This was my third time at Chicken + Whiskey, and it continues to impress every single visit. As someone who is Peruvian, I’m pretty particular about rotisserie chicken, and this place truly does it right. The chicken is perfectly marinated, incredibly flavorful, and cooked exactly the way it should be juicy on the inside with that beautiful charcoal flavor. What really takes it to another level is the sauce they finish over the chicken and the plantains it’s absolutely incredible and ties everything together perfectly. What stands out the most is the consistency. Whether you go in the afternoon or close to last call, they clearly go out of their way to make sure every serving comes out just right. For charcoal chicken in the middle of a busy city, that level of care is rare. Every bite is delectable, authentic, and thoughtfully prepared. As a Peruvian, it’s great to see this cuisine represented with such respect and quality. I’ll definitely keep coming back.
Fantastic halal chicken family deal, the chicken was perfect, the coleslaw great, yuca fries amazing, plantains, Mac and queso, will be back for all of them. Also the bar section is totally separate from the restaurant section, very different vibes. And there was enough seating for a 6-person group
So good!! The la comadre was to die for. The flavors in the arepa were out of this world. The chicken is so juicy and tender. Really nice and friendly staff as well. I meant to take a pic but ate it too fasts lol.
I ordered on line for delivery: Excellent product , the roasted chicken was excellent. For those interested in protein amounts and quality this this is Caht GP analysis from the meal I ate Macro Verification (132g Meat from a white meat quarter) "Chicken + Whiskey's method involves a 12-hour brine and slow charcoal cooking to 185°F. This slightly higher finishing temperature (compared to the standard 165°F) helps render more fat out of the skin, potentially making the meat slightly leaner than a typical home-roasted bird. Protein: ~41g (Excellent for a single meal) Fat: ~5g (if skinless) or ~12g (if skin was eaten) Calories: ~220–280 kcal Verdict: Chicken + Whiskey uses a "Standard Professional" rotisserie bird. It is significantly larger and meatier than a budget supermarket rotisserie (like Walmart at 2.25 lbs raw), but smaller than the "jumbo" birds found at warehouse clubs like Costco. Your 132g yield confirms you received a full, generous portion of white meat. " So I do not know how accurate is this Chat GPT comment but for me is consistent with the meal I ate.
Intention was to going to the whisky bar. The bar is hidden. Have to pass through the whole restaurant to get to the bar in the back. Completely different atmosphere with chill vibe. Drink selection is good. Food is available at the bar, which you can order with the bartender and they will bring it to you at the bar. Tasha was our bartender and she was so dope! So good at making drinks.
The chicken here is soooo juicy and DELICIOUS!! I came here TWICE on my trip! We ordered a whole chicken for 3 people and we love the rice and plantain sides! They have a really cool bar in the back that I really wanted to check out but I have a baby haha so we took a little peek before people started pouring in. I LOVE the Halloween theme! I love that they have outdoor seating too!
If you’re looking for a casual bite and are tired of the typical noodles scattered around 14th st definitely go to chicken and whiskey. The chicken is good and fresh. I got the broccoli and queso + Mac n cheese as a side with my chicken. They also had a dj on Saturday outside and serve so so cocktails out front.
Loved this spot. The chicken was perfectly cooked and packed with flavor, and the sauces were excellent — definitely the highlight. Didn’t have to wait long, and it’s a cool, fast casual vibe that still feels like a real meal. Rice was a little dry, but honestly, everything else more than made up for it. I’d go back in a heartbeat.
I really liked the half chicken and the broccoli. The service is relatively quick given that they need to grill the chicken. The price is also good for the location. They have plenty of outdoor seating, which are great for groups. It's also close to metro stations and located near other dessert shops and bars.
As someone who grew up eating Peruvian food, this is the BEST chicken I’ve had in YEARS! Got the 1/2 chicken dark with the arroz chaufa and sweet plantains. The chicken was not only super flavorful but so juicy. The rice was different from the chaufa I grew up having but was still tasty and the plantains were perfectly sweet. I’ve been to their speakeasy twice and the drinks and service has always been fantastic along with the music selection. Will definitely visit EVERY time I’m in DC!
This place is soooooo good. The chicken tenders were crispy on the outside but juicy on the inside. The mac n cheese and yuca fries were also a hit with our group. You also can’t go wrong with the rotisserie 1/2 chicken - so juicy as well. I highly recommend you check out this place!
8/15/24: Second time I've been to this location and enjoyed it better than the first. Be advised, in the summer, they have the front door open and it can get a bit toasty. This time, it was a little less humid and we ate in the bar area. which is definitely air conditioned. It was "Y2K" night, they had a DJ, good music and the bartenders were awesome, food was great. The whole vibe was really a great way to end a work day. Don't know why, but I crave their yucca fries. Had the chicken tenders, they are not your average tenders. The panko crust was seasoned just right. The drink I tried was the "Lo Siento, No Lo Siento" and it didn't disappoint. The smokiness of the mezcal was apparent but then the watermelon and lemon hit. I have a thing for bathrooms. Clean, fun bathrooms. It was clean so that's always a good sign. They also have an outside seating area. You might have to drive around the block a couple of times for parking but then again, we got lucky both times and parked right across the street.
I tried the chicken mac n cheese and it was incredibly good. They gave a generous amount of meat, and the chicken was way better than any other place I've tried! 10/10 I would go here again the food came out very fast too. I also love that they had options that are gluten free for my wife (no gluten free mac n cheese though)
If you are looking for an affordable and delicious dinner in DC, look no further. You go up to the counter and order 1/4, 1/2, or whole chicken (there are a few other options as well). The rice was on point, and the coleslaw had a touch of tajin which was amazing. I am totally coming back.
Didn’t have any expectation for the roasted chicken here but it turned out to be 100 times better than the ones in the grocery store. The 1/2 dark meat was very juicy and full of flavor. We also went back for the second time and got the whole chicken but the breast part wasn’t as good. So would rather get 2 * 1/2 dark meat.
Great food, highly recommended. Nice environment and family treatment from all employees.

