Approaching the menu posted outside, my cashier gestured for me to enter where I ordered and was encouraged to opt for a pretzel bun. The chef took great care to prepare my order and the presentation was appealing. As I dined in, the cashier spent time in an employees only area and reappeared as I finished! 🇩🇪

The meals here hit that perfect spot between fancy and comfortable. The employees' care shows in everything they do. This place balances quality and cost effectively. They maintain sensible costs, provide good service, and cook great food. All requirements are fulfilled here.

Hands down, this place serves the best bratwurst on the Upper East Side. The hot dog stand is part of an authentic German butcher shop, so you know it’s the real deal. The bratwurst is perfectly grilled — juicy, flavorful, and packed with that distinctive smoky snap when you bite into it. The sauerkraut and mustard are spot-on: tangy, balanced, and clearly made with care. You can choose between a regular bun or a pretzel bun, and the latter is the winning combo! For the price, you really can’t go wrong. It’s one of those hidden neighborhood gems that delivers simple, classic food done exceptionally well. Be aware that lines can get long during lunchtime, especially on nice days, since locals know how good it is. There’s no seating, so it’s strictly takeout, though they do have a narrow counter where you can stand and eat. It’s barely four inches wide, but at least it comes with a napkin dispenser — a small but appreciated touch. If you’re craving an authentic German-style bratwurst and don’t mind standing for a few minutes, this spot is 100% worth it.

Schaller's Stube Sausage Bar deserves a comprehensive review but where to begin? Their dishes were beyond conventional quality. Hurry and experience this restaurant! Restaurant personnel were warm yet focused on quick service. This spot maintains good standards.

This spot has mastered both technique and flavor. The team offered outstanding attention to guests. The servings are large, and I saved some for another meal! Every dish impresses and the prices are reasonable. The community welcomes this spot warmly.

They handle special occasions with appropriate care. Workers display exceptional warmth and assist with any concern. This restaurant has good energy, cleanliness, and understated style. The setting, the staff, and the meals all work well. I'm grateful for the online recommendation.

Our favorite place to stop for a quick dinner snack. My favorite hot dogs are curry wurst and peatmaster. Today, I ordered only one for us on our way to Whole Foods, and I regretted :p I should ordered two as they are so delicious.

Easily the best sausage & bun I found on my hot dog hunt of New York. The snap & flavour of the sausage was authentic, the bun was soft and the sauces topped it off. They offer quite a few interesting things to try on their menu including vegetarian options. I tried the classic and the Reuben and both were excellent. The person who served me was very talkative and friendly, giving me advice/ opinion on different dishes they have. Great experience all round.

Took a brat break during our day biking around Central Park and this place absolutely fit the bill. It didn't feel touristy which is always nice (even though we were indeed tourists). We shared three brats: The Saigon, Pitmaster, and Reuben. Each were totally unique and held up well in the soft, yet sturdy, pretzel bun. Would love to try their other offerings someday.

Absolute favorite spot of mine. I may have tried every sausage on the menu and have not found a flaw in a single one. There are two in particular that I get most often, one with rueben toppings and another with burger-like toppings but I can never remember the names. Delightful place to swing by and grab a delicious and filling meal.

Best hotdogs EVER had Been here multiple times. Never let you down. What to get: - classic - Saigon Special *best of the best*: a mix of sausage, pretzel buns, pickled carrots & sauce. Super balanced, beautifully flavored & delicious - potato salad: cold & refreshing! The space is small, cozy & warm. The staff is always kind & awsome

Great place for a quick bite to eat. Really appreciate that they have beyond sausage — and a big vegetarian menu. I don’t come here often, but when I do, I’m always satisfied. Try the currywurst (beyond or regular); it has a great flavor! And everything comes on a pretzel bun!

This place has been on my list for a long time, and it’s just right around the corner from where I used to live. I finally came here for the first time. I got a Weisswurst, with pretzel bun, Düsseldorf horseradish mustard, and sauerkraut. I also ordered potato pancakes. The sausage was nice and snappy, but the outside was still a bit too rubbery and made it hard to have a clean bite. The pretzel bun was very soft. The sauerkraut was very sour and just the way I like it. I didn’t taste much of the horseradish, but the mustard was still very nice. Overall, it was a good sausage. The potato pancakes were nice and crispy. I was able to taste the potatoes and some onion flavor. The apple sauce was a good pair with the pancakes. It’s a very nice place. I believe they renovated the whole place, and now they have a nice standing area for dining in. The staff are nice and friendly.

Good spot for any easy lunch when in this area. I’ve bee a couple of times and find the sausages tasty. This past visit I had the Berlin Wall which is siseable but I managed. You eat at outdoor counters so it is very much an on the go place and the weather needs to be nice.

Pretty good sausages with unique combos, a tad bit pricey for the portion size though. Would rate higher but they were out of a lot of ingredients when I went, so they kept making me change my order to accommodate. Great service though, guy behind the counter was really nice!

