The death by potato’s gyro was to die for is id travel from Santa Cruz county just have to have one again. The flavor was immaculate And the portion size was Perfect. Random thing the bathrooms what the heck ? Lol . Not a whole lot of sitting and small menu but that’s not stopping me I’ll eat standing.
I used to come to this place regularly a few years ago until I moved to another state. This place is so good I used to have hungry dreams about it while in PNW and to this day this my first food stop whenever I’m back in the Bay.
The best vegan meats available. I have been here several times and have never been disappointed. I wish there stuff was available more widely.
I LOVE the fact they have grab and go items. Quick and TASTY! My brother recommended this place and as my first time as well as my parents we enjoyed. My dad is a skeptical type when it comes to vegan food but he enjoyed the chicken Caesar sandwich, my mom enjoyed the chicken Caesar salad and I had the buffalo ranch chicken sandwich. We will be back!!
honestly amazing vegan food the best sandwich shop in Berkeley for sure great for students to stop by for a bite. Feels like eating meat without actually eating meat helps with cravings so much. So delicious and the fries are amazing. Great sandwiches at a nice price and big serving size. GO EAT HERE!!!
Quite a unique experience to just order anything you want off the menu. My first experience with a vegan deli and it did not disappoint. The Reuben's with pastrami was really excellent but so was my colleagues steak sandwich. Lovely location and staff. Will definitely visit again and try some of the other review recommendations!
The Butcher's Son is one of the genuine 100% vegan restaurants on the planet! Their buffalo chicken sandwich is fabulous and the fried artichokes was on point perfect crunch to the bite mmmm...def would order that again. Small but super cute restaurant awesome service...I still say Chicago dinner in Chicago is slightly better but I still 100% recommend!
Steak and cheese. The idea is not to expect the same as an old Philly cheesesteak. But it brings the same joy when eating it. It was packed and could barely take a bite without it all shooting out. Nice hearty roll, flavorful steak and plenty of cheese. Added cooked onions, lettuce and tomato. Hit the spot. Side bacon Mac and cheese. Love this side dish
This place is a vegan’s paradise! My go-to brunch and lunch place for the weekend in Berkeley! Can’t say enough good things. The vegan steak and egg sandwich on a hoagie roll is probably my favorite item on the menu (but I’ve never had anything I didn’t like here). The Reuben sandwich is also top notch, but on the richer side (taste wise). Basically, everything is good…just go…try it for yourself…and become just as obsessed! Also worth noting, they had a ton of case items that you can buy for home. Everything from desserts, sauces, snacks, vegan meats, and vegan cheese. They even carry the Climax vegan blue cheese that made headlines for causing disruption in the dairy blue cheese market. They have plenty of indoor seating as well as a beautiful private patio in the rear of the building. The staff do a great job of keeping the place clean and I’ve always left satisfied.
6/19/2025 For the 2nd time I got the gyro sandwich without lettuce on gyro flatbread and got more onions than usual plus i was given extra tziki sauce I told my mom that Weird Al goes to Butcher's daughter in LA. I surmised Weird AL was a vegan by the 1989 album and movie soundtrack in UHF where Weird Al says that eggs are liquid chickens implying that Weird Al is vegan. I saw there were three quiches cooked and on the counter. This time I noticed the carafe that says TIMELESS COFFEE on it and it reminded to get the vegan cross aints on Piedmont Ave in Oakland at the Timeless Coffee just around the corner from where I live. I finally got to eat here and got the pickles and fried chicken sandwich. The cafeteria burger pickles were too chewy and salty for me, next time I would eat them on the side. I should have let the sandwich cool down because I couldn't really taste the flavors and all that sauce. I want to eat it again soon! The chicken Parm sandwich is big enough for 2. There is plenty of setting in back of the restaurant in the courtyard shared with a neighboring restaurant. hello Reginice I'll like your review if you like my review. I can't add more photos from today of my gyro sandwhich with be'ef instead of chick'n. Actually I noticed that you got 2 stars out of 5 and i feel this rating is rude and unappreciative even elitist given that this is in Berkeley near a famous public uni. Not all restaurants have really good everything on the menu is not equally good. The cheezesticks you will just have to wait until the inventor of vegan cheeze that melts the way we want it to for pizza comes out of west Africa Senegal I believe. Your mom was super silly to not order something else. Of course the chick'n pieces for your moms salad wasn't going to be that good. Obviously you should have ordered something else or asked more questions instead of being like that. Okay its Juneteenth and I have to write a letter to my friend Stewie and the food camper trailer to go vegan veganize so they can sell more orders. We are in solidarity as vegan restaurants for the most part. Eating rabbit food isn't my thing so I'm thankful for mocks meats. And I don't have a car to shuttle myself around to get here easy peasy unlike some people
I recently visited a vegan deli in Berkeley. Their plant-based Reuben sandwich was a revelation—savory, satisfying, and indistinguishable from its traditional counterpart. The ambiance was casual and inviting, perfect for a relaxed meal. However, the wait time during peak hours was longer than expected, and seating was somewhat limited. Despite these minor inconveniences, the quality and taste of the food made it a memorable experience
Place is amazing. Good luck on trying to decide on what you’re going to get because the lineup is insanely yummy! We did breakfast and it did not disappoint. Free coffee and the absolute best staff we have ever seen. Never seen so many happy and energetic people in any restaurant. The outdoor seating in the back is perfect as well! Will be back!
Delicious vegan food with lots of options to choose from. We all liked our dishes: kale ceasar salad, pastrami reuben, chicken parm hoagie, cheeseburger, and breaded chicken sandwich. Their garlic fries were great too! My only complaint was the breaded tempeh on my salad wasn’t very tasty…it was cut really thick and had a weird flavor. Otherwise all tasted delicious! Be prepared to grab your own silverware and sauces. We sat outside in their lovely courtyard, full of flowers. Would go back again!
Amazing vegan spot! Everything was delicious. As an omnivore, I’m always on the lookout for plant based places that offer options everyone can be happy with. They were also great at checking for my allergens, even during a busy time. I ordered the smoked bbq sandwich and loved every bite. Their food is proof that this spot carefully selects their ingredients and doesn’t compromise on flavor. My vegan friend ordered the pyrgi and swapped the chicken for tofu. Our only regret is not trying the abundance of desserts they had out!
Surprisingly, plant based restaurants in the bay area are hard to find. I feel very fortunate to have found and tried this restaurant's food. I have gone back several times, and every dish I have t…