Color me surprised when I've visited this place expecting chicken and whiskey; and while I got those things, I was pleasantly surprised by the Peruvian flair and cuisine. \n\nI was in town for home…
So many fond memories. The food is great, and the atmosphere is fun, especially after 10pm. there's no better place to go when you've got the munchies. Do it!
This is our go to spot for casual dining with a group of friends. We often go here for dinner and get their combo meal. It used to be $50 but they have increased the price to $60. It's still worth …

I really liked my veggie arepa. I like that this place is open pretty late. The food came out very good and very fast. I would definitely recommend this place
I stopped by Chicken & Whiskey on 14th Street today to pick up a lunch order to go. I ordered ahead through the Toast Local app and got two Borracho Chicken wraps and two chicken empanadas. The restaurant was fairly busy when I arrived, but my order was ready on time and easy to grab. The food tasted great and held up well for takeout. Parking in the area was difficult, both on 14th Street and the nearby side streets. I was frustrated by the service fee that’s added on top of the menu prices, which felt unnecessary and detracted from the overall experience. Hence the reason for a slightly less than 5 star rating. Businesses need to learn to price their good and services appropriately to cover their costs of doing business and stop with the added services fees. If this restaurant continues to conduct business this way, it may have been my last visit.
Tried Chicken + Whiskey for the first time and had the Pollo Frito, a solid, flavorful chicken sandwich. Not sure if it was intentional, but when I cut it in half, the chicken and tomato slices formed a smiley face 😁 Nice little surprise! The food was tasty and fresh, and the service was fast and super friendly. Definitely worth a visit.
Visited DC for 4 nights and whenever I am in the area, I like to go for Peruvian chicken meal, which is served in abundance in this region. I am from a part of California where there aren’t many of these types of food offerings, so if you’re looking for a niche in the food industry, this is your sign. Do it taco truck style and you’ll win! I thought the price was outstanding for DoorDash in a city where parking and getting around can be tricky. It was also after 9pm and I needed to eat after a long travel day. The food was tasty and I was not disappointed. My only wish was for more yellow packet sauce. I cannot rate the service and atmosphere because this was not a dine-in meal. I hope to eat there next time I come to visit.
I ordered the side yuca fries for $4.50 and these people gave me 8 fries. I asked for more and they informed me each order came with only 7 and I was lucky to get that extra one. \n\nCashier (blue sh…

The food here is Garbage the service is great. The atmosphere is just way too much going on. The drunk people from the speak easy be doing the absolute most. Takes away from the location. Someone talk to the chef about that mac and cheese because they ain't it.
The price increases at this place are absurd. I largely stopped coming here once they started to give you less sauce. I just paid $40 for a whole chicken with four sides. It used to cost $26. The price of chicken hasn't even increased in the past three years. The reduction in sauce is worse than before. There are many options in the DC area for Peruvian/charcoal chicken. Pick one of those and have it delivered instead of this place.
This is a review about the atmosphere along with the workers. I went out with my girlfriends on a Thursday night & a man walked up to us saying “my friend is racist, & I think if one of you guys walk up and talk to him it will do him service” now… I will not shame the bar on admission as it is rightfully so open to everybody, but I was very clear to the bartender about that is going on and they did not seem to have any care. I love the speakeasy in the back, but if I feel so uncomfortable to the point where I tell someone who works here & they don’t care. That says A LOT!!!! If you are any type of colored in any type of way, I would NOT recommend coming here! It seems like a certain crowd is welcomed and praised here enough to not care about others who don’t look like them. Even if they are being racially assaulted. Being your money elsewhere. Trust me, they do not care NOR want you here!!!
