Avis sur Lao Garden Berkeley
We had a wonderful dining experience at Lao Garden and were truly impressed by the authenticity and quality of the food. For my husband, who is of Lao heritage, the flavors were especially meaningful and brought back a deep connection to his cultural roots. The care and tradition behind each dish were evident, making the meal both memorable and genuine. The owner’s warmth and hospitality made the experience even more special. Her personal touch and passion elevated our visit beyond just a great meal. We left feeling not only satisfied, but genuinely enriched, and we highly recommend Lao Garden to anyone seeking an authentic taste of Laos. We’re already looking forward to returning on our next trip to the Bay Area. Food pictured: Lao sausage, sticky rice, chicken wings, Thum Lao Lao (extra Lao spicy), chili lime shrimp, khao piak sen, mango sticky rice, Lao tea
The service was excellent. Even though it was very busy during lunchtime, the staff was incredibly attentive and helpful. Our server, Smile, truly lived up to her name — she was friendly, patient, and kept a warm smile the entire time while giving great recommendations. All of the food was delicious. My favorite dish was Tum Lao Lao — it was absolutely amazing, especially when eaten with sticky rice. To finish the meal, we had Lod Chong in coconut milk, a fragrant and creamy pandan dessert that was perfectly sweet and very refreshing. Overall, a wonderful dining experience. Highly recommended!
One of the better Nam Khao (Crispy Rice Salad) I've had that's crispy and fragrant with generous amount of Lao sausage while not being greasy. The papaya salad was also a great balance of flavors and wasn't too salty or fishy with a nice spicy kick.
Delicious authentic Laotian food. Friendly attentive service, even the chef came by our table to make sure everything is delicious. Gorgeous interiors, clean family friendly atmosphere.
We stumbled upon this restaurant while exploring. It's about 15 minutes away from downtown Berkeley so parking was relatively easy to find. The food was rich in flavor, tasty, and filling. The service was amazing and we got some great recommendations from our server. Try their laos coffee and tea as it has a unique taste.
I enjoyed the Mok Catfish with some Sticky Rice. The flavors were unique, interesting, and delicious. I'll definitely go back to try some of the other entrées. Nice casual atmosphere, and good, friendly service as well.
this is the best southeast Asian restaurant I’ve had in the all of United States. Without a doubt. this is coming from someone who lived in Southeast Asia for 15 years. i NEVER leave reviews but this place is LEGIT!!!! the vientiane rolls are out or this world. 100% my favorite restaurant now
First time having Laotian food and it was fantastic! Atmosphere was comforting and inviting, loved the lights and decor! Service was friendly and patient with us, she also suggested menu items. Food was so tasty! We ordered Kua Mee Lao (fried noodles with bean sprouts and egg omeleton top), excellent; Kua Khao (chicken and pineapple fried rice) so yummy; Thu Lith's Famous Saikoo (stuffed tapioca balls) these were different but really good. We finished it off with dessert coconut mango sweet rice! Loa tea is also really good. Thank you for the wonderful food and beautiful atmosphere!
If I could give this place 9 stars, I would! The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. They're super proud of the food they make and they were more than happy to tell us all about the dishes and to make recommendations. The owner/chef came over and talked with us and shared about the recipes. The food... Also incredible! We ordered a few different dishes that they recommended and each dish was unlike anything I've ever eaten! We got the thum lao lao, laab seen, nam khao, and famous saikoo... All were absolutely delicious and so unique and flavorful! The atmosphere was also really nice... It wasn't very busy when we went and it was quite peaceful. Can't wait to go back!!
My new favorite local. Mok Catfish is lifechanging. Velvety juicy and fragrant. Luang Prabang Khao Soi and Yum Salat Lao are also delicious. They capture that tangy, savory Lao flavors while balancing with the freshness of veggies. Portions are enormous. At dinnertime, the sunset can glare so sit on the front side of the restaurant.
Hadn’t ever been here before but a friend suggested it and TRUST i will be back. Amazing service and food! I rlly liked the Aw Lam and Vientiane Crispy Rolls. Also also also the mango sticky rice is soooooo good
I absolutely love Lao garden. My boyfriend took me here on a date and the food was amazing! I crave the Yum Salat often