Adorable vibe, friendly staff, delicious food!! menu is extensive and well executed. outdoor seating is lovely and includes shaded and sunny seats. quick service.
Absurdly good food and service. Will be coming back immediately. Try the pork sandwich, its to die for. Also the outside patio is beautiful and relaxing. 10/10 overall
Extremely satisfying vegan sandwiches. A nice outdoor seating area. The selection is big enough to make me want to return.

Loved the food! Hearty and fresh! I had the bbq sandwich and loved it. ambiance was fun! Service was impeccable and friendly
Huge variety of very tasty vegan options. The smoked jackfruit salad was fantastic and the pastrami Reuben was very good. Staff was very friendly.
This was by far the best vegan lunch restaurant I've been in. Really tasty sandwiches! Would love to come back again. Thank you
Their portions have gotten a lot smaller over the years but they have great options on their menu. The deli doesn't seem to have has many choices as before either but the bacon is still good. I had the lobster mushroom roll and found the flavor a but strong (mind you, I probably wouldn't like a real lobseter roll for the same reason. Also ordered home fries with bacon, cheddar, and avocado which was a great combo. The home fires are much tastier than the regular fries. I additionally got coleslaw and bacon mac salad on the side, both of which which just alright.
Lots of great options, tried the Ruben, Buffalo Chicken and the cheese sticks. As with most Vegan restaurants the food comes close to hitting the flavor comparisons but not usually the texture. Same here, that said I'm still coming back to try more of their many different offerings. We liked everything we ordered, in order the chicken, cheese sticks and Ruben.
Okay so hear me out. For vegan food, it’s pretty great. And I acknowledge that if you’re vegan it’s great. If you aren’t and people tell you it’s just like meat, they’re wrong. It’s not. Especially the fake chicken. The first few bites are great but it gets old very quickly. I liked the bacon, but mainly because the rest of the BLAT was pretty good once I removed the fake chicken. It was worth a try, and if you’re vegan go ahead, but if you’re just curious, if save your 20 dollars and get something else.
This is my absolute favorite vegan spot in the entire bay area!! My go to is the temple Caesar salad! I've tried multiple of their dishes, but my favorite still comes out to be the salad. I also …
A good sandwich by all accounts, I simply regret getting a sandwich that emulated a non-vegan sandwich and was not entirely surprised when it tasted not quite like the the non-vegan sandwich …

Ah, I do appreciate that this is a dedicated vegan restaurant, but for us, it just was miss.\n\nMy aunt (not vegan/plant-based) didn't enjoy the fried "chicken" that she order on her Caesar salad. …
Pickle 10/10 Cookie dough 10/10 Service 10/10 Pastrami sandwich 6/10 Jalapeno steak hoagie 7/10 I think the food was too oily in general & I think they need to reimagine their "melted cheese" taste and texture currently like cottage cheese mixed with breadcrumbs an excess of oil. Id still recommend this place due to them pioneering unique vegan meats. Free coffee and oat milk was also a big perk.
Honestly this place used to be the spot! They make everything in house and use to kill it! I'm not sure if it's supply issues or just changes in management but it's gone downhill since reopening afte…

I've been here a few times because I love that it's a classic deli-style lunch spot where I can order anything on the menu even though I don't eat meat. That said, this is really a place you bring …
I was impressed with the quality of the food. I had my breakfast delivered so I can't comment about the ambiance or service! I plan to eat at the restaurant next time!

Ah, I do appreciate that this is a dedicated vegan restaurant, but for us, it just was miss. My aunt (not vegan/plant-based) didn’t enjoy the fried “chicken” that she order on her Caesar salad. I tasted it and understood why, it had that weird , spongy, seitan texture. The salad alone is good because their dressing is excellent. I ordered the mozzarella sticks and Jalapeños Business. The inside of the mozzarella sticks didn’t give the cheesy pull that I’ve found at some other spots, it was more cakey. The marinara and breading was tasty, but I did not care for the cashew cheese’s texture. The flavor of the Jalapeño Business was good, but the texture was a miss for me. The highlight of the meal, was the pickle; they have some of the best pickles. For the two of us, we were definitely disappointed with the meal. I don’t see me trying this spot again; not willing to spend $65 on a meal that was so dissatisfying.
DO NOT ORDER HERE!!! At least on DoorDash. They are scamming and most likely are paying for good reviews. The pictures on DoorDash looked so good so I had to try the mozzarella sticks. Everything was…
Did someone throw up on my plate? That's exactly what my chicken parm plated looked like. The other order, a bland, tasteless zucchini sandwich wasn't any better. Both meals were bad. I wouldn't …
