the food perfectly, and it was such a cool option to have. Overall, it was one of those meals where you’re smiling the whole time because everything is just so good.

We were celebrating a big event. What a memorable and sumptuous evening. The photos share the visual - but you need to try S & D to delight the palate. I’ve enjoyed many Michelin s - such as Narisawa of Tokyo or Karl V in Belgium or some years back- Manressa in Los Gatos. S & D is just as special and reminded me a bit of the approach of Neder in Alkmaar, Netherlands. This past evening was in tune with the season and was masterfully done. You will enjoy a leisurely experience, attentive service and recall your evening for years - the visit is an investment in making a long lasting foodie memory. Perfect for my celebration. They also have a beautiful wine selection. I tried their blueberry non-alcohol “wine”. It was sublime; which I have never said of any non-alcohol drink ever.

Good dinner spot worth checking out. Love the Scandinavian influence
Hands down the best burrito in the Mission (and maybe the city)! Went for the carnitas dorado style—crispy grilled tortilla, tender pork, perfect rice/beans/pico ratio, no unnecessary filler like rice overload. Fresh salsa bar adds great heat. Casual vibe, quick service, and super affordable. It's always packed with locals, which says everything. If you're craving an authentic SF Mission burrito, this is the spot—no frills, just pure deliciousness.

Came here celebrating my partner’s birthday. We had the winter tasting menu. We were impressed by the theme of the food being fermented and the reason why chef celebrates this theme. And I can still remember it well after a month. If you are interested in trying out how can food be fermented, and what they taste like in a very good form, this is the place to go! There were several dishes amazing. 1 dish tastes a little like the fish came out of a can, not bad at all, I just enjoy more from fresh live fish since I grown up next to the ocean. The service was great. Though I’d recommend to go there earlier than us, I sat down at 8:30, and finished after 11. It was a little too late for me.