Excellent food, and you have to order the side of chili sauce it’s incredible! Crispy rice balls were so delicious as well. Will be back. Also nice they have a lot of vegetarian options/modifications
This place was empty when my friend and I walked in but we decided to give it a shot. I’m so pleased we did because OMG the flavorsssss. Everything was spectacular!! From the drinks to the decor to the food, everything was FRESH, colorful and vibrant. We got the drunken noodles and Nam Khao, every bite was followed with an “Mmmmm”. They’ve got the sweet salty sour crunchy texture game on pointttt. Can’t wait to come back and try everything on the menu! Also kudos to the owner who was lovely, she offered us a drink that wasn’t on the menu, it was like a pandan sweet drink (tasted similar to a Thai iced tea but less sweet) it was perfect! I feel like they’re still under the radar because they’ve only been open a few months but this place will be packed come summer. RUN, DONT WALK!
Lao Garden is an amazing new addition to West Berkeley! The food is incredible- every time we’ve been there, we have been blown away by how delicious everything is. The lettuce wraps are incredible, as are the drunken noodles, red curry, papaya salad….. and everything else on the menu. They are able to make almost everything into a vegetarian option, which is great too! I highly recommend supporting this local business. It’s the best!
This is seriously the BEST laos restaurant ever, and trust me I’ve tried A LOT of spots around the Bay Area. I’m very picky about laos food I try out, and I have standards to what I eat and if it’s accurate or just not worth my money. If you’re looking to try out a new restaurant with your family or by yourself for your lunch break (how I found this spot) I can almost positively say, you will enjoy spending your every penny here. I definitely recommend the Thai tea as well for it was very great, not too sugary and very tasty. I tried the raw laab and not enough words could even capture pure bliss that entered my body, continued the rest of my shift in a great mood. 10/10
Lao Garden feels like a true hidden gem. The food is absolutely delicious and clearly made with great care—everything is full of flavor and thoughtfully prepared. The crispy rice balls are great, the chicken wings are delicious, and honestly every dish we tried stood out. All of the recipes feel like family hand-me-downs, the kind of food that comes from tradition rather than trends. The service can be a little slow at times, but the results are worth the wait. I genuinely can’t believe more people don’t order takeout from here, because the quality easily rivals places with much more hype. If you’re not in a rush and want a genuinely satisfying meal, this place delivers.
Fabulous. Just fabulous. From the lush and colorful decorations, to the warm and inviting service, we knew we were in for a treat the moment we walked through the door. And then the food. OMG. So much deliciousness. We got waaaaaay too much food, but still managed to eat almost everything - stuffing ourselves to the point of (happy) discomfort. Everything was fantastic. One word of caution though - we got medium spice and one dish was a little too spicy for all of us, so proceed with caution with the spice levels. And if you love fiery, you'll love this place. Don't miss the Nam Khao. Chef's Kiss.
The food is absolutely delicious, and they have dishes that I have not seen elsewhere. Different than Thai Food in a good way. The service is exceptional, extremely friendly staff. They were very accommodating to modify to vegan. Our server made us feel like we were part of the family, so nice to feel welcomed. The presentation was a work of art; I wish I took photos. I will next time. I highly recommend Lao Gardens!

Got Nam khao for takeout. Delicious and nice big portion! I’ve never had Laotian food before. This was an absolute delight! Staff were friendly and chatty while I waited at the bar. Would definitely come back to get it again!

I really wanted to give this place 5 stars, but the amount of burnt pieces of egg rolls in the Vientiane Crispy Rolls really disappointed me. I spent half my childhood making egg rolls with my mom, we NEVER served the broken wrapped egg rolls to customers because when they break open in the hot oil, it quickly burns the thin/minced filling. Otherwise the Nam Khao was a 10/10 and the Laab Ped was a solid 8/10. The service was solid and the place was beautiful.

Good food. We were the first customers (11 people) arrived at 12nn on Sunday. The waitress was nice until she forgot to place my crab rice order. She even said “ you did not tell that to me..” we checked her paper and written there my CRAB RICE. my family had done eating, and my crab rice has not arrived still, i asked the other waitress to just cancel it, but she got pretty annoyed and guess what, we still waited for another 30mins. The 2 orders of mango sticky rice took another 20mins of waiting. To the owner, please train your servers to have the sense of urgency and common sense of how to split the bill with 2 families. Not mixing who ordered this and that. Overall the food are great.

Updated 1 star because of your annoying AI responses. I’ve never had loatian food so bland. The service was incredibly slow, though they were nice when they did get back to us to take our order. This would have been fine if the food was good but it wasn’t tangy and lacked spices. The larb was the only thing that didn’t taste like it was cooked in mildly salty plain water. I have no idea why this place has such a high rating, maybe the chef is different on weekends?