Other than not having the options from the online menu, the brats and dogs were not bad. The grilled polish kielbasa was actually delicious. The lady taking orders was just so full of personality and cheer that choking on a pretzel bun and dropping dead would have been a better course of action for me. I dont know if she was forced to cook the food at the threat of death or maybe she was miffed at the fact that she actually had to interact with customers but i feel if she could throw the food and beer at us she wouldnt hesitate even for a second. Real pillar of the restaurant industry. Cucumber salad was very refreshing though and the fries were nice and crispy.

The hot dogs here are always delicious and cooked to perfection. Unfortunately, my recent visit was disappointing by the rude behavior of one of the staff members. She seemed very angry and yelled at customers, which made the experience unpleasant. It's a shame that such a great place has to be ruined by someone who clearly doesn't enjoy their job. I hope this is a one-time occurrence, as I would love to return in the future for the delicious food.

Very disappointed. They have not updated their on-line menu and what they serve now is nothing like it. Was looking forward to a Berlin Wall or a Schaller Double but they no longer have those nor the best topping, bacon. Yes they have the 1/2 pound kielbasa, but no bacon or melted Swiss. Traveled all that way and had to settle for a plain one and a soft pretzel which was a joke. Felt like a bait and switch.

Came to try the hot dog which I heard was pretty good. VERY RUDE chashier inside told me to order from the window outside so I went back out and ordered, already with a sour taste. The woman at the hotdog window was actually nice. Hotdog was just okay, nothing to write home about. Definitely won’t be back after that joke of a service from the cashier inside the store.

I lived in Germany, in both Berlin and Cologne, two cities where currywurst is essentially a local institution. Since moving back to New York years ago, I’ve always appreciated having a place on the Upper East Side where I could quickly grab a currywurst or a sausage that at least scratched that itch. That’s why I’m genuinely disappointed after my first visit since the renovation, shifting from the old pickup window to a dine-in format. When I walked in, the place was basically empty, except for one patron sitting at the bar finishing whatever he had been served. I went to the counter and waited to be acknowledged. The woman working behind the counter was on a phone call and, despite me being the only customer who had walked in, she didn’t pause the call, greet me, or ask what I wanted. There was just this general indifference, the kind of “you’re interrupting me” vibe that makes you feel unwelcome the moment you step inside. Eventually she simply stared at me until I said, “I’d like a currywurst, please.” What I received was honestly shocking. She put the sausage in what looked like a panini press for about a minute, then only partially sliced it and poured curry sauce on top, cold. I took one bite and it was clearly undercooked, the sauce was cold, and the sausage wasn’t even cut properly, just big chunks instead of the normal currywurst slicing. The photo shows exactly how it was handed to me. I would have asked her to please heat it properly, but she disappeared from view again to continue her phone call, and there was no real opportunity to even address it. What’s especially frustrating is that it would have taken only a couple extra minutes to do this the right way, especially since the store was empty and walk-in traffic at that hour seemed minimal. Serve the one customer in front of you well, then go right back to your call. Instead, it felt like she simply didn’t care about the food, the service, or the customer experience. To add insult to injury, the credit card checkout prompted me for a tip, and the total for this was $11. Eleven dollars for something I literally threw away because it was inedible. This is such a bummer because I love the deli next door and this has always been one of my favorite little corners of the Upper East Side to visit. The Stube, when it was a pickup window, used to be great. I could pop up, grab a quick wurst or snack, and be on my way, fast, friendly, and consistent. Now you have to go inside, and in my experience it meant dealing with an unpleasant interaction and getting a cold, undercooked wurst with cold sauce. I really wanted to like the new setup, but based on this visit I can’t recommend it, and I won’t be returning unless something changes.

So I lived in Germany in both Berlin and cologne that are currywurst Hubs in the country. Since moving back to New York many years ago, I’ve always appreciated getting a currywurst Or sausage here. Recently, they renovated from being a pick up window to a sort of dine in establishment. This is my first visit since the conversion and I have to say it’s a super big disappointment.I Entered the establishment and had to wait until the woman behind the counter that offer phone call or at least would pause it to even acknowledge my existence, she never asked me what I wanted just stared at me so I finally said I’d like a currywurst please. She put a sausage in a Panini press for maybe like a minute then she half cut it and put cold curry sauce on it. I took one bite of it and the entire verse was undercooked and the sauce was cold and it was absolutely horrible. She didn’t even take the time to cut it all the way through so it was just essentially too large pieces of sausage. The picture below shows exactly how it was “handed to me.. The woman disappeared out of my view again to continue her phone call and I wasn’t even able to ask her To at least heat it up in her microwave I ended up just Throwing it away and I will never come back here again what a huge loss to the city at least we have the delicatessen next-door and can make it ourselves

I’ve taking a liking to Currywurst so I decided to try one before heading to the MET museum nearby. The place is literally a hole in the wall with stool seating against the wall. The Currywurst was nothing more than a large sausage, in a pretzel roll, with curry sauce; nothing special. What gives this a poor review is Christmas music was extremely loud. An unfriendly female employee said there was nothing she could do and promptly disappeared. This place shouldn’t subject their patrons to this.
